Session state updated but items aren't

Hi guys,
I have some user contact form where you enter the idea then on focusout it calls a process to see if that user already exists.
If the user exists the session state items are set to the relevent values (email, name). If doesn't exist they're set to null.
The session states are changing as desired but the items (text fields) remain empty. Anyone know how to change this from the JS?
JS:
$("#P15_USER").focusout(function() {
var get = new htmldb_Get(null,html_GetElement('pFlowId').value, 'APPLICATION_PROCESS=PULL_DATA',15);
get.add('P15_USER', $("#P15_USER").val());
var results = get.get();
$('#P15_EMAIL').val($v('P15_EMAIL'));
PULL_DATA process:
SELECT COUNT(*) INTO :P_COUNTER FROM password_users
WHERE USERNAME = :P15_USER;
IF :P_COUNTER > 0 THEN
SELECT EMAIL, FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME
INTO :P15_EMAIL, :P15_FIRST_NAME, :P15_LAST_NAME
FROM password_users
WHERE USERNAME = :P15_USER;
ELSE
SELECT NULL, NULL, NULL
INTO :P15_EMAIL, :P15_FIRST_NAME, :P15_LAST_NAME
FROM DUAL;
END IF;

Hi,
Your on demand need "print" return value.
Use e.g. htp.prn. Then you get respond in JavaScript to your "results" variable.
var results = get.get();
$s('P15_EMAIL,result);
BTW, If you are on APEX 4.x your should convert your code to dynamic action.

Jari

• Set Session State with Shuttle items

Is it possible to have session state set with each item selected in a shuttle? You have a shuttle with 4 possible options, you select item 2 from the left portion of shuttle and it is moved to the right.. Can you set the session state at that point?
What I am trying to do is take the session state after change in the control and use it to populate a text field below. The returned values are used in a sql select to populate the text box with a looked up value...
Thank you,

Won't this just push the last items value in, as apposed to appending the value?
Tony,
No. Because for shuttle items the return value is stored as colon delimited string.
Means after each change you will have a colon delimited string in the session state with selected values(moved to right).

• Session state of page item different from one region to another region

hi,
on one particular page I have two regions. A page item (LOV pop-up) is set in the first region. I leave this region with a button and jump back with a branch to the same page. The page item has now the selected value (as is shown by session state window). So far so good.
The second region (SQL query type) uses this page item. However, for some reason the page item is NULL in that second region.
Can anyone explain this behavior ?
ron

thanks Joel,
I did already what you suggested. The title in region 2 is evaluated to the same value as in region 1.
The SQL query (that actually runned with identical syntax before) is:
select bla from blatable where bla = :P920_RU
this generates:
report error:
ORA-12801: error signaled in parallel query server P000
ORA-01741: illegal zero-length identifier
So apperently the bind variable is evaluted to (or cached as) NULL.
I noticed something strange in the session window. There are several page items in the application. All of them are listed in the 'Session State' region. The page item that makes problems is the only one that is also listed in the 'Page Items' region. It is even listed when I start the session window from another page. Weird.
any other ideas ?
Actually, how could you possibly clear session state between rendering two regions ?

• Bootcamp assistant requires OS update but there aren't new updates

My configuration: Intel-iMac, OS 10.5.5, Bootcamp 2.0, EFI firmware 1.3.
If I launch the bootcamp assistant and click the "continue" button then bootcamp asks me to update my OS first.
But the software update in the Apple menu tells me that there aren't any new updates currently.
What can I do to get bootcamp to "continue"?

First thing to do is try repairing permissions, in this case, it might help though usually I don't think it does, but it is something to run before doing any OS updates, and again (yes) after applying patches and updates to OS X (oddly).
Do not run Repair Permissions from DVD or older versions of Leopard.
Might find something in MacIntouch:

• Can I use my javascript to change the session state of an item?

All,
I currently have a page that has two regions: a report and a checkbox region. The checkbox region is full of checkboxes that are tied to each column in the report. I have javascript in the page HTML header that hides/displays the report column when they click the corresponding checkbox. The hiding and displaying columns works just fine.
Here is my problem: my users need to export the report (with some columns hidden) as a CSV file. Unfortunately, the javascript function I use to hide/show the columns does not change the session value of the checkbox region and thus, APEX does not 'know' that some columns have been hidden. Because of this, APEX exports ALL columns.
Can I add an onChange to my javascript that each time the user checks/unchecks a box, it adds/removes that item from the checkbox region's session value?
Thanks!
BoilerUP
P.S. I do not want to submit the page - I would like for this to be done on the fly, just like the columns hiding/appearing with the javascript. Thanks!

Ok, I still cannot get this to work. I keep getting a javascript page error (yellow exclamation icon in I.E.) I have the following code in the HTML header:
I also have the following code in the HTML Form Element Attributes section for the checkbox item:
onclick="html_HideBasedOnCheckBox(this,this.value);set_Some_Item('P2_COLUMN_HIDE_CHECKBOXES',that_string)"Do I need to replace "that_string" with something or is there something else that I'm doing wrong?

• I published my website with updates but they aren't appearing

I have updated the iWeb software to 3.03 and yet no updates seem to make it to my site.

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Also publish the sites to a folder on your hard drive and open them locally with your browser to check for the changes. If the changes are present then the problem lies in the uploading of the files.
If you're using the built in FTP client of iWeb to upload your files then you should try using the free client Cyberduck. This would require you to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and upload the site folder to your server. Many users have found that using CyberDuck was more successful than iWeb's client.

• Update Session State for only one item

I have several hidden items (e.g. fund, object and unit) that hold values that are input parameters for a function that returns a SQL statement to a 'PL/SQL Function Body Returning SQL Query' region. These hidden items are set when a user selects a value from a pop-up tree. I want to dynamically set corresponding visible prompt text items (fund_prompt, object_prompt and unit_prompt) to a descriptive value that makes sense to the user. I've tried using a source type of SQL and placing the following SQL statement in the source
SELECT child_prompt
FROM fr_hierarchy_fund
WHERE child = :FUND;
When the value in one of the hidden items is changed, the visible prompt item displays "undefined" until the page is submitted.
Is there a way to set the session state of an item without submitting the page?
Thanks
David

David,
Items, hidden or not, are not set in session state until the page is submitted. You might consider submitting the page with a javascript event on your popups. The request value can be used to control what processing you do or don't do on page submission and a branch right back to the page should allow you to show everything based on current item values.

Hello,
If I understand you correctly, it seems like your page logic is a bit problematic. The scenario I see is that the user is populating the form part, submiting the page, and the report region is being displayed (as the where clause depends on an item from the form region). Now, the situation you are describing, where the billing information is not correct, is possible if the user changed some of the form items on page 2, didn't submit the page – hence didn't update the report region – but still chose to branch to the next page, using the (non-updated) report link column. If I understand it correctly, you should first correct this situation. If the user is changing some details in the form section, the page should be re-submitted. This will resolve your problem, because as part of the page submit process, session state will be set correctly.
I believe this is the simplest and correct solution. Other options, like updating session state per changed item (using JavaScript) will be much more complicated.

Arie.

• Submitting the value of an item with session state

Hi,
I've a Master / Detail Form on different pages, like master report page no.19, master form page no. 20 and detail form page no. 21. I've created this form using Form, master detail form wizard. I've set deptid as a primary key in master, and foreign key in details table. In page 21, i've set the source for deptid, source used : Always, replacing any existing value in session state, source type : Item (application or page item name), source value : P20_DEPTID. While executing the form deptid is showing the value, but, while submitting of the form, it's not saving in the table. What will be the problem??
Thanks and Regards,
Sudha.

Sudha,
OK.
Go to the pagedefintion in page 20, click on the wordt report (of your master form).
You will get a new screen.
Click on the pencil-icon of your column.
Again a new screen.
Select the six tab (it's called LINK).
Enter item-name and value something like :p21_dept_id and #DEPT_ID#
where P21_dept_id is the item of the form for the dept_id
Hope this helps.

