Server OutOfMemoryError on return

I am using the JBoss application server and I am receiving an OutOfMemoryError that is picked up by the client when I return an object from the server. The error looks like this:
java.rmi.ServerError: Error occurred in server thread; nested exception is:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
at sun.rmi.transport.StreamRemoteCall.exceptionReceivedFromServer(StreamRemoteCall.java:245)
at sun.rmi.transport.StreamRemoteCall.executeCall(StreamRemoteCall.java:220)
This happens right after the code that returns to the client from the server. Right before I send the object back, I check the free memory and I have over 8Gigs left (-Xms8G -Xmx10G) The object being sent is about 300 megs. I also have a try catch block for OutOfMemoryError's on the server side code, wrapped around the return, and I get no errors on the JBoss console. I am using JBoss3.0.0.
I am thinking that something is going on from the time the ojbect leaves the server to the time it reaches the client.
Any ideas??

Ok.
The out of memory problem can occur if you run out of "permanent heap space" which is only part of the regular heap space.
Or at least in previous versions it could.
So you might try adjusting that.
See http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/VMOptions.html and search for "permanent"

  • DTR: Ping on server ... returned: 401 Unauthorized

    Hi there,
    has anyone experienced (and solved) the following:
    when trying to connect to the DTR from NWDS, I get the following mesage in my Command Output:
    DTR: Ping on server ... returned: 401 Unauthorized
    Logging on via browser (http://<srv>:<port>/dtr or /devinf) works fine.
    The DTR server only consists of the J2EE stack and all user roles / groups seem to be set up correctly.
    Thanks in advance for your help !
    Best regards
    Jochen

    Hi Jochen,
    You are correct with your assumptions.  When you login to the DTR, you are sure that you are using a username/pass that has the appropriate role?  That's the only explanation I can think of.  The other responses to your question probably won't help much, because if those were the root of your problem you would probably be getting a 404 instead of a 401.  401 really indicates that there is some security/user auth problem.  Please double check this and let me know what your progress is.
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hello Julian
    This is a known problem.
    Cause
    - A user may have been added to a group in another ldap tree with a name, that is already existing.
    - When DTR retrieves the group from UME, we get 2 similar group names, but the groups may be different.
    - DTR cannot handle this and throws "Internal Server error"
    Resolution
    If you change parameter "ume.ldap.unigue_grup_attribute" to 'uid', DTR doesn't use the groupname,
    but the group-uid, therefore the group is unique.
    1. open Visual Administrator
    2. choose Services
    3. choose UME Provider
    4. Reset "ume.ldap.unigue_grup_attribute" with 'uid'
    5. restart the system
    Thanks
    Kenny.

  • ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly!

    We have several adobe connect HOST meeting rooms. Lately, some users have sent us their complaints arguing:
    "Unable to connect - FMS server did not return corrently"
    I asked them to send me the test's details.
    "App-Server returned: code:ok, servers=rtmp://fmwebserversec:1935/_rtmp://localhost:8506/,rtmpt://fmwebserversec:443/_rt mp://localhost:8506/"
    I know, this threat has been post at this forum, but I don't find a solution for my users. The Adobe Connect Support is trying to give a solution, but at the moment, I haven't recieve any solution.
    I' ve tried: disconnect firewall, anti-virus,... and they keep unable to connect. (using adobe connect hosted ver 7.5)
    Thanks for your advice and help.

