Setting dashboard prompt in agent?
Hi everyone,
i have a dashboard including a prompt, which filters the dashboard data for the selected organizational unit. Now i would like to create one (preferred) or more (if i have to) agents, which deliver the dashboard as one pdf per organizational unit. But i cannot find a way to configure the dashboard prompt from the agent.
Is this possible in any way? Or will i have to use the Burst feature of BI Publisher? I would not really like this solution, because i don't have the time to rebuild my dashboard as a Publisher report.
Thank you for your help.
Greetings
Christoph
Have you looked into dynamic variables in the repository - the Oracle by example repository building details this well - and you can associate specific users or groups to effect a dyanamic population of variables which could be used to act as filters on your reports.
Combine this with (say) delivers and you have dynamic report delivery by organisation with as many other dynamic parameters as you wish, provided you can populate them with SQL.
If you find this helpful please award points.
Regards,
Robert.

Can I set a Session Variable from a Dashboard Prompt, using values that are
Hi All
Trying to set a Session Variable to an integer value, by letting users select a text value from the drop-down list on a Dashboard Prompt. The goal is to set the input parameter to the IndexCol function, but to provide the end users with a text description of what they are setting.
Select Value Set Variable Value
My 0
My Team 1
My Companies 2
My Teams Companies 3
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Certainly we could populate the drop-down from a data source, however I don't see how to populate a variable with something other than the values on the screen.
The IndexCol function is referenced in a Filter in Answers, and I'm thinking to populate a Session variable using the (Presentation) variable value set from the prompt. But how to do this? I see a reference to a function NQSSetSessionValue(), but cannot find documentation on how it works.
Any clue will be greatly appreciated.
ThanksHi kishore..
Looks like the link u have sent uses advanced SQL tab to set session variables. I want to know if I can use "set variable NQ_SESSION.myvar= @something" in the "SQL results" -while creating a dashboard prompt-.
Purpose: I want the session variable to be set based on whatever report that im currently in.
And i dont want to use presentation variables because im using a reset button in my page.
My reset script resets presentation variables and NOT session variables.
Thanks in advance

How to set the 'default to' field of a dashboard prompt to yesterday?
Hi everyone,
I have a dashboard prompt on a date (fully qualified name Date.Date and type Date).
I also have a simple report with two columns: Date.Date and a mesure (whatever the name).
I managed to filter on the day before the current date in the report by adding an advanced SQL filter:
Date.Date = Cast(TimestampAdd(SQL_TSI_DAY,-1,@{system.currentTime}) as Date)
Now, I would like the prompt to select the day before the current date by default.
The filter on Date.Date would be 'is prompted' or so.
How do I set the "Default to" field of the prompt?
Thanks in advanceHi
go to your prompt..
select SQL Results from Default to: dropdown..
here.. you need to write your Logical SQL..
which defaults to the previous date
some thing like this..
*select case when 1=0 then anydate column else timestampadd(sql_tsi_day, -1, CURRENT_DATE) end FROM SubjectArea name*
write like this.. and report back...
Thanks & Regards

How to set the default value in dashboard prompt?
Hi there,
In my Dashboard prompt I'm getting values like:
Mar 2010
Apr 2010
May 2010
Jun 2010
How to set the default value to the current month (Jun 2010). I don't want to use "specific value". I want to use the "SQL Result" for populating the default value.
Appreciate your helphi,
you can create a Repository variable current_month with the expression as
select to_char(trunc(sysdate),'Mon')from dual
and use this in the prompt "Default to" Server variable and use this repository variable.
hope this helps.

How to set sysdate as default date in dashboard prompt
Hi all
I want to set default date(sysdate) in dashboard prompt. How to do that.
I have not done this before.
tell me in clear.
Thanks in advance.Hi Anand,
The formatting of the data is not something you can change in the variable expression. It is dependent on the data type of the column you used in the prompt. For example, if your prompted column is a DATE data type in your repository file, then you will NOT see a timestamp. However, if your source column is defined as a DATETIME object, then it will always add in a timestamp, even if that timestamp is 12:00:00.
If you don't want a timestamp, go into your repository and in your physical layer, change the datatype of your column from DATETIME to DATE. And in the prompt, keep using the syntax: @{system.currentTime}\[MM/DD/YYYY\]
Good luck and if you find this useful, please award points!

Analysis prompt vs. dashboard prompt for setting presentation variable
I have a requirement to include a prompt on the analysis (not dashboard) to select a year. This sets a variable when is then used in Report A. I then use the variable for a column filter, which passes 3 parameters to Report B.
If doing this using a dashboard prompt, everything works as expected. The variable and other row items are used in Report A and passed to the Report B via a Navigate to BI Content Action Link. When using the analysis prompt to set the presentation variable Report A works but then I get this error when navigating to Report B.
An invalid object was accessed during evaluation.
Error Details
Error Codes: QBB4RZQS:SDKE4UTFI have a report in which I use Oracle analytic functions. But I have to show only subset of all records because of analytic functions. In case of ListBox I use a presentation variable in a FILTER(expr1 USING expr2). How may I do this in case of multiselect prompt? It doesn't support presentation values.

Dashboard Prompt -- One Column Setting Multiple Presentation Variables
Hi everyone,
I've been playing with dashboard prompts, trying to get a deeper understanding of how the function.
I created three dashboard prompts, all on the same column, account number. Each prompt defaults to a different value i.e. 1,2 and 3 respectively. Each prompt sets up a different presentation variable. PVAR1, PVAR2 and PVAR3 respectively.
I created a report that referenced the three variables i.e. '@{PVAR1}', '@{PVAR2}', '@{PVAR3}'.
I put all three prompts and the one report in a dashboard.
When I view it, all of the prompts have the same value, value 2, however, only PVAR3 is setup. PVAR1 and PVAR2 are blank.
Why aren't all three presentation variables set to the same value? Why is only one populated?
Thanks for the help!
-JoeHi Joe,
Thanks for posting this interesting question, I played around and found the same issue.
This is my finding and hoping that this makes sense, The PV variables are set only when you hit a Go button. As there are 3 prompts in the question and all the prompts are build on the same column hence the values of the columns are the same, but only one variable is set. In my opinion the last prompt which got executed.
I tried the similar thing with one more prompt with one Go button and VAR1 and VAR2 values got set but VAR3 was still black. But the 2 prompts had the same values.
I believe since its the same column on which these prompts are build hence the issue of setting the values.
Hope this helps,

Can you control format when setting variable from dashboard prompt?
I'm setting a session variable from a calendar date prompt in a dashboard prompt, and the variable is referenced in a calculation in the business model. I'm initializing the date prompt from another variable which returns format TIMESTAMP 'YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00', and the initial load of the dashboard is successful. After changing the value of the date prompt, the query fails because the prompt sets the variable to 'mm/dd/yyyy'.
My question is: Is there any way to control the formatting when setting a variable from a dashboard prompt? I would like to get the timestamp format.
Thanks,
GregIf You wants time than in dashboard prompt's coloumn formula use cast function as "cast(date as time)" if date than "cast(date_col_name as date)". But I also have that one problem.Firstly tell me, Is it possible that using two dates in using betwwen operator in dashboard. We access server variable. If not working one thing more that u should have filter on date coloumn in report layout. And in action coloumn u select prompted. Than It will must work.
Thanks

Hide values on dashboard prompt and set defaults
I have a prompt with 3 values,
1) Year-Qtr
2) Year-Qtr Start Date
3) Year-Qtr End Date
2 and 3 are constrained based off of what is in the Year-Qtr drop down. How can I get 2 and 3 to automatically have the values set and also be hidden to the user.
Is this possible?Check this thread out for different ways of hiding dashboard prompts which is already posted in our forums:
Hide dashboard prompts
And regarding the populating the default values based on the value selected in the other prompt is not possible. The default value will always be a hardcoded vaule which can be in the form of presentation variable or sql results or an expression.
Hope it helps

Unexpected behavior with dashboard prompts set to "scope = page". Help
Hello,
I've got three dashboard pages that have a prompt with start/end dates set using ST_DT and END_DT presentation variables. Each of those pages has a report with a column that drills to the same 4th page, a detail report. Each page has it's dashboard prompt scope set to "Page."
I can switch freely between the first three tabs and enter different dates, run the reports, and the prompt dates aren't overwriting each other between tabs. However, if i drill to the detail page from any of those reports and then switch back, the start/end dates prompts are suddenly being overwritten.
Now i know we can prevent this at the report level by using "protect filter," but how does one protect a prompt? To further explain, all three summary pages use the same presentation variables, ST_DT and END_DT. However these presentation variables are not used on the detail page, so i'm not sure why drilling there suddenly breaks the prompt scope and sets it to behave like "Dashboard."Update,
I was using ST_DT and END_DT as the presentation variables for each tab. I tried giving them unique names on each tab and they're still getting set if I drill to the detail tab. Since prompts are set to scope I'd expect them to not be set by the detail tab. -
How to set Default to in Dashboard Prompt from presentation variable value
Hi all BI Gurus,
I am trying to come out from my problem from last two days and I am not able to find the solution.
Here is my problem.
I am having two dashboard pages in one dashboard. Both pages contains dashboard prompt. Now from the first page’s prompt I had set a presentation variable and I want to use that presentation variable’s value in to prompt’ s default value which is used in my second dashboard page.
I am hoping I can do that with Server variable or variable expression, but don’t know the proper way. I tried a lot with both but not able to find the solution.
Could any help me please?
Regards,Hi David,
Thanks for replying. I really appreciate it.
Yes I am using the same column.
Let me provide you more details regarding my problem,
I am having one dashboard prompt for gender and it's default value is 'Female' so I am assigning that value in to presentation variable PV_GENDER with set variable option in prompt.
Now in my second prompt which I am using on second page of same dashboard, I am trying to assign that value 'Female' ( or the one that user had selected ) with the help or that presentation variable PV_GENDER in Default to. I tried all options (e.g. Variable Expression, Server Variable, SQL Result ) but I am not able to get that value.
If you need more detail just let me know.
Once again thanks for replying. -
Row limit in Dashboard Prompts - OBIEE 11g?
Hi,
In dashboard prompts values are shown as sets of 256 and I know it can be customizable but my question is..."Is there any limit on records to extract as we have it in Analysis"? If yes, what is the max limit and where to configure this?
Thanks in advance.Hi Nagireddy, thanks for your reply.
Is there any limit of values to extract in Dashboard prompt? i.e. when you use drop down list as Dashboard prompt, is there any limit of values to extract from database?
In my local environment (instanceconfig.xml), there is limit of Rows to View and Download set to 20K, however I did not see anything related to the Dashboard Prompt. -
How to get the value of multi-select in the Dashboard Prompt
I have a multi-select prompt in the Dashboard Prompt, what I want is, how do I know that user has choose one value,
for examle, for some reasons, if user didn't choose any value, then I will set one column in answer as "customer office" , if user choose one value, then the column in answer will be "customer name".
any comments, thanks.Hi,
first define the presentation variable for the required column prompt. ex: PV
Then in report level set the filter for that column = @{PV}{customer office}. here u have to give default value as "customer office", so by default the report in dashboard will show customer office even though the user does not select any value from dashboard prompt.
Mark If Helpful/correct.
Thanks. -
Resetting Selection from a Multi-Select Dashboard Prompt in OBIEE 11g
Hi all,
I have a dashboard prompt, containing 3 columns which all are set to allow multi selection and default value is all values.
In 10g, after choosing some values in one of the prompt and clicking Go button, I can manually remove all my selection to reset it back to the default value (which is all values).
In 11g, however, I am not able to find how to do it. The reset button doesn't reset back to the default value (which is all values). So what I have to do is to use the "Clear All Customization", which will clear all my selection for all the prompts.
Any suggestion on how to do this? Thanks in advance!Hi Deepak, actually I don't need any script to do that in 10g.
It's a built in feature in 10g. If you remember, for multiselect prompt in 10, we will click the "..." button to show the box for value selection. Then we can move values from left box to the right to include them, or vice versa to not include them. So by moving the values from right box to the left, I essentially revert to default value which mean all values will be shown.
In 11g, this box is not shown anymore, instead we are checking the values one by one from a drop down list.
Any suggestion? Thanks.
