Serial Number History

Hi,
I need to get the serial number history for a material / serial number, I have found function module SERIAL_HISTORY which is exactly what I am looking for, but the function module doesnt have any exporting parameters or tables, and instead calls report RISERNR1. Is there any similar function module that I can use to return this data?

Thanks, the problem is that SERIAL_HISTORY calls RISERNR1 directly which is displaying the history within in the GUI. I want to call this function module from another function module which will be called via RFC from CRM, so I need it to skip the following code.
SUBMIT RISERNR1 AND RETURN
WITH MATNR = MATERIAL
WITH SERNR = SERIAL.
I have got it working by copying the function to my own ZSERIAL_HISTORY, but I wanted to know if there was a more standard way to achieve this.

IE03 - Serial number history and business documents linkage after archive

SAP has provided serial number history feature within Equipment master display IE03. History works fine as long as data are in live system. However when it becomes real history - meaning once order or notification linked to material + serial number is archived history is not visible. Archival I am referring to PM_ORDER, QM_CONTROL, MM_MATBEL etc and not PM_OBJLIST (which is meant for archiving serial number history)
Has anyone encounter this issue with ECC 6.0? Any solution exist? If custom what are the different approches?

Hi Jay,
When archiving Service Orders (archiving object PM_ORDER), there is an option in the write variant called "Generate historical orders". If you select this option, then the history should be visible even though you have archived the Service Order. I pressume that you should have the same option for the write variants of the other archiving objects that you mentioned.

Serial Number History is wiped off after GR from Rework PO is done

We have an issue where Serial number history gets wiped off.let me explain with an example.
Here say a serialized part is received from vendor thru 101 movement on 01/01/2009 and later it some internal goods movemets happened on this serial number like moving from QI ti unrestricted, goods issue to production order, later a problem is found on this part and it is sent to vendor thru 541 movement type for subcontracting rework.
Here there is a bug in Standard SAP program which will throw error for the serial number status while trying to recieve that part thru 101 movement agaisnt a rework PO. so we manualy change the serial number status to allow the 101 movement say on 04/01/2009. when we do 101movemtn all the hostory before this 101 movemnt is wiped off. that means history shows as if this serial number is created on 04/01/2009 when this is recieved thru 101 movement.
This doesnt happen on all serial numbers though we do change the serial number status manualy to recieve the parts from subcon vendor.
can anybody help if you have come accross simiralr issue

Hi Bhaskaran,
This problem can be avoided by maintaining a User Status Profile.
Apart form System Status we can maintain User Status profile for business functons.
Refer T.CODE - BS02.
Maintain a user status profile for the serial number profile, thro equipment category.
For every movement of material statuskeeps on changing.
like for example
1.Initial GR to UR Stock: "Received"
2.Quality inspected "QC OK"
3.Issued to Prod Order "Issued"
4.Sent for rework "Rework Required"
5.Gr after Rework "Received After Rework"
You need not change status manually, it can be configured in status profile accordingly. If you do this you can get rid of this issue.

Upgrade problems 8.8 serial number history

hi,
I have upgraded a database from 2005A sp01 pl56 to 8.8 PL:07.
No errors were reported during update but when I check the serialnumber transactions are missing (SRI1 in 2005). ITL1 is empty. How can I Upgrade and keep this?

It could be related to an issue to be fixed in the 8.8 PL09. Please try to use the latest patch (released 2 days ago).

Hello Madhukar ,
Unfortunately , this information is not available in the SAP system. Only the current stock information of a serial number is stored in thet EQBS table. Although there is a serial number history , (where you can see the assignment of a serial number to a material document and thus implicitly gather stock information) , no report exists for this matter.
I am sorry that I do not have a better aswer for you at this time but this fucntionality does not exist on the standard SAP system. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if I have misunderstood your issue. Thank you.

Remove serial number profile

I would like to remove a serial number profile in the material master for a material that does is no longer handled as serialized.
During trying to remove the serial number profile in the respecitve material a system-error message occurs telling "Serial numbers already assigned to this material" and it refers to report RISERNR9.
Could you please tell me the required steps (e.g. remove stock? / change each serial number status?) that are required to realize this? Is there a OSS note available that descripes the approach?

Please execute the serial number profile removal process and see. Material serial number removal procedure as follows.
Using T-Code MM02-change material code to the respective plant(6000),storage location,sales org and then give input data to the material view screen basic data1, basic data2...... In the view Plant data / Stor.2 input screen General plant parameters options Serial no.profile - '0001', SerLevel - '1' data to be removed during change/edit of the material. After that doing MIGO for the material serial number should not asked and also not displayed. set the deletion flag in IQ02, archive the serial number history using archiving object PM_OBJLIST, archive the serial number using archiving object PM_EQUI. Please execute these steps and check. Hope it works. Thanking you.

I am able to generate the serial number numerically material wise using IQ01 t code. But my client requirement is alphanumeric serial numbers. Is it possible in standard SAP. Serial numbers can be auto generated or created manually; the length of single number is limited to 18
characters. SAP supports both numeric and alphanumeric serial numbers. Serial number master record
can be created directly prior to business transaction, this would appropriate to have serial numbers already
in system so these can be assigned during business process. Serial numbers can be created individually
(IQ01) or several at the time (IQ04), depending on transaction chosen.
Serial number masters contents following information
->Status information: System status of gives idea about current status and availability of serial
number. User status also used for precise control over serial number movement.
-> Stock information: This shows the plant and storage location of material, also the stock type of
material like unrestricted, quality or blocked stock.
-> Serial number history: The history tells about the past business process with serial number.
Serial numbers are also categorized on broader level like Machine, Customer equipment etc. These categories mainly serve the reporting purpose.
Maintain all the mandatory information and the issue should be solved

Urgent!!! Serial Number Status AVLB EDEL

Hi PP Guru,
I need your help in resolving the issue.
We have one material with Serial Number status 'AVLB EDEL' and I am aware that the system sets this status to Serial Number when assigned in deliveries and not yet PGI'd.
I cant find from where this status came from since I searched from all the tables and could not determine its linkage with any deliveries.I searched tables like SER01, OBJK, SERI and also looked into the materials documents but could not find the serial number anywhere.
The issue came to the notice when we were trying to do delivery with the same serial number and the system was not allowing us to do so.
Please advise when this could happen when the serial Number status is AVLB EDEL though not assigned in deliveries.
Appreciate your response. Its pretty urgent.

I looked into the program mentioned by jeevan and I earlier looked into Serial Number history but there is no history available. Then also I can see the material with AVLB EDEL Status.
This is defeintly a strange issue but want to know the root cause for the same.
I tried to replicate the same in my sandbox but not getting replicate.

IO231: Stock data of serial number &1 not suitable for movement

Hi experts,
I have unique problem with serialized material posting.We are having serialized managed materials which are posted to quality inspection stock.The user was able to post partial quantity to unrestricted after usage decision but when tried to post remainig quantity it is giving error 'IO231: Stock data of serial number &1 not suitable for movement".I checked serial number history in iq02 & it shows that same serial numbers were used for some order in the past which is already delivered.I am not able to understand how it allowed to post same serial numbers again for the same material and if it is normal why it is giving above error when we try to post remaining quantity?
I tried by changing serial profile in the material master with all optional fields and without stock check and equipment and try to post but its not working.
I want to somehow post material to unrestricted use from quality inspection with or without serial numbers.
I am working on 4.7 system

Hi,
You can have a link between serial number, production order, planned order and material by linking SER05 and AFPO table. From SER05, take production order number (PPAUFNR) value and goes to AFPO. You can get planned order number (PLNUM) and material number (MATNR) for that order.
Please note that the planned order data will be no longer available in planned order table (PLAF) as it is already converted to production order.

Serial number history you can execute through the functional module
SERIAL_HISTORY - input the material code and the serial number and execute
For status use this - BAPI_EQUI_GETSTATUS, Input the equipment number for the corresponding serial number,
equipment number for the corresponding serial number you can get it from EQUI Table by passing the serial number in the SERNR field and fetch the EQUNR field and MATNR field

Then it gives me options under drop down menu but Master Collection CS6 is the only one not appearing in a drop down menu.

Your CS6 must have been purchased as an upgrade. What it is asking you to select/provide is the name/serial number of the previous version you purchased that qualifies you to install and activate the CS6 upgrade version... this would be likely be one of CS3 thru CS5.5.

Accessing history of an e-bay iBook using the serial number.

i'm looking at an iBook G3 (M6497) on e-bay at the moment and I got the seller to send me the serial number so that I could take a wee peek at the history of the machine. The seller kindly sent me the serial number, but how / where do I enter this number to access data on the history of this machine? I'm kinda new to MacWorld, so any help or advice at all would be very much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The only thing you can really tell by the serial number is when the warranty expired (if that helps). This will give you the original purchase date and whether or not AppleCare was purchased on it.
