Set text of TextInput control inside a movieclip

Hello,
I have created a movieclip object in the library which has
three TextInput components. Now I am attaching this movieclip into
another movieclip object on the frame. When i try to change the
text property of the TextInput component, it does show the text.
temp_mc=empty_mc.attachMovie("display_mc","display_mc1",1);
temp_mc.desc.text="Sdf";
However if I trace the text of the new movieclip using the
code:
trace(temp_mc.desc.text);
it shows the correct text.
Please suggest.

use setTimeout to delay using your textinputs.

How can I set the caption text of picture controls inside an array or how can I choose which array element is assigned using the array elements caption text property.

I have 8 picture controls inside an array and I would like to set the caption text of these controls.
I have used the property node of the array and used the array elements property caption text to set the text.
The problem is however that I set the same text to all the picture controls inside the array.
My question is how to set caption text of specific elements (Picture control) that I have so far only been able to access using the array elements caption text property.

1 You could use the caption of the array and place it in front of the selected picture and update that using property nodes.
2 Like Norbett said if you use a cluster of pictures then their caption can be updated individually.

Set text on textinput enter event

Hi, is it possible to set the text of a textinput from the enter event?

When I run the code above, as long as I click in the TextInput control so it has focus, pressing the Enter key sets the text.

Can links inside "set text of container" behaviours open in a new page?

I am using the set text of container behaviour to show different information within the same page, to keep things neat and simple to navigate. Some of the text needs to be external links, but they open in the current page, not a new page even though I have set the target to _blank.
Is there another way to keep using the set text of container and have the links open in another page?

I want to programmatically set the limit (max, min input) of a control inside a cluster. (see attached VI).
The max, min value will be read from a file. The input of the control must be within the range defined by the max and min value.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Accessing the properties of a cluster (or array) is not a trivial operation until you have done it once. It's a two step (at least) process : first, ask for a reference (array of...) to the objects contained in the cluster, then tell LV what kind of object you are adressing.

UIX/XML: Layout for textInput controls

I need to render a number of textInput UIX beans (and comboboxes a.s.o.) together with a label and render a small icon right next to it. Now that itself is not a problem, but I want the labels and the controls to be aligned in the following way:
LLLLLLL TTTTT I
LLL TTTTTTTTT I
LLLLLL TT I
Is there any way to achieve that with the messageTextInput bean?
I tried using the normal textInput beans together with a styled text in a tableLayout. This displays nicely, but whenever a validator fails a messagebox is displayed that says something like:
value required in ""
That makes validators completely unusable.
Any idea how to get the layout right and have meaningful validator messages?
Actually I would strongly prefer using the messageTextInput bean, since it does so many nice things for me...

The messageTextInput bean adheres to the BLAF, which state that labels should be right aligned.
You can do what you are trying to do by using a messagePrompt and a textInput. Make sure to set "id" on textInput uniquely, and labeledNodeId on messagePrompt to match. This will allow the validators to use the prompt attribute to display an understandable message. You can put your information inside of a tableLayout to get it to align the way you want.

Dynamic header text in table control - Dialog programming

Hi All,
I have a table control on one of my dialog screens. I need to dynamically change the column header texts on this control in my PBO. Does anyone know how to do this? I have found all kinds of ways to modify the other characteristics of the fields at run time in the PBO (active, input/output, invisible, etc.) - but not to change the header text! Any help is appreciated.

- but only in ABAP reports. It doesn't seem to recogize it (the table control column header text) within a dialog program. I keep getting a compile error. (saying that the %_<screenname>_%_APP_%-TEXT doesn't exist.
I tried the suggestion that you stated below (from lateesh) - yet it only let me place i/o field in title text area (not the column header text). Am still searching...

Adding an effect to a TextInput Control

Is there any way to show the text in a TextInput control as though it was being typed in by a user? I have a TextInput defined as follows:

I can change the string value for message2Input.text elsewhere in my mxml application. When I do, that text will be displayed in the control. But it gets displayed in its entirety, instantly. I need to have it displayed as if it was typed for reasons related to a customer demo. So if the string is "Dexter, a very interesting guy", I want it to appear incrementally as

D-e-x
etc etc.
I don't seem to find any control effects for TextInput that allow this when I search the discussion forums. Does anyone have an example where they have done this programmatically? I tried changing message2Input.text within a for loop, "growing" the display text with each loop until the entire string has been "typed in". But I still only see the final complete text string. I suspect this is because the TextInput control only handles one event, and won't loop through a series of re-posts in an event handler. But I'm new to this, and only guessing here.
This is the private function in my Flex mxml app that I use to post the message to the TextInput display:

Try using Jumpeye components. They provide swcs for flex use. Lot of effects and animations are present.

TextInput control misbehaves when using the East-Asian fonts

I am a little curious about this issue and I would like to get some help from our community. The issue is about fonts when using East Asian languages.I have all East-Asian language installed on my computer (WIN SERV 2003)and I let my flex application to use the local system font(font is not embedded) to get the Japanese character. When I start typing the characters into the Flex textinput control everything works properly as expected until I reach the boundary of the textinput control, the characters gets displayed outside the textinput and I would need to press the enter key to get the fonts inside the textinput . Have anyone experienced such problems when using fonts for Japanese, Chinese etc? Refer the image for more clarity.Please help

This is the expected behavior for Japanese in my experience. The reason, I think, is that for Japanese characters the text input process has two steps. First the basic phonetic characters are entered and then these are selectively changed into kanji characters which can shorten the final input text. So it makes sense to calculate the textbox height after the text has been finally input, not while it is still being input. The enter key is the event that signals the text should be submitted. I don't know about Chinese, but for Japanese, this is the standard way of handling text input in my experience.

Issue in wrapping of text in TextEdit control

Hi,
I'm developing an occasionally connected application using NetWeaver Mobile 7.1. In one of the view, I use TextEdit control to display the address information where the address is a multiline text data. During testing of the application in the simulator, the wrapping of text in the TextEdit control is not working properly. The wrapping property of TextEdit control is set to "soft" but the text is not getting wrapped. Even I tried the other option "hard" wrapping but it throws some error while building of the application.
Please suggest a solution to do wrapping of text using TextEdit control.

The rows and cols properties are already set and also the data is multiline but the text is not wrapping.
Say the properties of a TextEdit control rows is "4" and cols is "30" was set. The data is also a multiline text say each line has more than 30 characters. During wrapping of text with in TextEdit control the first row should have only 30 characters and rest should be wrapped off to the next row and so on.
But during execution what happens is the text is not getting wrapped instead the first row itself has all the characters of first line of the text and second row has next line of text and so on. The text in a row can be scrolled through using horizontal scrollbar.
My need is the horizontal scroll bar should not come and the text need to the wrapped off with number of cols specified.

How can I make a control inside a loop in a subVI change value when the calling VI's control changes?

I think this is a pretty basic LV question, but I have not been able to find a good solution.
I am attaching VIs that show the problem I am having, but obviously, the real application is a lot complicated, which forces me to try to do it this way.
The issue is: I have a subVI with a Boolean control inside a loop. When the control is true I want some action to take place. When the subVI is run on its own, it works fine, acting properly when I set the boolean control to true via the LV FPGA interface from the host. However, when I use it as a subVI, in which the top-level VI calls several instances of the subVI, I have the Boolean controls in the top level VI. What is happening is that the false Boolean value with which the top-level VI starts is passed into the subVIs, and not updated, even though the control is inside the loop.
Can any one suggest a good solution?

I know the example I posted might seem silly, but it was just to illustrate the problem I am having. In reality this is the application:
I have some LV FPGA code which uses a few FPGA IO to implement a serial link to communicate with a device. Most of the time we are getting data from the device, so the serial link is used to send a read command, read in the data and put it into a FIFO. However, I also wanted the VI to support sending data to the device, so I added an array control to put the data you want to send, and a boolean control to tell it you want to send it.
Since sending and receiving data are done using the same FPGA IO, they cannot be independent operations, because they would garble each other. Therefore, in the subVI I have a loop in which I first read data if there is any to read, then check the boolean write control to see if there is data to write.
As I mentioned, this works perfectly for talking to a single device. However, we run into the issue of this topic when trying to replicate this for several devices.
One easy solution is to not have the loop in the subVI, and have it in the calling VI (I am favoring this simple solution right now). The only reason why I have not done this yet, is that the subVI has more than one loop, so I am going to have to create several subVIs. I just posted to see if there was an even simpler solution...
There have been some other possibly good solutions proposed here, though I am not sure if they work in LV FPGA.

Calling a variable from inside a movieclip AS3 in Flash CS4

I am trying to trace a variable string from inside a movieclip which is inside another movieclip on the main timeline using:
trace(VariableString);
and also
trace(stage.VariableString);
Neither work
The variable is an input textfield and traces fine when it is on the main timeline but will not work from inside the movieclip. I am using Actionscript 3 in Flash CS4.
I appreciate this has probably been discussed previously on this forum but I cannot find a difinitve answer that seems to work.

On Keyfrme1 I have a MovieClip1 containing a text input component. I have created a variable on keyframe 1 using:
var VariableString1:String = new String();
When clicking on a seperate button this happens:
VariableString1 = MovieClip1.text;
I can trace this correctly on the main timeline using:
trace(VariableString1);
However, if I try to trace this from another keyframe inside a movieclip2 which is inside another movieclip3 using:
trace(MovieClip1(root).VariableString1);
I just get the error 1180 call to a possibly undefined method MovieClip1
Sorry if this is not very clear but I am getting very confused with this.

How to change a setting in the Java Control Panel with command line

Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to change a setting in the Java Control Panel with command line or with a script. I want to enable "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"
I can't seem to find any documentation on how to change settings in the Java Control Panel via the command line

OK figured it out. This is for the next person seeking the same solution.
When you click on the Java Control Panel (found in the Control panel) in any version of Windows, it first looks for a System Wide Java Configuration (found here: C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment). At this point you must be wondering why you don't have this folder (C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment) or why its empty. Well, for an enterprise environment, you have to create it and place something in it - it doesn't exist by default. So you'll need a script (I used Autoit) to create the directory structure and place the the two files into it. The two files are "deployment.properties" and "deployment.config".
Example: When you click on the Java Control Panel it first checks to see if this directory exists (C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment) and then checks if there is a "deployment.config". If there is one it opens it and reads it. If it doesn't exist, Java creates user settings found here C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment on Windows 7.

It should look like this inside:

If you look in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment on Windows 7 for example you will find "deployment.properties". You can use this as your default example and add your settings to it.

Easy. If you want to add *"Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"*
Add this line:
deployment.security.SSLv2Hello=true
Maybe you want to disable Java update (which is a big problem for enterprises)
Add these lines:
deployment.javaws.autodownload=NEVER
deployment.javaws.autodownload.locked=
Below is a basic AutoIt script you could use (It compiles the files into the executable. When you compile the script the two Java files must be in the directory you specify in the FileInstall line, which can be anything you choose. It will also create your directory structure):

Set text of container - javascript help, please!

I have used Dreamweaver behaviours to "Set text of container" and make different writing appear inside a box when I click a hotspot. Now I want people to be able to click on the writing that just appeared and make more text appear in another box. Could someone tell me how to do this? I don't think I can use Dreamweaver's behaviours for this because there's no material trigger... in that the writing that is the trigger only appears when the first trigger is clicked, but I'm more than happy to be corrected!!
So, I've been trawling through javascript libraries but I don't know what I'm doing, so if someone could either tell me how to do this in dreamweaver or really spell out what libraries etc. I need to download and what code I need to make a bit of text that's already a set text of a container into a trigger for a set text of another container, that would be great!
Sorry for the complicated question, it's difficult to explain what I mean.
