Service Start Issues

I'm experiencing some "finicky" behavior with the CF
Application Server. I recently (about 2 weeks ago) reformatted my
laptop and repartitioned my drive. I'm currently running XP Pro
with 512 ram. I have reinstalled CFMX7 and have it running as my
web server (no IIS currently).
If the startup type for the CF Application Server service is
set to automatic, when I boot my laptop it will start the
jrunsvc.exe process, start a jrun.exe process, and then "hang". By
"hang" I mean the jrun.exe process will climb to 99% processor
usage and stay there indefinitely. When this happens the CF App
Server never starts successfully. Kill process does not seem to
work, and the only resolution I've found is to reboot my machine.
If I set the startup type to manual, the service does not
start with my machine when it boots. If I open my services snap in
immediately after I log into the machine, I can start the
service, jrunsvc.exe runs, jrun.exe runs, the jrun.exe bounces
between 40 and 70% processor usage for a minute or so, the jrun.exe
grows to about 50k in memory usage, and then the jrun.exe processor
usage drops back to 0 - 5% and things work like a charm. This only
occurs if I start the CF App Server
immediately after I log into my machine.
If I have been working on my machine for a while when I
attempt to start the CF App Server from the services snap in (with
or without programs running at the time), it exhibits identical
behavior to what it does when I have the service set to automatic.
I get jrunsvc.exe, a jrun.exe instance, and then the jrun.exe jumps
to 99% and sits there indefinitely. Again, kill process on the
jrun.exe doesn't work, the service never starts, and I'm forced to
reboot to reclaim my processor.
As you can imagine, this is highly frustrating. If someone
has encountered this, or can point me in the direction of a
solution, that'd be great. Thanks,
--Daniel

When you start it from the command line, unfortunately there
is now way to eliminate DOS window. It has to be there, otherwise
process will be killed.
Once you start CF from the command line, do you see anything?
It is supposed to show everything that happens on the server, any
exceptions and things like that.
Another idea here would be to enable JRun metrics and see
what happens memory-wise and thread-wise. Based on your description
it does not look like there are many people who are accessing your
machine, so I wonder what we will see in JRun metrics. If you'd
like to do that, check the following technote
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19120.
If you have standalone install (which looks like you do) make sure
you check the note on the bottom of that technote.
After you have metrics enabled and CF restarted, they will be
stored in your coldfusion-event.log file under
C:/CFusionMX7/runtime/logs directory.

  • Analysis Services started and then stopped, Event ID: 0xC1210000

    I just installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and SP1 and SP2. I cannot start Analysis Services.  The message box states: The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped.     I looked in the log files located at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Log and found these entries:
    msmdsrv.log:

    During installation I did get an unhandled exception (I don't know what component caused the exception). I have found this in the SQLDUMPER_ERRORLOG.log file:
    06/14/07 17:39:38, ERROR ,               msmdsrv.exe, Unable to open file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\FlightRecorderCurrent.trc, error 2
    06/14/07 17:39:38, ACTION,               msmdsrv.exe, Watson Invoke: No
    Any ideas how to get this service started?

    Does anyone have any idea on this problem?  My installation of SQL Server Analysis Services worked fine.  I now have the same error as Lucy.  This happened after no upgrading of SQLSERVER.  It must have issues with security patches on the OS, or maybe service packs for Visual Studio (2005).  And no reinstallation of the patch is not the answer (or rebooting).
    The service times out and tells me to check the logs.  The msmdsrv.log file indicates any unhandled exception -
    Message: The service cannot be started: Internal error: An unexpected exception occured. (Source: \\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\OLAP\Log\msmdsrv.log, Type: 3, Category: 289, Event ID: 0xC1210000)

    Message:  (Source: \\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\OLAP\Log\msmdsrv.log, Type: 3, Category: 256, Event ID: 0xC1000016)
    I have tried reinstalling, changed users for the service, changes instance names.  The logging tells me nothing, except there is a big problem.
    I even installed the SQL Server SP2 hoping to fix whatever the problem was.  Now I also have SSIS throwing an exception and wanting to attach a debugger to it on top of my original problem. After reading about all of the problems with SQL Server SP2, I think I created a bigger monster.  Uninstalling leaves around all kind of files, registry entries, and program numbers.
    Thanks for ANY hints to proceed.

  • SCEP Service started without any malware protection engine; AV signatures out of date; AS signatures out of date

    Our new pooled VDI collection reports the following errors in SCCM 2012 R2 regarding SCEP:
    Service started without any malware protection engine; AV signatures out of date; AS signatures out of date
    The Windows Update service is disabled and it is by design when we create a new collection, althought the service is enabled on the master template.
    SCEP is not up-to-date, real-time protection is off, and this is causing us compliances issues.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    How do you set the SCEP to get definition updates?
    The following blog might help.

    Hi,
    The WMI Performance Adapter (wmiApSrv) service provides performance library information from Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) providers to clients on the network. This service only runs when Performance Data Helper is activated.
    This service is installed by default and its startup type is Manual. When started in the default configuration it will log on using the Local System account.
    You can try troubleshooting the issue using Clean Boot to check if the issue is related to third-party software.

  • Service start/stop

    I am trying out service start/stop between different JVMs but am not seeing what I expected. I have attached a quickly written test program to try out a scenario.
    1. Run the attached program (java Test -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=servicetest.xml) in 2 JVMs. Let's call them JVM1 and JVM2.
    2. At the JVM1 command prompt, type: startservice
    3. At the JVM1 command prompt, type: startcache
    4. At the JVM1 command prompt, type "i" six times. This should insert 6 items into the cache.
    5. At the JVM1 command prompt, type "c". Following is what is displayed:
    key=4, value=4
    key=3, value=3
    key=2, value=2
    key=1, value=1
    key=5, value=5
    key=6, value=6
    6. At the JVM2 command prompt, type: startservice
    7. At the JVM2 command prompt, type: startcache
    8. At the JVM2 command prompt, type "c". The six cache items are displayed.
    9. At the JVM1 command prompt, type "stopservice". The expectation is that the service on JVM1 is stopped and the cache items on JVM1 are transferred to JVM2.
    10. At the JVM2 command prompt, type "c". The following is displayed:
    key=4, value=4
    key=3, value=3
    key=1, value=1
    key=6, value=6
    Cache items 2 and 5 have disappeared. Why?
    Thanks

    Following is javadoc for the Controllable.shutdown( ) method:
    Stop the controllable service. This is a controlled shut-down, and is preferred to the stop() method.
    <b>This method should only be called once per the life cycle of the controllable service</b>. Calling this method for a service that has already stopped has no effect.
    I might need to expand and shrink the horizontal span of the cache multiple times without having to shutdown the JVM, which means I might need to shutdown the service multiple times, but the javadoc says I can't call shutdown more than once. Is there a different way to perform an orderly service stop?
    Thanks

  • Monitor all service Start with the word "SAP"

    Hallo
    i have sccm 2012
    Can monitor services start with the word "SAP"
    Instead of monitoring all service set separately .
    thanks

    Hi,
    Did some research and came to the following solution
    Open the System Center Operations Manager Console.
    Go to Authoring and expand Management Pack Templates
    Right Click Windows Service and click Add Monitoring Wizard
    On the Monitoring Type page select Windows Service and click Next
    Give the Service and store the it in a New Created Management Pack and click Next
    On the Service Name Type SAP* on the Target group Select Windows Server Computer Group and click Next
    On the Performance Data page click Next
    On the Summary page click Create
    Export the Management Pack pack you created
    In the Management pack replace the following code:
    <DataSource ID="DS" TypeID="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Win32ServiceInformationProviderWithClassSnapshotDataMapper">
    <ComputerName>$Target/Property[Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Computer"]/NetworkName$</ComputerName>
    <ServiceName>sap*</ServiceName>
    <Frequency>60</Frequency>
    With the following code
    <DataSource ID="DS" TypeID="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.WmiProviderWithClassSnapshotDataMapper">
    <NameSpace>root\cimv2</NameSpace>
    <Query>select * from win32_service where name like 'sap%'</Query>
    <Frequency>60</Frequency>
    Second replace
    <Value>$Data/Property[@Name='BinaryPathName']$</Value>
    With
    <Value>$Data/Property[@Name='PathName']$</Value>
    Save the management pack and upload it to System Center Operations Manager.
    In the Operations Console Click Monitoring
    Click Discoverd Inventory and change the target type to the target you created. Then the view should look something like this:
    I created the management pack You can download it from here: http://www.ms-opsmgr.eu/wp-content/uploads/Download/2015/SAP/SAP.Services.xml

    At first we tried to restart the service, but the problem persisted. Then we tried to restart the server, but this didn't help neither.
    Finally, we noticed that when you launch the service start (by using the oracle provided .bat files), while the service is starting, an ESSSVR.exe process shows up in the task manager, but once the service is started, the ESSSVER.exe process crashes and disappears from the task manager.
    What can be wrong?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    G.Sanchez

    Thank you, John.
    Looking at the OPMN logs, I can see the following the problem started after a scheduled service restart. Prior to it and up to 11-20-2012 at 4:00 AM, everything was fine. When the service was automatically restarted at 4:40 AM after perfoming an automated back up (which is performed daily), the logs started to show errors and warnings. I pasted them here --maybe you can give me some ideas:

  • How to call external processes before & after WL services start/stop

    I set up WL Admin Server and Managed Server to run as Windows services.
    I have the code to retire/re-activate in an ANT script and right now, I execute it via the command line.
    Here's my question
    I want to retire a SOA composite BEFORE my Managed Server Windows service stops and re-activate it AFTER the Window service starts up.
    Do you know how to do that? Or if you have other suggestions, please let me know
    Thanks
    I'm using 11.1.1.2

    I want to retire a SOA composite BEFORE my Managed Server Windows service stops and re-activate it AFTER the Window service starts up.
    This means you need to check for the ManagedServer is in RUNNING state right?
    in WLST you can get State of a given Managed Server with getState() method. write a WLST invoke method in ANT and try.

  • Changing service start (as NOT delayed) setting permanently

    Hi,
    i have MS Outlook in autostart but observed that the search functionality is not fully initialized.
    This is because the Windows Search service being started delayed (if Outlook is closed and started again everything works as expected).
    Changing the start mode to "automatic" (and NOT delayed) this works for the next boot but is obviously automatically reset to "automatic (delayed)", probably by the Lenovo "Enhanced Experience", some group policy or whatever.
    Does anybody know where i might permanently change the service start mode?
    (System: Lenovo T520 4242W18 with Win7 64bit).
    Best regards
    Stefan

    Try a free software call soluto at http://www.filehippo.com/download_soluto/, you can set some processes to start/delay. If you can't delay some process, at least you can delay the outlook from autostarting till everyother stuff is started (ie after window search engine).

  • OBIEE 10.1.3.2 version : 404 error when presentation services started

    Hi ,
    Installed OBIEE 10.1.3.2 in windows 7 in compatilibily mode
    And the BI server and presentation services started.
    then started the ocj4 instance and then started the presentation services but it resulted in a 404 error webpage instead of answers.
    Page referred is :
    http://user-pc:9704/analytics
    Normally its a localhost is what I see but this is different.
    Please guide me in identifying what went wrong
    Thanks,
    Karthik M

    I have the identical error message.
    It is definitely a bug. If anyone can prove me wrong, I'd be interested to hear.
    It comes up under certain scenarios.
    I have four metrics:
    "Sales" from sales table. Normal Summing Aggregation.
    "Markdown" from markdown table. Normal Summing Aggregation.
    "Test Metric" from inventory table. Normal Summing Aggregation.
    "Stock on Hand" from inventory table. Dimensional summing. LAST for time. Sum for all Other dimensions. (You don't add up the stock on hand for each day during the month, you look at your final position)
    I can do anything with the first three metrics and never see the error message.
    If I try to create a report:
    Product, Time, Stock on Hand, Sales, Markdown
    Then I see the error message.
    I can force the error to disapear by doing either of the following:
    A) If I move the Stock on Hand to the right so the report is:
    Product, Time, Sales, Markdown, Stock on Hand
    B) If I put "Test metric" anywhere on the report, then I no longer see the error message.
    There is a bug with the LAST aggregation function. I think the LAST time function would be a similiar sort of logic to YTD, AGO, etc... as noted above.
    Given from what I've seen, the only temporary workaround seems to be to add an extra metric to the report or to move certain metrics to the right side.

  • User Profiles Synch Service starting failes after "ILM Configuration: Starting services"

    So, what I have and what I've done:.
    1) I have a test 2-servers farm installation (Database server + WFE/Application server); SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2, SHP 2010 SP1 + October 2012 CU; There are no any service applications except default ones(Security Token Service and Application Discovery
    and Load Balancer Service Application) as well as there are  no any services started except default :)
    2) I created a site collection and manage path for MySites, created a new UPA and its proxy.
    That's all. Now, if I try starting User Profiles Synchronization Service, it stucks on "starting" for about 10 mins and I see the error above in ULS. Hope you can somehow help me.
    By the way, I don't want a both sides synchronization this time, I just need to check some stuff with People Search. Will "Read" rights for Managed Account in AD be enough to export profiles from AD? (I mean if I select my farm account as a synchronization
    account, will it work?)
    Thank's in advance!
    Anton.
    UPDATED
    The problem probably was due to the lack of internet access. As Raymond
    Diack said:
    "the farm account needs internet access to do a CRL check to these sites:
    crl.microsoft.com
    ctldl.windowsupdate.com
    ctldl.windowsupdate.nsatc.net
    www.update.microsoft.com.nsatc.net "

    Sure, here is the stack near the error without any filters:
