Sending my ASCII art over skype messenger

Trying to send my ASCII art to a friend and having trouble.
There are a couple BIG issues. One is that some of the strings get rendered as emoticons. This can be worked around, like substituting ;| for on a shaded border. This isn't IDEAL, but gets the job done. It would be great if I could specify that my message shouldn't render any emoticons.
The problem I haven't been able to solve is the FONTS. I can not figure out how to get a fixed-width font accross skype messenger. I can paste rich text into the box or specify the font in the box, and my art looks great in the box. Invariably each time I press enter, the message appears in the chat window in a variable-length font MESS.
For example, if I put an ASCII monkey in the box, it looks great:
  w  c(..)o   (
      w /|
       | \
ejm97 m  m
Then I send the message, and I get something like this:
  w  c(..)o   (
      w /|
       | \
ejm97 m  m
Which isn't what I want to send at all!
Anybody else had trouble with this? It would be great if there were a solution. I'm very eager to use skype for instant messenging ASCII art!
Thanks!

Skype does not use a proportional font which is why ASCII art does not produce good results.

  • I can't send Pages documents over Skype

    I try to send a Pages document over Skype, but it says words to the effect "Only regular data files can be sent". I tried to zip it using the contextual menu create archive command, all I got was a beep. My wife swears that she can't even send them as attachments. Could someone enlighten us here, what are we doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

    I try to send a Pages document over Skype, but it
    says words to the effect "Only regular data files can
    be sent".
    Pages documents are actually a folder of files. So they can't just be attached to an email and sent. The solution is to first compress the document and send it as a zip/archive file. Thankfully, Mail in 10.4 does this automatically but other mail programs don't.
    I tried to zip it using the contextual menu
    create archive command, all I got was a beep.
    Do you mean you couldn't create an archive in Mac OS X? Or that Skype beeped when trying to transfer the file?
    If you mean Skype couldn't transfer the file then this would be a Skype problem. .zip files are a PC and Mac standard, so there's not reason they couldn't be emailed or shared via Skype.

  • ASCII ART with SMS

    Is anyone know what is the structure of ASCII Art in SMS format? some i found is using line.separator, which allow do draw alots of ASCII art in 160 characters...
    im trying to create an application on server which able to create ASCII ART and send as SMS to any mobile phone, is anyone has any idea? this project is just started and im currently doing research now. Or any sites to refer?
    regards,
    howsen

    Sure, you could use \r or \n (or both) as a line sep in an SMS. But note, that lots of phones do not have monospaced fonts, and therefore ASCII art will just be rubbish (apport for the various screen sizes you'll have to take account for).
    Still, sounds like a fun idea ;)

  • My iPhone 4S has stopped receiving iMessages, cannot send/load any pictures over whatsapp, cannot join the wifi in my house anymore. What has happened to my iPhone i haven't made any changes?

    My iPhone 4S has stopped receiving/sending iMessages, cannot send/load any pictures over whatsapp and cannot join the wifi in my house anymore.
    Essentially all the things I use my phone for have now stopped working. I constantly have 3G connected (even though i dont want to use it, i want to connect to the wifi in my house) but still when I try to download/ send a picture over whatsapp it comes up with an error message saying the server is unverified, or something equally ridiculous.
    I deleted the app so i could reinstall it (as if that would help), but the app store is started saying "unable to connect", despite 3G, so that bright idea died out pretty sharpish.
    Whenever i try to turn on iMessage, it asks for my Apple ID password, which I know I've typed in correctly because I reset the **** thing about 4 times due to it apparently being "incorrect". Even so, it repeatedly asks for the password over and over as soon as I've entered it, saying it was "unable to connect" before a final "incorrect password" message pops up just to add an extra smack of annoyance.
    I haven't changed a single setting on my iPhone whatsoever. It just suddenly started spiralling into what is now £28/month-worth of pure frustration.
    I don't even have any music or photos on it as I had to free up 3.5GB of space on the **** thing to allow it to update, naively thinking that would solve the problem, but alas it did not.
    I have seen a few questions posted like this one, usually just one of the problems I have, but I seem to have rounded up the whole bunch (lucky me). None of the previously posted questions have received any replies.
    Can some please help me! Honestly, if i see another "unable to..." or "unverified source" pop up again I'll probably smash the thing against the side of my house.
    Cheers.

    On your iPad, go to [Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings] Once that is done, re-connect your iPad to your wifi network.

  • How to send a text file over a LAN?

