Server 2010 SP2 - Quick Launch and Permissions

Hello,
With server 2010, we would like to have on the PWA navigation pane a link to a sharepoint list in the BI Center.
We would like that only PMO's will see this link.
Is it possible to restrict audience in Server Settings --> Quick Launch?
Another question, is it possible to give a permission on the list based on a Project Server Group?
Thanks,
Barak

Hello,
You can create custom permissions for the PWA quick launch if that helps. See the link below:
For 2007 (but applicable to 2010 too):

  • Project Server 2010 SP2 Timesheet Errors

    Hi,
We use Project Server 2010, SP2 in SEM mode. Users use IE9. Some of our users complaining that while entering timesheet, sometimes "h" for hours is auto populated next to the hours entered in the cell... and sometimes dont appear and then timesheet
freezes. Anyone have any suggestions when would this happen and any resolutions?
And some users also get the following error...
An error occurred when communicating with the server. Check connectivity with your administrator to determine whether further action is necessary", then attempt to approve TimeSheet"
    Please suggest.

Let us know what turns up. It certainly looks like you are losing connectivity. The other possibility is that your databases are in need of attention. Ask your SQL DBAs whether they are following best practices for Database management and have a SQL maintenance
plan running on the Project Server databases.

  • Do I *really* need a Service Connection Point in AD to complete a Project Server 2010 SP2 installation?

    Hi all,
I have installed Project Server 2010 SP2 and run psconfig.exe
PSCONFIG is failing because it cannot set up a Service Connection Point in AD. I've checked in AD and the contains 'Microsoft SharePoint Products' does not exist. All the resolutions I can find suggest adding the container into AD.
The issue I have is that I have no control of the AD, and adding containers will take lengthily negotiation.
Is there any way of completing the installation and getting my site back without adding the container into AD?
    Thanks in advance.

    other solutions
    1) check timer service see if it is running

    2) check UAC (and the rest of the technet answers - some are listed below)

    3) My workaround:I
run once again the command „PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures“  in
the “Bin” Folder as an administrator console session. In the moment I saw the staus “Configurationtask 5 of 6 is executed”
I start to run the command “net start SPTraceV4 & net start SPWriterV4 & net start SPAdminV4 & net start SPSearch4 & net start SPTimerV4” in a parallel administrator console session and after that the configuration task finished successfully.

    4) Try running the psconfig.exe command a second time
    5) had the same issue and called Microsoft support.  Here is the fix:
Stop the "SharePoint 2010 Timer" service
Delete ONLY the xml files from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\216f8013-b78b-4e5b-8631-3a5f4c7277e8
Note: Do NOT delete the cache.ini file in this folder
Edit cache.ini and change to "1"
    Start "SharePoint
    2010 Timer" service
Run psconfig again:  PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force
    6) Initially I tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2009272 but
it did not help (I re-implemented later).
    I re-registered the DLL’s as perhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/da/winservergen/thread/b4bd0deb-45d0-4661-8c50-a2b45db41103 from
NareshD.  I do not believe this is necessary unless there is a corruption in the system but I am noting here just
    in case.
I tried to run The PSConfig but it was failing:  I
had to do the following in order to make it finish successfully:
    (from same page at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/94a8bb64-e0ea-493f-8e29-01347b1fc6c7/)
On the migrated SBS2011 PSCDiagnostic Log I found no entry to detect or start the services SPWriterServiceInstance and SPTimerServiceInstance.
I run once again the command „PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent
-install -cmd installfeatures“ in the “Bin” Folder as an administrator console session.
    In
the moment I saw the status “Configuration task 5 of 6 is executed” I
start to run the command “net start SPTraceV4 & net start SPWriterV4 & net start SPAdminV4 & net start SPSearch4 & net start SPTimerV4” in a
parallel administrator console session and after that, the configuration task finished successfully.  (I
just opened another cmd window and copy/paste the sequence below when I saw the status “Configuration Task x of y” on the screen:
    net start SPTraceV4
    net start SPWriterV4
    net start SPAdminV4
    net start SPSearch4
    net start SPTimerV4
-Note SPSearch4 is disabled in our system…
    Very awkward but it worked…
    I implemented http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2009272 again.
Backup started working with no errors.

  • Project Server 2010 compatibility with IE11 and Windows 8.1

    Hi All!
Maybe a silly question since compatibility is always asked about older versions, but here is my question:
Is Project Server 2010 compatible with IE11 and Windows 8.1?
I personnaly tested with IE11 and it seems to be ok. All views and pages can be opened with IE11.
    But what about windows 8.1?
Has Microsoft done any communication about this?
Thanks in advance for your helps.
    Guillaume.

I am seeing a minor issue with the timesheet grid after users are upgraded from IE8 to IE11.
We are using Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Oct 2013 CU.
When some users (using IE11) switches between filters or views in the Timesheet page, the grid shrinks making to content un readable.  The only way to get it back is to refresh the page. After a refresh, the grid returns to normal size, but the pane
divider is too far to the left and always must be dragged to the right in order to see the task names in the left grid.

  • Quick Launch and Desktop Shortcuts

Every time I upgrade Safari it installs new quick launch and desktop shortcuts - why?
Can this avoided... Obsolete ones stop working, new ones link to exactly the same place (often) and really Apple should be asking if we 'want' these short cuts in the first place... it a pain to keep deleting and swapping them about just because Apple decide to upgrade.
I have no other software that does this.
Does anyone have a work around?

The LabVIEW installer itself cannot create shortcuts on the desktop or remove older versions of itself. You can create an executable to create shortcuts and have your installer launch that executable. But for more complicated things like uninstalling previous versions, you might want to look into a third party installer like Wise or InstallShield.
LabVIEW 6.1 does not really have any installer features that 6.0 did not. 6.1 does use an MSI installer instead of the previously used Wise installer. Theoretically, one might be able to use a utility like Orca from Microsoft to customize the MSI installer, but editing MSI files will not be supported by National Instruments.

  • IOS 5.1.1 and MS Exchange server 2010 SP2 Rollup 2 compatibility

    Hello to the community,
Microsoft Exchange Server updated to a new version 2010 SP2 Rollup 2 so I would like to know if iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) is fully compatible with it. We run the 2010 SP1 Rollup 5 of MS Exchange Server.
    Thanks in advance.

That is not how i read your problem.  It sounded like propagating to Exchange was fine, but changes from Exchange did not get updated in Unity Connection right away.  My symptoms were that the voicemail message arrived in Outlook immediately.  If I read it or deleted from the phone, then Outlook reflected that right away too.  But if I read it or deleted it in Outlook, it took awhile for the phone MWI to go off.  In fact, when I just read it, I'm not sure it ever went off, but when I deleted it, it eventually went off.
We have our voice servers (including Unity Connection), sitting behind Cisco ASA firewalls.  We allow all traffic outbound from the voice servers, but restrict it coming inbound.  I have a server group for the Exchange servers that allows any port through.  I did not remember to add the new Exchange 2010 servers to this group.  TCP port 7080 appears to be the only port used.  I do not know how the voicemail eventually got deleted in Unity before, unless it eventually came from one of the Exchange 2007 servers.  But I definitely saw port 7080 getting blocked, and once we opened it up, the updates from Exchange to Unity happened within seconds.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard "Certificate Authority Service" / Exchange Server 2010 EMC not starting and no AD connectivity for authentication.

    Hello,
I am a new IT Manager at this company and need assistance big time. Their environment looks as follows:
Server 1. Domain Controller Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running active directory.
Server 2. Email Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running Exchange Server 2010 .
    * Note. No back ups to work with aside from whats mentioned below.
DC had a virus infection causing a lot of issues on the shared network drives 2 days ago locking up all the files with a crypto ransom virus. Running Avast suppressed the infection. Had to recover the file shares which luckily had a back up.
The issue is that the Exchange Server 2 post this lost connectivity with the AD Server 1. Exchange Server 2 when launching EMC could not launch the console stating the following:
"No Exchange servers are available in any Active Directory sites. You can’t connect to remote
Powershell on a computer that only has the Management Tools role installed."
Shortly after I found that it is possible the EMC launcher was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled following another blog post. I deleted the exchange management console.msc  per instructions only to discover I couldnt relaunch it because there was
no way how. So I copied another msc file that happened to be on the DC Server 1  back to Exchange Server 2 and got it to launch again.
Another post said that it might be an issue with the Domain Account for the Computer, so to delete it in the AD Server 1 only to find that rejoining it from Exchange Server 2 using Computer>Properties> Chage Settings > Change is greyed out because
it is using the Certificate Authority Service.
I tried manually re-adding the computer in AD and modeling permissions after another server in group settings but no go. After this I was unable to login to the Exchange Server 2 with domain accounts but only local admin, receiving the following Alert:
"The Trust Relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed."
I tried running the Power Shell tools on Exchange Server 2 to rejoing and to reset passwords for domain accounts as noted in some other blogs but no luck as the Server 2 could not make the connection with Server1 or other errors it kept spitting out.
I also during the investigation found the DNS settings were all altered on both the Server 1 and Server 2 which I luckily was able to change back to original because of inventorying it in the beginning when I started.
I need help figuring out if I need to rejoin the Exchange Server 2 manually by disabling the Certificate Authority Service (or removing the CA as listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/fb23deab-0a12-410d-946c-517d5aea7fae/windows-server-2008-r2-with-certificate-authority-service-to-rejoin-domain?forum=winserversecurity
and getting exchange server to launch again. (Mind you I am relatively fresh to server managing) Please help E-Mail has been down for a whole day now!

  • Error Install Update Rollup 3 Exchange Server 2010 SP2

    Hy Guys,
I have the follow troubble when i try install the Update Rollup 3 Exchange 2010 SP2 on CAS Server. The error is "The user who's currently logged on doesn't have sufficient permissions to install this package. You need at least Exchange Server Administrator
permissions on the current computer to complete the task."
I've checked the permissions of the user which run the installer and those permissiones are OK. The user belong to Domain Admin, Enterprise Admin, Exchange Organization Management groups.
I don't know what else to do. Thanks for your great help.

    Hi Wilmar
Do you have PowerShell execution policy via Group Policy that could be blocking the install? If you right click the file and select "Run as Administrator"?
Can you try running the setup from an elevated command prompt?
Or you can enable logging by executing the patch like this below:
    Rollup3.msp /lxv* c:\Rollup3.log

  • Exchange Server 2010 SP2 Rollup 8

    Hi All,
I currently have MS Exchange 2010 SP2 rollup 4-v2  and I am planning to update to SP2 rollup 8. I have few questions below. My exchange is setup as a two member DAG.
    1. Do I need to uninstall any updates before I apply SP2 rollup 8?
    2. Microsoft article says that Rollup updates are not shown automatically in windows updates when setup in a DAG. In my case when I go to control panel/windows updates I do see SP2 rollup 8 along with other updates. Does that mean that I can install
    from there directly?
    3. Is it necessary to put exchange server in maintenance mode when applying rollups OR  can I simply run from windows update each server at a time?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    First read this:
End Of Exchange 2010 SP2 Support
    1. If you have any interim updates installed, then they must be uninstalled before you can upgrade your Server(s). Since SP2 is no longer supported, you really should be on SP3 by now +
    RU5
    2. Microsoft article regarding updates to DAG Members is not up to date. Rollups are visible in Microsoft Update and this changed, if I remember correctly, in SP2 RU3 or RU4 which included critical security updates. It is possible to install them from
WU, but you will have better control if you install them manually from an elevated command prompt.
    3. Not necessary but its recommended, especially on DAG Members.
I know that the Exchange 2010 Forum can be a bit hard to find, but here you have the link to it if you have other questions regarding that version

can i go directly to rullp 7 without installing  2,4, 5, 6 or I have to install all rollup ?
and what's the bests  practices for installing rollup ?

    Hello,
You can install rollup 7 directly without installing rollup 2,4, 5, 6.
You should install rollup 7 on your Exchange 2010 server roles in the following order: Client Access/ Hub Transport ,Mailbox and Edge Transport.

I upgraded to windows 10 today, and although a bit sluggish, all seems well. However the start menu will not open, and only certain programs will run if I right click it. Also, the quick launch icons just completely refuse to work! Seriously beginning to do my head in now!

  • Project Server 2010 SP2 - Use with IE11, Firefox and Safari

More groups in my company are being onboarded to start reporting time and managing projects out of Project Server /PWA 2010.  We found that one of the groups have MACs and use either Safari or Firefox.  There are some members of that
same team who are using an HP machine but are using IE 11.
From what I am reading and what I am seeing it appears that with Firefox and Safari you cannot access Manage Timesheets or Project Center.  Has anyone found a work-around for this?
The work-around we are using for IE11 is to add Project Serrver to the Compatability View.  Does anyone know of a problem with this approach?
    Thank you

Look into using the 'IE tab' for Chrome/Firefox as a work-around. I had a similar scenario with Mac users and installed IE tab in their Chrome/Firefox browsers for them and worked pretty good for the most part. Hope this helps.

  • Exchange Server 2010 SP2-Upgrade

I am currently preparing my SBS 2011 for a migration to Server 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 installed. On my SBS 2011 I ran the Best Practices Analyzer 1.3 and was informed to upgrade my Exchange 2010 to SP2.
When I run the update, it checks if all requirements are met. For both the Organisation and Mailboxrole it comes up with a "warning" that for my domain, the Recipient Update Service can't be found. It mentions that new and existent users might
not be properly Exchange activated. Nevertheless, I was able to upgrade Exchange without any errors.
    Is this warning a problem?

OK - thanks for your reassurance.
I have re-run "Best Practices Analyzer 1.3" and it mentions that "the most recent Update Rollup is not installed". As a resolution is says run Windows update. When I do this, no further updates are found. In the Exchange Management Console
I see that I have Version 14.2 (Build 247.5) installed.
    Any ideas?
P.S. I have just seen that there is an Exchange SP3 along with Update Rollup 9... should I update to this? How should I best do this - install 2010SP2RU8, then 2010SP3 and finally 2010SP3UR9?
