Server giving group policy error 4098

I have been developing group policies to replace our login script.  The policy copies many files over from a shared network drive.  On many of the policies I have set it to run in the local user's security context so that the GP will pick up the
drive letters (they are different depending on the office).  On one server in a remote office where the Group Policy is not applied I keep getting errors every time I enable the policies in a separate test OU.  It does not make any sense to me as
the policies should not apply to this server, the server is not a domain controller, and I did not login to this server under my user account.
Here is an example of the errors (there are hundreds of similar errors):
The user 'Worksharing Monitor for Autodesk Revit 2011.lnk' preference item in the 'New Cadd {184A655E-D801-4589-AAF4-37788F771193}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.'
This error was suppressed.
The user 'AutoCAD 2011 - English.lnk' preference item in the 'New Cadd {184A655E-D801-4589-AAF4-37788F771193}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.' This error was suppressed.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi,
You cannot the computer configuration policies to users. Please first of all , provide a new policy in the user configuration - shortcut" , and move the users that applying the shortcut policies to related OU. And gpupdate -- try again.
Thanks.

    Hi,
As I go through the .xml logs, nothing special was detected.
Would you please let me the file server's hardware configuration and how is the server's performance?
Besides that, could you please ask user to try on another pc and check if the problem still occurs.
Then we may able to narrow down the scope for troubleshooting.
    Thanks and regards,

However it each case the user still gets their drive mapping!
I've this only occurs with Drive Map GP Preference -I've even taken a user out of all policies except for a new test drive map policy and they still get this error. I've applied the hotfix that should be the latest version of the GP dll's (KB2622802) but
the error remains. I've tried all options within the GPP for Drive Maps - Update, Replace etc,
Should I just override the OpsMgr alerts? It seems like this is a bug with 2008 server and GP Drive Map Preferences?
    Any ideas would be appreciated
    Thanks

I searched the internet nothing related to my case.

  • Printers working, but getting group policy error (error 513)

Ok great, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi all,I've got a print server role running on a Server 2012 VM. It was working great until a few days ago until one of the printers went offline. I restarted the print spooler (no effect), then restarted the server (brought the printer back online). Since then, I've been receiving these errors for all three printers we have on this server:Error ID: 513Source: Microsoft-Windows-PrintServiceMessage: Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection \\___\\Copier Konica Minolta C360 PCL. Error code 0x7B. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server. The printer names did not change, and since the printers are working, it seems that the spooler is working. I also tried updating the drivers through print management (there is a new version of the driver...

  • How do I set firefox as the default browser in Windows Server 2012 Group Policy Editor?

Hello, I am unable to set firefox as the default browser despite multiple different attempts to do so using group policy.
    I have:
    - Set a registry command (targeted at 32/64 via a WMI query) to reset the opening command as shown below:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\command
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint -url "%1"
    - Set a powershell logon script to run (that does run):
    firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser
Despite setting the above it seems the client computers browsers are not affected by the settings above. When the script runs or if I run the command above a UAC window pops up and requests that I accept the command (for the setDefaultBrowser) but even if I click yes as an administrator it does nothing.
Since GPO in 2012 has changed perhaps there is something that I am missing? Do I need to somehow disable Windows Internet Explorer from achieving default browser status?
Please do not reply if you will suggest that I use Internet Explorer Maintenance (since this function in GPO has been disabled since IE10)
My DC is Server 2012, my client computers are Win7 32/64.

The above reply does not take into account that I am trying to use GROUP POLICY EDITOR to make it the default browser.

  • Windows Server 2012 Group Policy Block USB Storage devices @ User Level Not getting applied on a Domain Client machine with Windows Server 2008 R2. Why?

    Hello,
    I have a Windows Server 2012 R2.

  • Server 2012 Group Policy Templates installed on Server 2008 R2

    Setup: 2 x Domain Controllers running Server 2K8 R2 SP1
We are currently running our environment with IE9 and want to upgrade to IE11. However 2K8 R2 group policy doesnt support IE11 unless you upgrade your DC's to this version of IE. We are not going to deploy IE11 all at once but instead as we reimage or replace
    PC's.
My question is can install http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36991 Server 2012 templates on 2008 R2 and have the ability to apply GP objects to both versions of the browser? Will it's possibly make some of the current GP's ineffective
    by erasing some settings?
Maybe there is a better was for me to do this? Any help on this would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
I will monitor this thread very closely and reply to any questions as soon as I can. Thanks!
    BCU

Yes this can be done and its advisable to install the latest and greatest admx templates, please be aware that from IE10 upwards IE maintenance is deprecated and applied via a GPP, id advise you create a central store for your Admx and adml files if not
    already done so

  • Windows Server 2008 - Group policy for domain client to start/stop services installed on it

    Hello Experts
I am a newbie to windows server administration , though did a Google  , but ended up with these question with my requirements
    I have created a new domain and 2 client/computer (A & B namely) to domain . Now A & B has tomcat server running with port 8080 , 9090 which i have installed
    domain ADMIN account .
&& now i am want to start/stop/restart services enabled for domain users  !! How do i achieve this !!
basic question : How can i access A & B tomcat services on DOMAIN CONTROLLER server to create a GPO and that are on (A & B)
what is the easiest way to achieve the same , (if not using GPO)???
similarly I am looking for many features : where I want to control the permission to user on (A & B ) like : If the binaries of tomcat is available on machine say : A , if the user can install (now
    it ask for ADMIN credentials)
    Thanks
    Mike~Ed

Controlling services with Group Policy is done under Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services.
The limitation is that system services can only see the services the computer running the Group Policy management console. To access other services, you will either need to create the services on your computer (install the software the adds the service)
or install the remote server administration toolkit (RSAT) on the computer with the service already on it.

  • Group Policy Error

     Hi All,
While creating and modifying the Group Policy, we have received a error on one of the DC.
Background: We have created one Group policy for testing, some of settings were not visible, so couple of time we have edited the group policy to take the proper settings.
Please refer the attached error, and suggest us.
NOTE: the group policy was created and edited via AGPM
    Thanks
    Thanks HA

    > Please refer the attached error, and suggest us.
Check ACLs on the sysvol folder of your policy. Usually, this is an
orphaned ACL for authenticated users with only the "sync" right enabled.
    GPMC fails to update this.
As a quick workaround: In the security filtering of your GPO, simply add
authenticated users, confirm and remove them again.

  • Lock Screen Group Policy - Error code 0X80070002

    Hi
I'm trying to update the workstation policy (2008R2) to show a new Lock Screen for our users.
    I have two policies:
    -Windows 7 Workstation Policy
    -Windows 8.1 Workstation Policy
It was no problem for our Windows 7 machines.
    Windows 8.1 however wouldn't change.
The picture downloads successfully to the client directory I specified in the policy, resolution and size are ok.
I've tried deleting the sysdata folder on test machines (This left me with a blue lock screen, but still better than what they chose ;)
I've tried default and unique filenames, and different folder locations under 'Force A Specific Lock Screen'
    I've disabled/enabled 'Force a Specific Lock Screen'
I came across this warning on the client test machine:
The computer 'backgroundDefault.jpg' preference item in the 'Win8.1 Policy}' Group Policy Object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.' This error was suppressed

    Hi ,
Can you please post the gpresult report here? And also ensure there is no policy processing failure in the problematic machines. That you can verify by seeing the gpsvc logs.

  • Group Policy Errors

    Hello
I have an installation of Server 2012R2 as my DC. I am trying to setup GP for users to provide settings for IE10/11. I am not finding all of the options and I keep receiving an error about the admx file.
An error has occurred while collecting data for Administrative Templates.
    The following errors were encountered:
Resource '$(string.VerMgmtAuditModeEnable)' referenced in attribute displayName could
not be found. File C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\inetres.admx, line 1495, column 249
I downloaded the file from MS and tried copying it to that directory in an elevated command prompt and it says I dont have permission to do that. I looked and it seems that everything is only read/execute with no modify ability. So I was going to try creating
a central store on SYSVOL per a suggestion on another forum, but I cant create a folder in SYSVOL\Policies because only the SYSTEM has modify rights.
I am logged in as a Domain Admin user. How am I supposed to fix my GP issues if I dont have the "right" to do it?
    All suggestions will be appreciated.

  • Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied
to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.

I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes
the Group Policy Client service to stop?

You still out there looking at things? If so I have an update. The issue hasn't stopped, even though it did seemingly die down for awhile, however, it is now back with a vengeance.
I am able to force it to happen by killing the svchost process that is hosting GPSVC. If I run gpupdate /force, then logout/login it does get GPSVC running again. Furthermore, if I simply start svchost again via the Task Manager GPSVC starts running again.
When I access the server remotely with KVM it acts just like it does as if I'm logging into it via Citrix/RDP which for Admin IDs gives an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service...",
however, normal user accounts just get a message when logging into the server "The Group Policy Client Service Failed the Logon. Access is denied."
I haven't opened a case with Microsoft yet, but we about ready to because of the increase in these errors.
If you have any further suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'll provide an update once I get word back from Microsoft.
**EDIT -- apparently I mistook the the server's SCM's actions as my own. I was able to successfully crash the GPSVC service by killing the hosting svchost process, however, after I crashed it and let it sit crashed for awhile when I attempted
to restart either by starting a svchost task, or running gpupdate /force it failed. Either that, or there is a timing issue where if we don't restart the svchost process, or run gpupdate /force quickly enough it won't be able to recover without a reboot.
