Server admin web services missing

I just installed Server Admin Tools on my Lion Mac Mini Server and when I go to Settings->Services the checkbox for "web" doesn't appear. I am running MAMP on the box. Can someone tell me how to get the web services to appear?

web services is no longer part of server admin. You have to use the Lion server app to manage websites. This caught me out as well.

Lync 2013 Director web services missing Persistant Chat

When deploying Lync 2013 Director server the web services are missing the virtual directory for Persistent Chat. Persistent Chat is using the same URL as other Lync web services, but since the directory is missing in the Director IIS, Persitent Chat failes.
If I use the Front End for web services Persistent Chat works fine. Has anyone seen this or maybe implemented a workarround?

I generally publish the front end pool's external web services FQDN for this. If you're using a reverse proxy, you should be able to redirect individual virtual directories to various internal pools, but I would just point this and all simple URLs
to a central front end pool.

Weblogic app server wsdl web service call with SSL Validation error = 16

Weblogic app server wsdl web service call with SSL Validation error = 16
I need to make wsdl web service call in my weblogic app server. The web service is provided by a 3rd party vendor. I keep getting error
Cannot complete the certificate chain: No trusted cert found
Certificate chain received from ws-eq.demo.xxx.com - xx.xxx.xxx.156 was not trusted causing SSL handshake failure
Validation error = 16
From the SSL debug log, I can see 3 verisign hierarchy certs are correctly loaded (see 3 lines in the log message starting with “adding as trusted cert”). But somehow after first handshake, I got error “Cannot complete the certificate chain: No trusted cert found”.
Here is how I load trustStore and keyStore in my java program:

Because my program is a weblogic app server, when I start the program, I have java command line options set as:
-Dweblogic.security.SSL.trustedCAKeyStore=SSLTrust.jks
-Dweblogic.security.SSL.ignoreHostnameVerification=true
-Dweblogic.security.SSL.enforceConstraints=strong
That SSLTrust.jks is the trust certificate from our web server which sits on a different box. In our config.xml file, we also refer to the SSLTrust.jks file when we bring up the weblogic app server.
In addition, we have working logic to use some other wsdl web services from the same vendor on the same SOAP server. In the working web service call flows, we use clientgen to create client stub, and use SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter to load trustStore and keyStore, and then bind the SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to the webSerive client object and make the webservie call. For the new wsdl file, I am told to use wsimport to create client stub. In the client code created, I don’t see any way that I can bind SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to the client object, so I have to load certs by settting system pramaters. Here I attached the the wsdl file.
I have read many articles. It seems as long as I can install the verisign certs correctly to web logic server, I should have fixed the problem. Now the questions are:
1.     Do I create “cacerts” the correct order with right keeltool options?
2.     Since command line option “-Dweblogic.security.SSL.trustedCAKeyStore” is used for web server jks certificate, will that cause any problem for me?
3.     Is it possible to use wsimport to generate client stub that I can bind SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to it?
4.     Do I need to put the “cacerts” to some specific weblogic directory?

I received a workaround by an internal message.
The how to guide is :
-Download the wsdl file (with bindings, not the one from ESR)
-Correct it in order that the schema corresponds to the answer (remove minOccurs or other things like this)
-Deploy the wsdl file on you a server (java web project for exemple). you can deploy on your local
-Create a new logicial destination that point to the wsdl file modified
-Change the metadata destination in your web dynpro project for the corresponding model and keep the execution desitnation as before.
Then the received data is check by the metadata logical destination but the data is retrieved from the correct server.

Exporting server admin and service preferences for backup

I have never used this feature and would like to know if there is any problem using these exported files to reinstall the server admin and service preferences?

AFAIK, yes.
Best answer: try it yourself.
Testing your own full recovery path is a Good Thing.
I tend to use the export and import knobs when I'm going to go mess with stuff in a test configuration, and I want a path back and a way to restore the previous settings. (Though because the services can be reconfigured and modify files elsewhere on the disk and entirely dependent on what I'm testing in SA, this isn't necessarily a good global solution. Which gets back to recovery testing. And occasional full disk backups with Disk Utility or analogous.)

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

Operations Manager 2012 Management Pack Catalog Web Service - Missing Management Packs

I am using SCOM 2012 R2 with UR5 and I see things like Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 in the catalog when doing an MP import, but some other items like: SQL Server 2012/2014 and SharePoint 2013 are missing. I can download them from the MS download site,
but is this catalog web service being maintained?

Hi Darren, I know what you mean. It would be nice to be able to pull the latest management packs as well as management packs available from the download site from the catalog via the Operations Console, however, the packs in the catalog are not comprehensive.
I highly recommend the SCOM management pack wiki which is kept up to date by the community. I use this myself :) An added benefit to using this wiki over the catalog is that this links to the download page for the management pack of interest from where you
can obtain the management pack and its documentation which often contains useful detail on what the management pack entails. The wiki link is below:

Leopard Server Admin Web panel controls apache 1.3 instead of apache 2

When I use Server Admin 10.5's Web panel, it controls apache 1.3 when everything I read says the panel should control apache 2.
How can I make apache 2 the default web server on Leopard (for startup, Server Admin, et al)?
NOTE: This is on a new XServe shipped earlier this month with 10.4 Server installed. After a few days, I upgraded with the included 10.5 Server DVD. My hunch is that this is caused by the upgrade even though Web services we not turned on in the few days it was running 10.4. I don't have any use for apache 1.3 and I'd really like to avoid a clean install because of all the other work I've done on this system.

the version of apache is set here:
/var/db/.ApacheVersion
stop the web service
edit the hidden file .ApacheVersion with pico (as super user)
1 for apache 1.x
2 for apache 2.x
start the web service
This will not transfer your websites from your 1.x installation.

Project Server 2010 Web services access with Client Certificate Authentication

We switched our SharePoint/Project Server 2010 farm to use client certificate authentication with Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0, which is working without issue. We have some administrative Project Server Interface (PSI)
web service applications that no longer connect to server with the new authentication configuration. Our custom applications are using the WCF interface to access the public web services.
Please let us know if it is possible to authenticate with AD FS 2.0 and then call
Project Server web services. Any help or coding examples would be greatly appreciated.

For proper authorization, the “user logon account” in PWA for the user needs to be changed from domain\username to the claims token (e.g.
'I:0#.w|mybusinessdomain\ewmccarty').
It requires you to manually call the UpnLogon method of
“Claims to Windows Token Service”. if (Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is ClaimsIdentity)

"Pages" and "Sheets" columns in Server Admin Print Service Jobs

I've been using Print Service for a while now and it's been working reasonably well.
When I'm monitoring queues in Server Admin, I've noticed there are columns for "Pages" and "Sheets." These columns are always blank for every print job in every print queue.
I am not using Print Quotas, but I am managing Preferences for Printing in Workgroup Manager.
I have two questions:
1) Any idea why these columns are blank? Does the client-side and/or server-side printer driver have to support this feature? I'm using HP's latest Laserjet drivers for each queue on both the clients and the server. Perhaps these columns are only applicable when using Print Quotas?
2) If these columns did show something, what would be the difference between "Pages" and "Sheets?" Apple's own documentation offers no description. All their Print Service manual says is:
"Jobs are listed in priority order, and include the name of the user who submitted each job, the name of the job, its size, the number of sheets to be printed, the current status of the job, and the number of pages in the job (you might need to scroll to see the page column)."

Server Admin - iCal service not showing?

I've got iCal enabled (and it's running) but the service doesn't show up on the Server Admin. I need it so I can configure the service. Any idea why it wouldn't show up in here? Thanks!

If I follow your question correctly, you are using Server Admin.app.
Apple moved the iCal GUI into the Server.app.
They split up the services into two control apps for now from what used to be one. Maybe in time they will be consolidated again...

How do I set the scheduling server group via the web services .Net SDK?
This doesn't seem to work:

schedulingInfo.ServerGroupChoiceSpecified = true;
This is the exception:

With web services, you cannot set the servergroup name. you will need to set the CUID of the servergroup as per the documentation:
SchedulingInfo.ServerGroup - gets or sets the ID of the server group that will be used to process scheduled report objects.
so your code should look similar to:
schedulingInfo.ServerGroup = "ASNjG2kHXKxGmsZu03ZniHI";
schedulingInfo.ServerGroupChoice = ServerGroupChoiceEnum.SPECIFIED;
schedulingInfo.ServerGroupChoiceSpecified = true;
note: in the Web Services SDK, an ID is not the SI_ID of an object, but rather the SI_CUID.

Content Server: News Web Service - Customization

I have highly customized the news web service portlet. The final item on my list of customizations is to only show the "Create Article" when the user has the appropriate priveleges. How can I retrieve the user's authorization/permission level so that they will not see the "You are not authorized message" since they will never see the button?
