Selecting just the picks
How do I select JUST the picks in a number of collapsed stacks to drag and drop ? Or, in other words, how can I create an album of JUST the picks in a project ?
Paul
If you just select images in a stack and then make an album from them, Aperture will always include all the stack images in the new album.
One way you can get only the picks you want is to create a Smart Album. You'll have to give the picks some sort of common keyword or metadata, but then you can click the Ignore stack groupings option in the Query HUD to include only those stacked images that match the criteria.
It does mean you'll have to take the time to give the images a common criteria. But you can do that in one step once you have selected all the images you want to include in the Smart Album. Once they're all selected, just give them all a common keyword at that time.

How can I select just the clips, or just the transitions?
If I have a timeline with 50 or more clips (or still shots, in my case) with cross dissolves between each one, I would like to select just the clips, or just the transitions, but not both. How do I do this?
Why? I am creating a video with hundreds of stills and a few video clips, and occasiionally need to change the duration of all stills at the same time (from 3 seconds to 4, for example). Or, if I want all of the cross dissolves to last 1:15 instead of 1:00, it would be nice to select and change them all at once. However, in both cases, I can't figure out how to select all 50 without having to Command-click 50 times.
Any ideas you have will be appreciated.
BartTo perform the same duration change on just the transitions (cross dissolves, in this example), this technique will work:
Open timeline index.
Enter "cross" in the search box (or whatever transition you're wanting to change).
Select all cross dissolves in list (click one, then type Command-A).
Click the time strip in the top of the timeline area.
All of the transitions in the list should now be selected in the timeline.
Control-D to change duration.
Enter new duration.
Hit Return.
I hope this saves someone all of the time I spent on it today. I'm still ahead, though, thanks to Tom's help. This saved litterally hundreds of Command-clicks.

Wanting to transfer pictures from my itouch to MacBook Pro, when I connect itouch to Mac, it shows all the pictures on the itouch and some have already been put on, was wondering how you select just the one's I want to import, I've tryed control C, command C, and it doesn't do it. Would you be able to help me thanks.

Select just the values between min and max of an accumulated value over day
Hello Forum,
a value is accumulated over a day and over a period of time. Next day the value is reseted and starts again to be accumulated:

10.09.12 12:21 153Thank youThis solution works perfectly when the accumulated value has its low and its high on the same day. But I found out :( , that there is also data, which has its low yesterday and its high today. For a better understandig of the case, there is a machine, wich is working over 3 Shifts with irregular start and end time. For example Shift1 cann start at 5:50 or at 7:15. The accumulated value of the worked time is accumuated for each shift extra. This solution works for the shift 1 (approximate between 06:00-14:00) and for the shift 2(approximate between 14:00-22:00), because there is the low and the high of the accumulated value on the same day. This solution does not work for the shif 3(approximate between 22:00-06:00), because the high of the accumulated value is or can be the next day.
So the thread title should be: "Select just the values between min and max of an accumulated value over the same day(today) or over two successive days (yesterday and today)

No way to make selected photos the picks of their stacks?
I found myself wanting to select one image from each of a number of stacks then make them each the pick of their stack. Apparently the Pick command operates only on the most recently selected image, even if several are selected. I can see where making multiple images the pick of their stacks would be a UI problem if some of the images were in the same stack, but is there a good reason not to allow setting picks for multiple images when only one per stack is selected?
I thought maybe I could do this in AppleScript, but (a) the picked attribute of an image version is not writeable, and (b) "stack" is not mentioned anywhere in Aperture's AppleScript except in the description of that attribute. I'm thinking of doing a hacky thing where I save a list of the selected image versions, then tell Aperture to select one, issue the cmd-\ keystroke to pick it, then select the next, etc. Anyone have any better ideas?You're right Make Stack Pick only works on the primary selection most likely because of the issues you bring up. If there were multiple selections in a single stack what would the command do?
As for AppleScript you'll find that it is severely limited in its ability to get at low level items in the Aperture library.
As for you're proposed solution it seems to me that you're going to a lot of trouble to solve a not very frequently occurring problem. As you will have to go through and select each image you want to make a stack pick to add to your list, why not just make it the pick then? You could use the keyboard shortcut for next or previous stack to go from stack to stack and then once in the stack use the arrow keys to get to the image you want to pick than then use the ⌘-\ to make the image the pick.
good luck -
Can someone tell me how to export my art work object to a PNG or JPG? I am getting the whole work space saved when I export. I want to export a label to another print program and the entire workspace is in the JPG including not just the art I want, but anything else that is on the work space. How can I isolate just the object I want to export and convert it?Newsgroup_User
Randy,
You may create a rectangle the size of the artwork and Object>Crop Area>Make, then Save for Web.
Or you may use the Crop Area Tool, see the documentation or here,

How can I trace just the lines of a hand drawn sketch.
Hello everyone,
I'm sorry its another inexperienced Ai user here.
I have been using photoshop for a good while now but have only just started to use illustraotr and I could do with some help.
I have a bunch of simple black and white illustations, which I want to vectorise and arrange and compile into completed picture and patterns in Illustrator. I have tried using the image trace function of CS6 and it gives great results but I always end up with a white box behind the illustration. I dont seem to be able to work out how to select just the outline and have a transparent background so that I can work with the differnet bits to creat a completed picture.
Idealy i will have each individual illustraiton on a seperate layer initially as I build up a picture then I will flattern it all togehter at the end.
Sorry if this sounds a trivial matter but any help would be greatly recived.
HI use sketches a bunch. I love the fact that I can draw on paper, scan my sketch, and finish it with illustrator. The first thing I do when I open up the file is lock it down and creat a new layer. Make sure the new layer is on top of the locked layer(the layer that has you sketch). I use 3 different ways of re-creating my sketch. The first is by using the shapes and shapes builder tools. Add in pathfinder here and there and depending on your design, you could complete a whole sketch with this method alone. For more complex drawings I use the pen tool, this is great for making precise shapes and building composition. One note when using the pen tool is to make sure you have a color and stroke ready when you start using the pen tool, also after you make your first click or anchor with the pen tool set the opacity to around 50%. Another option that I use is to use brushes to create the strokes, and then join or combine the strokes and use live paint or just fill them in as I go. Whichever method you use, lock down the sketch so you can't select it. Make sure that the image of your sketch has good contrast and color before you start. If you have to use Photoshop to touch it up and then bring it in to Illustrator. I also make sketches and then make the basic compsition with illustrator and progressively build the design. Just a thought for those who don't have scanners or don't want to mess with a scanning a design. Hope some of this helps.

Change just the name of pasted graphic (feature request)
Every time when I paste a graphic into Edge Animate, the application swiftly suggests a name for the imported graphic. But the selection includes the file extension as well, which in most cases will need to remain the same. It would be easier (and safer) if the user could just start typing over the selected name part, without inadvertently forgetting or altering the extension, or needing to re-select just the name part. A small improvement for a better use of the application !
EDIT: I just noticed – in a daring mood – that if I just type anything without adding or leaving an extension, Edge Animate will suffix the proper extension anyway. Nevertheless, a more careful user like me is uncertain about the consequences and doesn't trust software as much...Actually this is what I was trying to do:
<select name="<c:out value="${id}"/>versions" >
<c:if test="${param.{id}versions == yyy}"> selected </c:if>
</select>
Do you know how to make the comparision works? The problem is the double curly bracket.
Thanks again -
Is there an easier way to strip the video to leave just the audio in a clip?
A friend asked me how to remove the video so as just to leave the audio in a clip.
She said she had tried detaching and expanding the video, but even though she selected just the video, whenever she hit the delete/backspace key everything disappeared.
I couldn't find a way of doing it but suggested the old trick of simply exporting the clip as audio only.
It seems a bit convoluted so is there a quicker way?I have just realised that this is not quite the solution I thought it was.
The gap is almost like an invisible clip which prevents anything being added to the timeline above the audio.
Yes, you can attach another clip above the timeline but it's not exactly elegant.
It appears that the only way to get rid of the video to leave an uncompromised audio clip is to Share>Audio Only and re-import. -
When i crop a video using FCE, how can i export just the selection?
When using the cropping tool with FCE 4, say i just crop out a single square from near the top of the video. if i were to export this video now, the new video would consist of the cropped out selection surrounded by black. is there anyway i can export the cropped out selection without the black? i'm not looking to rescale the image, just to remove the selection at it's original size without all the black around it.
FCE's a fixed-resolution editor and there's no way to export at the resolution of your cropped image unless it matches one of the sequence presets. In FCP you could set a custom resolution and export as that.

i want to print only selected pages not the whole document.. HELP
Firefox allows printing of a'' range of pages'', for example, page 2 to 5. But not a non-contiguous set of pages.
Firefox allows you to print a ''selection'', but by that Firefox means the part of the page you selected with the mouse or keyboard, so again, a continuous range.
If you don't want to print 3 times, I suggest using a PDF printer driver as an intermediary. Then you can print any individual pages you like using the much more full-featured print dialog in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
If you do not have one, here are two free PDF printer drivers I have used:
* PrimoPDF - http://www.primopdf.com/
* PDF Creator - http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator
If you are just printing for quick reference and don't mind a "trial edition" banner on your PDF, I really like this one due to its handy preview-before-save feature:
* pdfFactory - http://fineprint.com/pdf/ -
My Photoshop CS 5 has some strange actions when I copy a portion of a photo using the clone stamp to transfer to another part of the image. It carries the entire layer (not just the stamps selection) across the screen and I cannot place it where I need to. It appears as if I selected the entire layer on purpose (which I did not)
The below items appeared when I opened Photoshop CS 5:
“Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled G & U enhancements. Check the video card malfunctions website for latest software. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the performance panel of preferences.”
(I believe this started after the automatically updated Windows was applied. It was coincident with the before mentioned problem . . . but I don’t really know if it had anything to do with it. )For the Clone Stamp problem, check the Clone Source panel and Clipped is probably unchecked.
If so, check Clipped and see if that makes a difference.
(Window>Clone Source)
As to the video card problem:
Which version of windows are you using?
What is the make and model of your graphics card?
Do you know which update windows installed? -
My Mac Pro is acting wonky all of a sudden. This all began after someone in my family spilled water on the keyboard and tried to clean it up while still turned on. I bought a new keyboard but now I cannot select just one file in a folder, all get selected. Same thing happens in Lightroom 3 when editing in the filmstrip mode, I cannot just select one photo, they all get selected. Plus, after awhile I cannot type in small letters either, just capitals. If I restart it is ok for about 15 minutes then the problems start. I did a reinstall of the OS but it is still happening. I zapped the pram, fixed permissions, etc but no luck. I am on a 2x2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon machine with 900 gigs unused. Any suggestions?
Try also resetting smc.
Also check your keyboard preferences. And just to possibly reset some keyboard related caches and prefs you might go through the "Change Keyboard Type..." (Keyboard tab in the Keyboard preferences). -
I just connected my wife's Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to an IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu in order to provide maximum screen appearance? My wife has AMD and a visual acuity of 20/400 with central scotonata.
In System Preferences:Displays you have an option to show
Displays Prefs in the title bar above the screen - where she can
iteratively adjust to her liking. Higher screen resolutions, ironically,
result in smaller characters so adjust to suit. Below, Displays is
4th from L.
