Service Light for Samsung Stratosphere

Dear Verizon,
I know this is a trivial matter, but I am curious.  I've had my Strat for almost a year and I do love it.  It is missing one thing though that bugs me. Way back I had a Motorola StarTac (one of he greatest phones ever) and it had a service light that was green when you had service, red when no service, and yellow-orange for an incoming call-message. I notice now that some phones have them and some don't. I have downloaded NOLed which is great, but I miss the light on all the time.  I am older and it helps me see where my phone is in the dark. Since this is a Samsung thing, I'm sure VZW can't update or correct it. Does Verizon have any comparable phones that do have have lights, (someone makes them, I have seen others people with them) ? I will be upgrading next year and wonder if you have something to offer.  Again, I know it sounds a bit petty, but it's the little things that make life enjoyable !   If only I could update my
StarTac !  (yes I STILL have it !) thank you, mike

Good morning and happy Sunday almodn525,
I too share the same love and passion for the Motorola Startac. I’m super impressed that you still have yours. I would definitely suggest keeping it as it is a collector’s item. As you can see, cell phones have came a long way over the years. While I’m glad that you are happy with your Stratosphere, many new devices do not have the blinking LED feature that you so desire. I don't want the lack of this feature to  bug any more than it already has. Since I don’t know any devices that do have off the top of my head, I would encourage you to visit your local Verizon Wireless retail store and test the many smartphones that we have on display. If you are able to find a device with this feature as well as others for you to enjoy then I would love to hear about it from you. If you have any additional questions or concerns then we are here to assist. I’m looking forward to reading what device that you will decide on. Happy shopping.
Thank you…

Recently got a Samsung Stratosphere but the smiley faces are pretty pathetic.  Does anyone know if the emoji smileys can be downloaded to this phone?  Or if there are free smiley downloads for this phone?  Thanks.

  • Service Light for Treo 750

    Hello,
I have a 750 with T-Mobile.  The Service light does not blink when I am connected like other treo models do.  Is there a way to turn this on?  I miss that little green light
    Thanks!
Post relates to: Treo 750 (Cingular)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

My belief is that Palm turned it off on Treo models after Treo 650 because people found the light annoying in some circumstances - e.g. in a dark bedroom - you got the feeling you were in an airport. There were a few hacks to turn off the light on those older Treos. Not having the flash also saves your phone a bunch of power - each time that LED comes on, you lose a little talk or standby time.

  • TXT Msg char size  for Samsung Stratosphere

I haven't seen any updates on this subject since the middle of 2011.  Has anything changed that allows you to increase the char size for TXT msgs?
The phone provides that option for mail but I don't see any way to do it for txting.

Ann154 is right.  You can't change just the messaging font.  The only way to change the messaging font is to change the font for all the phone's functions and screens.

  • Samsung Stratosphere keyboard questions

    People,
Is anyone familiar with the Samsung Stratosphere phone? This is my first Android smartphone and I've run into a few problems. Is there a "enter" key on the keyboard? one isn't marked and my phone came with the wrong users manual, plus Verizon doesn't have a users manual posted on any of their pages either. Also, is there a way to go forward, or undo the back button, from the keyboard? Will a stylus work on these Androids, fat fingers suck.
Browser, how do you bookmark a page on one of these? list of favorites? will these phones accept .pdf's or .docx files in through the data port? I hope there is probably a word.docx reader app somewhere? I cant find it. am having trouble with the Sims card as well, is there some set-up step or is there some procedure to unlock it, unblock it, activate it or something
To be able to use the Cloud player so many people offer, is that feature limited to the ability to use WiFi? I understand that the cloud service is an online storage for things like music and or movies, what else can be stored online? I can'f find allot of info about this Cloud service.
I would appreciate even a partial answer to only one question, if anyone feels like responding, but I assume "chat" will be manned come monday and that should answer my questions? I think! thanks again

  • Samsung stratosphere shuts off?

I have been having some recent problems with my stratosphere phone.  If I open/close the keyboard it will randomly shut the phone off.  Thats not too bad, as I don't use the slide out keyboard ever.  The real problem and the cause of my frustration is everytime I plug in my phone to the charger, it shuts down the phone and drains the battery to 0%.  It doesn't matter if I have 10% or 100% battery left, it will shut it down and drain it.  Very frustrating.  Anybody else experience this?
I couldn't find a board just for the stratosphere to ask this question, so I assume that samsung doesn't even make the phone anymore?

Having the same problem with my wifes new replacement phone and my existing phone - both Stratospheres.  If I tap on the screen the phone shuts-off.  Something is shorting out the phone or  It feels like a service issue from the firmware - with the touch screen service.  Now every time I open close the keypad it shuts off. Looks like the flex cable from the slide out keypad. Strange they sent my wife a replacement phone with the same issue.

