Selling water damaged Macbook Pro (Model A1286, 15", mid-2012) for parts?

So I recently had an unfortunate incident where I spilled water on the keyboard of my MacBook Pro (A1286, 15", mid-2012, standard model). These were the results of Apple's assessment of the computer:
LSI sensors under the battery were not tripped.
Top case does not work. Upon removal of the top case, the computer is able to power up.
HDD is not bootable. Disk verification failed, unable to repair. HDD wiped.
Oxidation on logic board.
AST passed.
I was told the top case would cost approximately $300, but that even if the top case were to be replaced, there's still no guarantee that on how long the logic board will last thereafter since water did make contact with it. After deliberating, I decided that, in the long run, it would be more cost effective for me to buy a new laptop instead of repairing this one. So here's my question: how much should I be selling this thing for parts for? And where would I have the best luck selling it? It's just over a year old (purchased July 9th, 2012), so externally it still looks pretty good (it does have a couple stickers on the top, but I'm planning on removing those before I sell it). I plan on leaving the HDD and battery in the computer. I also still have the original box and what not (no charger though), and I'm fairly sure I still have the OS X disks (although they're for Lion since I bought it shortly before Mountain Lion's release and then just digitally upgraded to Mountain Lion). I've poked around Ebay a bit to get an idea, but most of the MBPs being sold for parts on there have quite a few differences between mine, so I was hoping someone on here could give me a rough estimate of what a reasonable price to ask for my machine in particular is. Any help is much appreciated!

You put it on eBay with exactly the info you posted here and you get whatever soomeone is willing to pay for it. There is no value you can set on it or price you can expect. If someone is willing to pay anything for it you are on the Plus Side.
Post it AS IS with NO RETURNS and take whatever you get.

Remove the SSD from the old MBP and put it in an external USB enclosure. Connect to your new MBP and transfer your files. You can find a good enclosure at OWC.

Not without using a VM. XP is no longer supported in Boot Camp or on newer Apple computers.

I've connected one external monitor to a Macbook Pro (non-retina, 13", mid 2012) using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Can I connect a second external monitor using a USB to DVI or USB to HDMI adapter? Will the Macbook Pro recognize a monitor connected to the USB port?

What to do with water damaged MacBook Pro?

I've had my MacBook Pro 13" since late last year and since then have spilt soda on it 2 times. The first time it didn't seem to be damaged at all by it but the second time the macbook turned off and I left it for a while before trying to turn it on again. It started up but I needed to use internet recovery to be able to get into it after. I've been using the mac and it works fine but the trackpad will not work, the backlit keyboard is faded in some keys and whenever I turn the macbook off and try turning it on again it flashes a file with a question mark and will only start up properly after a few times of trying. I have recently brought it to the apple store and they said that they won't fix it even if I have warranty because it is water damaged but I can pay $800 to get it fixed although it still may not work after fixing it. I was wondering if I could sell the macbook somewhere and just buy a new mac? but how much would a water damaged mac be worth? does anyone have any solutions?

Until you plan on keeping it completely away from all liquids, I'd suggest simply continuing to use it for as long as it lasts.
Once you commit to protecting a new one, consider yourself lucky that it works at all and make a complete backup of what's on your internal drive while you still can so you can transfer that to whatever the replacement is (using Setup Assistant). And for not much more than what you'd pay to get it fixed, you could get a refurbished MBP from Apple which would have a warranty.

As Klaus1 says, a dead Mac isn't worth anything. But if you did get it fixed with the understanding that it might not work at all or for very long, how would you feel if someone else sold that to you.

Hello, I spilled water last night which got on my Macbook Pro. I wiped off the water and moved the computer out of it to dry overnight. The computer was still on when I moved it as the lid was closed, but it wasn't turned off. I woke up this morning and it was neither accepting charge from my charger (which is functional) or turning on. I'm wondering what the best steps at this point would be?

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

Water damaged MacBook Pro still working perfectly

In July I spilled about an ounce of liquid on my 13" MacBook Pro, in the area around the L/K buttons. I quickly shut it off and turned it upside down for a few days. I then sent it in to Apple and they called back to tell me that it would surely fry in the next week or so and there was no hope to save it. They said I had no choice but to buy a new one. So I bought a new one. 4 months have now passed and the "damaged" one still works perfectly. Can I sell it, and if so, how much money should I sell it for? It has the complete Logic Pro 9 music recording software installed on it, if that adds any value.

Yes, you have our permission to sell it. You can check online at various sites (craigslist, ebay) to see what a similar piece of equipment is worth - to the user, at least.

Water damaged macbook pro not turning on

My macbook pro got wet this morning, the ports were a bit wet and after I cleaned off the water it turned on and worked fine. Now, a few hours later it fill not turn on, I have tried everything!!!!!!! Please help me, please?!?!?!?! It had an incipio feather light case on, which may have trapped some of the water.

Let it sit, powered off, out of the case, for at least a day. And hope.

