Sequence question drop-down list gets hung up on punctuation

I'm making a sequence question. In drag-and-drop mode, it
works fine. But in the drop-down list mode, it breaks. In other
words, even if it is displaying correctly, it is "wrong" when the
enduser tries to sequence the choices.
I assume that this is because one of my items has punctuation
in it.
It's a person's name, so it looks like this:
Lastname, FirstInitial.
Or it could be even two people:
Lastname, FirstInitial. & Lastname, FirstInitial.
Is there a way to escape the commas and periods? (I'm willing
to give up on ampersand!) Use ASCII, escape ActionScript or
JavaScript? I'm not likely to solve the problem by experimenting,
so I'm wondering if someone else has figured this out. THANKS.
(I tried searching the forum, but searching does not seem to
be working for me)

I can't help you with this myself as I've not done it but there are quite a few tutorials kicking around the net.

  • C5.5 Issue with color/colour in matching question drop down list

    Hi is there a way to change the colour of the letters that appear in the drop down lists for a matching question in 5.5?
    I'm using white text on a grey background for my quiz slides, which is nice and easy to read, but then in the preview the letters in the drop down appear as white text on a white background. I can't see a way to change the font in the drop down back to black (as it is on my editing view), without also changing the colour of the answer text.
    Is there a way to change this?
    I've just tried covering the lists over with a chunk of background image - so that the user doesn't even know they're there, but the quiz slide has ordered the image behind the lists.
    Failing there being a way to change the colour, is there a way to have a matching slide without a drop down list at all?
    Thanks for reading
    Lynn

    Hi Shekhar
    Thanks for the extra info - I'd tried changing the properties and using the object style manager before, but hadn't considered using them together.
    This time, I followed your advice and:
    I set the colour for 'Matching entries' to black in the object style manager
    Then went into each column 1 entry and set the text to white
    The result was white text in the column, with black in the list. Much better than before!
    However, when I changed the text in column 2 to white, the list entries became white as well.
    After a lot of experimentation, I've discovered that if you just select the text object and change the colour, you change all the text including the lettering and numbering of the answer - this changes the list colour.
    If you change the text in the answer by highlighting it, this doesn't affect the lettering/numbering, however it still changes the drop down
    To leave the drop down the right colour you need to change the answer colour by highlighting first, but, and the order is vital, you need to insert a space between the letter/number and the answer text first.
    So, the end result I have is that the column 1 text is the right colour, the column 2 text is the right colour and the text in the drop down is the right colour. Unfortunately the lettering for the column 2 answers has to stay the same  as the letters in the drop down list, so they don't show up brilliantly (black on a dark grey background), but it's a massive improvement on the invisible list I had before!
    Thanks again!

  • Struts Drop-Down List

    Could someone let me know where I could have the code for my Drop Down List....I know this shud be in action class...but, i am little confused when this get invoked and how it the drop-down list gets populated before callling the action class in the JSP page....
    Thanks in advance for any help in this....

    see the following post for the sample code I have posted.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=768195&tstart=0
    what you need to is call the Action class first and put the ArrayList of LabelValueBeans in either session or request scope as shown in the code and forward to JSP ( copy code for JSP from my post in the above link)
    does it answer your question ?

  • How to get Date value from database and display them in a drop down list?

    Hello.
    In my Customers table, I have a column with Date data type. I want to create a form in JSP, where visitors can filter Customers list by year and month.
    All I know is this piece of SQL that is convert the date to the dd-mm-yyyy format:
    SELECT TO_CHAR(reg_date,'dd-mm-yyyy') from CustomersAny ideas of how this filtering possible? In my effort not to sound like a newbie wanting to be spoonfed, you can provide me link to external notes and resources, I'll really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Rightbrainer.

    Hi
    What part is your biggest problem?? I am not experienced in getting data out of a database, but the way to get a variable amount of data to show in a drop down menu, i have just messed around with for some time and heres how i solved it... In my app, what i needed was, a initial empty drop down list, and then using input from a text-field, users could add elements to a Vector that was passed to a JComboBox. Heres how.
    package jcombobox;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Main extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
        private Vector<SomeClass> list = new Vector<SomeClass>();
        private JComboBox dropDownList = new JComboBox(list);
        private JButton addButton = new JButton("add");
        private JButton remove = new JButton("remove");
        private JTextField input = new JTextField(10);
        private JPanel buttons = new JPanel();
        public Main() {
            addButton.addActionListener(this);
            remove.addActionListener(this);
            input.addActionListener(this);
            buttons.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
            buttons.add(addButton);
            buttons.add(remove);
            add(dropDownList, "North");
            add(input, "Center");
            add(buttons, "South");
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            if (e.getSource() == addButton) {
                list.addElement(new SomeClass(input.getText()));
                input.setText("");
            } else if (e.getSource() == remove) {
                int selected = dropDownList.getSelectedIndex();
                dropDownList.removeItemAt(selected);
        public void init(String[] args) {
            setSize(400,300);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
            getContentPane().add(new Main());
    }And that "SomeClass" is show here
    package jcombobox;
    public class SomeClass {
        private String text;
        public SomeClass(String input) {
            text = input;
        public String toString() {
            return text;
    }One of the things i struggled a lot with was to get the dropdown menu to show some usefull result. If the list just contains class references it will show the memory code that points to that class. Thats where the toString cones in handy. But it took me some time to figure that one out, a laugh here is welcome as it should have been obvious :-)
    When the app is as simple as this one, using a <String> vector would have been easier, but this is just to demonstrate how to place classes in a vector and get some usefull info out of it, hope this answered some of your question :-)
    The layout might have been easier to write, than using the toppanel created by the JApplet and then the two additional JPanels, but it was just a small app brewed together in 15 minutes. Please comments on my faults, so that i can learn of it.
    If you need any of the code specified more, please let me know. Ill be glad to,

  • How can I get a drop-down list selection also be selected in another field with the same list but a different name?

    I have a street address and a billing address. A question is posed with a checkbox — "Is the billing address the same as the street address?" If Yes is checked, the street address automatically fills the billing fields. If No is checked, the user must fill in new information. In both the street address and billing addres, the State field is a drop-down list. How can I get the drop-down list selection in the street address State also be selected in drop-down list for the billing address State?

    Has anyone done this?

  • Drop-down list database question

    Hey there. So this is what I want to do. I want a drop-down list that would have hundreds of possible choices. The user could pick one and several text fields throughout the document would populate accordingly. I'm assuming there would have to be a database of some sort where all the data would live, and a way to tell live cycle that all of certain fields are connected and need to change depending on that first drop down. I hope that makes sense.
    While that would work, the even better idea would be some kind of a menu within the form for picking the initial item. I understand that would probably be more complicated, but a way for the user to navigate through several categories to find the proper item would be absolutely great.
    I don't expect anyone to do this for me... I'm just having trouble finding a responsibly simple walk-though so that I can figure it out myself. So if anyone has a sample form that does this, or has an idea of the best kind of database to use, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance!!

    OK to narrow this question down a little more, since I posted this, I was able to create a simple access db and create a drop-down list that would have the specified column drop down and I could pick it. Now I just need to figure out how to make a separate text box display the information from the corresponding column of what was picked from the drop down. I think once I can get that done, building the rest of the database and sorting out the fields needed should not be too hard. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

  • Get/Set values from a drop down list

    I am trying to modify the http://www.netbeans.org/kb/60/web/web-jpa-part2.html so that instead of entering the data from a text field (in update & add) the values come from a drop down list from a table. I have drop down lists that are populated bothe from the DB and hard coding. When I run, I am able to see the options on the DDs. But none of the CRUD work. I think this is because my set and get for the drop down is wrong. Then again, I also have a few text fields from the original example which also don't seem to work. Here is a piece of my addButton():
            RowKey[] selectedRowKeys = getTableRowGroup1().getSelectedRowKeys();
            PaymentDetails[] pv = getSessionBean1().getPaymentVoucher();
            int rowId = Integer.parseInt(selectedRowKeys[0].getRowId());
            PaymentDetails upPV = pv[rowId];
            bankCodeDD.getSelected();
            statusDD.getSelected(); // hard coded value
          upPV.setPrepBy((String) prepByField.getText());
          PaymentDetailsController pvController = new PaymentDetailsController();
            pvController.addPaymentDetails(upPV);
            addRequest = false;
            return null;How do I set and get the values from the drop down so than it passed to my bean? When I choose a row to be updated, make changes and click Update, I get this message on my Tomcat:
    com.sun.webui.jsf.component.DropDown::The current value of component form1:deptCodeDD does not match any of the selections.
    Did you forget to reset the value after changing the options?Can someone please point me to a place which shows how I can add a default value from my DD? I tried to follow http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/dropdowncomp.html, but unable to complete because I get an error for Options api. The auto-fix imported import org.apache.jasper.Options; But the package given in the tutorial is com.sun.webui.jsf.model.Option. My Java version is 1.6.0_07.
    private Options listOptions[];
    ...//getter setter goes here
    listOptions = new Option[noofDBRows + 1];Many Thanks!

    I don't guess what I may add.
    The contents of the table named lookup appear on the screenshot.
    cell A1 contains the string One-Piece, cell B1 contains the 'associated' value 160.
    cell A2 contains the string Two-Piece, cell B2 contains the 'associated' value 130.
    cell A3 contains the string Three-Quarter, cell B3 contains the 'associated' value 150.
    Now table Main
    In column B the cells contain a pop_up menu with four items like the ones described by Jerrold.
    In column C of the cells contain the formula :
    =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(B,Tableau 2 :: A:B,2,FALSE),"")
    I enhanced it since yesterdays because I forgot to treat the case when cell is blank in column B.
    I apologize but as I'm using my machine in French, the screenshot display the French formulas.
    I repeat that you may find useful infos in the PDFs files which we may download from the menus:
    Help > Numbers User Guide
    Help > iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide
    As you are in Stoke-on-Trent maybe your system is set to use the comma as decimal separator.
    If it's that, you must replace the comma by semi-colons in the formulas (you may see them in my screenshot).

  • Trying to get Pivot table drop down list to affect bar chart below it

    Hi,
    In BI Answers I have a pivot table and a bar chart below it. At run time, I can choose a value from the
    drop down list for the pivot table, but the bar chart below it doesn't react to the new value chosen
    from the pivot table.
    Does anyone know a way to get the bar chart to receive new values, permeating down from a table view
    pivot table above it on the same report (apart from using prompted filters for the whole report).
    Many thanks,
    Jake

    you may want to try this...
    in you bar chart criteria, set prompted filters of all the dimension fields u want from the pivot table.
    in the pivot table, set action links on these dimension columns and loop it back to the current dashboard page.
    now, when u click on a value on the pivot table, the dim values of this will be passed as a parameter to the the bar chart filter set and your bar chart will change accordingly...

  • How to get the selected value/key of a drop down list box in webdynpro Java

    Dear SDN Members,
    I have added some static data into a drop down list box by key UI element using the procedure specified in value help tutorial.
    Now i want to display the value selected in a dropdown list box on view whenever i select an item in a dropdown list box.
    Can any one put here the code part relating to this.
    Your help will be awarded.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Sireesha.B

    Hi Sireesha,
        You want to display value based on the key selected in dropdown list. If you want to do like that
    1) Create a context attribute for ex: key_value
    2)In the properties of the attribute select the calculated as true.
    3)It will create getter and setter methods for your attribute.
    4)Go to implementation add the following code in getter method of your attribute
    String attributeName = IPrivateCreate.IContextElement.KEY;
    //KEY is your dropdown key attribute not the value attribute.
    IWDAttributeInfo attributeInfo = element.node().getNodeInfo().getAttribute(attributeName);
    ISimpleTypeModifiable simpleType = attributeInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
    IModifiableSimpleValueSet valueset = simpleType.getSVServices().getModifiableSimpleValueSet();
    Object key = element.getAttributeAsText(attributeName);
    return valueset.getText(key);

  • Using getElementById() to get values from drop down list

    Hi, I am using Netbeans to write this program. I have this .java page that gets the url of the HtmlPage from the .properties page. And when this page is opened in the browser, there are drop down lists that have values I want to get from the user when he/she has selected, and save it to a database. I'm actually using mozilla firefox to open this page, and using firebug to inspect the drop down list element.
    I know getElementById is a javascript code, however, my friend told me to use it in the .java page. This is how part of my code looks like. What I'm not sure is how to implement getElementById() and where.
    HtmlPage pageMain =EBPage;
    WebRequest postRequestSettings = new WebRequest(
    new URL(getProperties("trustAdmin")), HttpMethod.POST);
    *// Set the request parameters*
    postRequestSettings.setRequestParameters(new ArrayList());
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("component", "edit"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("formids", "unixTime,instance,time,description,message"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("page", "Status"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("service", "direct"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("session", "T"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("submitmode", "submit"));
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("submitname", ""));
    *// Insert instance of message here*
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("instance", instance));
    *// Insert content of message here*
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("message", message));
    *// Insert description of message here*
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("description", description));
    *// Insert time of message here*
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("time", time));
    *// Convert time to unix seconds*
    postRequestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("unixTime", String.valueOf(System.currentTimeMillis() / 1000)));
    HtmlPage newPage1 = pageMain.getWebClient().getPage(postRequestSettings);
    WebRequest requestSettings = new WebRequest(
    new URL("http://www.google.com"), HttpMethod.GET);
    requestSettings.setRequestParameters(new ArrayList());
    requestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("page", "Preview"));
    requestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("service", "page"));
    newPage1 = newPage1.getWebClient().getPage(requestSettings);
    And I'm told to insert page.getElementById() in the place shown below:
    HtmlPage page = null;
    page.getElementById()_
    *try {*
    *// Login proxy*
    page = (HtmlPage) jsonBrowser.getPage(getProperties("jsonBrowser"));
    String proxyUrl = page.getForms().get(0).getAttribute("action");
    System.out.println("Proxy Url" + proxyUrl);
    WebRequest requestSettings = new WebRequest(
    new URL(proxyUrl), HttpMethod.POST);
    requestSettings.setRequestParameters(new ArrayList());
    requestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("PROXY_SG_PASSWORD", password));
    requestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("PROXY_SG_PRIVATE_CHALLENGE_STATE", ""));
    requestSettings.getRequestParameters().add(new NameValuePair("PROXY_SG_REQUEST_ID", ""));

  • Web UI - Value not getting selected from drop down list  .

    Hi  All ,
        I am facing a problem in one of the fields which is enhanced with a drop down functionality .
      I have created the GET_V_** method and also the GET_P_**  method for the same .And finally I am able to see the values in the drop down list . But the problem is , when I am trying to select a value from the drop down no values are selected .
    Can anyone plese help me in this as What has to be  done .
    I have taken references from few guides but I am not getting any clear idea of what has to be done .
    Regards,
    Ranjita

    Hi Ranjita,
                     To trigger a round trip, you must have given the event name in GET_P method.
    Same event handler would trigger.
      Please put a break point in Event Handler in IMPL class, and in SET_attr method of the attribute in CN class and see if value is getting set properly or not. Final value that would be displayed on UI would be there in GET_attr method of CN class.
      I hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Rohit

  • How do I get my drop down lists in alphabetical order?

    Got a new computer and installed Firefox 3.6.10. I moved over my bookmarks, etc. from the old computer. However, all of my drop-down lists are not in alphabetical order any more. And if I use one of the entries, it will sometimes move to a different order than it had been when I clicked on it. How do I get them back in alphabetical order?

    The entries for form field are in current Firefox version is the order that you add them and not ordered alphabetically.<br />
    Maybe an extension like Autofill Forms can sort them.
    I'm not using it, so you need to check that yourself.

  • How do I get the location bar drop-down list to show the most recently visited page at the top? I have no idea how it's deciding what to display.

    In IE when you show the drop-down list from the location bar, it show you all of your most recently visited pages in descending order with the most recent at the top. Firefox is showing me a list that I have no idea where it's getting the pages from or how it's ordering them. It doesn't update the pages or the order when I go to a new page. I have recently switched from IE to Firefox and cannot figure out how to get Firefox to do this; very annoying.

    That drop down list doesn't show recently visited pages, but shows list list of most visited sites sorted by what the Mozilla devs call frecency (frequency and recency) and is based on bonus points. It is not possible to have much influence on what shows on that list.
    If you want a list of recently visited sites then you can use a smart bookmark e.g. on the Bookmarks Toolbar with the location set to this smart folder.<br />
    Name: <b>Recently Visited</b><br />
    Location: <b>place:queryType=0&sort=4&maxResults=30</b><br />
    You need to close and restart Firefox to make that folder work as intended.