  • Error "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" When Returning Large Number of Docs

    In our SES implementation, we have a custom search interface that allows users to search for documents and then add them to a "shopping cart". Users add then to their shopping cart from search results, by adding docs one-by-one or an Add All option. Once they are done "shopping" they create a report.
    Here is the scenario...
    Users are saerching for documents and seeing that on page 1, there is 1 - 10 of about 300 results. They clicked Add All and want all 300 docs added to their cart.
    What we do under the covers is we execute another search and set the docs requested to 200. We get the array of docs, iterate over them and add the keys to a list. We found 200 docs at a time to be a safe number. However, there are still 100 docs that were not added to their cart and users want all 300 added. In other words, when they click Add All, they want to add all docs, 300, 500, 5000, etc.
    I set the "Maximum Number of Results" to 500 and found that I can safely add up to ~ 350 docs at one time. However, going past this point throws the following error:
    [SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:Server; msg= [java.lang.OutOfMemoryError]]
         at oracle.search.query.webservice.client.OracleSearchService.makeSOAPCallRPC(OracleSearchService.java:941)
         at oracle.search.query.webservice.client.OracleSearchService.doOracleSearch(OracleSearchService.java:469)
    After this error is thrown, SES was unable to recover and searching would not work anymore, even return 10 docs at a time. We had to restart SES to resolve the issue.
    1. What is throwing this error? Is it the amount of XML being returned?
    2. What is the maximum number of results we can get back at any one time? Is it based on the amount of data being returned or the number of attributes?
    We are running 10.1.8 with plans to upgrade soon.
    Thanks in advance.

    I know it may be hard to throw away all this code, but consider using the jakarta fileupload component.
    I think it would simplify your code down to
    // Create a factory for disk-based file items
    FileItemFactory factory = new DiskFileItemFactory();
    // Create a new file upload handler
    ServletFileUpload upload = new ServletFileUpload(factory);
    // Parse the request
    List /* FileItem */ items = upload.parseRequest(request);
    // Process the uploaded items
    Iterator iter = items.iterator();
    while (iter.hasNext()) {
        FileItem item = (FileItem) iter.next();
        if (item.isFormField()) {
            processFormField(item);
        } else {
            // item is a file.  write it
            File saveFolder = application.getRealPath("/file");
            File uploadedFile = new File(saveFolder, item.getName());
            item.write(uploadedFile);
    }Most of this code was hijacked from http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/fileupload/using.html
    Check it out. It will solve your memory problem by writing the file to disk temporarily if necessary.

  • SQL 2000 linked server to MSDAORA returns "provider did not ...

    Hi, I have a linked server setup in SQL 2000 using "MS OLE DB Provider for Oracle" to connect to a Oracle 9.2 DB on another server.
    This works fine apart from when the Oracle database is being backed-up, in which case any query against it returns: -
    Step Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
    Step Error DescriptionLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (80040e14): OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].)
    This is OK when the backup is running but we could be missing important messages if the Oracle errors are not able to be passed back correctly.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    did you find any answers? I have encountered the same problem

  • JNDI lookup() for sql server jdbc datasource returns null

    Hi,
    I am trying to use a jdbc datasource in tomcat 5 to access a sql server 2000 database. I had many common problems and did found an answer to them in the forums but I'm having one last (I hope) problem. My program is also using a mySQL datasource and it works fine.
    The problem is that my lookup returns null. No exception, just null. It seems that many people had this problem but I didn't found any answer to it.
    This is the lookup code:
        Context ctx = new InitialContext();
        Context envCtx = (Context)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env");
        axaptaDS = (DataSource) envCtx.lookup("jdbc/axapta"); //returns null :(This my context.xml config:
    <ResourceParams name="jdbc/axapta">
        <parameter>
          <name>factory</name>
          <value>com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.SQLServerDataSourceFactory</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>url</name>
          <value>jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://hostname:1433</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>password</name>
          <value>password</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>maxActive</name>
          <value>4</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>maxWait</name>
          <value>5000</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>driverClassName</name>
          <value>com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.SQLServerDataSource</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>username</name>
          <value>username</value>
        </parameter>
        <parameter>
          <name>maxIdle</name>
          <value>2</value>
        </parameter>
      </ResourceParams>And I also put these lines in my web.xml file:
    <resource-ref id="ResourceRef_1092254277306">
         <res-ref-name>jdbc/axapta</res-ref-name>
         <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
         <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
         <res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
    </resource-ref>Thanks for helping!

    I finally found a remedy to this problem:
    specify this driver instead and remove the entry about the factory in the context's .xml file:
    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver

    <p>I looks like your mixing technologies here.   You are using <strong>Crystal Report Server</strong> and the <strong>Crystal Report Web Services</strong> that come with Visual Studio.</p><p>I know that this might seem like they are the same product, and the naming does seem confusing but I&#39;ll try and make it easy for you to understand.</p><p><strong>Crystal Reports Server</strong> - This is a managed reporting solution which allows you to distribute your reports via the web.  It has features like scheduling and built in security.</p><p>It appears that you have a handle on what Crytal Report Server is from what you have been able to accomplish those far.  You have created your report and published it to Crystal Report Server and viewed it via the Central Management Console.  Crystal Reports Server has two methods for accessing the reports programatically.</p><p>1. The Enterprise SDK</p><p>2. The Web Services SDK</p><p><a href="/node/353">Check out this white paper that compares these two SDKs </a></p><p><a href="/node/256">This paper describes the Web Services SDK.</a></p><p>In the above paper there is a getting started section which points you to the Developer Library which shows you how to install the web services on your Crytal Reports Server machine.</p><p>Crystal Reports Server does not have the Business Object web services installed by default so I would suggest following the directions in the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm">Developer Library.</a></p><p>The directions wont talk about Crystal Reports Server but these are the directions to get the Web Services installed. </p><p>There is another web services technology which you are writing code for which is called <strong>Crystal Report Web Services.  </strong>This technology comes with Visual Studio 2003.  It provides un-managed reports via webservices.  Un-managed means these reports are not published to Crystal Reports Server.</p><p>So basically your problem is that your code is for <strong>Crystal Report Web Services </strong>but you are trying to view reports published to <strong>Crystal Reports Server.</strong>  To take advantage of scheduling and security and web service access I would suggest using Crystal Reports Server and install the Business Objects Platform webservices to access the reports. </p><p>I hope that&#39;s clear.<br /></p><p>Rob Horne<br /><a href="/blog/10">Rob&#39;s blog - http://diamond.businessobjects.com/blog/10</a></p>

  • InDesign Server (via SOAP) -- Returning Binary Data: Possible or Not?

    is it possible to return binary data to soap client?
    given: myFile = File('MyFancyJpeg.jpg');
    I want to return either a base64 encoded, or hex result back to the SOAP client. (filetype, above, is totally arbitrary, by the way)
    Is InDesign server capable of something like this?

    I think so. See ww-ids-soap.pdf in the SDK. You can return to the client any value you want; the value is typed in the SOAP response. An example from that pdf of a mixed-type array response:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <SOAP-ENV:Envelope
        xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
        xmlns:SOAP-ENC="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"
        xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
        xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
        xmlns:IDSP="http://ns.adobe.com/InDesign/soap/">
        <SOAP-ENV:Body>
            <IDSP:RunScriptResponse>
                <errorNumber>0</errorNumber>
                <scriptResult>
                    <data xsi:type="IDSP:List">

                        <item><data xsi:type="xsd:long">12</data></item>
                    </data>
                </scriptResult>
            </IDSP:RunScriptResponse>
        </SOAP-ENV:Body>

  • Server.MapPath(virtualPath) Returns root directory of controller, it is nor returns the physical path mentioned in the virtual directory in IIS

    I have created a virtual directory "myVirtualFile" virtual path is "\myVirtualFile" and I have given physical path as "D:\Home\myProject\Files"
    Below is my code
    var virtualpath="/myVirtualFile\UserManual";
    var resultPath=Server.MapPath(virtualpath);
    out put is resultPath contains "D:\Home\myProject\Web\client\myVirtualFile\UserManual" Expected out put is "D:\Home\myProject\Files".
    It returns the folder structure of my project. I didn't return the physical path which I mentioned in virtual directory.

    Hi,
    I am not expert on Asp.Net. But I will try my best.
    The following sample is what are
    Virtual paths and Physical paths
    ASP.NET the "~" tilde indicates the root of a virtual path.
    Virtual paths
    ~/App_Data/Sample.xml
    ~/
    ~/Map.txt
    Physical paths
    C:\Website\Files\Sample.xml
    C:\Website\Default.aspx
    C:\Website\Map.txt
    Server.MapPath doesn't find automatically where a file is. It allows to get the physical path
    corresponding to a virtual path (relative to the current request if you don't give an absolute path)
    If above still cannot resolve your issue, please repost in Asp.Net forum, The link as above posted.
    Have a nice day!

  • [Exchange-Online][EWS][EWS-XML] Exchange server version "V2_22" returned for Office 365 breaks pattern - consequences?

    I just notice that talking to Office365 Exchange Web Services at https://outlook.office365.com/ews/exchange.asmx I get this in my SOAP response header:
    <Envelope>
      <Header>
        <ServerVersionInfo MajorVersion="15" MinorVersion="0" MajorBuildNumber="1049" MinorBuildNumber="23" Version="V2_22"/>
      </Header>
    This means that the Version 'schema version' property (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/exchangewebservices.serverversioninfo.version%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx) now breaks the pattern of versions that we had earlier: Exchange2007, Exchange2007_SP1, Exchange2010,
    Exchange2010_SP1, Exchange2010_SP2, Exchange2013
    In the schema files I found through Google (searching for <xs:simpleType name="ExchangeVersionType">) I could not find anything later than <xs:enumeration value="Exchange2013"/> (e.g. at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee237685%28v=exchg.80%29.aspx)
    If I do a SOAP request with this "V2_22" string, I still get valid answers.
    <soapenv:Envelope
      xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
      xmlns:typ="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/services/2006/types"
      xmlns:mes="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/services/2006/messages">
       <soapenv:Header>
          <typ:RequestServerVersion Version="V2_22"/>
       </soapenv:Header>
    But it now looks as if the returned Version is no longer a reliable way to determine the Exchange server version. If V2_22 is not documented anywhere, who says it will not suddenly change to V2_23 tomorrow?
    Question: Does this mean I will now have to change my version detection code to look at MajorVersion and then maintain a cross reference between MajorVersion and ExchangeVersionType **myself**? That is horrible: another dependency to maintain
    is another potential code break.
    As an aside: Note that the "Exchange Server Updates: build numbers and release dates" at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh135098%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx is no longer up to date, it does not mention the 15.0.1049.23 that my XML just returned

    What really matters in EWS is the SchemaVersion as that will tell you what operations you can and can't use. From 2010 on you can use AutoDiscover to find what SchemaVersions are supported which is the best way to do version detection. eg
    AutodiscoverService adAutoDiscoverService = new AutodiscoverService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2010);
    adAutoDiscoverService.Credentials = ncCred;
    adAutoDiscoverService.EnableScpLookup = false;
    adAutoDiscoverService.RedirectionUrlValidationCallback = adAutoDiscoCallBack;
    adAutoDiscoverService.PreAuthenticate = true;
    GetUserSettingsResponse adResponse = adAutoDiscoverService.GetUserSettings("[email protected]", (new UserSettingName[1] { UserSettingName.EwsSupportedSchemas }));
    if (adResponse.Settings.Count >= 1)
    String schemas = (String)adResponse.Settings[UserSettingName.EwsSupportedSchemas];
    I would be careful using the Major build going forward if you have a look at the requests in OWA in Office365 you'll see they are using version 16 in cookies etc
    Cheers
    Glen

    Can any one tell me how to fix the problem

    Run sdm in "mode=integrated". The problem is: you run SDM in standalone mode.
    For more information about howto change mode look up in your directory:
