Logging in flex at server side

How can we something similar to log4j utility in flex ?
I need to log errors at server side in flex.

This may seem an odd question but it actually has it's applications... are you asking about "local" client logging for development purposes (if you can't or don't want to use the console w/trace() for some reason, small screen resolution etc.), or persistent logging to a server or database?  You can also log to a server with Flex remoting via RemoteObject which is better than httpservice in my biased opinion.

  • Can't see BlazeDS server side log

    Hi,
    I'm running JBoss 5 EAP and BlazeDS 3. I don't see any server side log for BlazeDS even though I followed BlazeDS documentation. Following is the logging section in my services-config.xml:
        <logging>
            <target class="flex.messaging.log.ServletLogTarget" level="All">
                <properties>
                    <prefix>[BlazeDS]</prefix>
                    <includeDate>true</includeDate>
                    <includeTime>true</includeTime>
                    <includeLevel>true</includeLevel>
                    <includeCategory>true</includeCategory>
                </properties>
                <filters>
                    <pattern>Endpoint.*</pattern>
                    <pattern>Message.*</pattern>
                    <pattern>Service.*</pattern>
                    <pattern>Configuration</pattern>
                </filters>
            </target>
        </logging>
    According to the documentation, I should see log entries for BlazeDS in JBoss server log. But I didn't. Can anyone help me out with this issue?
    Thanks.

    Sorry, just as an addedum, I can connect through a hard connection, but I can't access Screen Sharing

  • Server Side Flex Code?

    My company currently has a back end image rendering engine
    built in Java. The rendering engine serves up images on request to
    a Flex User Interface through web services. What we have discovered
    through benchmarking is that Flex (or the Flash Runtime) is able to
    complete simple renders even faster than Java.
    So I wondered... can we tap into some of these Flex image
    manipulation libraries on the server side?
    We would love to develop the entire rendering engine in Flex.
    Unfortunately there are some downsides to this such as increased
    bandwidth usage since the large raw images used to create the final
    rendered image would all need to be transfered over the internet to
    the client.
    The ideal solution would be to develop the rendering engine
    in Flex but have the Flex code run on the server.
    Is this possible? Can anyone comment?
    Thanks,
    Leo Lee

    Well, you can create a Flex component/module/app/etc. and put
    it on the server. Client can so something that results in request
    to server, and part of server response is to do processing on
    server using that rendering engine. Just a matter of calling it on
    the server from the initial point of client request contact.

    Hello All,
    We are installing ECC 6.0 with High Availability using HP-UX. We have completed installation in ASCS and Database Instance. Now when were trying to install in Central Instance, we encountered an error at Start Instance which informed us to Log on to remote server and start database. • Bw web report plugin http session hangs at the server side

    Hi,
    I am having problems when closing the browser of a BW web report. After I closed the browser by going File->close, I ran SM04 and found out the Plugin HTTP session hangs at the server side.
    How can we terminate the Plugin HTTP session at the server side when user closes the internet browser?
    I did implement a logoff function at my web template, if user clicks on the logoff, the Plugin HTTP session is terminated at server side correctly. But As you know, 50% of time user will close the report by closing the internet browser instead of clicking the logoff. That leaves lots of hanging Plugin HTTP sessions at our server side.
    By the way, we actived our BEX service at the SICF.
    Thanks for help!
    JA

    Hi
    If you want to avoid a blank page with logoff button, add opener=0
    <a href="<SAP_BW_URL CMD='LOG_OFF' ~command='logoff'
    >" onClick="javascript:window.close(opener=0);">Log off</a>
    If you want to close the session via X, use this code:
    create a sapscript function
    function closeSession()
    logoff()
    window.unload=CloseSession()
    However, the Plugin HTTP session isn't killed.

  • How do I tell FMS to only serve a section of a file using server-side ActionScript?

    We have a bunch of mp3 files on our server and we'd like to serve only particular sections of particular files to users.  For example, hello.mp3 might be four minutes long, but when user 1 tries to play it, he should only be able to play the section from 0:30 to 1:00, whereas user 2 should be able to play the whole thing.
    I'm coming from a background using Wowza Media Server, where this is fairly easy to achieve: http://fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=78.
    Wowza doesn't require any change to the player (it doesn't call any special methods), so I'm looking for the same here.
    I've been fiddling around with the main.asc file and the "Server-Side ActionScript" API to try and achieve something similar.  In particular I've found the Stream.play method, which seems relevant.  But I can't figure out how to attach a handler to a "play" event; all the examples I've seen only attach to Application.onConnect, which doesn't seem to include a connection to a particular file, which I need in order to determine the section that can be played.
    So I'd like to do something along the lines of this (this is completely made up and doesn't follow any of the APIs; it's just an illustration of what I'm trying to achieve):
    application.onConnect = function(client) {
       client.onPlay = function(stream) { // Client.onPlay doesn't exist; what should I do here?
           var section = getStreamSection(client, stream);
           stream.play(section.start, section.end);
    var getStreamSection = function(client, stream) {
       return { start: 30, end: 60 }; // Return value is based on the user's credentials and the file they're trying to stream

