Setting Date in ORACLE Server.

Hi All,
How to set date for ORACLE server. I.e usually we set the date for system in the system properties or go to control panel and set it in DATE & Time section on a windows PC. But during various circumstatnces i am not given permission to do it and every time i need to do this. Is there a way to achieve this without touching the server date & time. So that when ever i use SYSDATE that will return the date which i have set.
Note - I have already gone through FIXED_DATE built in available in ORACLE.
Would like to know other possibilities for achieving my requirement.
Thanks in advance.

Changing the init.ora >> NLS_DATE_FORMAT="DD-MM-YYYY" would do the needful.
Edited by: Sanju P Ommen on Feb 11, 2010 4:07 AMThat does NOT change the date. It only changes the default format by which date values are returned to users.

  • Get date from Oracle when local time zone is different from Oracle time zon

    Hi!
    Local machine time zone= +2
    Oracle time zone= +1
    I set date to Oracle using java.sql.Date.
    From application I save date at 00:30 clock and send e.g. 28.06.2002, but in Oracle date is save as 27.06.2002 01:00 (hour=01 , I suppose that is because java.sql.Date hasn't time the Oracle set it time = time zone=+1) And when I get date from Oracle I get incorrect date. In SQL I don't use date masks. Maybe solution is to use java.sql.Timestamp object (when save date to Oracle) instead of java.sql.Date?
    But if I save date at e.g. 01:00 clock and send e.g. 28:06.2002 in Oracle, date is save as 28.06.2002 01:00 and when I read from Oracle I get correct date.

  • Insert data into oracle based on sql server data(here sql server acting as source to oracle and destination to oracle)

    Source is Oralce. Destination is SQL Server.
    Requirement - I have to fetch sql server server data (empid's) based emp table  and send this as input data to oracle to fetch and empid's are common.
    I cannot use merge or loopkup or for each as oracle have too many records.
    For example - In MS SQL - i have empid=1,2..Only these records, I have to fetch from oracle source into sql server destination. For this, I have adopted the below approaches...The major problem I face, when i build a empid's as a string, it is taking only
    4000 chars. My string lenght is 10000. How do I breakup this string lengh and send to data flow task till all broken strings length passed to DFT.
    Approach-1
    created two variables - oraquery string, empid string
    step1 - ms sql database - created sql task - declare @empid varchar(max)
    SELECT @empid=
    Stuff((SELECT ',' + empid
            FROM
            (SELECT  DISTINCT  convert(varchar(10),empid ) empid FROM emp
             ) x
            For XML PATH ('')),1,1,'')
    select @empid =    '(' +  @empid + ')'
    select @empid
    resultset=singlerow
    resultset=resultname=0; variablename=User::empid (empid is declared as string)
    step2 - oracle database - created data flow task
    created oledb source
    I put  this statemnt in oraquery expression - "select * from dept where dept in  "
    +  @[User::empid] + "
    expression=true
    [OLE DB Source [1]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.
    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle"  Hresult: 0x80040E14  Description: "ORA-00936: missing expression".
    Approach-2
    created three variables - oraquery string, empid  int, loop object--when I put int then it is automatically setting to 0
    step1 - ms sql database - created sql task - SELECT  DISTINCT  convert(varchar(10),empid ) empid FROM emp
    resultset=fullresult
    resultset=resultname=0; variablename=User::loop
    step2 - created a for each loop container
    for loop editor - for each ado ennumerator
    enumerator configuration - loop
    variablemapping - variable=empid;index=0
    step3 - oracle database - created data flow task (outside for each loop. If I put inside it is taking long time)
    created oledb source
    I put  this statemnt in oraquery expression - "select * from dept where dept in  "
    +  @[User::empid] + "
    expression=true
    Data inserting in a destination table but  empid=0.

    Sorry didnt understand if your step3 is outside loop how
    @[User::empid] will get values for the empids from User::loop. The iteration happens inside loop so you
    need to have a logic to form the delimited list inside using a script task or something and concatenating everything and storing to variable @[User::empid]
    . Then only it will have full value used to be used in step3 query

  • How to transfer BLOB type of data from SQL Server to Oracle

    Hi,
    Actually, I create a table with BLOB type data in SQL server. In fact, there is not exact BLOB type in SQL server, it will be separated to image and ntext types. But there is exact BLOB type in Oracle.
    I don't know how to transfer this "BLOB" type into Oracle with DTS or any other methods.

    The fact that Excel can import a csv file doesn't make it an excel file.
    If you have a csv file then you must use a csv driver or just use other code (not jdbc) to access it. There is, normally, a ODBC (nothing to do with java) text driver that can do that.

  • Inserting Data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time Basis.