Recovering data from a water damaged MacBook Pro

A week ago I managed to rather carelessly spill a glass of water over my Late 2013 rMBP (no pun intended). I took the laptop to the Genius bar where they told me the motherboard was fried and the laptop was dead. Considering the extent of the damage and the uncertainty of the feasibility of repair I decided to replace my old rMBP with the 2015 one.
My old rMBP contained some fairly important data that I would certainly want to recover but more importantly I would like to import the system itself into the replacement laptop as it contains my Windows 8 bootcamp partition which I think is far too much of a hassle to re-install. I am quite confident the SSD itself is not water damaged, although I have heard that the storage devices between these two iterations of the rMBP are incompatible - which may or may not be true - I don't know. Anyhow, I would like to know how I can either browse the content of the SSD or import it into my replacement laptop.
Is this even possible? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe, I just cannot say with authority. Even if they were physically the same, the question is what OSX is on the older SSD. If it is older than the one the new MBP came with, it will not work.

My repaired water damaged macbook pro has no audio with the icon greyed out. i tried all the suggestions but nothing seems to work. however, on my external clone, the output does work. any ideas about this?

I tried reseting the pram, reinstalling the software, plugging the headphone jack in and out, deleting playlist but nothing works. on the external clone, the output works with noise but still no input device.
can i use a sound card instead?

If you just had the system repaired for water damage what did they replace? If it was the Logic board then all parts should work and if they don't, like the sound, then they didn't fix it correctly and you should take it back to them for a proper fix.

Do you think Apple should reward your clumsiness or lack of caution by giving you a logic board for free, or at cost? Come to think of it, shouldn't they just give you a free new computer, and be grateful to you for taking it off their hands?

Water damaged MacBook Pro - powers up, but wrong language keyboard is on and I can't log in. How to fix?

Over a month ago my cat dumped a glass of water on my laptop. I unplugged it and let it dry for days but it never turned on. I plugged it back in a few weeks later and it powers up, turns on and prompts me to log in like always. I type my password but it tells me it's wrong. After so many tries it prompts you to reset your Apple ID password and shows you what you're typing. This is where I see the problem - my keyboard is now set to a different language, but what I can't tell? Turkish maybe? Anyone know of any shortcuts to fixing this or is my laptop toast?

If you can post a photo of what you see there, I can perhaps at least tell you whether it actually is another language or just junk that indicates the keyboard is damaged.

How much is it to repair a water damaged macbook pro?

My boyfriend spilled beer on my laptop quite some time ago. I haven't been able to go into the Apple store to get it checked out because I've been so busy. A few of the keys don't work and the backlight (where the beer was spilled) is very dim, other than that it still works perfectly fine. I read online somewhere that you shouldn't turn it on at all until it's been checked out but I've been using it perfectly fine just with these annoying faults. How much will it cost me to have it repaired? In GBP, because I live in the UK.

Went to the Apple store (like you suggested) and it's only going to cost me £135 to repair which I'm so happy about. He said only the top case is damaged but the liquid didn't manage to get all the way inside my computer so it's great news...we would've been forking out hundreds if the liquid had gotten in deeper!

Torn between buying either the New (Mid 2012) 13" Macbook Pro or the New (Mid 2012) 13" Macbook Air

Which notebook do you think has more "life" in it? Which will be the more outdated machine sooner i.e. which one do you think Apple will stop supporting and allowing you to update to the most current OS? I'm going to get the base model of either and probably upgrade to the 8G of RAM since it's only $100 bucks more.
From my research thus far it seems to pan out like this:
Pro: More HD space, but slower hard drive. Screen isn't as nice. More powerful processor but I have read that performance is somehow equal to the Air (this is where I'm a little confused).
Air: Less HD space, but the SSD makes the machine open apps and such faster. Prettier screen. Equal performance even though the processor is not as powerful (again ?????). It's just cooler looking and perhaps Apple will be phasing out the base level Macbooks in favor of Airs in the future (just a guess).
I will mostly use the computer at home, but it's looking likely I'll be traveling for work soon. Even then the notebook probably won't leave my extended stay. I will mostly be using it for fun: web surfing, streaming movies to my xbox via Vuze (I usually delete movies/shows after 1 viewing), email, ect. I don't do any photo or movie editing but I may mess around with Garageband a bit. Any other words of wisdom on choosing between the two systems, or if for my needs you think I should go with something completely different, would be helpful as well

A year ago it would have been a 'no contest' situation in my mind. the MBP would bethe choice hands down. Since you can get SSD replacements/upgrades from OWC (and probably others as well) the Air looks far more attractive. SSD prices are going to fall quite rapidly and what might be a prohibitory expensive upgrade today will not be so in the near future.
I have come to accept (grudgingly) that the future of an internal DVD drive is limited, but the slim ones that Apple has available convinces me that is no longer such a big issue. I do not subscribe to the argument that all downloads can always be done via the Internet. No communications protocol is 100% perfect as is the hardware supporting it.
You are the final arbiter in this decision and I will not endorse one over the other. Simply put, either one is a good choice from my perspective.
