Using Web Services on the Crystal Report Server XI to return reports

Hi,I'm trying to setup for the first time a Crystal Reports Server XI R2 and put a couple of reports onto the server. This is so I can access the reports on the crystal reports server using using the crystal web services and finally display the reports in an ASP.NET web application.So far I have installed the server, created a couple of reports, put them on the server, and tested to see that I can access the reports using the Central Management Console. This all works fine and the reports are returned. Ok, now for the bit that's not working. I looks like your mixing technologies here. You are using Crystal Report Server and the Crystal Report Web Services that come with Visual Studio.I know that this might seem like they are the same product, and the naming does seem confusing but I'll try and make it easy for you to understand.Crystal Reports Server - This is a managed reporting solution which allows you to distribute your reports via the web. It has features like scheduling and built in security.It appears that you have a handle on what Crytal Report Server is from what you have been able to accomplish those far. You have created your report and published it to Crystal Report Server and viewed it via the Central Management Console. Crystal Reports Server has two methods for accessing the reports programatically.1. The Enterprise SDK2. The Web Services SDK<a href="/node/353">Check out this white paper that compares these two SDKs </a><a href="/node/256">This paper describes the Web Services SDK.</a>In the above paper there is a getting started section which points you to the Developer Library which shows you how to install the web services on your Crytal Reports Server machine.Crystal Reports Server does not have the Business Object web services installed by default so I would suggest following the directions in the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm">Developer Library.</a>The directions wont talk about Crystal Reports Server but these are the directions to get the Web Services installed. Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.

By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

Please provide support for the above request.
It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

Web service deployment on oracle app server, need help

Hi All..,
When I deploy a web service on the Oracle Application Server (10.1.3.3) the WSDL that is generated from JDeveloper and package with the EAR file is overwritten at deployment time. The parameter names for the method calls for the web service are change from actually parameter names to generic ones. For example, “amount” is changed to “param0” or “vendorId” is changed to “param1”. Is there a way to not let this happen ??

Encapsulation Error in Crystal Reports using Web Service Connection

Hi Experts,
I'd like to request help in investigating an issue we are currently having in Crystal Reports. Basically, the solution design is:
-Web Service is Used as connection
-Dynamic Hyperlink value is used to access another Crystal Report
Issue: Dynamic Hyperlink value is based on a summary. We are getting Encapsulation Error message whenever we try to click a link having 30k value.
Does anyone here can give us some tip on how to investigate the issue? For such cases, which component (datasource, CR, etc.) of the solution normally causes the issue? Are there any limitation in using Web Service for Crystal Reports?
We'd greately appreciate any help here.

Hi Mark,
There could be many reasons for this rather 'generic' error. Is the Business Objects Enterprise clustered?
Also, could you try saving both the Main and the target reports to the Enterprise with the 'No printer' option checked.
(File > Page Setup> No Printer).
Also, what happens when the target report is viewed on its own?

I am struggling to get the list of values for a dynamic parameter of a report.I am using Java Web Services SDK ... I tried to use PromptInfo.getLOV().getValues() method but it does not work.First of all ... is this possible (to get the list of values for a dynamic param) using Web Services?Second of all, if this is possible, how should I do it ... it seems it works fine when running the report from CMC. It asks for DB logon info and after that it provides a list of values.Thx 

Your assumption is correct. We are trying to get the LOVs from the Crystal Report. I was not aware that this is not supported by Web Services SDK.We used Web Services SDK to integrated the Crystal Reports in our web application. We implemented some basic actions for reports: schedule, view instances, run ad-hoc reports.We encountered this problem when trying to run/schedule reports with dynamic parameters (a list of values from DB). We were unable to get the LOVs.Please let me know if you can think of an alternative to look at.Thanks a lot,Catalin

SQL Server Reporting Services provides access to the full functionality of the report server through the Report Server Web service. Because the Report Server Web service is an XML Web service which uses Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) over Hypertext Transfer
Protocol (HTTP), any SOAP-aware application or development tool can communicate with the SSRS web service.
There are three primary ways to develop Reporting Services applications based on the Web service, please see:
Develop applications using Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK.
Develop applications using the rs utility (RS.exe), the Reporting Services script environment.
Develop applications using any SOAP-enabled set of development tools.

Report that uses web services as data source, prompts for database logon

I have a crystal report that uses web services as a data source. When I deploy the report to Infoview it prompts me for a database username and password. Since I am not using a database it should not prompt me for these. I tried various options in the CMC->database settings for this report but it still prompts me for the database logon info or tells me that the database logon information is incorrect.
The report work fine in the Crystal Reports Designer.
Does anyone know how I can prevent this report from prompting me for the database logon info ?

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

What is the best way to deploy application that uses web services?

Hi all,
I'm having some problems figuring out the best way to deploy our app now that we've switched over to using web services.
I'm fairly new to Java and web services. From what I understand, JNLP and WebStart are methods to deploy Java clients to users and not for creating war files and the like.
Here's a little background:
We have a large PowerBuilder/Oracle application. The db consists of over 500 tables and the client consists of several thousand PB components. A user creates "transactions" which contain a series of "sub-transactions" within. Most of the data is collected and stored locally in the client in a series of datastores. When the "finalize" happens, the records are validated and sent to the database.
We are in the process of moving each of the subtransactions (currently in the PB client) into subPROCESSES on a java project. We are using the JAX-WS framework to develop the web services in Netbeans. These web services aren't much more than remote xml as the messaging technology. For writing data back to the database, we are using the Java Persistence API to function outside of an EJB container but will shortly be migrating to the Glassfish application server to use several of the EJB container frameworks including the EntityManager.
We haven't attempted any type of deployment and are unsure of where to start. Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated!

It is for launching rich client GUI based (AWT, Swing, SWT..) applications onto the end-user's desktop.
There are some parts of JWS that might seem peripherally useful to the installation of a web-app., but it is really not a 'good fit'.

BizTalk to Web Service - Error - The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.

Hi Everyone,
I am connecting to an external web service from my biztalk application through a dynamic send port.
When my biztalk application is trying to send the request message to the web service through the send port, I am getting the following error :
The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
The external web service team have provided a certificate and a private key to install in my server.
I have installed the certificate by double click the .pfx file using the private key and have added the certificate in the host ProcessHostx64.
Still i am getting the same error.
Can someone help on this issue ?

The Private Key should be installed under the user running the BizTalk Server Host. Please confirm that you have done this?
If so, try to make this work in a small .NET test Application before porting it to BizTalk, so that you can confirm that you do have sufficient credentials to call the Service.

I am not totally sure that error occurred by the authentication. But I suggest you can try to add this service into your project using this method below:
1.right click the Reference and select Add Service Reference
2.input your service link and click "Go"
And you can use this service as the following:

Why we need a proxy server while we are using Web services?

Hi guys,
i am new to web service.
i tried to implement the web services thru Sun One Application server.
thru one of my web service operation only i am establishing connection with the database.
by that time it has thrown the exception "*connection with the host could not be established*".
but i created a proxy setting thru netbeans and the the database connection established.
What is the difference?
When i tried to conect with database thru a normal java program i never created a proxy.
Why i need in case of web service.
For kind information: We have firewall in the network...
can any one tell me briefly What is the need of proxy setting over there???

hi guys,
after a long struggle, i found the answer for this question.
that is In Sun One Application Server, we have the WS-Plugin (Web Server Plugin)
that plugin is used to redirect the HTTP request to a Web Server from the Application server.
In default this plugin will be in enable mode.
As long as WS-plugin is enabled, we need to proxy setting to handle any HTTP service.
is i am right?
if anyone have better solution that this, pls post that here.
