Serial cable present?

Hi all
Is there a VI I can use in Labview (5) to interrogate the serial port and
determine if a CTS present. I need to do this to determine whether or not
there is a serial cable connecting the PC to an instrument (which
generates the CTS).
I've tried a serial write but if there is no cable the VI either stalls
(if hardware handshaking is enabled since there is no CTS) or just runs
without generating an error if there is no handshaking.
The other approach would be to stop the VI from running if the write VI
stalls but I haven't figured out how to do that either.
Reading the NI knowledge base I think I need to access my serial port
register using the inport/outport functions, but I've not tried this
before so any advice
would be gratefully received!
Many thanks in advance.

Try looking at the VISA drivers, I believe you can
check the state of some of the control lines
I believe that CTS is one of them.

  • I need to use agilent34970A with serial cable;but i'm not able to build a routine.

Hi, i'm learning labview and i'm not able to build a routine to communicate with my Agilent34970A with serial cable only and to use the data. Anyone can help me? thanks. lucky

Are you using the driver from the LabVIEW Instrument Driver CD or that you downloaded from here? If you are, what problems are you having? Are there error codes generated and what are they? Have you verified that the serial cable is correct and the the comm parameters (baud rate, stop bits, etc.) are the same in the program and the instrument?

serial cable working well but when i connected serial cable to my circuit board it can not take data from my my microcontroller in which i burn a program and that program should display on the lab view example basics serial read and write but it is not display the program on lab view i also replace microcontroller, max 232 ic bubber ic 74ls244 but it is no  use please help me and thanks alot  in advance.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused as to what you're saying now. You had said that it worked with HyperTerminal. Now you seem to be saying it doesn't. Let's keep LabVIEW out of this for the moment. Can you communicate with your board with HyperTerminal? That means you actually have the cable connected to your board and you're talking to it via HyperTerminal.

  • Serial-to-serial cable. Does it exist?

I would like t interconnect two cisco routers for testing purposes, using their serial ports, but still can not find serial-to-serial cable (60-pins each side).
Should i make such cable by myself? And where can i get pinout for the cable like this?
    Thanks!

    HI Seri,
You can connect 2 routers via back to back connection using srial ports. Need to have DTE to DCE connection.

I think that the problem is the installation , you have to copy to sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/ProlificUsbSerial.kext or in my case  I used this as reference, now it is working....

  • How i can connect the pci nican card with stoeber posidyn sds 4021 via serial cable

i'm trying to communicate the stoeber posisyn sds 4021 servo inverter and the pci ni-can card via serial cable. the problem is that 1 RxD and 2 TxD pins dont have any connection available on the can card.
it is important to connect these pins somewhere or can_l and can_h do all the job?
what about the v- terminal, it is possible to connect it in grnd and leave v+ with 8v?

In this situation it may be necessary to contact the manufacturer of this device. It is strongly recommended to use both CAN_H and CAN_L for CAN communication. The V- pin is used as reference ground. The V+ is simply for bus power.

  • Color Stylewriter 200 (9 pin serial cable)

Is it possible to convert a Color Stylewriter 200 (9 pin serial cable) so that it can work with Windows XP?

    Hello,
The color style writer 2200 was produced in collaboration with apple and canon. If you search in google images, type bjc80 and you'll see it's the same design and the same ink cartridge.
So may be try to use bjc80 driver for color style writer 2200 on windows xp but may be on pc this printer was used with parallel port but a thing I'm sure there was an irda (infrared) port.
Other thing, try to user EPson LQ print driver sometimes it works.
I hope it will help you

  • Telepresence C40 OSD Off - Cant access anything - DO Not have proper Serial cable - Do not know password

We decided to put an unused C40 back into use and we accidentally turned off OSD when configuring it. Now we cant see anything and get manage to get OSD back. We know the ip address but have been unable to guess the admin password so we can't login using the web interface. Also, I do not even have a serial cable that will fit this device so that is not an option. How do I turn back on OSD with the remote? Any help is greatly appreciated

Depending on what software version you've got installed on the C40, you may be able to (pre TC7) log on as "root" rather than "admin" via ssh - from there you can remove the /mnt/base/active/config.db which will effectively factory default it when you reboot.
PS - the serial is a standard 9-pin serial connection, so finding a cable shouldn't be that difficult. The pinout can be found in the C40 Physical Interface Guide.

  • V100 goes to ok when serial cable disconnected

    Hi,
I have 2 V100's at work that I have connected to a one of our Dell servers. The V100's are connected via serial cables to com1 and com2 on the Dell. I have them constantly connected because I can get into the dell via Terminal Services if there are any problems (I am the only UNIX admin here and trying to walk someone through booting up or fixing a UNIX box is too much when I can just do it myself). So, here is m problem. Last night one of the windows admins reset the dell server and both of my V100's dropped to ok>. I assume they noticed a change in the serial connection and thought I wanted to do maintenance. I know it is easy enough to just go into each via hyperterminal and type go but I would like to stop this all together. Does anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks

In /etc/default/kbd, uncomment the following line:
    #KEYBOARD_ABORT=alternate
This will hang BREAK sequence to "<RETURN>~^B" - Actually I'm pretty sure the <RETURN> isn't required but the docs say its part of the sequence. This will prevent your Sun's from going to the OK prompt when the Dell's drop.

  • What is the purpose in criss-crossing serial cables....

....(Example: se 2/0 to se 3/0 when configuring EIGRP?) Please examine attachment. Thanks, joe.

    Dear Jon,
Thanks. Ya know I'm new to Cisco, but just the same, some things are just plain common sense. Sometimes I am a little slow, LOL. If I had looked more carefully at the configuration, I would have seen that the serial cables were criss-crossed to allow for ALL THREE routers to be hooked up and functional. Once again, thanks. joe.

  • Replacement serial cable needed for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500

    Hello,
I have a question. I lost the serial printer cable for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500, but if I order a replacement serial printer cable from we love macs, will the cable still work just as good as the original apple cable? I didn't want to have troubles with printing and data errors with the replacement cable. Or should I try to get as close to original one as I can?
Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

  • How to detect the serial cable been unplugged

    Hi all,
I wrote a small application using the javax.comm api to talk to an external device. I would like to know how to detect if the cable is unplugged. Right now, if I run the application with cable not connected, if i start communicate with the device, the program will hang.
The program works fine with connection is there.
    Please help me.

there are ways that do what he wants to do (though not what he says he wants to do), but they need to be implemented in hardware.
You could monitor the voltage on some of the pins on the serial connection for example, which tells you whether there's a signal on the line.
That of course would not detect whether the cable is there, as it has preconditions. It detects whether there's a signal on the cable, which requires that the systems on both ends of the cable are powered up and that the cable itself is not faulty.

  • Wireless replacement for a long USB/Serial cable?

    Hi,
This is not a Labview related question, but I am looking for some input.
I need to have a long cable between the instrument and the PC (laptop is not an option), and I am looking for a wireless solution like this http://www.aircable.net/products/serial5x.php .
Does anyone have any experience with this. I am looking for something similar from a vendor that has good support and has about 300ft of range.
    Thanks.

I've used a wireless radio modem before.  I can't find a link to the one I have though.  I don't know if it could handle 300 ft.
It was kind of like this one.  http://www.bb-elec.com/Products/Wireless-Cellular/Radio-Modems/Industrial-Grade-Radio-Modems.aspx
Also look at this which will connect it to a Wi-Fi link.
    http://www.bb-elec.com/Products/Wireless-Cellular/Wi-Fi-Serial-Servers/Serial-to-Ethernet-Converter....
The advantage with this is you would only need on on the device end if  your laptop has wireless already.  But again, I don't know about range.