    Hi Everyone,
    I need to insert data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time basis, we have to fetch data from oracle approx 20 tables, and each table has more than 30 Fields. I need to fetch data in every 15 mins.
    I have created a job using SQL SERVER Agent by writing insert queries for all the tables with conditions that no rows will be inserted which is already in SQL. note that this job is taking only 1 min to execute.
    But in this way our SQL Server getting hanged and it giving problems to other application running in the SQL SERVER.
    So i m requesting all of you that what is the best way to insert huge amount of data on the real time basis.
    Thanx in Advance.

    1) Create Linked server
    2) insert data using openquery  and set job in sql agent
    3) run job after 15 minutes

  • Move data from sql server v8  to oracle 10g

    I just got urgent projects to migrate the data from MS SQL server 2000 to oracle 10g. The following are requirements:
    Source data/table: MS sql server 2k (version 8) on MS 2000 machine.
    Destination Data/table: oracle 10g (10.1.0.4) on Redhat version 3.
    Total number of tables: < 10 tables and < 1000 rows each tables.
    This is only one time data extraction. No periodically data extraction need.
    Questions:
    What connect method I should use? (odbc or jdbc)
    What if I have image datatype?
    Thanks in advance.

    Use the Oracle Migration Workbench.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
    I think IMAGE will be migrated to BLOB by default.

  • Insert data 32K into a column of type LONG using the oracle server side jdbc driver

    Hi,
    I need to insert data of more than 32k into a
    column of type LONG.
    I use the following code:
    String s = "larger then 32K";
    PreparedStatement pstmt = dbcon.prepareStatement(
    "INSERT INTO TEST (LO) VALUES (?)");
    pstmt.setCharacterStream(1, new StringReader(s), s.length());
    pstmt.executeUpdate();
    dbcon.commit();
    If I use the "standard" oracle thin client driver from classes_12.zip ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@kn7:1521:kn7a") every thing is working fine. But if I use the oracle server side jdbc driver ("jdbc:default:connection:") I get the exception java.sql.SQLException:
    Datasize larger then max. datasize for this type: oracle.jdbc.kprb.KprbDBStatement@50f4f46c
    even if the string s exceeds a length of 32767 bytes.
    I'm afraid it has something to do with the 32K limitation in PL/SQL but in fact we do not use any PL/SQL code in this case.
    What can we do? Using LOB's is not an option because we have client software written in 3rd party 4gl language that is unable to handle LOB's.
    Any idea would be appreciated.

  • Need help in migrating data from SQL Server to Oracle

    Hi,
    I've created a database link in my Oracle Database 11g Express Edition connecting to our SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Database. Now, I'm having issues on migrating some fields. Mostly Text field in SQL Server to CLOB in Oracle. I've created a PL/SQL Procedure to do this but somehow these columns don't get all the value.
    For example:
    In my sql server, I have a table SQLTBL with a field REMARKS of TEXT data type. It has the following value.
    This is line 1.
    This is line 2.
    This is line 3.
    Now I created a table ORCLTBL in oracle with field REMARKS of CLOB data type.
    In my procedure I do something like.
    begin
      for i in ( select "remarks" rem from "dbo"."sqltbl"@sqldb )
      loop
        insert into orcltbl ( remarks ) values (i.rem);
      end loop;
      commit;
    end;
    /When I select the data from oracle it will only show "This is line 1" and disregard the values after the new line character.
    Is there a way to make this work?
    Thanks,
    Allen

    Probably, assuming that there is only One record, SQL server is sending the data as separate rows as opposed to a Single Row.
    Can you provide the Output of below when executed from Oracle terminal? (I hope you understand the motive of query, and pardon my knowledge of SQL Server if the query below does not work :) )
    select count("remarks"), "remarks" rem from "dbo"."sqltbl"@sqldb group by "remarks";

  • What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server?

    Hello MS,
    I would like to export all tables from Oracle 11.2 to MS SQL Server 2012 R1.
    Using the tool "Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Oracle" did not work for me because there are too many warnings and errors regarding the schema creation (MS cannot know it because they are not the schema designer). My idea is
    to leave/skip the schema creation to the application designer/supplier and instead concentrate on the Oracle data export and MS SQL data import.
    What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server quickly?
    Is it:
    - the „MS SQL Import and Export Data“ Tool
    - the “MS SQL Integration Services” Tool
    - not Oracle dump *.dmp format because it is a propritery binary format
    - flat file *.csv (delimited format)
    Thanks!

    Hi lingodingo,
    If you want to directly export all tables from Oracle database to SQL Server, I suggest you use SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Because you just need to follow the wizard with GUI, this is the easiest way.
    If you want to make some modification for the tables‘ data before loading to SQL Server, I suggest you use SQL Server Integration Services package. For more details, please refer to the following similar thread:
