Selection from a Maintenance View

Hi,
I have to fetch data from a view, unfotunately that view is a mainteance view. Is there any other way to select/fetch data from that view in my report program ?

Hi
U cannot access the data from maintanence view.
Only projection and database view can be used in ABAP code.
If u want to access the Data from more the one table , Create the DATABASE VIEW and use this view in ur program.
For example : UR Database view name is Ztest
in ur program
table Ztest.
select * from Ztest ***************
*******************UR Business Logic

How to read data in a program from a MAINTENANCE View

Hi Experts,
Requirement:
1. I have maintained a maintenance view on three Database tables.
2.Data can be entered in the view as it is a Maintenace view as i have created maintenance generator for that and it is a requirement.
3. In one of my programs i need to read this data, into an internal table, that is maintained through this view.
Problem: When i am firing a SELECT query on this view, it goves me a syntax error that i cannot get data by select query on a Maintenance view.
Solution required for: Is there any way i can get the data from this Maintenance view.

   Only projection view or database view can be used
   in select query.
    Find the tables used in view and
   Select data into report program by
    joining tables .

You can't use OPEN SQl statements to fetch data from maintenance view
You have to use only Database views
see the different types of views and the difference
The followings are different types of views:
- Database View (SE11)
Database views are implement an inner join, that is, only records of the primary table (selected via the join operation) for which the corresponding records of the secondary tables also exist are fetched. Inconsistencies between primary and secondary table could, therefore, lead to a reduced selection set.
In database views, the join conditions can be formulated using equality relationships between any base fields. In the other types of view, they must be taken from existing foreign keys. That is, tables can only be collected in a maintenance or help view if they are linked to one another via foreign keys.
- Help View ( SE54)
Help views are used to output additional information when the online help system is called.
When the F4 button is pressed for a screen field, a check is first made on whether a matchcode is defined for this field. If this is not the case, the help view is displayed in which the check table of the field is the primary table. Thus, for each table no more than one help view can be created, that is, a table can only be primary table in at most one help view.
- Projection View
Projection views are used to suppress or mask certain fields in a table (projection), thus minimizing the number of interfaces. This means that only the data that is actually required is exchanged when the database is accessed.
A projection view can draw upon only one table. Selection conditions cannot be specified for projection views.
- Maintenance View ( SE54 )
Maintenance views enable a business-oriented approach to looking at data, while at the same time, making it possible to maintain the data involved. Data from several tables can be summarized in a maintenance view and maintained collectively via this view. That is, the data is entered via the view and then distributed to the underlying tables by the system.

You can assign a maintenance attribute P to individual fields in the maintenance view definition in the Dictionary (SE11). It can be H (hidden)
H (hidden)
A field flagged H is not displayed on the screen. This field must also be filled in the background by a routine at an event.
The system writes R and H fields to the database like all other fields when a new data record is saved.

Querying data from the maintenance view.

Hi Experts,
Well, i need the STEXT field value from the maintanance view V_T591A created for the standard table T591A.
Table T591A has the field Subtype but doesn't have the field Stext, which consists the description of the subtype. The Stext field is there in the maintenance view V_T591A.
So, if i want to query the respective description of the specific subtype, how do i get the values from the maintenance view?

It is not possible that way! U cannot Query directly from MV as a DB table.

Selection condition in maintenance view

I have one table with data related to 5 systems.
MSF, RET, SER, BOB, SAV, LED.
I need t o create views with related data for each system. But system BOB contains data related to MSF and RET, So instead of creating view for that i have to add MSF related data to MSF view and RET related data to RET view from BOB system. These all are from one table only.Can you please suggest me the selection condition for that in maintenance view.

I have a quick question. I have a maintenance view, and I want to do a select statement on this view in an ABAP program, but seems like the view is not filled with data when running the program.
How do I get the view to be populated at runtime in the ABAP program? the work area and the internal table is TYPE of the view..
Here's the code:

Just to inform you: "You can select data only from Database Views".
You can design a work-around for this, by taking look @ the Join tables. May i know form which View you want to get the data?

      when i did so , it displays a message that " entry mseg zeile must not be deleted ".
hense i went through writing a program to delete the records from table mmim_rep_cust
but it says that record not found.
program logic :
delete from mmim_rep_cust
    where report in report
      and TABNAME in TABNAME.
if sy-subrc = 0.
write ' RECORDS DELETED SUCCESSFULLY'.
else.
write ' RECORD NOT FOUND'.
endif.

Can not select from data dictionary view from a procedure

I wonder, which privilege is missing here:
my schema has this roles and privs:
GRANT CONNECT, RESOURCE TO cb ;
GRANT CREATE SESSION TO cb ;
GRANT SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE TO cb ;
GRANT CREATE SYNONYM TO CB;
GRANT CREATE VIEW TO CB;
I create a procedure:
create or replace procedure dd_test as
begin
     dbms_output.enable(2000000);
     for r in (select table_name from sys.dba_tab_partitions     where owner = 'CB') loop
               dbms_output.put_line(r.table_name);
     end loop;

When I run the core statement form sql prompt, it works !
so what privilege is missing here ???

thanks for that reply, after doing that I can not select this DD-view from sql-prompt anymore (which I don't wonder ;-). Can you tell me, what idea you had behind that test ?
I found another instance, where the procedure works and I will compare those privileges, but it's hard to sort out that complex structure of nested roles and sys_privs.
How ever, I will update here, when I found the missing privilege.

Problem selecting from VIEW

Hi All,
I have to select from a maintenance view which is well defined (in ABAP DDIC).
The problem is :

System is throwing a error saying the view is NOT defined in ABAP DDIC.

What can be the possible reason for this.
Can we NOT select from maintainance views ?

Selection from maintenance view

Hi,
I have created and activated a maintenance view from tables EKPO and EKKO. I needed an outer join so I had to use maintenance view instead of datbase view. When I see the data in the view using SE11 it works fine. However, when I try to select some fields from it using code it gives me an error message.
Eg.
REPORT Z_TEST_REP.
TABLES: Z_MAINTVIEW.
SELECT * FROM Z_MAINTVIEW.
WRITE: / Z_MAINTVIEW-MYFIELD1.
ENDSELECT.
When activating, this gives me the error message: "Z_MAINTVIEW" is not defined in the ABAP Dictionary as a table, projection view or database view.
Does this mean that it is not possible to select single fields from a maintenance view using the select statement? Is there any way I can do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Khan,
it is in the nature of EKKO (header) and EKPO (items) that you have 1 to n records (ittems) in EKPO with the same EBELN (purchase order document number). They all have different EBELP (item number values).
I just tried: You can create a database view with tables EKKO and EKPO with join condition EKKO-EBELN = EKPO-EBELN. In the view you also need EKKO-MANDT = EKPO-MANDT to make sure you stay in your client.
In the view fields, put all fields you want and/or need.
You can select from this view; works great.
Alternative: Use BAPI_PO_GETDETAIL to get all the header and item data you need. This is 100 % compliant with standard and (as I am convinced) with any programming guidelines.
- OK as I don't know the business scenario, it might be lesss than most appropriate...

Getting Data from Maintenance view V001N into ABAP program

Hello Experts,
I have to fetch data from the maintenance view V001N in my ABAP program. I have used select statement in my program but I am getting a syntax error 'V001N is not defined in the ABAP Dictionary as a table, projection view or database view. '. V001N is a Maintenance view.
Can anybody help me out how to get the data from that maintenance view into the internal table of my ABAP program.

hi all,
could anyone please tell me if there is any special way to read data from a maintenance view (if at all it is possible).
i wrote a simple select on it but it gave me a syntax error that the view is not defined in the dictionary. (i am able to see the view definition by double clicking and it is active too).
the following is my select.
select single lgnum from v_t320 into (w_lgnum) where werks eq p_i_werks and lgort eq p_i_lgort.

but the documentation on maintenance views says that we can have read access to them. Does that mean the data can only be seen via the DDIC and not from a select written in a program??

Maintenance Status
The maintenance status of a view controls whether data records can also be changed or inserted in the tables contained in the view.
The maintenance status can be defined as follows:
Read only: Data can only be read through the view.
Read, change, delete, insert: Data of the tables contained in the view can be changed, deleted, and inserted through the view.
Only read access is permitted for database views that are defined through several tables. If a database view contains only one single table, data can be inserted in this table through the view (see Inserts Through Database Views).
The following status definitions are also possible for maintenance views:
Read and change: Existing view entries can be changed. However, records cannot be deleted or inserted.
Read and change (time-dependent views): Only entries whose non-time-dependent part of the key is the same as that of existing entries may be inserted.
