Sensitive problem of the on/off button of iPhone5

I bought an unlock iPhone5 last December from the apple store in New Hampshire, and I find it has a sensitive problem on the on/off button yesterday.
I can't find the receipt now and how can I fix it? Is it still covered by the 1 year warranty? As I'm living in the Boston area, can I just bring it to the apple store in Boston and fix it in store?

Yes, the phone has the 1 year warranty from the day you bought it. When you activate the phone through a wireless network it will send that information over to Apple. Apple will have information when you activated the phone over a celluar network. You don't need to connect it to itunes anymore to register it. I highly recommend you do register it just in case.
You can just take it into the Apple Store and get the phone replaced at no cost. I had my phone replaced with minor damage and they replaced it no questions asked for the Sleep button problem.
Also they replaced my phone no matter what name it is under as long the serial number isn't blocked by AppleCare (Meaning if its stolen or not).
They told me the Sleep button problem is a manufacturers defect so they will replace any phone no matter what condition as long it meets the Sleep Button Defect Guidlines.

I bought an iPhone 5 around fifteen days back and it has already started to give problem with the on/off button. I have to press it five six times to switch it on or off. I am so frustrated by the fact that if I bring it to the service centre, I am going to get a refurbished phone in place of my brand new phone which I just bought. The idea of a used phone repulses me. Any solutions ?

Why?  Your current phone is used... it has been since the instant it was removed from the shrink wrap and turned on.

Live with the phone as is.
Take the device to Apple for evaluation... it may not need replacement.
Even if it does, neither you or the Apple tech should be able to tell if the replacement is new or refurbished.

  • HT201401 I have a problem in the on/off button it dont work all times

When i press on the on/off button most of the tmes it didnt work ,so i should try many times to work ,plz help

    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
    2. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • Anyone had a problem with the on/off button or sleep/awake button becoming difficult to push

the button has become stiff or maybe its broke...if you push hard enough it still works but you have to take the protective cover on an off which is a hassle

I have the same problem with my iPad 1. Have you found a fix?

  • TS3274 has anyone had a problem with the on/off button being stuck down?  my IPad is on, but the power button is stuck down and I cannot power off

I have and IPad 2.  I realized (while travelling by air) that my power button was stuck in the down position.  I cannot power off my IPad.  Wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue and what you may have done to rectify?  I think Apple may be aware of this problem.  I stopped into an Apple store and they were not supprised, but I could  not make an appt because I was traveling and did not live in the area.  Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • Is the on/off button bad function a hardware problem? What can I do if a mobile company don't fix this? Besides, my phone still have the apple warranty

Hello everyone, I bought an iPhone 5 six months ago from a mobile company. now the on/off button is not working properly. I send it to this company technical service support and they didn’t fix it saying that the button problems are not covered by the warranty; moreover they say that warranty just covers software and hardware problems. First, is the on/off button bad function a hardware problem? What can I do if a mobile company don’t fix this? Besides, my phone still have the apple warranty

The on/off button on my iPhone 5S is difficult to use.  Sometimes I have to use a golf tee to get it to shut off.  Is this a common problem and can it be fixed?

I'm not sure what difference it makes if its a common problem or not but as its a hardware problem it needs to fixed so take it into an Apple store or authorized iPhone service provider and ask them what can be done.

You won't lose any data unless you erase your hard drive.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c"key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it.When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've selected the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.

  • How do I get the on-off button to work again?

I have an iPod nano, 6th generation. The on-off button has stopped working, therefore I can't turn off the display screen until it does it itself and when I'm away from my wall charger, I can't turn the iPod on to change a song.
The button doesn't even click anymore, it just gives a little push but no click.
How do I get this fixed? My warranty has just run out, too.

Hi, madperson! And thanks for your reply. Yesterday, when I posted my query, I had already ran FF in safe mode and checked all (and few) ext/addons I have. The problem persisted, so I posted my question. This morning, however, the glitch seems to have cleared itself! The New Tab button and the "+" icon both work like before! Don't ask me what happened, I could not even begin to try to explain. Anyway, here are the ext/addons I have: Norton Vulnerability Protection; Personas; Flash Video Downloader; Groowe Search Toolbar (which was suggested by Mozilla); and Yahoo Toolbar. Thanks again for your help, I appreciate it.

  • WiFi ON/OFF button Doen't Work, the IPod doesn't show the on/off button in the Settings- General - WiFi

After My IPod Touch 4th Geneartion was broken I had to fix the screen, which cost me a lot, after a perfect restore through the ITunes I went to connect to my IPod to the WiFi network then the WiFi ON/OFF button Doen't Work, the IPod doesn't show the on/off button in the Settings-> General -> WiFi.
And another problem I encountered during this operation was that the Games I downloaded through the ITunes doesn't work, when I click on the icon ( Game Icon) it starts an then closes in a few seconds

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

I'm talking about the PAID FOR "Personal Hotspot" AT&T feature that comes with a 4GB dataplan. If you have a Jailbroken phone then this isn't for you.... Anyway, upgraded to IOS 5 and at the worst possible time I discovered that my phone no longer had the ability to share it's over the air data with my Laptop. Restarting the phone didn't help, turning cellular data on and off didn't help and after hitting a wall I called AT&T's tech support number as I had a strong suspicion what the problem was and that they'd be able to help. Despite explaining the problem and proposing a quick fix the agent made reference to an internal memo saying there are bugs in IOS 5 and that my lack of tether was an Apple software issue and I had to call them. Frankly in this case it's VERY MUCH an AT&T provisioning issue, and one AT&T should have their techs deal with in 30 seconds rather than waste customer's time pointing fingers. After a long and frustrating attempt to get the tech to fix the problem I ended the call by CANCELLING my tether plan and going back to the "Regular" 2GB plan. Reason being hat if it's an IOS bug then it will be weeks I'm paying for service that I'm not getting, or if I was right the problem would be fixed on my next call to AT&T. For giggles I called and spent a very miserable 40 minutes dealing with Apple's IVR and nice but dim tech who was more concerned that I didn't have Apple care than anything else. That call ended with Apple saying it's not them and I should call AT&T support... However, instead of beating my head against the wall again I called SALES and asked them to add 4GB data and teher to my phone. 5 minutes later I had working tether. Problem solved. Basically to enable tether the phone has to pass a sanity check that it hasn't been tampered with, and then to activate the feature a fil is pushed down over the air to "Bless" the iPhone. I suspect as part of the IOS upgrade something went out of whack with either the file or the anti-tamper checks. Solution was to reprovision tethering, but AT&T support wouldn't hear of it. So, if you have lost tethering after an IOS 5 upgrade and AT&T support won't help then the solution is pretty painless. A) call customer service (not tech support) and CANCEL your tethering and extended dataplan. B) Turn your phone off for 5 minutes, then wait another 30 mins or so and call SALES. Ask them to add Tethering and extended data to your account. C) Wait another 30 minutes, or if you're impatient you can try turning your phone on and off again, and you'll be back in business. The down side to the is is you pay for two data plans for this month, but get a credit for the overlap next month (ie net you don't lose out). Hoping AT&T reads this and stops wasting everyone's time by enabling 1st level support to deprovision and then reprovision tether without messing with billing. We can live in hope, but until then I hope this may help someone being bounced around in a game of "Blame Tennis". Once again AT&T = All Twisted & Tangled!

Ops I replied to myself in error.....
    Tom:
I performed the steps indicated but this morning when I clicked the mouse and hit the space key and clicked the track pad again as before nothing happens.
I hold the power button for a few seconds and the screen fills as if the computer was normally awakened but it is locked up.
Then I have to shut it down with the power button  and then power it up as a reboot.
Not good...SMC reset didn't work....Throughout the day yesterday I put the computer to sleep and woke it up normally.  It seems to be a overnight problem.
Am I going to have to shut it down everynight?
