Serious design Flaw on Zen Micro -now headphone ja

Ok...now im new in the old headphone jack problem..im sending it for replacement. Sad....i hope the new one breaks before the warranty ends, so i can at least enjoy the Zen for one year...then ill switch to Ipod.
This little thing sounds great, but creative must get new engineers....this flaw happens in almost every zen!....

I moved this to it's own thread as it wasn't related to the one you posted in (at all).

  • ZEN MICRO: MY HEADPHONE JACK IS BROK

    My headphone jack is broken. Does anyone know how to fix it's?When I stick my headphones into the jack, I can still hear sound, but it depends on how I'm holding my mp3 player. If i hold it in a certain position, only one headphone might work or one might be louder than the other one. I don't know what's wrong and this problem is really bugging me. Somebody HELPP!

    It's faulty and must be replaced by Creative. Is your warranty still in effect? How long have you own your Micro? If you li've in the U.S, the first 90 days of your warranty will cover Parts & Labor, after 90 days you will have 9 months left of Parts only. Labor will cost you around $25 I think. And you have to pay for shipping and handling to Creative.
    Or you can fix it yourself if you know you are going to void the warranty and know how to use a soldering iron or know someone that knows how to fix electronics. Creative isn't going to fix that headphone jack, they will only replace it. That doesn't mean you won't get a headphone jack problem again.
    Not sure if this is a common problem throughout Zen Micros.
    I own my Micro for almost a year now, no serious problems yet. I did have a small incident with the sound but hopefully it was just an accident and I didn't push my headphones all the way in.
    Causes of the headphone jack could be Creative's fault in manufacturing it, normal wear and tear, forcefully plugging in/out the headphones, causing pressure to the headphone jack when your headphones are plugged in, and/or wrapping the headphones around the player.

  • Zen Micro w/ Headphone Jack Problem: RMA or n

    Hi everyone,
    I have a silver Zen Micro, and am currently experiencing this very annoying headphone jack problem where sound gets distorted depending on how I move the headphone jack. Additionally, my player turns on by itself occasionally when it's in my pocket-- I'm not really sure what kind of problem that is, but it's very fraustrating nonetheless.
    I bought my player in late November, and it's already past the three month full warranty period, so I've been told that if I send it back for RMA, I will need to pay a $40 admininistrati've fee. Thing is, I'm a student in college, and don't have the money to pay for both shipping and repairs. And I don't really want to open my player up and risk damaging it either.
    What do you think is the best course of action? Should I just send it back and pay $40? How reliable is the RMA process-- and what would happen if the same problem occurs again? Pay for shipping & repairs another time?!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Yes I totally agree with you man the problem is VERY annoying. This is my second Micro I got from Creative and it is having the same problem as the original one I bought and had to send in for 'repairs'... I'm not sure if I am still under the warranty but i dont want to go through the whole annoying process of doing the RMA stuff and possibly paying for the repairs. I just might do it myself... But the Mini is looking very nice right now.... :smileyvery-happy: Just joking.

  • I've installed firmware for my zen micro, now i can't use my creative software! Please he

    I wanted to download some music from napster and to play it on my player it told me I needed a firmware upgrade. I knew from buying my player that I probably would need to upgrade so I did. Once I installed the upgrade, and plugged my zen micro in and now it will only let me use windows media player? to transfer my music to my player. I hate this software as it doesn't work brilliantly, I was really happy with the creative software, but now when I plug in my micro and open the creative software it won't recognise it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software but its made no difference. Also, a box keeps coming up with something called MTP what is this? Can anyone help me with this problem? I would really appreciate it!

    MTP is microsoft's media transfer protocol. Essentially, your micro can now connect to WinXP SP2 computers with WMP0 without loading Creative drivers.
    The new firmware you installed allows you to drag and drop files to your micro using windows explorer. In order to use any of Creative's software, you'll need to download and install updated versions from their website.

  • Zen Micro - Loose Headphone Connect

    I bought a Zen Micro last december and I love it.
    Unfortunately it has recently developed a problem. It seems that there is a problem with the headphone socket as I keep losing sound volume/stereo quality etc as if the headphones are not seated correctly in the socket. On investigation, if I move the headphone socket only very slightly (as happens in normal use) I lose the sound quality. A quick waggle of the cable and the sound usually restores only to go again later. As you can imaging this is extremely annoying.
    To me this is a hardware problem with the socket itself and will only be rectified by me sending the player back under warranty to be fixed.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem and found any other solution other than sending the player back under warranty?

    Yep, quite a few people have had this (just type "headphone socket" into search to see).
    Depending on where you are (you don't give any location information in your profile) you will either be under the parts only (e.g. USA) or full warranty (e.g. in Europe). Contact Creative Support to return your player for a replacement.

  • ZEN MICRO "NOW PLAYING&qu

    So after updating my firmware, everything works just like it used to on my ZEN micro EXCEPT my now playing window. The display just says "Select music to PLAY from the Music Library" without displaying the album, artist, or song title. Is there anyway to get this back? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    dancerdawn,
    This may sound silly but have you gone into the Music Library and add those audio tracks you wanted to playback to the Now Playing section?
    Another thing, if you update the player firmware from version .xx.xx to 2.xx.xx, the player will be formatted so you need to re-transfer your audio files to the player.

  • I Need Serious Help With My ZEN MICRO! Help With MediaSource!! Don't Know What I'm Doing

    Hey.. I just bought my zen micro... i love the player itself...but coming from itunes, which is amazingly easy and simple to use, the creative mediasource is sooo hard for me to get the hang of! First, i had to figure out how to get my songs from itunes (aac) to mediasource (wma). not easy... now, i don't understand how to edit my songs, playlists, etc... i can't do anything!! if there's someone who wouldn't mind helping me out..please reply or write and let me know.... thanks! jason. [email protected]

    >> First, i had to figure out how to get my songs from itunes (aac) to mediasource (wma). not easy...
    This is not MediaSource's issue.
    >> i don't understand how to edit my songs, playlists, etc...
    The first task you need to do is to add all your songs into MediaSource's PC Music Library. After that, it is not difficult to figure out how to use MediaSource. Editing track properties and creating playlist is very simple. To transfer tracks to your devices, you need to click a button at the bottom right of MediaSource to open up another panel to facilitate the transfer.

  • Zen Micro Now Playing / Playlist iss

    Hey...
    I Have the Zen Micro, but when I'm creating my playlists it's very frustrating that the when you select a song then the "Play" item is listed before the "Add to selected" it should be the other way around since I quite often hit the "Play" button and the playlist is overwritten - very annoying!
    So are there a way to customize which items are listed first when you select a song?

    Unfortunately no way to customise it.

  • Serious design flaw in iWeb needs fixing fast

    I have been designing websites with various types of software in the past. Always a wysiwyg environment has been amongst my favourites as it shows exactly what you are doing, how it looks and what it's going to be like for the viewer.
    Now iWeb does a fairjob at that but it has one MAJOR issue and that's publishing.
    I have tried publishing to MobileMe, I tried local and upping the contents via a different FTP program and I have tried uploading to FTP from within iWeb.
    The issue that a lot of people are reporting and Apple is ( regretabbly ) not doing anything about is the problem with the settings on the website ( left panel of iWeb)
    Normally you would want to save everything of a certain website under a site. iWeb does that, fine.
    Yet when you publish your site to MobileMe or any other FTP location, it ALWAYS adds the friggin' SITENAME to the path.
    Why can't I get rid of that nonsense ? I want my site looking like http://www.mysite.ext/index.html
    NOT like http://www.mysite.ext/<sitename>/index.html
    So, to me, it looks like Apple is adding a variable to the publishing path which should NOT be there.
    Please Apple, fix this or tell us in which plist this stupid setting is set so we may be able to change that. It's ridiculous this way.

    @Ethmoid
    Yes I have read your reply and it's similar to many replies in the forum.
    Users always get put off with the same nonsense band-aid sollution like " publish locally then upload via other ftp program"
    Although I will grant you this works, what use is the whole FTP function in the software if you cannot use it as it is supposed to work ?
    Some other things I would like to mention in regards to this bug ( yes it is still a bug in my book )
    - Apple does not mention the a-typical behavior anywhere in the documentation
    - Apple does not mention the Auto-Adding of the Website name in the Knowledge Base
    - Hundreds of people have complained about this odd behavior of the program
    What really ticked me off today was the following:
    I have tried to contact Apple in various ways about this bug.
    Sent in feedback various times, tried this forum ( no luck thusfar ) and even started a Fast Lane Incident. The result of that was that I was given the option that I would have to pay 49 Euro's before apple would even listen to the problem. I tried to tell them that it's a bug in their software which I already had paid for.
    In The Netherlands it's set by law that any product ( no matter what ) which does not perform as expected has to be solved by the company that made the product. ( there is more to that but i'll leave it as is for now )
    So, I am a paying customer who paid for his software which has a bug. I ask for a sollution and all I get is " You have to pay 49 Euro's per incident" . *** ???
    Now you can call me a ranter as many times as you want but no matter how you put it, the behavior in iWeb is odd in relation to any other ftp enabled web publishing client. Pick any 100 different softwares for web publishing with ftp feature and i'll bet you 100 US $ that at least 99 of them upload in the folder you set in the program and they will not add any folders by themselves the way iWeb does.
    This combined with the many, many similar posts about this oddity, you cannot keep it up to tell all these users they rant and just need to buy another piece of software to do just that what iWeb should be able to do.
    As for the fix.
    If people are really " happy" with this behavior of auto-adding a sitename, then at least let Apple give us a choice to either switch this behavior ON or OFF. It should be easier to do and fix then any of the other bugs they recently fixed.
    I really hope you see it as it is, a faulty product...

  • Why can't I sync more than one computer?  This is a serious design flaw.

    I have a macbook and so does my wife. So, who gets to sync and who ends up in the streaming ghetto? This is a pretty crappy design choice. We should both be able to sync to a combined library on the appletv so that we don't have to fight over who gets a less convenient experience on the appletv.
    You can call it the "marriage saver".

    You just need to get two Apple TV's and perhaps an HDMI switch so you can easily go back and forth between the two without having to buy another TV. Instead of getting a switch one person could use HDMI and the other could use component output but that might cause some problems as well. If you're only going to use Synching then AppleTV looks just like an iPod and you both need one of your own. It really isn't as ridiculous as it sounds since it's $50 cheaper than the 80GB video iPod.
    Maybe you should both agree to stream. It works really well. Perhaps set up a common iTunes to synch from. Good luck .. I've got similar issues with both kids and wife! So I've an AppleTv in the Den for the kids (synched with Kids stuff) and in the Family room we have another AppleTV synched with more grown up stuff. To go back and forth we just stream to the other library.

  • Regular expressions: serious design flaw?

    I wondered why sometimes, the replaceAll() method works in my code and sometimes it throws a java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException. I wrote a little test case to show the problem
    private void regularExpressionTest() {
            String escapers = "\\([{^$|)?*+."; //characters to escape to avoid PatternSyntaxException
            String text = "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.";
            System.out.println("Original: "+text);
            String regExp = "o";
            String word = "HELLO";
            String result = text.replaceAll(regExp, word);
            System.out.println("Replace all '"+regExp+"' with "+word+": "+result);
            text = "The quick brown {animal} jumps over the lazy dog.";
            System.out.println("Original: "+text);
            regExp = "{animal}";
    //        regExp = escapeChars(regExp, escapers); //escape possible regular expression characters
            word = "catterpillar";
            result = text.replaceAll(regExp, word);
            System.out.println("Replace all '"+regExp+"' with "+word+": "+result);
    }//regularExpressionTest()The output is:
    Original: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
    Replace all 'o' with HELLO: The quick brHELLOwn fHELLOx jumps HELLOver the lazy dHELLOg.
    Original: The quick brown {animal} jumps over the lazy dog.

    Exception in thread "main" As the first replacement works as espected, the second throws an Exception. Possible because '{' is a special character for the regular expression API. In case I know the regular expression, i could escape these special characters. But in my generic server app, the strings are all parameters, so the only way for replaceAll() to work is, to escape all possible special characters in the regular expression.
    1. Is there a complete list of all special characters for regular expressions that need to be escaped?
    2. Is there a similar replaceAll() method without regular expressions? So that all occurences of a substring can be replaced by another string? (So far, I wrote my own method but this is of course more time consuming for massive string operations.)

    1. The complete list of specially-recognized characters are listed in the Java 1.4.* API. (Of course, new ones may eventually be added as the regex package matures).
    2. It is time consuming to program in general. You should have written your own utility method that goes through a String using indexOf and building up the String in a StringBuffer, and apparently you did. Now you have the utility method...you no longer need to write that method again.
    3. Or you could have written some kind of method that automatically escapes the specially-recognized characters...

  • I dropped my zen micro; now wh

    I was clumsy the other day and dropped it; not hard, but apparently just hard enough to make it not start properly anymore. I think the hard dri've must be damaged. When I turn it on it goes to a screen that has the creative logo on it, and it just sits there forever and ever. The touchpad doesn't respond (no clicks or anything), and the only way I can turn it off is to take out the battery. Putting the battery back in turns it back on and it goes to the creative logo again until the battery runs out.
    I tried rescue mode, nothing worked. Disk cleanup just had it say "Scan Disk" until the battery ran out, nothing happened. Format All just had it say "formatting" until the battery ran out, nothing happened. Rebooting just brought it back to the creative logo. I didn't try the third option, since I don't have internet access on my home computer at the moment (meaning I can't download the latest firmware, either) and I didn't want to risk screwing things up further (if that matters right now).
    So I guess my question is, since this probably isn't covered by the warranty (it doesn't cover "accidents" or as far as I can tell, anything else that might cause an mp3 player to need repairs), what options do I have? Can I send it in to get it repaired for a fee? Or am I completely out of luck? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Bobd,
    Creative does do out of warranty repairs/replacements for the cost of the part being repaired. So if it is the Hard Dri've being replaced, then we can repair it for what it costs to replace the hard dri've (most companies would charge you the total price for a replacement player). Contact support if this is what you decide to do and they can issue an RMA for you.

  • Zen Micro dodgy headphone socket and impersonal supp

    Hi
    I heard lots of horror stories about a bad headhone socket- slightest jiggle of th eunit and you lose a channel, or get echoey sound. Now I have the problem.
    I reported it to support and got an auto reply telling me a zillion things I don't need to know or check, and completely ignoring my spoecific reported problem
    So far, this support sucks and I'm most unhappy. Just thought everyone should be aware of the impersonal support I have recieved and I now have a unit that is virtually unuseable and is not yet 3 months old
    BW

    I did mail back to support but I am not sure, nor is it obvious whether an auto reply will accept a response- a fact that is strengthened by the non-response since
    What basis things are there to check anyway- I reported a specific fault, which was not even touched on in the "auto-reply"

  • Serious Design Flaw in iPhone 3G SMS UI!

    Problem: In the SMS screen, the "Send" button is just right on top of the keyboard's U, I, O , P keys. Whenever I try to tap these keys, I'll hit the "Send" button accidentally. And then there's no way to cancel the transmission. Many of my friends seem to have similar issue.
    Request:
    o I hope the Apple team can place the "Send" button away from the keyboard.
    o Add the ability to cancel SMS transmission if it's in progress.
    On some side issues, I also noticed the iPhone lacks the following basic phone features:
    o Deleting multiple/all contacts.
    o Save contacts to SIM card.
    o Add security code to the phone like one of those in Nokia. That means if a different SIM card is used, the phone will prompt for security code.
    If these problems can be solved, then I'm pretty such Apple makes a very good product.

    Hello there....welcome to the world of iPhone - where some of us have been here since the launch of the first iPhone. Obviously you have just had your iPhone for a few days. You will get over the typing issues. Just practice. You will stop hitting the send button as soon as you get used to typing.
    As for the contact issues you have - You delete groups of contacts - or all - in whatever software you use on your computer to organize your contacts. Outlook? You don't need to save your contacts to a sim card as you have them on your BIG SIMCARD you are using right now....your computer.
    If someone steals your phone and tries to change the sim card, Apple/AT&T have the ability to lock the phone down so it can't be used. I've had it done when my first phone was stolen.
    There ya go. Welcome to the board.
    Please choose to get to know your phone better before proclaiming it less than perfect. THANKS!

  • Creative Zen Micro 4GB - Headphone jack & transferring probl

    I haven't updated my firmware since I got the player in May (out of the box firmware update? Go away).
    My headphone jack is loose. I'll often only have music in one ear, especially if I'm walking or sitting down and have the player in my pocket or bag. I've started carrying my discman because I don't like pulling out my $300 mp3 player every couple of minutes. Is that the infamous solder problem?
    Also, my computer no longer recognizes the player. My sister had the problem a little while ago (same player, newer firmware because she got hers a month ago), and we reinstalled the drivers and everything is cool. Mine still doesn't work.

    Sounds like it.

    What firmware do you have on your player?
    Have you run a disk cleanup from rescue mode?
    When you connect the player is it listed in Device Manager?
