  • Adobe PDF converter shows as permanently offline

I have Adobe Acrobat X installed as part of the CS5.5 Design Premium Suite.
Last month, I began having difficulty in printing to the Adobe PDF converter - this had always worked fine before. PDFs stopped appearing and are queued up in the print queue - the printer dialogue is heade "Adobe PDF Converter - Use Printer Offline" and I can see my documents stacked up there. Looking at the dilaogue box I see that "Use Printer offline" is ticked in the "Printer" drop down menu - I have tried un-ticking this but it has no effect- the tick remains resolutely there. I have tried pausing & restarting docs, to no effect.
I can work round this in Word and Excel by using the "Create PDF" tab. But Firefox disabled the Adobe PDF plug in with its latest upgrade (thank you, Mozilla!) and Chrome just produces a print preview, from which I select Adobe PDF converter as my printer. And Visio tells me the PDF printer is not on my system!
Problem is I do all my banking online and used happily to save records of payments & receipts as PDFs, but now I can't.
This is really frustrating and I hope somebody has an answer! (hopefully without losing the queued documents, but I guess that's unlikley)

I am running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on a Core2 Quad Q6600 2.40Ghz plus 4GB RAM. I use Office Professional 2010 (although I do ask myself a lot these days why I upgraded)

Try deleting the adobe printer PDF instance, then go to Acrobat and try to fix the installation.

  • Using PDF Converter Software available in desktop

    Hi Sap Gurus,
we have a PDF converter software which converts the Selected Word Document in to PDF format
This happens this way when we try to Print the word file instead of selecting the Printer we select the PDF converter Software icon displayed at Printer list menu.
the Word is converted to PDF at the Desired Location choosen.
Can i make use of this Software to Convert Released Documents to PDF Automatically.
or the Conversion server is required to be installed,
if it is possible please brief up the Steps
    Thanks and Regards
    Shanti

    Hi Shanti,
i guess you need to install a conversion server and define converetr and conversions in order to do automatic conversion during a status change of a dir.
We also do an office to pdf conversion. Unfortunately i found no (freeware) pdf converter available that has no screen entries necessary, which means printing in the background is not possible. So we use acrobat writer/distiller in order to accomplish this task. You need to do some vb scripting to open up the office file, change the printer to the pdf printer and print the file. Unfortunately the vbs code is of course different for word, excel, powerpoint. There is a nice article out there for word to pdf conversion http://www.suodenjoki.dk/us/productions/articles/word2pdf.htm . As you can read in the article you don't need the distiller anymore if you have a word 2007 which can write directly a pdf file.

  • Unable to print using PDF Converter from Photoshop

For years I have been able to select "Adobe PDF Converter" in my print dialogue box...resulting in the creation of a PDF file. Although the choice to use this printer driver is still an option, it won't generate a file. It gives me an error box, with no explanation as to what the error might be. Any ideas?
I'm using Photoshop CS3, and Windows Vista.

What version of Acrobat? Only Acrobat 9 is certified for Vista. Older versions do not cope with some of the driver and security stuff on Vista and therefore may not work correctly or not at all.

    Hi olivias,
It sounds like there may be some confusion on your system about what application should be associated with PDF files. You can reset filename associations by following the steps in these articles (depending on your operating system):

  • Pdf converter button on top of the browser disappeared.

I have adobe acrobat 9.  I had a Pdf converter button on top og the browser that I used to convert web pages to pdf documents.  This button disappeared last week.  Could it be restored?  I tried reinstalling the software and tried internet options to make sure third party extensions were checked.

Sorry, moving doesn't seem to be working right now, but you should post your question here:

  • What is the Select in Adobe PDF Convert do?

In Internet Explorer browser, there is this Adobe PDF Convert plugin. I know about the Convert button but what about the "Select" button. What does this do?

"Select" lets you select a specific portion of the web page. Then use of the Convert outputs the selection to PDF.
    Be well...

  • I have Nuance PDF Converter 7.2 and after I scan a document and want to email it, I get an error message that says the scan cannot be attached to an email.

I want to be clear: I can scan the document with Nuance PDF Converter 7.2, but after the scan, I want to email the scan to someone.
When I click on the word "email" on the left side of the Nuance screen, I get a failure message. For a couple of years this process worked without a problem. I was told by Nuance Support that the problem was in the email software. Is there something on a drop
down menu that I can click on the resolve the problem? Thanks.