    Hi:
    I am working on a program (web app using a servlet), that produces a text file with Key / Value pairs ex) NAME
    joe
    CITY
    los angeles
    I want to send the text file over an intranet (LAN) to another pc and store it in the C:\temp directory of the receiving computer.
    Is it best to use the Networking package? Any idea on tutorials or code samples to help assist me? (I posted on Servlet Technology forum; nobody answered though...thanks for any thoughts.

    one way cud be that u write a program to open a port on the computer u want to store and make that program save on the required directory. then u can send a simple file in byte format over it. but doing this only wud b unsafe as others wud also hav the access. wat u cud do to prevent is to put some kind of password so that first u authenticate to server b4 u pass on the file.

  • Creating ascii art in Illustrator

    Hello,
    This is my first time posting and I'm hoping you can help me.
    I'd like to color letters of a text so that from afar the colored letters look like an image. The perfect example is ascii art - each character is colored appropriately so that as a whole it depicts an image of some sort.
    My question is this: How do you color each letter to an image I have already created? I've tried playing with opacity masks but that colors the text as well as the background [of the text]. I only want the text to be colored.
    Can you please tell me how I can achieve this?
    Thank you.

    I've tried playing with opacity masks but that colors the text as well as the background...
    Don't use the artwork to mask the text; use the text to mask the artwork. Be aware, of course, an opacity mask does not address the problem of characters that are "split" by two adjacent colors:

  • Looking for an ASCII Art filter - possible to build from scratch?

    I would like an ASCII art filter for Final Cut Pro. The closest I have found so far is one for imovie from stupendous software (http://www.stupendous-software.com/).
    Does anyone know of one I've overlooked for Final Cut Pro?
    If not, do you think creating a filter using whatever ascii art generator's are already out there would be a worthwhile attempt for someone with little programming knowledge?

    Hi,
    Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer! The function that I picked just to test what you need to do just happened to return a string that contains SPAN tags with style attributes. The actual function code is:
    create or replace FUNCTION out_string_fn
       RETURN VARCHAR2
    IS
       CURSOR emp_cur
       IS
          SELECT ename
            FROM emp;
       v_string   VARCHAR2 (4000);
    BEGIN
       v_string := ' ';
       FOR c IN emp_cur
       LOOP
          v_string :=
                v_string
             || '<SPAN style="font-weight:bold;color:green">'
             || c.ename
             || '</SPAN>'
             || ', </br></br>';
       END LOOP;
       RETURN v_string;
    END;And this returned a naff list in green (see [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=55041:57] and click the Test button) - but it does show that you can style the validation error messages

  • Computer graphics: from ASCII art to animated GIFs

    Today's state-of-the-artanimated GIFshave a proud history.ASCII art Image credit: Chris.comAt the dawn of the computer age, computer graphics were crude. Computers were best at manipulating numbers and text, so developers created programs that used alphanumeric characters to create images. Some programming courses assigned students the task of writing a program to generate banners of giant letters made of many smaller letters. This ASCII art could portray recognizable images, but at incredibly low resolution.In the early days of the personal computer, when bulletin board systems became popular venues for home computers to share files, ASCII art evolved into ANSI art, which used an extended ASCII character set and ANSI escape sequences to create 16-color images.ANSI art Image credit: norbert79One of the big competitors to individual...

    I am afraid you will have to learn to live with conversion issues between Illustrator and Fireworks: Fireworks, although doing a very good job, is NOT Illustrator, and I found that complex artwork often includes parts that are very difficult for FW to retain in their original quality.
    A work-around is to bring in the artwork in parts, and manually fix the broken bits and pieces as you go along.
    And, of course, you can always save the Illustrator work as a very high resolution bitmap version, and import that into Fireworks. I mean: the graphics are produced in Illustrator, and they do not need to be editable in Fireworks, do they?
    Anyway, it is curtains for Fireworks - it's no longer being updated or developed. Photoshop now has Generator, which is arguably a better approach to web export than Firework's aging slicing. The smart objects (including their new state option) and new alignment tools, and the many plugins and improvements make Photoshop quite useful as a replacement. Smart objects in Photoshop display even extremely complicated AI files without a hitch.

  • How do I get labview for linux to send out ascii code to a motion controller?

    I have posted part of this problem but I will now try to clearify things. I have an x-y stage that needs motion control. I have to run the motion controller from within a linux system (RedHat 7.1) due to others in the research area. I have found a motion controller card (PCI) that will run under linux. This card is not National Instruments. I understand that they do not have drivers for their controller cards. This other card comes with the companies own software that uses ASCII codes to move the motors on the stage. I was hoping to create a program that could call those ASCII codes to move the stage. An example would be if a user wanted to have the stage move to the right he would press a b
    utton on the screen instead of typing in whatever ASCII could that move to the right happens to be. How would I go about programming something like this? I have heard of others doing things like this but I am unsure of how to program labview to send out ASCII codes to a PCI card to move motors.

    > would I go about programming something like this? I have heard of
    > others doing things like this but I am unsure of how to program

    Look in the manual to see get familiar with the sequences of codes you
    need to write, and more importantly, where you write them to. I suspect
    a memory location, but it could be a socket or port.
    Each of these locations will have a slightly different way of accessing
    it. Once you know, search devzone for how to do it on linux, or post
    back here.
    After you can send the codes to the right location, you probably want to
    build a state machine that simplifies the interface and prevents certain
    actions from taking place. Now determine which buttons or
    keys perform
    which actions and use either the event structure or the older polling
    for control changes to affect state changes in the state machine.
    I'm summarizing here assuming that you know what a state machine is and
    why you'd want to use it. If I'm assuming too much, do some research
    and post again with more specific questions. Also be sure to look at
    example VIs as they show how to respond to UI actions.

  • Image to ascii art and back converters

    I've wanted to find a good image to ascii art converter for ages but have never found one that did everything I'd hope. I had another look today and rediscovered aalib and libcaca. I haven't look into the libraries themselves because I don't want to write my own application (yet?).
    libcaca's img2txt looked promising at first but it seems to be limited to the basic 16 color terminal palette even in urxvt-256-unicode. Is there some setting that determines this? I would really like to try to watch videos in mplayer using 256 colors or more. I've tried using the different driver env variables but they all seem to use 16 colors. It even uses 16 colors when generating TGA image files.
    I also discovered jp2a which is great so far. It's slightly annoying that it's limited to jpg (wtf would anyone choose jpg as your input format for a conversion utility?) but imagemagick's "convert" and some piping do the trick. Again it seems that jp2a only uses the basic 16 bit color palette when printing to the terminal, but it has a full palette when generating html. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be able to generate image files, only direct console ascii and HTML.
    For now I have added jp2a to tiv as an optdep. It uses the full terminal color palette and can even adapt the palette per image to make the most of it. I get some nice ascii output now with "tiv -r 0.6 -a -j /path/to/img". But that as well lacks the ability to convert back to an image format.
    Is there nothing that can convert image files to (full-palette, i.e. >= 256) colored ascii art and then convert the output to its own image? I would really like a way to do batch conversions (e.g. to convert films, if no mplayer codec can do it).
    In particular, does anyone have any simple ideas for converting an HTML-encoded ascii image to a real image file? I expect that it would be relatively simple to use webkit to create a simple utility for this, but I doubt that it would be  easy to do quickly without any experience of webkit.
    *sigh*

  • Best Practice to send AQ message to over 30 databases

    Hello, Hoping someone can help. I'm running 11gR2 AQ and wondering what the best practice is to send a message to over 30 databases every few seconds. Due to setup of customer sites this is our only option. However, All databases are in the same data center. I'm thining about doing the multi-consumer queue and have each of the 30 databases subscribe. I believe I can setup an individual propagation queue queue_to_queue for each one but wondering if this is the best thing to do. Also, I was reading about some type of call back (Which I saw on Tom Kyte's website)....but wondering if this would work for 30 db's.
    Anyone have experience with this configuration it would be great to hear your ideas. Thanks

    Can't you just enqueue to a multi consumer queue and have each subscriber subscribe to that queue?
    Also, is there TTL with AQ's such that a subscriber only has a limited window with which it can expect to get the message from the multi consumer queue?

    did you mean i must create a new object inside that frame (like JPanel), instead of painting the frame itself?, Yes.
    but how if you want to put picture or even painting the object itself?I don't really understand. Do as you have in your current code but do it in the paintComponet method of a JPanel and set the JPanel as the 'content pane' of your JFrame. I don't know how else to say it!

  • Sending and receiving SOAP over JMS in XI

    Hai All,
    I am working on a scenario in which I have to send a SOAP message over JMS adapter to XI and receive again the SOAP message over the JMS adapter.
    Here my questions are:
    1.How can I configure the JMS adapter to get the SOAP messages into XI.
    Thanks in Advance
    Srikanth

    Hi,
    1. Get the WSDL of the soap message and send it as a payload to the JMS adapter including the SOAP envelope.
    OR
    2. You can create the structer of teh SOAP body and while sending it and receiving it you can use either XSLT or JAVA or ABAP mapping to add and remove the SOAP envelope. So you can send/receive them as a payload to the JMS adapter
