Server side flash

Hello,
we're investigating a way to get our content onto the ipad.  The content is dynamically driven web based training.  Flash is the delivery mechanism, and it pulls from our database what it's supposed to display, play, etc...
There's some ipad apps such as cloud browser or iswifter that will render our content, but we're investigating how this is done as we would prefer to have our own solution.
Remote desktopping is one possibility, but this requires a per user fee that is too expensive.  It looks like cloud gaming might be a better solution, but we're wondering if adobe has a solution.
The flash files are very interactive, so coding for html5 doesn't cut it...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Kim

I have done that temporarily, but we were hoping to do this
without placing a Flash SWF on the page. We are building a
troubleshooting page, and want to keep as many variables out of the
calculations as we can. IE, if Javascript is the issue, then a
Javascript to tell us the Flash version would be a bad idea. If
Flash is the issue, then a flash element would be a bad idea. If we
keep all of the calculations on the server-side, and not on the
client-side, then we know that nothing of the clients is messing
with the information displayed.

  • Flash and server-side Java interaction

If I have a graphic designer who is going to build a Flash
front-end that needs to interact with server-side Java code running
in a web server (Tomcat), should we be using Flash Remoting with a
front-end that the designer creates with the Flash builder? It
seems like that would be the easiest way for them to build it
rather than having them get into Flex and all that. However, if
there's a better way, please point it out to me, because I've never
tried using any of these Adobe products. Thanks...

    hi Naija
If you need to communicate with flash and java , then you
need to move to the flash remoting concept. it the better way to
communicate with the server side scripting language.

  • What is the difference between jsp :include and server side include

what is the difference between jsp :include and server side include(request dispatcher include method)????
i understand that both request dispatcher include method and jsp:include take dynamic data,so when would one use request dispatcher include and when jsp:include.
Is the usage interchangeable?i believe jsp include is used only for jsp/html but include directive can be used to include servlets ,jsp and html....correct me if i m wrong and
do suggest if u hav ny other diff in this context...

The difference really is: in what format do you want your inclusions? If your environment has many Java developers and only a few designers that focus mainly on, say, Flash, that might push you more towards the server-side include() directive. Or, if you have a large set of pages that receive dynamic content that is displayed in a consistent fashion (such as a workflow header area on a page).
If, on the other hand, you have more web designers, there may be a greater desire to deal in markup rather than Java code. Java developers themselves might prefer to view markup (JSP) that more resembles the eventual output than something occuring in Java code.
Finally, there are considerations of tiering. While it is totally possible to (and I have previously) implement 'view classes' that render markup or generate layout templates, JSP's offer, IMO, a subtle, psychological advantage. By forcing a developer to work in a different format, markup versus Java source, the separation on view from controller and model becomes a bit easier. It is still possible to make mistakes, but if a developer at some point notices, "Wait, I'm in a JSP, should I be importing a java.sql class?", then the choice to use JSP includes has paid off in spades.

  • Is it possible to send data from a webcam to a server via flash?

I've been reading about the Flash CS3 Camera class and can't
seem to find out if there is any way I can grab a frame or two off
the camera and send it to a web server. Is this possible?

sure. you can create a bitmap from the video stream and then
you can upload it to your server (with some server-side scripting).
you can search for help on those two topics to accomplish your
    task.

  • Server Side Includes not rendering correctly in Firefox with Layers

    Hi
The server side includes are not correctly rendering with layers in firefox. From my site here:-
    http://www.osteriastecca.com/index.php
the home_page.php content renders above a layer on the index.php page. Initially I thought this might be a Flash layer issue but the wmode is set correctly to transparent and it works fine with a normal ssi. It also works fine in Firefox without a server side include as you can see here:-
    http://www.osteriastecca.com/index_old.php
Works fine in IE and Safari, but not Firefox.
    How can this be rectified?
    Regards

What testing server setup do you have? Are you using something like WAMP?
What do you see on screen which tells you the SSIs are not rendering? Any error message?

javascript are run on the client side.. but i think what you actually mean is getting some validation to your database without submitting the form?. yes it doesn't consumes time and memory of server.. why not use ajax so you can only submit a little request.. rather than submitting the whole page..

  • Write to text file without server side

    Hi,
I need to write data into a text file for saving data from my
flash movie, but I didn't have the possibility to use a
    server-side.
Because my flash movies are stored on a CD and it must be
    compatible with Windows and MacOS.
Is it possible to write data into a text file?
If no, can I use a third party software? Which one?
    Regards
    YamNet

A SharedObject might work for you. Otherwise, you'll need a
    'wrapper' app.
Adobe's own Director works very well for this, and AIR would
    work as well.
There are also a good number of 3rd party apps, such as Zinc
    and others.

  • Local SWF vs Server Side SWF and PHP

I am having the strangest problem... I have a form in Flash
where I use the sendAndLoad () function to communicate with a PHP
file, that then sends an email with the loaded data. The action
works fine when I run the SWF from my Mac to the server side PHP
file using an absolute address. But it doesn't work when the SWF is
on the server, again running an absolute path to the PHP file.
Has anyone experienced this issue before? Is it a problem
    with security?
    Thanks,
    g

    Hi David
If an online converter suits you, try Flabaco - www.flash-banner-converter.com
It converts SWF to Video, generating three formats - MP4, OGG and WebM.

  • Server-side error including webservice

    Hi,
I'm struggling with the webservice functionality on the
    server-side.
At the top of my main.asc-file I have this line:
    load("webservices/WebServices.asc");
That puts the following in my administration console:
    "WebServices Loaded successfully."
However, when someone connects to the media server and it
tries to initialize and use this webservice using this code:
    MyService = new WebService("uri.to.wsdl.file");
I get the following error in the administration console:
Sending error message: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media
    Server 3\scriptlib\webservices\XMLSchema.asc: line 110:
    ReferenceError: document is not defined
    Failed to execute method (XML.onData).
I've tried googling it and that gave this result, but the
    solution suggested here didn't work:
    Link
    to other forum
This is not caused by the webservice itself, since other
flash and .Net applications can use it without any problems.
Everything also works just fine when I run everything off my local
workstation, but as soon as I put the stuff on the server the error
message appears (and, yes, I've changed all references to the
webservice to be the one on the server instead of the local
    workstation ;))
What is causing this? Why do I get an error from Adobe's own
    code?

Sorry... I take back what I said about it not being the
webservice. It seemed it was the webservice after all... but not in
    the way you'd think.
It seems that the webservice handling on server-side AS can't
handle webmethods that return complex types. I had two methods that
returned DataTable-objects (.Net-objects). As soon as I removed
those the webservice calls worked just the way they should again.
All the webmethods in the webservice now only return primitive
    types.
This still seems like a bug in Adobe's webservice classes,
though. A consumer of a webservice should be able to handle complex
    types.

  • Server Side Flex Code?

My company currently has a back end image rendering engine
built in Java. The rendering engine serves up images on request to
a Flex User Interface through web services. What we have discovered
through benchmarking is that Flex (or the Flash Runtime) is able to
complete simple renders even faster than Java.
So I wondered... can we tap into some of these Flex image
manipulation libraries on the server side?
We would love to develop the entire rendering engine in Flex.
Unfortunately there are some downsides to this such as increased
bandwidth usage since the large raw images used to create the final
rendered image would all need to be transfered over the internet to
    the client.
The ideal solution would be to develop the rendering engine
in Flex but have the Flex code run on the server.
Is this possible? Can anyone comment?
    Thanks,
    Leo Lee

Well, you can create a Flex component/module/app/etc. and put
it on the server. Client can so something that results in request
to server, and part of server response is to do processing on
server using that rendering engine. Just a matter of calling it on
the server from the initial point of client request contact.

  • Can I throttle frame rate on server side?

    I am building many to many webcam based chat application . The application page on client side will show streams anywhere from 1 up to 10 webcams. Most of the streams or chat will inactive so I am thinking that I can broadcast those inactive streams at a very very low frame rate untill they get activated. { I know I can not throttle in flash but can I throttle on server side with FMS or Wowza server?}
Any hints regarding how would I achieve this?

What do you mean by inactive streams - if you mean there is no data to be transfered why do you want them to broadcast at first place? Probably i did not get your question properly if that's the case can you elaborate more?

  • Server side database access with Applets?

Does anyone know how to do this without any JDBC or any other expensive, server heavy and special requirements?
Who could be interested in this?
    Am i the only one?
Most internet hosts, rented i mean, do not give many possibilities you have PHP and not much more to access a MySql or other database engine.
If you want to build an aplication, a decent one, you must use java Applet because server side Java is not very interesting and is very expensive.

Personally, I think server-side Java is very interesting and would disagree that a decent web application necessarily requires applets.
I use Supplehost for their reliable and inexpensive Java hosting service.
Many sites and applications make use of cross-browser DHTML and Java server technologies (JSP and servlets) are ideal for building and delivering data-driven DHTML pages.
Of course applets have their advantages but, without a server providing access to data in a database, they're effectively working just as a static web page.
There are other interfaces to databases: for example, Microsoft SQL Server provides the means to interrogate SQL databases through the underlying web server and to have the results returned in XML format.
For me, J2EE provides the best tools for developing data-driven applications and the question over which client should do the presenting is more often one of how best to cater for the intended audience: cross-browser DHTML is best in some circumstances, applets in others, Macromedia Flash in others.
Check out Supplehost's site: you get SSH and secure FTP access to a shared server, can install and run servlets and JSP applications and upload, configure and restart your applications very easily:
