Set Oracle to force searching string by upper case

Our application using Oracle 11.1 and Hibernate. Data store in our database in mix cases. many of our queries are like select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%'
It returns Dave, DAVE, dave, David, DAVIE etcAccording to our developers, Hibernate does not send query select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%' it only doesselect first_name from persons where first_name like 'DAV%'This only return DAVE and DAVID.
Question: Is there a way to set Oracle, at database level or table level, to always search by upper case, that is, select first_name from persons where first_name like 'DAV%' is converted to select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%'

Yes, there is a way. New in 10GR2....
You can set NLS_COMP.
http://www.orafaq.com/node/91
I tested it and it works well...
Example: SQL>  alter session set NLS_COMP=ANSI;
Session altered.
SQL> alter session set NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI;
Session altered.
SQL> select name from names where name = 'Johny Jacobson';
NAME
Johny Jacobson
johny jacobson
JOHNY JACOBSONI hope you find this helpful.

  • JDBC send data to oracle, oracle only accept column name in Upper case

    Hi experts,
    I am doing a scenario File --> XI --> JDBC,  JDBC send data to a Oracle 10g database, I have configured JDBC receiver to use XML-SQL format. in oracle database ,  table "EMPLOYEE" has a column "NAME", but when I send data to oracle using JDBC receiver, the column is "name", then XI complains
    " 'EMPLOYEE' (structure 'insert'): java.sql.SQLException: FATAL ERROR: Column 'name' does not exist in table 'EMPLOYEE'.
    can anyone help me to let oracle accpet column "name". I can't change colum in JDBC receiver from "name" to "NAME".
    Thanks a lot.

    <i>can anyone help me to let oracle accpet column "name"</i>
    Making Oracle case insensitive is not possible (in my opinion). By default all object names are stored in UPPER case in the rdbms dictionary.
    When XI searches for column name in Oracle, this search is case sensitive. So u have to configure accordingly.

    hi guys I have a scenario that I wanted my project description to be upper case, so I went to transfer rules and converted the info object description to upper case, now when I go to my report and click selection all the project desciption shows in upper case.
    what i want is the selection criteria to force itself to be upper case,
    For e.g.
    If the user enters lower case it would still search upper case (as the data is now all converted to upper case)
    The variable is query designer, can this be done in the query designer or web template and if this cant be done ?

    used a customer excit variable and whatever the user enter convert it to upper case for search in query designer.

    Hi all,
    I have a problem loading a cyrillic string into a characteristic in a DSO.
    I get an error message when trying to activate the data in the DSO.
    The characteristic is a CHAR18 with the "lowercase letters" unmarked and there is an abap
    routine to convert the string in upper case.
    According to the error message, the string seems to be converted because the error shows the string in upper case ( the input was in lower case)  but the DSO data is not activated:

  • Conversation lower case to upper case by default not wanted

    Hi,
    Oracle converts lower case table names and columns names to upper case by default. To keep lower case letters names must be quoted. This "work around" is not acceptable.
    Is there a way to change this behavior either for the database or for a session?
    Thanks

    Easy answer. We are migrating from sybase ASE to
    oracle. Sybase supports mixed lower/upper case by
    default.Which is a proprietary behavior. After all these years of accusing Oracle of not conforming to standards, when they do (or come close) it bites them. <g>
    Users are familiar with reading column names like
    "RxCellsHec0Clp0" instead of "RXCELLSHEC0CLP0".
    Yes, there are users working directly with sql.If the users are used to putting the column name in double-quotes, then creating the table with identifiers in double-quotes will conform to the expected behaviour. That simply means that each and every reference to the table requires double-quote around the identifiers.
    And it is quite impossible to get them changing all their queries
    from select RxCellsHec0Clp0 from ...
    to select "RxCellsHec0Clp0" from ...One alternative is to wrap every table (of concern) with a view. My thought would be to leave the table with upper case identifiers, have the view with mixed-case identifiers, and use private synonyms to redirect the user to the view.
    The assumptions are
    1) user-oriented security is in place
    2) users use the quoted-identifier syntax

  • Electronic bank statement global setting and search string usage

    In electronic bank statement configuration, there are two major places to setup the data
    1) Make Global Settings for Electronic Bank Statement
    2) Define Search String for Electronic Bank Statement
    When bank statements are imported and possessed via FF_5, which of the above configuration will take priority.  I'm now using BAI2 bank statement

    The Global Settings are required for loading bank statements.  The Search String configuration is optional.  Search strings are used in to override and/or augment the Global settings.
    For example, you might have a BAI code that is used by the bank for 2 (or more) different types of postings.  You can only assign one posting rule in the Global Settings.  However, you can use a search string to assign a different posting rule to transactions based on the note to payee information.  So this is a case where the search string overrides the Global settings.
    Or you might have transactions that need to be cleared based on reference information from the bank statement.  You would assign the posting rule and appropriate interpretation algorithm via the Global Settings, however you might need a search string to get the reference information from the note to payee.
    Hope this information helps.

  • How to get where the search string appears in the results

    Hi every one
    i am new to Oracle Text
    this is my project environment "EJP 3.0+seam+JSF"
    in my part i need to implement smart searches within large text objects.
    So i planed to use Oracle text with context type indexing.
    I my search part i need to display where the search string appears in the results
    i don't know how to archive it,
    is it achived by CTX_DOC.GIST ?
    this is my table format
    Tbl_Book
    book_id Book_Title Book_description
    Tbl_Author
    author_id book_id author_name
    in my first table i index the Book_Title and Book_description columns
    EXEC CTX_DDL.DROP_PREFERENCE ('expert_concat_datastore')
    drop index Tbl_Book_Index force;
    BEGIN
    CTX_DDL.CREATE_PREFERENCE
         ('expert_concat_datastore', 'MULTI_COLUMN_DATASTORE');
    CTX_DDL.SET_ATTRIBUTE
         ('expert_concat_datastore', 'COLUMNS', 'Book_Title,Book_description');
    END;
    alter table Tbl_Book add (dummy varchar2(1))
    begin
    Ctx_Ddl.Drop_Section_Group
    group_name => 'my_section_group'
    exception
    when others then
    /* OK if DRG-12203: section group MY_SECTION_GROUP does not exist */
    if instr ( SQLERRM, 'DRG-12203' ) != 0 then null;
    else raise_application_error ( -20000, SQLERRM ); end if;
    end;
    begin
    Ctx_Ddl.Create_Section_Group
    group_name => 'my_section_group',
    group_type => 'basic_section_group'
    Ctx_Ddl.Add_Field_Section
    group_name => 'my_section_group',
    section_name => 'title',
    tag => 'Book_Title'
    Ctx_Ddl.Add_Field_Section
    group_name => 'my_section_group',
    section_name => 'description',
    tag => 'Book_description'
    end;
    create index Tbl_Book_Index on Tbl_Book ( dummy )
    indextype is ctxsys.context parameters (' datastore expert_concat_datastore section group my_section_group');
    begin
    Ctx_Ddl.Drop_Section_Group
    group_name => 'my_section_group'
    end;
    in my second table i index the author_name column
    drop index Tbl_Author_Index force;
    create index Tbl_Author_Index on Tbl_Author (author_name) indextype is ctxsys.context parameters('filter ctxsys.null_filter section group ctxsys.html_section_group');
    begin
    Ctx_Ddl.Optimize_Index (
    idx_name => 'Tbl_Author_Index',
    optlevel => Ctx_Ddl.optlevel_fast
    end;
    my search result is only in my Tbl_Book.
    Because it is my primary one.
    So this is my query in EJP 3.0
    select t from Tbl_Book t LEFT JOIN t.AuthorCollection c wherecontains(t.dummy, 'java within title or(java within description)',10) > 0 or contains(c.author_name ,'thiagu',20) > 0 ) ORDER BY SCORE(10), SCORE(20)
    here i need to get single SCORE how to do that ?
    i dont know how to highlight the search string in the result ?
    is it archived by CTX_DOC.MARKUP ?
    please any one help me

    Weird.  I have multuple monitors and the boot stuff always appears on my main monitor.
    See if smc and pram reset clears the problem.
    I have multiple screens on my Mac Pro. A normal screen, a projector and a USB-to-DVI converter.
    What video card are you using?  And USB-to-DVI is not the usual way for connecting monitors.  I wonder if that is confusing things.  So out of curiousity what happens if that monitor is not connected?

