Server Side Flex Code?

My company currently has a back end image rendering engine
built in Java. The rendering engine serves up images on request to
a Flex User Interface through web services. What we have discovered
through benchmarking is that Flex (or the Flash Runtime) is able to
complete simple renders even faster than Java.
So I wondered... can we tap into some of these Flex image
manipulation libraries on the server side?
We would love to develop the entire rendering engine in Flex.
Unfortunately there are some downsides to this such as increased
bandwidth usage since the large raw images used to create the final
rendered image would all need to be transfered over the internet to
the client.
The ideal solution would be to develop the rendering engine
in Flex but have the Flex code run on the server.
Is this possible? Can anyone comment?
Thanks,
Leo Lee

Well, you can create a Flex component/module/app/etc. and put
it on the server. Client can so something that results in request
to server, and part of server response is to do processing on
server using that rendering engine. Just a matter of calling it on
the server from the initial point of client request contact.

  • Loading a server side flex movie into a client side flex application

    Hello all,
    I'm running a local flex application that's loading another
    flex movie from an external url into a container (via SWFLoader).
    After setting up the whole crossdomain.xml issue, i'm facing
    a weird problem:
    The loaded swf shows up streched and does not inherit any
    styles from the parent application. It also can not trigger any
    function inside the parent application or the other way round.
    When i load the same swf from my local filestore everything
    is fine. It's also working properly when i load the parent
    application from the same webserver the "loadin" swf comes from...
    Does anyone know the problem? How can this be solved? Can it
    be solved? If not, i'm in trouble..
    Best regards,
    N.

    I'm not sure why it would be stretched. As for the other
    issue, look at Security.allowDomain. If you want the loaded SWF to
    have access to the parent Flex app, the parent Flex app must grant
    permission using allowDomain. And vice-versa.

    Hi divya,
    From the error message, you might not have the permissions to get the work item store in TFS production server. You can check the permissions on your production server by using
    tfssecurity command in VS command line.
    Please execute tfssecurity /imx “domain\username” /collection:url, for more information about tfssecurity /imx, please refer to:

    If you have the permission, then you can also clean team foundation cache and try again.

  • How to send Subtopic Message From Server-Side to Client ?

    I’m new at flex and i have a new question about Flex
    Message Service.
    How to send messages from Server-Side Java Code with
    Subtopic?
    For example.
    I customed a Flex Message Adapter in Tomcat Server , with
    this Adapter , i can send message to Client with following code .
    ---------------------Send message to Client------------
    MessageBroker msgBroker =
    MessageBroker.getMessageBroker(null);
    String clientID = UUIDUtils.createUUID(false);
    AsyncMessage msg = new AsyncMessage();
    msg.setDestination("CustomMsgServiceDes");
    msg.setClientId(clientID);
    msg.setMessageId(UUIDUtils.createUUID(false));
    msg.setTimestamp(System.currentTimeMillis());

  • Flash and server-side Java interaction

    If I have a graphic designer who is going to build a Flash
    front-end that needs to interact with server-side Java code running
    in a web server (Tomcat), should we be using Flash Remoting with a
    front-end that the designer creates with the Flash builder? It
    seems like that would be the easiest way for them to build it
    rather than having them get into Flex and all that. However, if
    there's a better way, please point it out to me, because I've never
    tried using any of these Adobe products. Thanks...

    hi Naija
    If you need to communicate with flash and java , then you
    need to move to the flash remoting concept. it the better way to
    communicate with the server side scripting language.

  • Cannot Preview Server Side Includes in Browser

    I am working on building a new site using server side
    includes for the main header graphic and menu items. For testing
    purposes, I created an .html file with one <div> tag
    containing a single graphic and an .shtml file with the server side
    include code placed in the <head> area. (Doesn't seem to work
    if I place it anywhere within the <body> tag... not sure
    why). At any rate, I can see the SSI in the design view of my
    document, but cannot see it whenever I go to preview the page in my
    browser (Firefox 2.0.0.3). Everything works fine if I upload the
    files to my Web server and view them that way, but why can't I see
    the SSI when working on my local files? The Dreamweaver help files
    explain that I should be able to do so, but it's just not working.
    Well, I'm now at a loss and cannot figure out if I'm doing
    something wrong of if this is just a bug of some kind. Can anyone
    help me to solve this problem so that I can get back on track?
    Much appreciated,

    This is not going to work at all. You cannot place body HTML
    in the <head>
    region.

    please tell me what should i do for every change done to server side program, that should reflect / available to GUI?

  • Problem inserting records after execution of server side code

    Hello,
    I've created a server-side function for duplicating a master record and it's details. This function has two input parameters that define the new unique key of the master record. Because the user has to supply the new unique key, there is a possibility that the unique key already exists.
    The server-side function is being called from a form module. This form module contains all the code needed for opening / closing and aborting the HSD transaction. The form also enables users to add new master records manually.
    If the server-side function is called from within the module there are two possible outcomes:
    1, the unique key already exists and the HSD error message window is displayed.
    2, the unique key does not exist and the records get duplicated.
    If I try to add a new master record in the form after a failed duplication process, I get a form message informing me that NULL cannot be inserted into the ID column. (The primary key.) BTW updates work just fine. However, if I call the server-side function again and the duplication process is succesfull, I can again insert a new master record in the form succesfully.
    I'm assuming that this problem has something to do with the TAPI package because I use TAPI insert calls to insert the master / detail records when duplicating. A workaround for this problem is (obviously) to check if the supplied unique key already exists in the database before calling the server-side function.
    I however am concerned a bit because a lot of program functionality has been implemented in server-side functions and procedures. So I would like to know if anyone has had the same problems and possibly knows if there is a generic solution to this problem.
    Greetings,
    Marco.

    Marco,
    Can you make a test case for me and send it to me? It looks like we might have a bug and I would like to investigate.

    I dw file.dwt (exact like this ext) files may insert server side code supposed all pages depended are in the same code eg cfml?

    I'm sorry, but your English is pretty difficult for me to figure.  I'm assuming your asking how to have a Dreameraver template support ColdFusion. It hat is what you are asking, the template file extension should be:  YourTemplateName.dwt.cfm  - this tells Dreamweaver is a ColdFusion template.
    I hope I understood you and that this helps.

  • Cascading lists drop downs in SharePoint Designer (no server-side code) without postback

    I've created cascading drop downs populated from SharePoint lists, by following
    this post by Lars in SharePoint designer without using code, it works fine, my issue is that the secondary drop down only populates if the main drop down causes auto-post-back, is there any way to make the secondary drop down populate without causing
    post back and without using server-side code?

    Since you are using the ASP:DropDownList, you will need the post-back since it's a server-side control that doesn't use a callback. The following JavaScript library provides for a way to creating cascading dropdowns on the client-side,

  • Logging in flex at server side

    How can we something similar to log4j utility in flex ?
    I need to log errors at server side in flex.

    This may seem an odd question but it actually has it's applications... are you asking about "local" client logging for development purposes (if you can't or don't want to use the console w/trace() for some reason, small screen resolution etc.), or persistent logging to a server or database?  You can also log to a server with Flex remoting via RemoteObject which is better than httpservice in my biased opinion.

  • How to protect JSP source code on the Server Side ?

    I am new on JSP. I Already know about various Web and Desktop technologies but is the first time on JSP. I know ASP for example.
    Well, about .NET platform, it protects my source code on the server, the source code is compiled and on the server, only the compiled file are installed, my source code stay with me...
    About JSP, how it works about ? Is possible to hide my source code too ? What the technique to hide the codes ? I need to prevent access to my source codes...

    About .exe files, do you know if a java class is more easy or dificult to do reverse engineering ?Depends on who your enemy is. If it's for example a hacker with a lot of C knowledge but zero of Java knowledge, reverse engineering .exe would be easier than .class. If one was interested, one would always take time to learn how to decompile the one or other. Making files secure is a waste of time. It's always "hackable".
    If there was a proof of concept, no one major software vendor would have had so much problems with piracy and cracks/keygens. Think about it once again. It's simply impossible. Just have a clear EULA and actually make work of it whenever you discovers if someone breaks your EULA.
    I was thinking about, the .JSP can be converted to servlet .java, and converted to .class, this way hide the source code.Once again, one could still decompile it (or reverse engineer, so you call).

  • Having trouble writing server side code

    I have installed FMS 3.5 (by download from Adobe's site)
    I am trying to develop a simple chat application. It's quite strange that why the following error is producing
    main.asc: line 4: SyntaxError: missing ; before statement: var __CONFIG__.isConfigLoaded = false;
    The first few lines look like this
    ==========================================
    load( "components.asc" );
    var __CONFIG__ = new Object();
    var __CONFIG__.isConfigLoaded = false;
    ==========================================
    if I remove the "var" (AS1 style?) then it does not report any error. Can somebody please help me?
    Kind Regards
    Rakesh

    You're attempting to write AS3 on FMS and it doesn't have any Flash Style AS interpreter for script.  It's plain Javascript as provided by the Mozilla Spidermonkey engine.  I recommend checking out the docs - particularly the Server Side Actionscript Guide.  That should help.