  • Samsung Stratosphere - Lemon

My daughter got a Samsung Stratosphere, it gave her nothing but problems, losing it's charge, not staying charged, locking up, etc. She had it replaced twice and it was driving her nuts. On the last reconditioned one I took it instead of having to deal with it. I had to replace it 3 times and it still locks up, about one out of ten calls it will flash a screen not allowing me to answer, it will not stay charged and I have to keep it on a charger most of the day. It has been taken in to the Verizon center many, many times. They have been good to deal with and most of the time been able to get it up and going again. The most valuable thing they showed me was taking the battery out to reboot it, I have to do this at least once a week. If one does a search on the internet anyone can see this model phone has been dog from the word go. The only explanation I can get on getting a different model (I have never had issues with a cell phone until this piece of junk, either has my daughter) is that that is against Verizon's policy. This week I have had to pull the battery 2 different times, I am fed up! ATT is looking better everyday, we have stayed with Verizon just due to service, certainly not price. Is it worth losing a customer by making them keep a lousy phone and it is just not my particular phone, it obviously was all the Samsung Stratospheres?
    Edited to start new discussion.

I'm not sure if there's a setting for this in the stock e-mail app. There might be in a more advanced e-mail app; someone here who uses K-9 mail might be able to chime in on that.
Another approach would be to password-protect the whole phone, so that random people would not be able to access anything on it. From the Home screen do Menu > Settings > Location & security > Screen unlock settings. You can set a PIN, password, or drawing pattern to unlock the phone. But BE CAREFUL if you do this -- there have been several posts here from people who've set this and then promptly forgotten what it was. The outcome is not pretty.

  • Samsung Stratosphere extended battery

Verizon currently has the extended battery for the Stratosphere on sale at 50% off ($24.99 instead of $49.99) online and at local Verizon corporate stores (call the store before you go, though). There are informative discussions about it here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-stratosphere/145059-extended-battery.html and here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9064-standard-vs-extended-battery-updated-1262011-920-pm-cst/.
There are pros and cons to this battery. The biggest, pro, of course, would be longer battery life. It's a 3000 mAh battery, compared to the stock 1800 mAh. I only got mine today, and it came with about a 40% charge, so I can't comment on how long it lasts yet personally. The second of the two links above has some discussion on that.
The major con is that it is twice as thick as the stock battery, and of course heavier as well. This means that the stock battery cover will not fit, so Verizon throws in a new, customized back cover when you buy the extended battery. The whole phone thus becomes thicker, which then means that standard-size cases, holsters, dashboard mounts, desktop dock, etc., won't fit either (at least, that is the report that I've seen).
However, when I bought the battery at a Verizon store, I asked about cases (I don't use one now, but I might want to), and they did have one available that was made for the larger form factor with the extended battery. I wonder if maybe more will become available as more people buy the battery.
My findings so far: At this price, I think it's a great, great buy if your use of the phone is such that you need an extended-life battery. It definitely changes the feel of the phone. It adds some weight and bulk; but IMHO this wasn't a light phone to begin with. I think it fits my hand better with the extended battery, but of course that's going to vary from one person to another. I also think it makes the physical keyboard more solid and stable for typing, which is a definite improvement. Unless you're a riverboat gambler type, though, I'd recommend buying at a store rather than online, so you can get the feel of it before you put your money down.
I'll report on battery life experience after I charge it up tonight and use it over the next day or two. Has anyone else tried out this battery?

A follow-up report on battery life with the Samsung Stratosphere extended battery: I charged it to 100% as of about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. It is now 8:30 a.m. Friday, 58 hours later, and the charge stands at 12%, low enough to get warnings from the phone to charge it, which I'm going to do.
Obviously this includes two overnights when I was not using the phone at all. I don't do any game playing or very much music streaming (and no video streaming during this particular time period). OTOH, I do leave the Bluetooth and GPS turned on all the time, even overnight, just to avoid having to remember turning them on when I go out. I do spend a fair amount of time on Wikipedia and other Web browsing, a newspaper-reading app, and Google maps. The phone requested to go into power-saving mode when the battery reached 20% earlier this morning, but I declined that for the sake of the testing.
Of course everyone's phone use and experience will be different, but 58 hours to go from 100% to 12% seems pretty good to me.

  • Samsung Stratosphere turning itself off and on

All of a sudden, my Stratosphere is caught in this loop of turning itself off (despite holding a full charge) and then trying to turn itself back on. For the last several hours, the screen has been alternating between black and black with the word "Samsung" on it. If I force the issue and hold the power button down for a few seconds, the phone will boot up fully, but then it'll either turn itself back off immediately or let me use it for a couple of minutes before turning itself off.
My first thought was that it might be the battery, but I'm not keen on buying a new one just to find out that it's actually an issue with the phone itself. Does this sound like anything that anyone else has gone through?

    SW9-
Unfortunately, this sounds like something I have gone through way too many times with my Stratosphere. I have lost count of how many replacements I have had to get because of this. If it starts working after the Hard Reset (mine did not but yours might work??), you will notice that the phone eventually will stop holding a charge.
I suggest trying anything you can to get a new device as there are many discussions on the Verizon Customer Service website that are about the Samsung Stratosphere; if you search around, you will be able to see all of the fun issues that the device has. Good luck!

  • How do you select multiple messages/conversations on SMS/MMS to forward or save to memory card on Samsung Stratosphere?

How do you select multiple messages/conversations on SMS/MMS to forward or save to memory card on Samsung Stratosphere?
My screen is cracked and I need to replace my phone and I don't see a way of selecting multiple messages or even conversations one at a time to forward them to email or to save them to a memory card.  I can delete thread but can't forward it or move it.  Is there a setting somewhere that will move the storage location for messages to the memory card instead of internal?
If not, any suggestions on backup apps?  I have heard of Txtract to back up SMS and MMS messages, and Titanium Backup to back up everything (SMS, MMS, apps, app data...).  Anyone have any experience with those, or other suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Why won't my Samsung Stratosphere Charge??

I've had a Samsung Stratosphere since late July of 2012. For the most part it hasn't given me any problems. However for the past 3 days the phone has had problems charging. Last night it finally died while I was sleeping, I tried to charge it again, but it wouldn't even stay on. I took out the battery for a few hours, put it back in and then charged it with the phone off. It charged all the way to 100% after 2 or 3 hours.I turned it on to see if there was any positive change and the battery went back to 50%. When I turned it off again for it to charge again it was noticeably less than 50%. Does anyone know how to help me with this problem?

i have experienced this on multiple android handsets that i have, and it is not limited to just the stratosphere. in my experience i've found that:
    1) the charging usb cable was at fault, eventhough i was able to get a charging state and a usb connectivity state. i swapped it out from a cheap one i bought from fry's and my charging issues went away.
    2) you can try discharging the battery all the way down until it depletes. you need a fully and completely discharged battery. ( keep powering it on until it can no longer power on after it discharges)
      a) charge the battery with the phone off. I have found that a complete discharge of a battery has helped resolved my issues in the past.
      b) *for rooted users only* reset battery stats through Clockwork, or use Battery Calibration via Google Play.

  • Bluetooth disconnecting on Samsung Stratosphere?

    Hello all!
I have a Samsung Stratosphere, and I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro + Bluetooth headset with it.  I have been having trouble with the phone not connecting to the headset if it has been idle for a while, and I have even had the Bluetooth disconnect in the middle of a call.  It will NOT re-establish the Bluetooth connection unless I totally restart the phone--something I obviously don't want to do in the middle of a call.
Has anyone else had this issue?  Any suggestions for me?
    I'd appreciate any help!
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi SouthParkSteve,
I feel your pain; I use my phone all day and I depend on my Bluetooth headset for hours. I can just imagine the inconvenience of having to power off and on to reestablish connection constantly. I checked my resources and I learned that the Samsung Stratosphere is not listed as a fully compatible device for the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and while most Bluetooth devices will have some connectivity for using the same Bluetooth technology, please note that connectivity is not guaranteed for device not listed as fully compatible. Please confirm this compatibility information at this LINK as the only Samsung mobile devices fully compatible with your headset on our network are the Omnia II & Continuum as per the Plantronics website.
To avoid compatibility issues in the future and be able to take full advantage of your devices' Bluetooth features going forward I recommend confirming compatibility of your devices before purchasing.

  • LIGHT FOR MENU, HOME & BACK KEYS ON A1 ?

How do you turn on the light for the bezel mounted function keys ?   I don’t need them to light up AFTER I guess at their location and pushed one, but I need to know where  (see) the one I need before I push it! What a crazy default factory design the A1 has for this.
Anyone know how to turn the light on for these keys?
Acer, Samsung and others have lit function keys that stay on. Now that makes sense.
I ordered some stick-on Braille dots so that at least I hope I will be able to feel the button locations even if I can’t see them. But there must be a better solution?

There is no way to turn on the lights. Poor design by Lenovo. Hopefully a system update at some point will give us a software switch, but for now it's hunt for it.