• Application Item values in Session State in APEX 4.2

In 4.2, I am not able to see the session state values of my Application Items if I click "Session" at the bottom of a page. We just migrated from 4.1 and we login to a separate app than where we land upon login. I thought the "Global" scope of the Application Item would allow this to track across apps, but its not working. Is this a known issue?

• Apex bug? Items being cleared in session state - can't figure out why

I have an item that is being submitted with a value but is then being overwritten and set to null. I can't see any reason why the submitted value is being overwritten with null.
I have been debugging this problem for most of the day and can't figure out what is happening and was hoping someone in the forum might be able to shed some light.
Some details:
The item is on Page 0, has source type of "PL/SQL Expression or Function", a source expression of "V('REQUEST')", and Source Used = "Always".
I viewed the HTML source of the rendered page and can see the following HTML, so I know the item has a value when the page is rendered:

I have used Firebug to view the HTTP POST body and can see that p_t08 is being correctly submitted with a value of "EDIT" in the post body.
When I run the page in debug mode and then view the debug log, I see that Apex is indeed setting this item to null:
0.01500     0.01600     A C C E P T: Request="WIZ_NEXT"
0.23400 0.00000 Session State: Save form items and p_arg_values
0.24900     0.01600     ...Session State: Save "BRANCH_TO_PAGE_ID" - saving same value: ""
0.24900     0.00000     ...Session State: Save "ROWS_PER_PAGE" - saving same value: ""
0.26500     0.01500     ...Session State: Save "P0_CLEAR_WS" - saving same value: ""
0.26500     0.00000     ...Session State: Saved Item "RENDER_REQUEST" New Value=""
I can't figure out why the item is being set to null.
This problem also does not occur on every page. The pages in question are a multi-step "wizard" that allows the user to navigate between steps with "Next" and "Previous" buttons. Since this is a page 0 item, it appears on every page in the wizard so I'd expect it to behave the same. When you open the wizard at step 1 and press next to go to step 2, the item (RENDER_REQUEST) is set correctly on step 2 of the wizard, BUT when you then click Next to go to step 3, RENDER_REQUEST is null on step 3. If you open the wizard at step 2 and press Next, RENDER_REQUEST is null on step 3.
I did find a work around, but it doesn't make any sense why it would work: if I move the RENDER_REQUEST item from the "Footer Items" region to a page level item (by using Edit All and setting its region to blank), then the problem goes away. If I move it back to the "Footer Items" region the problem reoccurs.
I am working on Application Express 4.0.2.00.07 on Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this on apex.oracle.com due because the app requires PL/SQL packages to be installed in several schemas, including some that require system grants (I gave a presentation at Oracle Open World a couple of years ago on some of the techniques I used in building this application that you attended; I think the session was called "Building Large Commercial Applications with Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Application Express").
Is there another way we can work together to debug this without reproducing it apex.oracle.com? For example, if you could send me an instrumented version of the APEX_040000.F procedure (or whatever procedure is clearing the session state) that has some additional APEX_APPLICATION.DEBUG calls, I could install it on my server, reproduce the error and send you the output.
Thank you,
Eric

• Item session state during rendering

Hi,
Application Express 4.1.0.00.32
Page process (before heading) sets session state for several items (Text, Always replacing ..., Static Assignment...) but the values are not persistent.
Debug shows:
0.32451     0.00116     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_REC_PP" New Value="15"
0.32567     0.00104     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_TOT_AANT" New Value="1"
0.32671     0.00111     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_CURR_SET" New Value="1"
0.32783     0.00094     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_REC_PP" New Value=""
0.32877     0.00087     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_TOT_AANT" New Value=""
0.32963     0.00060     ...Session State: Saved Item "P1013_CURR_SET" New Value=""
Where is the 'second round' (immediately following the actual setting in page process) on setting session state coming from?
Thanks, Jos

Resolved,
Dropped the items and recreated some new ones (with different names) and now its OK.
The original items were copied from each other and renamed. Maybe this is (still) a bug...