  • Using Oracle Text to search through WORD, EXCEL and PDF documents

    Hello again,
    What I would like to know is if I have a WORD or PDF document stored in a table. Is it possible to use Oracle Text to search through the actual WORD or PDF document?
    Thanks
    Doug

    Yes you can do context sensitive searches on both PDF and Word docs. With the PDF you need to make sure they are text and not images. Some scanners will create PDFs that are nothing more than images of document.
    Below is code sample that I made some time back to demonstrate the searching capabilities of Oracle Text. Note that the example makes use of the inso_filter that is no longer shipped with Oracle begging with Patch set 10.1.0.4. See metalink note 298017.1 for the changes. See the following link for more information on developing with Oracle Text.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/text.101/b10729/toc.htm

  • Insert set of character in a string

    hi guys,
    I have created a string of length 19, i need to insert set of character and compare them if its right format or not.That is for barcode i need. i WANT MY PROGRAM TO GENERATE THIS FORMAT BARCODE.
    eg : INV40602007RE000155

    Hi
    SEARCH
    Variants:
    1. SEARCH f    FOR g.
    2. SEARCH itab FOR g.
    Note
    Like all string processsing statements, you can only use character-type operands here.
    If the type of an operand is not STRING, the operand is treated like a type C field, regardless of its actual type, even though no actual conversion takes place.
    See Only character fields allowed in string processing.
    Variant 1
    SEARCH f FOR g.
    Additions:
    1. ... ABBREVIATED
    2. ... STARTING AT n1
    3. ... ENDING   AT n2
    4. ... AND MARK
    Effect
    Searches the contents of f for the string in the field g. This string can have any of the following formats:
    'str'
    a character string (trailing spaces are ignored)
    '.str.'
    any character string between the periods
    '*str'
    a word ending with "str", including "str"
    'str*'
    a word beginning with "str", including "str"
    You can use any non-alphanumeric character as a separator, that is, spaces, punctuation marks and non-printable characters.
    Note
    The search patterns 'str' and '.str.' are identical apart from a few exceptions. You must use '.str.' when the pattern str contains spaces (at the end), the '.' character (at the beginning and end), or the '*' character (at the end). You should also use '.str.' when the contents of the search string str is a variable, since you cannot predict when you write the statement what the contents of the string will be.
    The system does not distinguish between upper and lower case characters.
    The return code is set as follows:
    SY-SUBRC = 0:
    The search string g was found in the field f. SY-FDPOS contains the offset of the found string or the found word within the field.
    SY-SUBRC = 4:
    The search string g was not found in the field f.
    Addition 1
    ... ABBREVIATED
    Effect
    Searches the field f for a word containing the character string specified in the field. Here, the characters specified in g may be separated by other characters in the word. If the string g occurs in a word, the return code in system field SY-SUBRC is set to 0. The first letter of the search string g and of the word must match.
    Example
    DATA F(50).
    MOVE 'Alaska Texas California' TO F.
    SEARCH F FOR 'Clfrn' ABBREVIATED.
    Here, SY-SUBRC is set to 0, since not only does the string 'Clfrn' occur (separated by other characters) in 'California', but 'Clfrn' and 'California' begin with the same letter.
    Addition 2
    ... STARTING AT n1
    Effect
    Searches the field f starting from the position n1. Here, n1 can also be a field containing the corresponding value. The first character in the field f is in position 1.
    When you use the addition STARTING AT, the position specified for the found pattern in SY-FDPOS does not refer to the start of the field, but to the position n1.
    Addition 3
    ... ENDING AT n2
    Effect
    Searches the field f up to the position n2.
    Addition 4
    ... AND MARK
    Effect
    If the search string g is found, all the characters of the search string and all the characters occurring in between (in the case of SEARCH ABBREVIATED) are converted to upper case in the field f.
    Example
    DATA F(20) VALUE 'Peter Paul Mary'.
    SEARCH F FOR '*UL' AND MARK.
    SY-SUBRC is now set to 0, since the search string was found in 'Paul'. SY-FDPOS has the value 6, since the character string found starts at the offset 6. Also, the search string is marked, so that the new contents of f are as follows:
    'Peter PAUL Mary'
    Variant 2
    SEARCH itab FOR g.
    Additions:
    1. ... ABBREVIATED
    2. ... STARTING AT line1
    3. ... ENDING   AT line2
    4. ... AND MARK
    Effect
    Searches the internal table itab for the string in field g. The string can have the same format as in variant 1. The value of SY-SUBRC is set to 0, if the search string is found in the table. The system field SY-TABIX then contains the number of the table line where the string was found. Meanwhile, SY-FDPOS specifies the offset of the found string within the table line.
    Note
    The statement does not search the header line of an internal table itab.
    Addition 1
    ... ABBREVIATED
    Effect
    As with SEARCH ABBREVIATED, searches the internal table itab for a word that contains the character string specified in the field g. Here, the characters specified in g can be separated by other characters in the word. The return code value of the system field SY-SUBRC is set to 0, if the string g occurs in a word. The first letter of the search string g and of the word must match.
    Addition 2
    ... STARTING AT line1
    Effect
    Searches the internal table itab starting from line line1 to the end. line1 can be a field that contains the corresponding values.
    Addition 3
    ... ENDING AT line2
    Effect
    Searches the internal table itab up to the line line2.
    Addition 4
    ... AND MARK
    Effect
    If the search string g is found, all the characters of that search string and all the characters occurring in between (in the case of SEARCH ABBREVIATED) are converted to upper case in the internal table itab.
    Example
    Let T be an internal table which is empty:
    TYPES: BEGIN OF T_TYPE,
            LINE(80),
          END OF T_TYPE.
    DATA: T TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF T_TYPE WITH
                 NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY,
          WA_T TYPE T_TYPE.
    MOVE 'Alaska Texas       ' TO WA_T.
    APPEND WA_T TO T.
    MOVE 'California Arizona ' TO WA_T.
    APPEND WA_T TO T.
    SEARCH T FOR '*ONA' AND MARK.
    SY-SUBRC is now set to 0 because the search string was found in 'Arizona'. SY-TABIX contains the value 2 because 'Arizona' appears in the second line of the table T. SY-FDPOS is set to 11 because the found character string begins at the offset 11. Also, the search string was marked in the second line in such a way that the contents of that line now look as follows:
    'California ARIZONA'
    Note
    Performance:
    Searching generically for a string in an internal table is much more runtime-intensive (approx. 5000 msn (standardized microseconds)) than searching for 'str' (approx. 20 msn). This was measured using a table with 200 entries and 10 fields.
    If you perform a search in a field which is 50 bytes long for 'str' or 'str', the runtime consumption is approx. 300 msn, whereas searching for 'str' takes about 15 msn.

