Set a background using a still image (TIFF)?

Hi, I am trying to use a still image as a background behind the text for visual placement and text effect evaluation. I have seen how to place a video, etc but can't seem to get a still in there. I can create a video from a still but trying to save steps and improve workflow. Thanks.

Can I assume your are attempting to use this image inn FCE HD?
Why not simply place your background image on a track underneath the track with your livetype text in FCE. This way you can adjust the duration of your background image to be anything you like. hope this helps.

  • What PS file settings are used for still images for FCE?

I have images to use/create for the titles and transitions in my first FCE4 project. Using Photoshop CS6, the preset for File > New > Film & Video has the prest size and pixel aspect ratio selections.  I thought to use this with HDV 1080p/29.97 and HDV1080/DVCPRO HD 720 (1.33) for any images I need for the project.
Most discussions I see only refer to the pixel size reference for HD image sizes, but nothing addressing the pixel aspect ratio setting for the image.  Are these settings ignored in PS and handled in FCE only? Or does it make better quality images to get this "right" in PS when creating the still image?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. In an ideal world, the graphic material you build in PS should match the sequence settings you intend to edit them into - so, if for no other reason, it reduces the amount of reformatting FCE has to do when rendering them.
But frequently you want to build graphics larger than the frame size of the sequence so that you can re-size and reposition the graphic within FCE without losing quality.
The apparent pixel aspect ratio of your graphic can be controlled with FCE by editing the graphic to the timeline, double clicking on the clip in the timeline, and when that timeline clip opens in the viewer, click on the motion tab and adjust the Aspect Ratio Paddle (this is the correction for a 1920 x1080 square pixel clip being placed into an HDV 1440 x 1080 timeline):
In Photoshop, you can change the way your work is displayed by going to the menu View > Pixel Aspect Ratio:

  • Background as a still image

Ok I have performed my matte key, and dialed in my levels, the only thing I am having a problem with now is how to make a still image replace the "black" from my matte key?
    nevermind...???

Well, sheesh, did you try putting the still on a layer under your keyed layer? Didn't that work?

  • FAQ: How do I use a still image as a reference in Adobe SpeedGrade CC?

Save stills of shots in your project and use them as reference images for color grading work. Robbie Carman also shows you how to import images from apps such as Photoshop into the Snapshot Browser to guide your color grading.

As stated, the problem was that I could not find Custom Image anywhere.  I finally figured out that along with the drop down menu for the Bullets there is also a triangle before the word Bullet 7 Lists. THAT is where one finds the Custom Image choices

  • Use several still images per second

For a time-lapse video that I shot I want the play speed to be several frames per second.
for example: I made 400 foto's and now I want to play them all in 40 seconds (10fps)
What I tried was the following:
load all the seperate images in order in Premiere Pro
    Select all images
    ->"Speed/duration" menu
Now here is the part where I get stuck.
If I lower the duration per picture to as low as 1 second everything works perfectly fine, but if I try to set the seconds area to "0" and the column next to it to some value [e.g. 00:00:00:20] my video gets messed up.
The images indeed only last for a period shorter than a second, but I get a lot of "empty video" between the images.
For some reason the ripple edit does not seems to work anymore going into sub-second durations, since it does not automatically paste all the seperate images together anymore.
How could I try to fix it?
Also, what format is the column after the seconds? is this miliseconds? does it go from 0-99?

Great news. For Time-Lapse, I probably go with 3 - 5 Frames for my Stills Duration most often, but it depends on the look and feel that I am trying to obtain, and also the interval that the shooting took place. Sometimes I end up with less, but sometimes more - it just depends on the look. I usually do a test Project, and Import a few Images at 3 Frames, then play that many times, to see if I like it. If not, then off I go to 4 Frames, etc.. You were going in the other direction, as you already had a good feel for the pacing of your piece - you just needed to do the math to get there.

  • Still image disappears from menu background on burning to DVD

I’ve just completed a project in Adobe Premiere Elements 9 in which I’ve personalized the menu background with a still image (trying two different disc menu templates - sport swimming and one under memories - can't remember the name of that one). With both these templates the still image shows up perfectly on my computer screen while I'm in the project but when I burn the project to DVD the still image doesn't appear on playback of the DVD.  I have done other projects in PE9 with no problems with still images in existing disc menu templates - travel ship template and the template that comes as standard with PE9 before adding additional templates). I would prefer not to use either of these templates for my current project.
I see previous treads have commented on changing the size of the image...this doesn't seem to make a difference for me and the other suggestion is to somehow change the name of the file for the templates to get around this problem but i'm not understanding this.  I still don't understand why some templates work and others don't. Does anyone have a simple to understand solution to this?
Or does anyone have a list of the disc menu templates that work with personalizing?
    thanks heaps.

There does seem to be a bug that affects some menu templates.
Try the Generic template under the General tab.
There are also a number of menu templates available at Premiere Elements support site http://Muvipix.com that will work with no problem and can be easily customized.

  • Using still images in PP CS6?

Hi all, newbie to this forum so hello, happy christmas and love to the lot of ya haha
I am trying to make a video for my girlfriends artwork so am using purely still images and text but for the life of me, i cannot get the pics to show at their correct resolution at all in pp.  Even the text i did in photoshop looks suspect. They all seem to be very pixelated, even when i export to movie.  The images are all 300 ppi and professionally taken but when in pp, they look like they've been taken on a cheap mobile phone.... not helpful at all.
I'm fairly new to all this movie stuff but i do understand technical speak so don't worry about blinding me with science
Any help would be a god send right now so thanks in advance.

2nd, after your pictures are properly scaled, you need to realize that 300dpi for photo printing has nothing to do with the resolution of a DVD screen... which is, I think, 72dpi... Link to DVD Demystified FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/544206
If you want higher resolution, you need to use a HiDef BluRay disc

  • Alpha layer on V2 creates banding in the still image of V1

I have about seventy-five shots with a still image background and an animated object above it (on video track 2). The alpha type is set correctly (black), but for some reason the background has color banding on any spot where the V2 alpha layer exists. It's critical that we correct this distortion, so if anyone has any ideas they'd be much appreciated!
The animated layer is a combination of a Photoshop PNG and a shape created in Motion. The animation was all done in Motion as well. Unfortunately, using the still image is a background in Motion to begin with is NOT an option, but to explain why would take another four or five paragraphs (this is a complicated and long-running project!).
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the help. I will try rendering it in 10-bit.
About rendering it in Motion. . . well, that actually does not create the banding, but due to what some experts suspect is deep-seated problem with our OS X or Final Cut Studio installation, it does other things with the image which are unacceptable for our output.
Scratch that! Thanks so much! Rendering in high-precision YUV fixed our problem! (With the color banding, I mean.) We've got a nearly seven hour DVD set going out nationwide soon and you just made this one of our briefest and easiest problems to overcome.
I thought I had tried every combination of rendering but with so many variables, I guess that one slipped through.

  • Still Images degrade when exporting

Hi. I am making an audio slide show with IMovie 09, using only still images shot with a Canon 5D. The images I import to Imovie have a very high resolutition and file size(300 dpi and about 5MB compressed), yet when I export the final project, the images are degraded. I can not find anything in preferences or in the help section about why this would be happening. Any thoughts?

How did you perform the export?
I was able to get a pretty good image export by exporting to Quicktime, making a 1440x1080 (my work is 4:3) H264 file at whatever the best quality settings were, audio to big endian 48 kHz, 16 bit.
The share-to-media-browser menu option also makes an H264 file, but I believe the quality setting is lowered and in my case I could only get "Large", which was half the resolution of the settings above.

  • Most efficient way of changing still image frame rates?

I'm using Premiere CS5.5 and have been having issues with the audio/video going out of sync when I upload my video to Vimeo (it's not out of sync prior to uploading it...it only happens after they transcode it). The Vimeo support staff says the problem is that I'm using a variable frame rate, but since there isn't any option (to my knowledge) to choose a constant or variable framerate in Premiere/Adobe Media Encoder, I think I have identified the problem. The primary footage that I shot with is 23.976 fps and that is what my sequence settings and output settings have been, but I also have a lot of still images that I'm using for b-roll, which I finally noticed are 29.97 fps. I changed the Intermediate Media Timebase setting to 23.976 fps in the preferences, but my question now is if there is an efficient way to change the frame rate of all those still images without having to re-import them and re-apply all the various motion effects/key framing that I've already spent a lot of time on?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, I downloaded MediaInfo to explore some of the various versions that I've rendered in my effort to get something that works correctly on Vimeo, and depending on the encoder I saw some of what Ann posted, but I also looked at one on MediaInfo that I had rendered through Adobe Media Encoder and it had a Constant frame rate mode of 23.976, yet I remember watching that one on Vimeo at the time and it was still out of sync--Mediainfo says that version has a variable audio bit rate though, but to my knowledge there isn't an option in AME to choose a constant audio bit rate.
I agree that it's an issue on Vimeo's side, but the chances of them getting their **** together in a timely fashion seem low. The frustrating thing is that I can watch documentary style videos on Vimeo that I know were edited and compressed through Premiere/AME, yet they don't have any audio sync issues. The difference that I noticed between one of those videos and mine is the use of still images in my video. As you can see from an image I uploaded earlier, the default frame rate for still images when I imported them was 29.97 until I changed it yesterday, but it didn't update the images I had already imported. So I'm wondering if there is a way to change the frame rate of those still images without having to re-import the images and make all my edits/key framing all over again.

  • Frame around still image.

Hello -- somehow I have managed to place a frame around my still images. It was cute once, but now I need to get rid of it. I hope to use a still image behind my talent using chroma key. How'd I get that thing on in the first place, and how do I get rid of it!?
    Thanks,
    Docfiddles

    Welcome to the forum.
Personally, I'd do this in Photoshop and create an Action to Batch process the removal of the "frame."
Now, in PrPro, you can apply the Crop Effect to the still image with the "frame." If they are all the same, then once applied to the first, Rt-click, choose Copy. Now, Select all others, Rt-click on them and choose Paste Attributes.
You might want to put a Colored Matte on a lower Video Track for a "background." You could also place an abstract still below.
    Good luck,

  • Still images import and sizing in BlackMagic 10 bits footage Premiere pro CS 5.5 and AE

    Hi,
I'm looking for the maths to calculate the needed image size when using normal  images for import to use as still images in Premiere.
The images I have are 72dpi and 240dpi. The footage is Black Magic 10 bits AVI 1920x1080 (1,0) 50i and some stuff is 25p (for keying purposes).
I use Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks. I have the same question concerning the import and sizing of images in After Effects.
    Thanks! David

The images I have are 72dpi and 240dpi.
That is completely irrelevant for video editing. The only thing that matters is the pixel dimensions. A 240 dpi image on a 4.3"screen is different than a 72 dpi image on a 200" video wall. The math is simple: one to one relationship. So if you edit 1920 x 1080, use 1920 x 1080 pixel dimensions for your images.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Importing still images

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/importing-still-images.html

I might be incorrect in this, but think that there is a Ps Script, that will do what you want.
I would ask in the Photoshop Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop
and also in the Photoshop Scripting Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting?view=discussions
If my memory is not totally hosed, one of those should yield the Script (if it exists, as I claim to remember) for that task.

  • When I set black point on windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

when I set black point using windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

I set black point with alt button down while I move sllider. When black
dots show, I stop and back off a bit.  That's the normal result. Normally a
white screen appears until I release the alt key. In my case, sometimes the
screen goes from white to full image. It's not all the time. I view my
power and ram use as I work and it doesn't spike when this happens.  It's
as if the alt key command is not holding.  I've used both alt keys with
    same results.
Thanks for responding.  I hope you have some ideas.

  • Idvd still images

I am interested in capturing images from a digital video to create a slide show for dvd. I would like to use only still images from a dv. Is there a way to do this?
    thanks

I'm ceretianly no expert at this, but I believe that you can do this in iMovie. Once you've put your digital video into an iMovie project, there's an option somewhere where you select the shot you'd like and tell it to create a still image. Someone else will be able to help you further with this i'm sure.