• Session state, again

Hi,
I am still struggling after session state updates.
Here is my problem:
I have a page containing two regions (besides the breadcrumbs):
the first region contains a couple of combo boxes containing "filters" for the chart.
The second region contains a pie chart and the sql expression contains two bind variables referencing the aforementioned filters.
The chart in turn contains links to itself, because the value represented by each slice can be used to split the data into further categories. This is achieved via a hierarchical query representing categories of items, so, for instance, category "Food" is parent of "Beverage" and "Beverage" is parent of "Wines". So when you click on slice "Food", the underlying query returns all the categories belonging to "Food".
Until now I could not figure out a way to handle the browser's back button correctly, because the "recursive" nature of this scenario is messed up by session state, whose values persist beyond the scope of each page.
This situation leads to strange results, where the form fields show the correct data, whilst the chart is drawn on entirely different values. This happens only when navigating backwards or forwards using the browser's back or forward button.
Is there any way to force form values to take precedence over session state values, eventually via javascript, so that the back button returns a meaningful page?
I tried with different approaches but with little success, so I was wondering if you have any known workaround.
Thanks,
Flavio

Hi Francis,
We have used the following code in our page template and it works.
<script>
//Disables the browser back button
javascript:window.history.forward(1);
</script>
And in the "Error Page Template Control" to
<TABLE >
<TR>
<TD valign="TOP"><IMG SRC="&IMAGE_PREFIX.error.gif" width=32 height=32></TD>
<TD valign="CENTER"><font size=+1>#MESSAGE#</font></TD>
</TR>
<TR><TD><A HREF="f?p=&FLOW_ID.:&FLOW_STEP_ID.:&SESSION.::&DEBUG."><IMG SRC="&IMAGE_PREFIX.back.gif" title="Back" alt="Back to previous page" width=32 height=32 border=0></A></TD>
<TD>Back</TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>
<table>
<tr><TD><A HREF="f?p=100:1:&SESSION.::&DEBUG." Title="Click here to go back to Main Menu">Go back Home</A></TD></tr>
</table>
You need to change or add error template because the default functionality of "javascript:window.history.go(-1)" will not work
Hope this helps

• Corrupt Session State? - Apex form posts text value as Null

Recently I've discovered an issue with our Apex installation in which any value chosen as a source for a text field ends up being posted as a null to the database.
We are running APEX version 3.2 within an Oracle 10.2.0.4 database using the Oracle HTTP Server from the 10g companion disk.
At first glance, everything appears to function as expected; I have created a simple table called "oracle_sr" with 2 columns both not null:
SQL> desc capacity.oracle_sr
Name Null? Type
ORACLE_SR_ID NOT NULL NUMBER
TIMESTAMP NOT NULL DATE
Within APEX the form wizard was used to create a form on this table.
After executing the pages and entering a value for the timestamp field I can create records without issue.
The issue arises when I choose a source value for the timestamp field.
Any of the source options result in the same error (including a static value) so I will focus on the SQL Query for the source as:
select sysdate from dual;
This should substitute the system date within the timestamp text field when the page is executed.
As expected, the value appears in the text box but when I submit the form to create the record I receive the error:
ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("CAPACITY"."ORACLE_SR"."TIMESTAMP")
I have been working with APEX for quite some time and have successfully used this technique in many applications but just started to see this error over the past few days. What is particularly odd about this message is that default "not null" validations created by the form wizard sees the timestamp filed as having a value. The session state information included below is reporting a value yet the database is throwing the ORA-01400.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue? I've spent a fair amount of time trying to research this issue but cannot seem to find any similar posts.
I have included the debug output from my test page, from what I can see, there does seem to be a value associated with the timestamp filed:

Thank you,

If you changed the Source Type of an item from Database Column to something else, then it cannot participate in the Automated Row Fetch/Automatic Row Processing (DML) choreography. You should leave the Source Type as it was and change the item's Default Value to populate it when the ARF process fetches a null for the column.
