Session problem: req.getSession(false) always attempt set a session cookie.

I am having a problem with getSession(false) method. For some reasone
when I do this:
doGet(.....){
HttpSession tmpsession = req.getSession(false);
RequestDispatcher dpatch =
this.getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/welcome.jsp");
dpatch.forward(req, res);
Even if tmpsession is null, my web browser tells me that the servlet is
trying to set a cookie. But the problem is that if I do accept the
cookie, next time I tried to access the same page, the servlet thinks
that there is already a session.
Has anyone seen this problem?

Weblogic can be configured to automatically create a session. Check your properties file
for the value of weblogic.httpd.session.enable. If set to true, a session will be
automatically created for the user.

• Httprequest.getSession(false) creating a NEW Session

I am working on a web application which uses STRUTS. All the client requests are directed to loginaction class.
Any resource in the application, is accessed thru the action class.
Overview: In the action class, i am checking if there is any session associated with the new user using
session = request.getSession(false);
if (session != null) {
if (session.isNew()) {
logger.info("New Session Created [" + session.getId() + "]");
} else {
logger.info("Session EXIST'S ["+ session.getId()
+ "], Retreiving user from session");
}According to the Servlets 2.2 API:
public HttpSession getSession(boolean create) Returns the current HttpSession associated with this request or, if if there is no current session and create is true, returns a new session.
If create is false and the request has no valid HttpSession, this method returns null.
if (session.isNew()) ,
this if statement should return false and be skipped, as session = request.getSession(false);wont create a new session. When i parse the logs, I see the log statement, "New Session Created ". Which makes me wonder, that a new session is being created
Problem: When i debug, i see that container is creating a new session if the session doesnt exist. According to API mentioned above, it should not create a new session. It should return null.
Did anyone had a similar issue? While researching i found this article that using struts, the container creates a default session.
I found this article: http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=21643
Environment: IDE:WSAD5.1, Appserver:Websphere, Browser:IE 6.0, Struts, JSP, JSTL

Hi,
We have two appliactions. Our application say B is uses authentication mechanism provided by say A.
So the user, is presented a login page by application A. Once they are authenticated, without the knowledge of user, its being forwarded to our application say B.
Once he is in our application, he can navigate in our application, say,
he goes from page1 to page2. page1 is the main page. Now browser caching is enabled. When he hits the back button to access page1, browser is sending a new request to our applicaiton insted of furnising form local cache( this is another issue). Even though a new request is sent, all the requests are routed thru a struts controller action class. Now in the action class, we check if its a new session or not.
request.getSession(false). Since the user is an old user, it shouldnt create any new session.
As per your suggestion, where should i put the directive in the jsp to not to create a default session?. In page1 which is the main page?.
How should i implemnt the session listener interface. Do u have any templates or code snippets?.
Any suggestions?

• Sessions problem when deploying to AS 10g (10.1.2.0.2)

Hello,
I have a very simple Web Application where I have isolated an issue I have found. The application works fine when executed in JDeveloper 10g (10.1.2.2) but it does not work when deployed in the AS 10g (10.1.2.0.2). My Platform is Windows XP Professional x64.
The application has been created in JDeveloper (New >> Web Project) and contains:
- a simple jsp page (main.jsp) displaying a dummy message,
- a simple filter class (authFilter.java) which only has the following code in the doFilter method:
HttpServletRequest hreq = (HttpServletRequest)request;
System.out.println("*** session id = " + hreq.getSession().getId());
System.out.println("*** requested session id = " + hreq.getRequestedSessionId());
- a web deployment descriptor (web.xml) where the reference to the filter has been added:
<filter>
<filter-name>Filter1</filter-name>
<filter-class>myfilters.authFilter</filter-class>
</filter>
<filter-mapping>
<filter-name>Filter1</filter-name>
<url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
</filter-mapping>
When running this inside JDeveloper, the output is the following:
08/12/09 17:54:03 *** session id = ac1663b9231c2936edded7df423f9161c223ee0d4246
08/12/09 17:54:03 *** requested session id = null
08/12/09 17:54:08 *** session id = ac1663b9231c2936edded7df423f9161c223ee0d4246
08/12/09 17:54:08 *** requested session id = ac1663b9231c2936edded7df423f9161c223ee0d4246
08/12/09 17:54:10 *** session id = ac1663b9231c2936edded7df423f9161c223ee0d4246
08/12/09 17:54:10 *** requested session id = ac1663b9231c2936edded7df423f9161c223ee0d4246
Each time I reload the page in the browser I get two messages where the session id and the requested session id are equal and the same.
However, when running the application inside the AS, the output is the following (taken from the opmn/logs/OC4J~my_component~default_island~1):
08/12/09 17:56:58 *** session id = ac16322030d6da9410e6348449449a4cf1f0e65956cf
08/12/09 17:56:58 *** requested session id = null
08/12/09 17:57:01 *** session id = ac16322030d6bc42fa22332e41818aa6ece1fd371361
08/12/09 17:57:01 *** requested session id = null
08/12/09 17:57:02 *** session id = ac16322030d60895af4c8cc44aef9ff6e6e3b3fd2e04
08/12/09 17:57:02 *** requested session id = null
That is, each time the page is reloaded, a new session is created.
This problem is actually blocking me since I would like to use the session to store some data used for authentication in the filter (dynamic credentials). As a new session is being created for each access, the data stored in the session is lost and users cannot log on the application.
Thank you in advance,
Jorge.

It couldn't be such difficult.
I have the jar's, the drivers in, the jdbc url connection as

I'm having problems with iPhoto and the facebook set-up. Every time I attempt to do so it says an error has occured and try again later. I have not seen a solution posted. Therefore, how does one contact Apple to solve the problem? I'm new to the world of iMac but I find it a bit frustrating trying to solve basic issues/problems:(

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
Thanks for listening,

• Session problem in one out of two jsp

Dear java guru's
I have got jsp page A.jsp.User select few option and this jsp calls
B.servlet this takes user input and pass to
C.bean which returns vector to B.servlet
This servlet put vector in session and dispatch to new jsp
D.jsp which calls
E.jsp in it for Image generation.
This E.jsp retrieve vector from session and generate a image and reurn to D.jsp
Now my problem is that session in B.servlet and D.jsp are same but a new session in created in E.jsp so image is null as it could get data from vector which is null.
I put System.out.println(session.getId()) in each servlet and jsp so to get thier ID's.
This is working fine in my system with Tomcat 3.2 but on web the new session is created for E.jsp
I am calling E.jsp like this
<img src=<%=response.encodeURL("/iscap/report/jspChart.jsp")%> alt="generation image" width="400" height="350" border="1">
I am making page session=true in each jsp and also puttting request.getSession(false);
but still E.jsp is getting new session.I tried eliminating each one and made all combination that could be possible but not effect.
How Can I solve this problem on the web where I have to load this?
Do I have to make setting in context .

Hi,
If you have been using jspChart v 1.00 :
As shown in the modified , attached PPT :
I will be displaying a bar chart. The length of bar chart is obatined from Sybase database. This chart should be dynamically created depending on the value on
the database and x -axis is exponential.
This will be displayed on a HTML page.
1. I want to know whether,the values can be obtained the values from Sybase database ?
If so, what are the changes.
2. can you tell me the steps to install and run the jspchart v 1.00 on Jrun or any server please.
Any thing else, I need to install like SAX , JCLARK. I am getting errors in this. PL HELP.
3. Is it possible to plot "Exponential values" in the Y-axis. like 0 - 100- 1000 - 10000 - 100000
and the length of the Bar should automaticall be coloured till that Point as shown in the Power point attached.
If not, any suggestions to use any other software.
Thanks in advance.

• Session problem in servlet??

hello,
i have made a simple shopping cart which goes through the
following stage:
1st stage:
// Additions to the shopping cart
HttpSession clientSession = request.getSession( true );
ShoppingCart vBasket = (ShoppingCart)clientSession.getValue("thecart");
if ( vBasket == null ){
System.out.println("NO CART");
vBasket = new ShoppingCart();
clientSession.putValue("thecart", vBasket);
System.out.println("MADE THE CART");
vBasket.add(the_item);
// at this stage, the items are being added to a hashtable
2nd stage:
HttpSession clientSession = request.getSession(false);
System.out.println("GOT THE SESSION");
ShoppingCart vBasket = (ShoppingCart)clientSession.getValue("thecart");
if ( vBasket == null ){
System.out.println("CART HASN'T BEEN MADE!!");
throw new Exception();
// At this stage, the object of the ShoppingCart class still has null value even if in the existing session the ShoppingCart has been made at stage 1. Any idea why this is happening??
thanks
Richard

i believe that if u declare the writer before u get the session you may have problem like yours (happened to me). so make sure to get the session before instantiate your (response)writer.

• Setting the session when link is clicked in JSP

I have a jsp page which recieves a Map from a java class function. It retireves the element from the map and displays it onto the page as a link. Now what I want to do is whenever any link is clicked then I want to put the map in the session. How can I do that in the same page????
I do not want to already set the session becoz that gives me problem later on.

Ok, I understand what you are trying to do now. Unfortunately, I still don't think you have much choice. Essentially you will only ever have 4 ways of persisting the data:
1. In memory on the server (eg Session)
2. On disk on the server (eg database)
3. In memory on the client (eg Applet or maybe Javascript)
4. On disk on the client (eg signed applet writing to local file system)
The "standard" approach is to store all of this sort of stuff on the server, so you have a choice between 1 and 2.
I assume your "Employee" data is in a database or LDAP directory? (or some form of "on disk" persistence), and you are querying this data store to populate the objects in memory?
If so, there is a way you can avoid persisting in memory for a long time, but because you will have to persist "somewhere" you will only have option 2 left.. on disk.
In the code where you initially retrieve the data from the data store for the first JSP, you can put the Map in the HttpServletRequest object rather than the session (request.setAttribute()), then access this in the first JSP to render the list. When you get to the second JSP however, this object will be out of scope and you won't have access to it anymore so you will have to query the datastore again for the specific record (based on an ID passed from the first JSP). So when you hit "back", the first JSP should execute again and requery the entire list again.
This approach "shifts" the load from a memory load to a disk load (and you will also be affected by database performance issues), so you may not solve your performance desires.
Alternatively, if the list of Employees is the same for all users (ie, it is an entire list and not a "filtered" list based on some search criteria), then you could store the list in memory at "application scope". Basically you would just load the Map on application start-up and put it into a static variable somewhere. I suspect this won't meet your needs as typically the list you generate would be based on a specific query (I am guessing here).
All that being said, your concerns about memory usage and performance may be unwarranted. If you do some quick calculations about the memory usage of each Employee object, you may find it is a trivial amount. (Of course you won't be able to tell definatively how much memory it is using, but you may be able to hazard an educated guess). Remember also that things like Strings are "immutable" (never change) and are drawn from a "pool" of Strings. So, if you have two objects which contain the String "Java", they will actually both be using the same bit of memory.
Also, a word of warning: If you choose to maintain your "in memory" model, you may run into concurrency issues. Consider the situation where the initial query generates a list of Employees. The user traverses the list looking at the details of each employee. Meanwhile, another user is changing the details of an Employee on disk, but the first user hasn't looked at the details of this Employee from their list yet. Because the list the first user is viewing is in memory, it won't reflect any alterations made since it was generated. So when the first user views the details of the Employee that the second user altered on disk, they will see the "old" details for that Employee.
So, in summary the only two choices I can think of that are reasonable are:
1. Keep things the same but don't destroy the Map in the session so the first page always has it, and suffer the memory issues. (remembering the warning above)
2. Limit the scope of the data to the "request" only, and re-query every time. This will have poorer performance from a "response-time" perspective but avoids concurrency issues.
My recommendation:
If the list is "small" (sub 100 items), and you don't care about the risk of viewing "old" data, keep it in the Session. If the list is too big, perhaps you could look at only storing the first X number or records in the session and only displaying the first X number of records in the first JSP (like a search engine does)
If the list is big, and/or you DO care about viewing old data, maintain the persistence on disk. If you choose this option, performance can be enhanced by using connection pools, stored procedures etc.
At the end of the day, memory will only cause a performance issue if you "run out". Maybe the solution is to simply add more memory to the server?
Hope some of this helps.

• How can i set the session of a new window?

I am placing in session an object from an action class like this request.getSession().setAttribute("currentBean",orderInfoModel.getDetails()); and i use it into a jsp page to print some informations. The page name is called orders.jsp where i use the object: <jsp:useBean id = "currentBean" scope="session" type="miru.orderInfo.OrderInfoBean"/> on that page i have a button and when i click it it opens me a new window(not a new tab)
the jsp for the new window(scrisoareTransport.jsp) looks like this :
<%@ include file="taglibs.jsp" %>
<%@ page import="database.navigator.Navigator"%>
<jsp:useBean id = "currentBean" scope="session" type="miru.orderInfo.OrderInfoBean"/>

Because IE is starting a new session on new window i need to pass the session and probably the currentBean object from the parent page to the childpage and set the child page session with the one coming from the parent page
Advices?
10x

well, the Gaussian window and the Gaussian Monopulse vis are good starting points, I would start with the window vi, but with a shorter length and add zeros before and after to get the full window with the peak at the desired position.

• Setting a session ID in PL/SQL

Hello
I am currently trying to download the contents of a clob into notepad from Apex. So I have a link like this to call the package on the database:
Download to Notepad And as you can see I am passing in the session id as I want to use the v function to get at some application items. Here is the code for the function:
PROCEDURE download_error_txt(p_session_id IN NUMBER)
IS
v_err_filename               VARCHAR2(1000);
v_err_clob                   CLOB;
v_err_user                   VARCHAR2(100);
BEGIN
--First of all we will get the file name and append error to it.
wwv_flow_api.set_security_group_id(2178813262660915);
APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH.set_session_id(p_session_id);
v_err_filename := v('F157_SPECIES_FILE_NAME');
v_err_filename := SUBSTR(v_err_filename,0,LENGTH(v_err_filename) -4)
|| '_error.txt';
--We will convert all the
tags in the clob to chr10||chr13 to
--force a new line feed in windows.
v_err_clob := V('F157_SPECIES_ERROR');
v_err_clob := REPLACE(v_err_clob, '
', chr(13));
v_err_user := V('APP_USER');
select v('APP_USER') INTO v_err_user from dual;
--Set the MIME type.
OWA_UTIL.MIME_HEADER('text/plain',FALSE);
--Set the name of the file
HTP.p('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'||v_err_filename||'"');
--Close the HTTP header,
OWA_UTIL.HTTP_HEADER_CLOSE;
HTP.p('Below is a detailed list of why the '|| v_err_filename || 'did not upload.');
HTP.p(chr(13));
HTP.p('Paul Test');
HTP.p(chr(13));
HTP.p(v_err_user);
HTP.p(chr(13));
HTP.p(v_err_clob);
END download_error_txt;Now it opens up the notepad fine and displays the values that I have hardcoded but none of the values that the v function returns. As you can see I am using set_session_id in my code but I don't think that is enough.
So thats why I am wondering if I can tell this procedure what apex session it is and get the values from that session.
Cheers,
Paul.

If you use the application process approach like in this example (at the end), you can get the session id within the package using v('APP_SESSION').

• Does replication group have to be set for session replication

I have delployed an servlet based application on a 3 node cluster. I have a simple POJO that I use to carry data in the session from a "confirm?" to "confirmed" page. This object implements serializable and only has String and int members. I put it in session using request.getSession().setAttribute("dto", myobject). For some reason it is not being replicated to the other nodes in the cluster. My weblogic.xml has "PersistentStoreType" set to "replicated_if_clustered". I am not seeing any serialization or other errors in the node logs.
I have looked at information contained in the link below and I think we are doing everything right. http://support.bea.com/application_content/product_portlets/support_patterns/wls/HTTP_Session_Replication_Failures_Pattern.html
The only thing that I noticed is that the "Replication Group" is not set for any of the servers in the cluster. Does this need to be set for replication to happen?

Hi,
Having replication group is optional. It is used only if you are implementing failover in cluster. For session replication one has to generally configure 3 things:
- in memory replication
- jdbc replication
- file sytem replication
for im memory replication,
Step 1:
make sure taht a client is accesing the cluseter using either
- load balancing hardware
- web servers with weblogic proxy plugin
Step 2:
specify the persistance type in weblogic.xml
Thanks,

• Trouble setting the session state of a select item.

Hi,
I have a requirement whereby I need to change the session state of a select list item in my form without the need to submit. I am using Application Express 4.1.0.00.32. I thought this would be straight forward using a dynamic action or javascript and calling an on demand process for example.
P1_MY_SELECT onchange="set_option();"
function set_option() {
var l_option=$f_SelectValue('P1_MY_SELECT');
alert( 'My new value is ' + l_option );
// ON DEMAND Set the new session state value
var lRequest = new apex.ajax.ondemand
('SET_P1_MY_SELECT',function()
{  /* start the return function */
var l_s = p.readyState;
if(l_s == 1||l_s == 2||l_s == 3)
else if(l_s == 4)
{ gReturn = p.responseText;
(gReturn)?json_SetItems(gReturn):null;
else{return false;}
/* end the return function */
lRequest.ajax.addParam('x01', l_option );
lRequest._get()
My on demand application process
DECLARE
l_options varchar2(2000) := wwv_flow.g_x01;
BEGIN
APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('P1_MY_SELECT',l_options);
apex_util.json_from_items('P1_MY_SELECT');
END;
Is there a better method to set the session state of my P1_MY_SELECT other than what I am doing as above or can you tell me why the session state of P1_MY_SELECT is not changed?
Thanks.

if you are on 4.1 why don't you use a dynamic action instead of writing the code again?
create a dynamic action like this
Event: Change
Source Type: Item
Item: P1_MY_SELECT
True Action:
=========
Action: Execute Plsql Code
Plsql Code: null;
Page Items to Submit: P1_MY_SELECT
Page Items to Return: P1_MY_SELECT (this is optional)

• Session problem in jsp application

I face a session problem. I setting everything in a session and when pass back to a main page, the value is not display in the screen. But after refresh the value will display in the screen and this kind of problem only come out very few time and i dun knw how to solve this...
Anyone here can give me some idea and suggestion or the way to solve this kind of problem!!!

define "2 different clients"
1) You have 2 different PCs and it's using the same session ID for both? I doubt this. I think the server is advanced enough not to use give a session ID that's already been created.
2) You have 1 PC and are using IE or Netscape and using File > New Window to open a new window and connect again. This you can't fix without using only URL rewriting to manage session, because the different windows will share the same session cookies.

Hello,
Please avoid any personal information within these forums...they are public, and you have just posted your personal email address for all spammers to troll for and use. Not wise.
Rather, you need to contact your carrier. To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will then have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.
Good luck!

• Adding Set of Session Beans generates client with wrong session bean names

Hi,
I am trying to import a set of session beans deployed on Sun Java Sever 8.2 using Netbeans 6.0. on windows XP.
The problem is that the imported set generated by the IDE has wrong session bean names and out of 8 session beans in the client jar only 6 are shown (and different 6 every time). Also the remote methods of one bean are associated with another bean and every time its a different set of bean clients generated.
I am really perplexed with this behavior. Any help on this issue will be highly appreciated.

An RMI/IIOP parameter type must meet one of thefollowing criteria:
It must be a primitive type, or it must implementeither java.rmi.Remote or java.io.Serializable,
or it must be an interface for which the runtime typesatisfies the previous criteria,
or it must be an array containing elements thatsatisfy the previous criteria.This tells you exactly what you need to do.

The problem was the empty lines and comment in /etc/hostname.
I tried it back and forth and the problem was reproducible by adding the comment and empty lines in /etc/hostname again.
Thank you for helping me with this!
All the best,
Christer
PS:
In the wiki "Editing Configuring Network" I added:
/etc/hostname should not contain comments or empty lines.