    Raghav

    I have run dead smack into this issue using AD also. Is there a solution? I have tried all of the options for the following settings which seem to control the look up process:
    <property name="username.attr" value="cn"/>
    <property name="user.login.attr" value="sAMAcountName"/>.
    For me, this issue rears its ugly head when attempting to add a role to an AD user. I can enter the login name in the find user box, click the find button, and the user is found. I select the user, pick the role, click "Add Member(s)", and then bam "No matching users were found with search string <login user>" message.
    Based on my analysis of the problem, my guess would be that the look up process, which works, differs from the role assignment process in source of data and/or the key-field used to find a match.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance.

  • Issue With Similar Search Strings in EBS

    Hi Everybody, I'm experiencing some issue regarding a Search String that I have, the config is very similar, the only difference between one and the other is that there's a specific posting rule for one particular account.
    EG: Search String 1: (^)ACCOUNT TRANSFER TRSF TO( |$)
          Search String 2:(^)ACCOUNT TRANSFER TRSF TO 1111111111( |$)
    (Where 1111111111 is the bank account)
    Same Extenral transaction, NTRF, Same house bank and account id. Same Comapny also
    But when executing a Statement with the 1st one it works fine, but when runing the 2nd one it does not use any of them(it takes the Posting rule set for NTRF in the EBS configuration).
    I've tested it in the SS test and it takes the right posting rule.
    If you have any clue on this I'll really appreciate it.
    Regards
    Luciano

    I apologize for the above and the thread has been posted here as I was unable to access the correct category due to some technical issues with Oracle forums. Also, the mentioned issue is in critical state and has a deadline so thought of posting to get it resolved as soon as possible. Specific categorization will be surely taken care in future.

  • Search Strings

    HI
    We are using Payment Order and through EBS we clear the vendor open items as after payment run system generate the payment order number but vendor open items remain open. For Bank Transfer BTC is NTRF. But for all the check which are also enchashed at counter bank is also using BTC NTRF. So we have two posting rules for the same BTC. For payment order clearing we are using Algoirtham 029. which is assigned in EBS global setting. To solve above we define the search strings but system is not changing the posting rule as check number coming immediately after NTRF1013.
    Our Check Number is exactly 4 characters. So we define search string like below
    Maping empy
    In search strings use we entered CC, HB, AC then algoritham999 as 029 is not exits then search string target field Posting rule and enter posting rule for check then create another entry in which target field is Algoritham and select algoritham 011 for check.
    Now our file for check is coming like 61:1201230123D10000,00NTRF1013       but system not read this record.
    Just for testing we make another line and like 61:1201230123D10000,00NTRF1013       //1013 and system able to change the Posting rule. No idea why its is behaving like this way
    Please help
    Farhan Qaiser

    Dear Farhan,
    Please create the search string in below way.
    (^ |#| *)NTRF####( *|$) with remaining parameters you have entered, please make sure that you are entering global interpretation algo in search string also.
    Or please check any other text is there to identify check transaction and create a search string for that.
    Regards
    Shanu