    You can find the documentation for Plug-ins here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/plugin_apiref/index.html
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/devguide/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a0d662434 -7ff6PluginAPI.html
    Basically you need to concentrate on E_PLAY event and two fields F_STREAM_LENGTH & F_STREAM_POSITION. I am pasting below some code which you need to paste in your sample Auth Plug-in which you can find in : <installdir>/samples/plug-ins. You would have paste below code in case E_PLAY section in MyFmsAuthorizeEvent::authorize() function and compile it. You would basically get AuthModule.dll which you need to place in modules/auth and restart FMS.
    // Set the Stream to be played back only for 10 seconds starting from 10 th second
                                  // Stream will play from 10th Second to 20th Second
                                     float fValue;
                                  char buf[1024];
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH, fValue))
                                            float fLength = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            fLength=10.0;
                                            sprintf(buf,"Modifying Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            setFloatField(m_pAev,IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH,fLength);
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_POSITION, fValue))
                                            float iPosition = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream Position value passed from player %f\n",iPosition);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            iPosition=10.0;
                                            sprintf(buf,"Modifying Stream length value passed from player %f\n",iPosition);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            setFloatField(m_pAev,IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_POSITION,iPosition);

  • Need help setting up Flex on server (sdk?)

    This should be a simple noob question:
    I have Flex Builder on my local machine. I've created an
    application (project.mxml) that uses VideoDisplay to play some
    videos chosen from a List using an XML file as the data source. The
    app works great testing on my local machine.
    I now wish to take my project and put it on my Windows 2k3
    server.
    I copied over my project directory to the server at
    D:\Flex\ProjectName, and I set a website in IIS using home
    directory D:\Flex.
    At this point, I go to my local machine and punch in the URL,
    http://10.xxx.xxx.xxx:8700/ProjectName/bin/project.html,
    which brings up my application UI. I can see the app, it looks
    identical to my local machine. However, when I go to select my
    video from the List, nothing plays. I've included a function that
    checks for connection and it doesn't report back with an alert.
    As for the server, it has the newest version of Flash player
    (not sure if this is even needed on server side?) and it also has
    the Flex Data Services 2 installed (yes, I'm using Flex 2). I don't
    even think I need the FDS2 installed at the moment since I'm not
    really connecting to any data sources other than this xml file, but
    I installed it as a precaution since i have it installed on my
    local machine. This is as far as the server is setup for Flex. I've
    looked at documentation and its not clear to me as to what needs to
    be on the server to get Flex apps to work. Do I need to install
    Flex Builder on the server? Or the SDK? And what files am I
    supposed to give the server from my local machine? I've spent a
    great deal of time on this to see it fail on the server, so any
    help is appreciated.

    I've added FLV to the MIME extensions list and restarted
    WWWPS
    Still no video connection. Sigh, this is weird. I am able to
    directory browse and I can see the videos.
    Something strange happens though. If I directory browse to
    /vids/, I can see all my FLV's. However when I click on one, it
    gives me a "Server Error" - Either the Macromedia application
    server is unreachable or it does not have a mapping to process this
    request.
    I changed my script a bit to point to another XML file
    located on the web,
    http://ws.jamesward.org/youtube.xml
    and modified my dataProvider and the source spots to fit his
    structure and it displayed his youtube videos.
    I'm going to try using full URL addressings for each video
    url on my XML file, though I think I did this already without
    progression.
    Let me know about that error I reported.
    EDIT: Using the full URL didn't work. It's still giving me a
    connection failed alert.
    EDIT2: I made a new mxml file with just a
    <mx:VideoDisplay> control only. I set the source to the full
    URL path of a single video on my server and tested the app locally.
    It would not display the video. I then set the source to the
    relative path of the same video on my local machine and the video
    played. So it's definitely something with my server handling these
    FLV's.
    EDIT3: Just to note, my server also has ColdFusion 7.0.2
    running on it. I don't know if that explains the error
    above?

  • Problem in mapping remoteobject on server side

    Hello all
    I am trying to use remoteobjects in Flex and PHP via Zend_AMF.  I am having problem in mapping the data object in flex with the one in PHP.
    Here's my code....
    private function getAuthors(event:Event):void
         serviceRO = new RemoteObject();
         serviceRO.endpoint = "http://localhost/sampleproj/public/";
         serviceRO.destination = "zend";
         serviceRO.source = "MyService";
         serviceRO.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, faultListener);
         serviceRO.getData.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, resultListener);
    Now, here's the server side directory structure that works for me....
    webroot
    + sampleproj
    ++ public
    +++ index.php (index file for the webapp)
    +++ MyService.php (this is the service class)
    +++ VOAuthor.php (this is the Value Object class)
    Since the index file, and the service file and value object are all in same directory, it works.
    This is what DOESN'T work....
    webroot
    + sampleproj
    ++ services
    +++ MyService.php (this is the service class)
    ++ vos
    +++ VOAuthor.php (this is the Value Object class)
    ++ public
    +++ index.php (index file for the webapp)
    The error that I get is:
    Channel.Connect.Failed error
    Here's little of something that's going on in index.php
    <?php
    require_once ('C:/webtools/zendframework/zf/library/Zend/Amf/Server.php');
    require_once ( realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../services/MyService.php') );
    $server = new Zend_Amf_Server();
    $server->setClass("MyService"); // adding the class to AMF server
    $server->setClassMap("VOAuthor", "VOAuthor"); // mapping the ActionScript VO to PHP VO
    echo($server->handle());
    ?>
    My guess is that in ActionScript code I have to do something with RemoteObject's endpoint.
    Can anybody please help me out with this?
    Thanks and Regards
    ShiVik

    The problem turned out to be in the php code.
    Here's how I changed it
    <?php
    require_once ('C:/webtools/zendframework/zf/library/Zend/Amf/Server.php');
    $server = new Zend_Amf_Server();
    // the following methods provide the lazy loading of services and value objects
    $server->addDirectory( realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . "/../services/") );
    $server->addDirectory( realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . "/../vos/") );
    echo($server->handle());
    ?>
    Earlier I wasn't taking into account the change of directories for service and value object files.
    Thanks and Regards

              Your WebLogic doesn't know it's supposed to be doing server-side includes. Make
              sure you have .shtml registered/enabled - see the docs.

  • HOWTO: Setting up Server-Side Authentication with SSL

    This howto covers the configuration of server-side SSL authentication for both Net8 and IIOP (JServer) connections. It documents the steps required to set up an SSL encrypted connection; it does not cover certificate authentication.
    It is worthwhile noting that although the setup of SSL requires the installation of certificates, these certificates do not have to be current, only valid. For some reason, in order to enable SSL connections, it is necessary to set up valid certificate file on the server whether you intend to use certificate authentication or not.
    NOTE: I have been unable to determine whether or not the above statement is entirely correct. If anyone can confirm or disprove it, please let me know.
    The steps described below must all be carried out from the same logon account. They have been tested on both 816 and 817 databases, but will probably work for all versions, including 9i (unless there have been some drastic changes in 9i that I'm not aware of).
    1. Log on to the database server with an administrative login.
    Configure the database and listener to run under the current login account (Control Panel -> Services). It is not necessary to restart these services at this time.
    2. Create an Oracle wallet and set up the required certificates
    (i) Open the Oracle Wallet Manager:
    Start -> Programs -> [Oracle Home] -> Network Administration -> Wallet Manager
    (ii) Create a new wallet (Wallet -> New).
    (iii) When prompted, elect to generate a certificate request.
    (iv) On the request form, the only field that matters is the Common Name. Enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the database server (i.e. the name with which the database server will be referenced by clients).
    (v) Export the certificate request to file (Operations -> Export Certificate Request).
    (vi) Obtain a valid server certificate from an authorised signing authority. It will also be necessary to download the signing authoritys publicly available trusted root certificate. Certificates can be obtained from Verisign (http://www.verisign.com/)
    (vii) Install the trusted root certificate obtained in (vi) into the wallet (Operations -> Import Trusted Certificate). Either paste the contents of the certificate file, or browse to the file on the file system.
    (viii) Install the server certificate obtained in (vi) into the wallet (Operations -> Import User Certificate). Either paste the contents of the certificate file, or browse to the file on the file system.
    (ix) Save the wallet (Wallet -> Save). The wallet will be saved to the [user home]\Oracle\Wallets directory.
    3. Configure the listener for SSL.
    (i) Open the Oracle Net8 Assistant:
    Start -> Programs -> [Oracle Home] -> Network Administration -> Net8 Assistant
    (ii) Select Net8 Configuration -> Local -> Profile.
    (iii) From the drop-down list at right, select Oracle Advanced Security. Select the SSL tab.
    (iv) Select the Server radio button.
    (v) In the wallet directory field, enter the location of the wallet created in step 2, e.g. C:\WINNT\Profiles\oracleuser\ORACLE\WALLET
    (vi) Uncheck the Require Client Authentication checkbox.
    (vii) Select Net8 Configuration -> Listeners -> [listener name].
    (viii) Add a new address:
    Protocol: TCP/IP with SSL
    Host: [database server FQDN] (e.g. oraserver)
    Port: 2484
    (ix) Add a second new address:
    Protocol: TCP/IP with SSL
    Host: [database server FQDN] (e.g. oraserver)
    Port: 2482
    Check the Dedicate this endpoint to IIOP connections checkbox.
    (x) Save the Net8 configuration (File p Save Network Configuration).
    (xi) Restart the listener service.
    4. Configure the database to accept SSL connections.
    (i) Open the database inti.ora file (\admin\[SID]\pfile\init.ora or equivalent).
    (ii) At the bottom of the file, uncomment the line that reads
    mts_dispatchers = "(PROTOCOL=TCPS)(PRE=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer)"
    (iii) Save the file and restart the database service.
    5. Test the SSL confi guration using the Net8 Assistant.
    (i) Open the Oracle Net8 Assistant.
    (ii) Select Net8 Configuration -> Local -> Service Naming.
    (iii) Add a new net service (Edit p Create).
    Net service name: [SID].auth (e.g. iasdb.auth)
    Protocol: TCP/IP with SSL
    Host: [database server] (e.g. oraserver)
    Port: 2484
    Service Name/SID: [SID] (e.g. iasdb.orion.internal)
    Note: at the end of the net service configuration, click Finish, not Test. The test can hang if run from the wizard.
    (iv) Test the connection (Command -> Test Service). If the only error to appear is username/password denied, the test has succeeded.

    Dear Alex,
    Thank you for reaching the Small Business Support Community.
    I would first suggest you to uncheck the "Perfect Forward Secrecy" setting on the RVS4000 and if see if there is some similar setting enabled, then disable it, on the other side.  If still the same thing happens, then go to RVS4000, VPN Advanced settings, and disable the "Aggressive Mode" so it becomes "Main mode" and use the same on the other end of the tunnel.
    Just in case and as a VPN configuration guide, below is a document called "IPSec VPN setup" if it helps somehow;
    http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=2&app=search&vw=1&articleid=587
    Besides my suggestions I would advise you to contact your ISP to make sure there is no IPSec traffic restrictions and/or if there is something in particular they require to make this happen and please do not hesitate to reach me back if there is any further assistance I may help you with.
    Kind regards,
    Jeffrey Rodriguez S. .:|:.:|:.

  • Error 408 on saving server side script

    When I save my server side scripts via the azure portal I receive an error 408 on one of my mobile services account. The same problem occurs when trying to create a new custom api, for example:
    The following API was not created: 'user'. Error 408
    At first I thought there was a problem with the azure service, but it seems to only occur on this one specific mobile service. I think it started after I added a dependency to the package.json file. But that could have been coincidence. The exact same dependency
    doesn't cause any problems on another mobile service.
    Looking at the deployment logs I do see an error occured during deployment, however I have no idea what caused it:

    I've been trying to save my scripts for the better part of a day, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Second day and I still can't save my scripts and thus not able to continue my work. Is there anyone from microsoft that could shed some light on this problem? For some reason adding dependencies to the node.js project stops it from being able to deploy.