The problem could be that your computer doesn't have Thunderbird identified as the default e-mail program, so the first step is:
Thunderbird: Menu bar: Tools: Options: Advanced Tab: System Integration:
    Press the "Check Now..." button.
In the resulting "System Integration" window, make sure that "E-Mail" is check-marked, and "Always perform this check when starting Thunderbird" is checked. Then click the "Set as Default" button.
If you have Windows 8 or 8.1, then there is also another step:<br>
Windows Control Panel: Programs: Default Programs: Set your default programs.<br>
Find "Thunderbird" on the left side, and click to select it.<br>
On the right side, click "Set this program as default".<br>
    Then reboot the computer.<br>
If the problem still exists, then do a clean install of Thunderbird:
Certain Thunderbird problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Thunderbird's program files and then reinstall Thunderbird. Please follow these steps:
#Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
#Delete the Thunderbird installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #** C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\
    #** C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Thunderbird from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Thunderbird with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Thunderbird on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird Download Page], simply remove the folder ''thunderbird'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Thunderbird:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to open Thunderbird after clicking the Finish button.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Thunderbird's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Thunderbird data, including but not limited to, extensions, emails, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!

Solution 1: Use a supported installation.
The following are unsupported installations, and the supported solutions:
If you install Acrobat (Professional or Standard) on a 64-bit operating system, then you may
see this error. Please update Acrobat to version 8.1 or later. You can update from within
Acrobat via the help pull-down menu, or download the updater from the following location:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows.
If you install Acrobat to a shared network disk instead of a local hard disk, then the Adobe PDF
printer is not installed. Install Acrobat on a local hard disk.

Solution 2: Ensure that the Print Spooler process is running and set to
    Automatic, and then repair Acrobat.
    1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Administrative Tools and then double-click Services.
    3. Locate the service Print Spooler.
    4. If the Startup Type is not Automatic, then set it to Automatic:
    a. Right-click the Print Spooler.
    b. Choose Properties.
    c. Choose the General tab.
    d. Choose Automatic in the Startup Type menu.
    e. Click OK.
    5. If the Print Spooler service is not running, then start it.
    a. Right-click the Print Spooler line.
    b. Select Start from the menu.
    6. Start Acrobat, and choose Help > Detect And Repair.
Solution 3: Ensure that the Print Spooler process has no additional
    dependencies.
Only the Remote Procedure Call dependency is required for Print Spooler to operate.
Additional Services can attach to the process but will interfere with restarting the service.
If the Print Spooler process has additional dependencies, then please refer to the steps
    below.
To remove all services listed under "This service depends on the following system
    components":
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Administrative Tools and then double-click Services.
    3. Right-click Print Spooler and choose Properties.
    4. Click the Dependencies tab.
    5. Record services under "This service depends on the following system components" and click
    OK.
Imporatnt: Remote Procedure Call is a system service and should not be removed.
    6. Temporarily remove associated programs for the listed services.
    7. Contact the service vendor for removal information if removal of associated software does
    not remove the service.
    8. Start Acrobat, and choose Help > Detect And Repair.
To disable all services listed under "The following system components depend on this
    service":
    1. Choose Start > Set

I am having similar problems. After years of successful use, about a year ago, my printer (Epson stylus Photo R300) stopped working. After much investigation, it appears my computer no longer recognizes my printer. I've followed resets, safe boots, uninstalls, reinstalls, etc. This happened so long ago, I don't recall what I was doing when it happened. I'm figuring it happened shortly after a Software Update... So far none of the fixes recommended to me have solved the problem. I've been using Epson customer support, but they've stopped responding. None of their suggestions have seemed to work either.

  • Adobe PDF Converter fails to create PDF

    Hi,
This is my first post here. I've searched the forums but have failed to find any posts describing my specific problem.
I am trying to print to PDF using the "Adobe PDF Converter" device, but whenever I try to do so I am presented with a window labeled "Creating Adobe PDF" with a pull-down menu labeled "Document Name" that is entirely empty and a Hide button. Also the window states:
    PDF Name: Untitled.pdf
    PDF Folder: C:\Users\Name\Desktop
If I click the pull-down menu it rolls down with about five empty lines. Now, regardless whether I press the hide button or not, there is no PDF output created in the PDF folder.
This happens regardless of which application I am printing from, e.g. Notepad, Chrome, etc.
This is how I get to the "Creating Adobe PDF" dialog: Ctrl-p -> Choose "Adobe PDF Converter" in the print dialog, then click print -> then choose an output filename in the "Save PDF file as" dialog -> "Creating Adobe PDF" dialog appears.
I have Adobe Design Premium CS3 installed on a Windows 7 32-bit machine.
I have tried reinstalling the "Adobe PDF Converter" printer device, but that didn't help.
Any advice how to fix this would be much appreciated. Thanks
    Andreas

It would appear you are using a different converter, not sure. The one that comes with Acrobat will appear in the printer list as the "Adobe PDF" printer. When you select to print to the Adobe PDF printer, you should get a Save As menu. Then it would proceed. However, I believe that CS3 comes with AA8 and that is likely the problem. To be successful at all, you will need to be sure to update Acrobat to the most current version of AA8 and then it may work. Adobe does not support AA8 on a Win 7 platform and only would recommend an upgrade.
    That is some thoughts.

  • Im looking for a mac PDF converter.

I recently loaded Apple mac's DF conveter, but it has disappeared. Any ideas?

What PDF converter is that? I didn't know that Apple has a PDF converter. Maybe you mean the application Preview which can convert Pdf files to .png and other file formats.

  • Adobe PDF Converter port

    Hi
A client Windows 7 64bit computer can't print PDF files using the Adobe PDF Converter that was installed by the Adobe CS3 Design package.
I checked and realized that the printer port "Desktop\*.pdf"  was missing
I followed the recommended procedure to create the required printer port :
    =================
    Manually install the PDF Printer
Click Start >  Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    Select Add a printer
    Select Add a local printer
Check Use an existing port and select Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) from the drop down.  Click Next
    Click the Have Disk… button
    Click the Browse… button
    Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
Select AdobePDF.inf from the list, then click the OK button
You will see many Adobe PDF Converters in the list, however count six down from the top and click Next (you may need to try this numerous times to find the correct Converter from the list that works with your version of Windows)
Name your printer, e.g. Adobe PDF
Follow the rest of the prompts and your PDF printer should now be installed correctly
    =================
Unfortunately I get errors when the setup tries to copy the Adobepdf.dll file over to System32
I disabled UAC and tried again but the errors are still present
    any idea ?
    thanks
    yann

CS3 is very old. What is that, Acrobat 8? If so, make sure you are at least updated to Acrobat 8.1.0

  • Adobe PDF converter printer driver not installed: No longer working.

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled my Epson printer and now my PDF converter isn't working.
I'm using Win XP and Adobe CS3 Design Standard. I tried several of the suggestions here on the forums on reinstalling PDF converter driver and or switching ports, but to no avail.

    Problem Solved !!!
    Printer Name: Adobe PDF
    Port: Adobe PDF Local Port
    Advanced: Driver: Adobe PDF Converter
Spool Print  and Start printing Immediately (Uncheck Send to Printer)
Once I got the above in place I was then finally able to install as noted below:
Try adding it manually: These instructions are for Windows 7 but I don't
think Vista's install varied much, if at all.
    1) Open the Devices and Printers dialog box and select Add a Printer
    2) Add a* Local Printer* at the next dialog box asking what type of printer
    you want to install.
    3. Select* Create  A New Port* at the Choose Printer Port and select* Local
Port at* the type of port dropdown menu.
    4. Click Next, then at the prompt name the Port "Adobe PDF" or whatever you
    prefer.
    5. Click OK and at the Install Printer Driver dialogue box, click Have
Disk and browse to *C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat
10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF* folder and highlight the AdobePDF.inf file.
    Click Open, then OK.
    6.  When presented with a list of Adobe PDF Converter options, select the
first item from the list and click Next.
    7. Make sure the radio button is selected for Use the driver that is
    currently installed (Recommended) Click Next.
    8. The printer name dialogue box should default to Adobe PDF Converter, if
not change it to that exact name.
    9. Then click Next through remaining screens to install.
At this point, the printer should be installed.  Hopefully this helps.