  • How do I define server-side spam rules with Yosemite & Server 4

    Really surprised that this isn't functionality available in the server UI. Poking around in the dovecot/spamassassin docs imply this is possible using sieve, but the configuration looks more complex than I'd like to have to figure out on my own. It seems that sieve might be possible to use. In /Library/Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/conf.d, the option sieve_dir is uncommented, pointing to /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules/%u. That seems to imply I could create user directories there and apply some sieve rules, has anyone tried this?
    I'd rather not do user-specific rules, I'd prefer to use the default and attempt to move all spam into a spam folder for each user.
    I've seen notes that the webmail client Roundcube provided server-side rules, but I really don't need the web mail client, and various search results seem to raise questions about whether Roundcube is compatible with Sever 4 / Yosemite.
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Was able to get it working with some digging. The basic summary is that you need to create a rules directory for each mail user, and then add a sieve rule in each of the directories you create. I did this manually, which is manageable because I'm using OS X server for my household, and we don't add members to my household that often... :-). Summary of the steps:
    1) Each user has a directory in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail that is in UUID format (long hex string with sections broken by - characters).
    2) For each of the users you identify in (1), create an equivalent UUID directory in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules
    3) Create a file named "dovecot.sieve" in each of the directories you created in (2). For a basic rule that moves mail marked by SpamAssassin as spam to the Junk folder that Mail.app should create by default, you can use the following:
         require ["fileinto"];
         # rule:[SPAM]
         if header :contains "X-Spam-Flag" "YES" {
                 fileinto "Junk";
    4) Ensure that all of the directories/files are owned by _dovecot. I marked dovecot.sieve as executable, but I'm not sure that was necessary.
    5) Once you've done steps 1-4, you should start to see evidence that sieve is being used for delivery of mail in /Library/Logs/Mail/mailinfo.log. Grep for "sieve" in that to see activity. If there are errors, you'll likely see notices that there are sieve logs being created in the rules directories you set up in (2). I ran into errors for at least one account that didn't have a Junk folder created; if you hit that just have the user create a folder named Junk to clear it up.
    Hope this helps others...

  • IPhones creating logs on Enterprise 2003 server - cannot connect issues

    A couple of us have iPhones/iPads that we've connected to our work server for email. For the most part, we've been quite successful in retrieving and sending mail. However, about once a week, we are unable to connect to the server. Come to find out, our iPhones place a whole bunch of huge log files on our server and effectively shut down our access when it fills up. It actually shuts down our SMTP server for everyone, not just the iPhone users. Our admin goes in and deletes the huge log files and access is restored. My question is this... is there any way to keep our iPhones from sending these log files to the server?
    Message was edited by: ajsmom514

    Firewall-related problems normally throw ORA-12535, not ORA-12170 (the message a timeout occurred is the same). Description for this error is:
    Error:     ORA-12170 (ORA-12170)
    Text:     TNS:Connect timeout occurred
    Cause:     The server shut down because connection establishment with a
         client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This
         may be a result of network/system delays; or this may indicate
         that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service
         attack on the server.
    Action:     If the error occurred because of a slow network/system,
         reconfigure the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in
         sqlnet.ora to a larger value. If a malicious client is suspected,
         use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict
         access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can
         be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
    Hostname in listener.ora has a domain included, while in tnsnames.ora has not. Y Can you ping the host? Does tnsping work? To get more detailed informations you may turn on tracing on the client side (in sqlnet.ora) and the server sid (in listener.ora).

  • Can I use SQLite as a server-side Database?

    In a web based iphone application can we use SQLite as the database which will handle tens of millions of records without failing at the server side?
    Or else what will be better for that purpose?
    Thanks in advance,
    Satya.

    Nice to see u again my friend.
    I have one doubt. I feel like SQLite is an embedded database for iPhone/iPad/iPod devices. And my requirement is something that I want to use the database to be stored and maintained at the server-side as like a day-to-day web-server.
    For example database used for IRCTC or gmail server's database etc. I have certain things to maintain at server-side as like login details(Name, password, location of launching application, Date, time) or something like offers of the month, and to retrieve the details either mails or any other details of the loggedin person with the iPhone from any location as we do with our system to access the mail accounts from server.
    The server's database should bear loads for more than millions of users logging in.
    Will SQLite handle such a thing. or I have to use something like MySql or Oracle?
    Which will be best for that reason(ofcourse with a minimal of cost)?

  • HTTP SERVICE - How to get the value of my params on the server side

    I am new to flex and with the url limitation i was trying to
    do the following ....send a bunch of ids... using params variable
    var myservice:HTTPService = new HTTPService();
    myservice.url = url;
    myservice.method = "POST";
    myservice.resultFormat = "e4x";
    myservice.send(params);
    The question is how do i get the value i passed on using
    params on the server side? can the variable params be a string or
    array or does it have to be object type?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Most server side languages have a function or an array where
    you extract the variables. in PHP they arrive in global arrays
    called $_POST and $_GET.
    Other languages have methods like request.formvars or
    request.query. Check your serverside language on how that is
    done.
