Setting Disk Sleep Timers problems with FCP4.5?

Still experiencing trouble when Printing-To-Tape projects that are over 30 min in length. It usually stops at around 26 minutes. I head something about Disk Sleep Timers. I checked my Mac under About This Mac>More Info>Power...I found that my Disk Sleep Timer is set to 10 minutes and System Sleep Timer is set to 180 minutes. Could this be the problem? Should I reset my Disk Sleep Timer to a longer time? If so, how can I do this?
Also, other mentioned something about Journaling on the disks? What is that? Should they be on or off? How can I check. Please help.

Luis,
You will want to set your sleep to never, screen savers to None, and disk spindown to never.
This is a way to set the disks to never:
In Terminal type:
sudo pmset spindown x
then type your pass word
x=the number of minutes that you want till your drive spins down.
0 is never
More info on using pmset here:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/pmset.1. html
And I found this here
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/sbbod.html
Do a command f and search for "pmset" that is where i first found this.
Note that this is a more 'controlled' way of Putting the hard disk to sleep than possible in
system preferences>energy saver>sleep>Put the hard disk to sleep when possible
In that situation, checked means x=10 and unchecked means, not 0 but 180 minutes.
Also, there are some utilities with a graphical interface that will do this as well.
Good luck.

  • Disk Utility 13 problem with USB drives

There appears to be a problem with Disk Utility 13 (part of OS X 10.9). At least, so far as I can tell, everything traces back to this app, or possibly OS X 10.9 itself.
I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to OS X 10.9 (reformatted hard drive, installed system from scratch, updated with all the latest Apple updates). I pre-checked all my third party software to make sure it was 10.9 compatible before installing it after the system cleanup, so everything I’m running supposedly has been approved as safe for 10.9. But I’m seeing a problem formatting USB drives that I do not encounter when running under 10.8.
I have a Seagate STAA500101 (“FreeAgent GoFlex”) drive connected via Seagate’s USB3 adapter that I’ve used for some time as a Time Machine backup. Post-overhaul, I decided to erase the backup and start fresh. When I attempt to format it (single GUID partition) with Disk Utility, I see the following messages go by:
Formatting disk1s2 as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with name Untitled 1
Could not mount disk1s2 with name (null) after erase
Then there’s a pause, and the format appears to conclude fine. But if I run a “Verify Disk” immediately, I get this:
Verifying partition map for “Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Media”
    Checking prerequisites
    Checking the partition list
Checking for an EFI system partition
Checking the EFI system partition’s size
Checking the EFI system partition’s file system
Checking all HFS data partition loader spaces
Volume  on disk1s2 has 0 bytes of trailing loader space and it needs 134217728 bytes
Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting
Error: Partition map needs repair because a data partition needs loader space.
As the drive has just been formatted, that seemed odd. I took it over to another Mac still running 10.8.5 and formatted it there — it worked just fine. Verified just fine. Took the drive back to my MacBook Air and tried to verify the disk — same failure.
I wanted to rule out bad media, so I took a Lexar 16GB USB flash drive and tried to format it with Disk Utility 13 — got the same problem.
The only success I’ve had formatting USB drives under 10.9 is to boot up into OS X Recovery. Disk Utility there formatted my Seagate drive without an error. But once I booted back into normal 10.9 operating mode, the drive once again fails to verify; it makes me leery about using it as a Time Machine backup.
I suppose it’s possible there could be some background component like Sophos causing problems when formatting drives, but if I format a drive via OS X Recovery or another Mac under 10.8, that wouldn’t explain why the drives fail to verify.
Anyone got any other observations on this issue?

Problem resolved. I'm posting this note for anyone else who might run into this situation and come across this discussion.
It actually did turn out to be Sophos -- Cloud, that is. I'd been using Sophos' free Mac antivirus software on a variety of systems but forgot that I was now testing out Sophos Cloud on my own MacBook, which is their new endpoint solution, and supposed to be compatible with OS X 10.9 (although the Mac version is listed as "beta") Sophos Cloud includes a new feature called Device Control which allows you to create a company-wide policy to control access to hardware such as USB drives, optical drives, etc. But apparently it's still pretty buggy. I had my Device Control configured with the default setting of "monitor but do not block" but it was most definitely gumming up the system. With Sophos Cloud installed, here's what happens if I try to run "Verify Disk" on any attached drive. Note on the left side how "disk2s2" shows as a sub-volume for each hard drive.
So if I uninstall Sophos Cloud, reboot and rescan, here's what I get:
Works fine. Note that the "disk2s2" subvolumes are also gone. This is the way Disk Utility also appears on a 10.8 or 10.9 system, even if you have the standard free Sophos for Mac software installed. It's only Sophos Cloud that's not playing nice. It also appears to have stopped me from being able to play DVDs from an attached Apple USB SuperDrive -- that problem was likewise solved by removing Sophos Cloud.

  • Can't set up an allowance - problems with Apple ID

I'm trying to set up an allowance for my iTunes account.
I logged in as my dad to set up the allowance for my account. However, if I input my Apple ID (which is just a word, not an e-mail address) in the space provided, it tells me the e-mail address is not valid and to enter a complete e-mail address. When I enter the e-mail address associated with my account, it tells me that I need to use an existing Apple ID for recipient's e-mail address.
This is driving me nuts, and I would appreciate any suggestions (other than hurl the computer out the window!)
    Windows XP iTunes 6

I have the same problem with app update, but I already removed this app for a long time since OS X Snow Leopard.
Today, I have updated OSX to 10.10 (Yosemite), some update notification come up that can normally updated from my new iCloud Apple ID but not for this app, it show my old hotmail Apple ID and can't change it. This notification is annoy me. I'm very try to search and find my install from this application but it not on my Macbook anymore. How can I remove this annoy notification.

  • Full start up disk... problem with disk partition.

    Hi,
Ive got an original blueberry ibook which an ex, who considered himself some sort of high flying computer buff, decided to fiddle with... In his vast wisdom he deemed that my ibook would run better if he partitioned the start-up disk. The result being a slow running laptop, constant warnings that my start-up disk is full, a keyboard that doesnt function properly, hence missing characters and being unable to use the delete key.
The message that comes up warning about the start-up disk being full says that I need to delete stuff to make room so that it can run properly. Ive tried going into the disk utility thing but it wont allow me to restore the disk back to its original state. I dont know a huge amount about computers but I have tried deleting all programs I dont use and having a good clear out but it hasnt made an ounce of difference.
Does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem? All suggestions appreciated.

    Hi dancingdryad
The first thing to check is, have you emptied the trash.
Deleting Applications (programs) should not be necessary, rather the space is more likely being taken up by too many of your documents.
The space has been filled up by your own files, generally called documents, but also includes, videos you have downloaded, photos, music. These are files that you have either created or downloaded and these are the things to move.
So look in your Documents folder, in the iTunes and iPhoto applications, for excess photos and music that you can move onto an external drive, or burn to a CD.
And after trashing something, do empty the trash.
If you have a Previous System Folder on the hard drive, you can trash that as well.

  • Sleep wake problems with Yosemite update

I faced a multitude of issues with Yosemite 10.10. Following the 10.10.1 update, some of those were solved, but some still remained, namely those related to the Mail app, where mail server has to be selected manually. However, a new problem has arisen with the update: after going on sleep mode, the system does not wake, and needs to be rebooted. This happens every time, and makes me wonder about Apple's reliability, as it is starting to feel microsoft Vista like. Polishing the looks of the system is fine, bu doing so at the expense of performance, reliability and overall user experience is unacceptable. Looks as if a further update can not come soon enough.

  • Will Disk Utility fix problems with printer connection?

helping a friend with stripes in printing. iMac does see her multifunction printer, but the results have stripes in them when printed from computer. If she copies or scans a sheet and prints it, there are no stripes in the print.
We used to fix these problems by rebuilding the desktop... but, that is not available since we went to OSX...
So I thought I would use Verify Permissions in Disk Utility...
    Any ideas?

Hello, Verify Permissions will do nothing, but possibly Disk Repair followed by Permission Repair, but...
It sounds more like a Hardware problem, but to test that theory 90% anyway, in the Print Dialog choose Preview... does it show stripes in the Preview?

  • Sleep (wakeup) problems with 2x 2 GB RAM

    Hi,
my old problem still persists, but the thread is archived. Please have a look at
Topic : Does not wake up from sleep after some time
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1451042&tstart=0
    and answer here.
PS: Is there some official way to contact Apple with this problem? I have the strong feeling this is not the right place to get solutions.
    Thanks,
    Carsten

    Hallo Carsten,
    1. You can try calling AppleCare by telephone. Even if you don't have AppleCare, you may at least be able to talk with a human representative from Apple
If they refuse to help you, they may at least have a suggestion about what to do or who to contact with your problem.
    AppleCare in Deutschland: (49) 01805 009 433
    Montag bis Freitag - 8:00 bis 19:45
    Samstag- 10:00 bis 17:45 Uhr
    2. You could visit the Apple retail store in München, although it is not likely practical if you live in Aachen
    3. Apple Autorisierter Service Providers (AASPs) within or near Aachen should be able to talk directly with Apple, on your behalf. Search for Deutsch AASPs here: <http://www.apple.com/de/buy/locator>.
For example, I found a store in Köln called Simply Mac <http://www.simplymac.de>.
Of course you should call in advance to see if the AASP can address your problem.
I hope you have success finding someone to speak with.

  • Sleep/wake Problem with 15" MBP

    Hey guys,
Just recently, my MacBook Pro has been acting up on me whenever I open it to wake it from sleep. The screen will wake for about 2 seconds and then will go back to sleep. The only way to get the screen back is by hitting the button that lowers the brightness then I have to hit the brightness increase button to get it back to normal which is getting really annoying.
When I put it to sleep with the screen open by hitting the power button, it'll wake up perfectly fine. The problem only occurs when I take it out of sleep by lifting the screen.
Has anyone experienced this before and is it an easy fix?
    -Thanks

I just tried unplugging the charger and it comes awake with no issues at all, just comes up black when plugged in and have to use the brightness buttons to wake screen.....hmmmm

I did a little searching before i posted and it seems like the trouble doesn't have to do with the laptop itself it has to do with some sort of glitch in Lion. Does anyone know of any settings that i can change that can make this problem go away?

  • Sleep/wake problems with j9 PPro10&WM2003

My main headache is that if my app is running and the unit goes to sleep, sometimes it won't wake back up.

A more specific question I have is:
Does the J9 fire any events when the unit it's running on "wakes up"? I've tried some of the events available through the AWT, but nothing seems to fire when the unit returns from sleep.

  • Receiver determination - Xpath expression problem with count

I am working with a scenario where I pick up records from a JDBC connection and if the number of records I pick up is less than a certain number I want to call a webservice.  If it is greater than the number I want to write out a file to be processed by a different process on the receiving end.  I have created the receiver determination condition with the following conditions:
    (/p1:MT_HOG_Data/row[count(row) > 3] EX)
    (/p1:MT_HOG_Data/row[count(row) <= 3] EX)
The integration is always processing the second condition no matter how many records come in.  I have tried with and without the multiline option.  Can anyone help with this?
I have searched through the forum and checked the following links without any resolution:
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/XpathConditioninReceiverDetermination
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/EN/ab/13bf7191e73a4fb3560e767a2525fd/frameset.htm
    /people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/06/07/customise-your-xpath-expressions-in-receiver-determination
I can't find any examples where a count of records is checked in the expression editor.  Thanks in advance for any help.

You can not use the EX operator in that case, because that is used only for node existence checks, not for value checks.
Do you have a row number in your structure ? Then you could write the xpath expression with that counter tag and value
Example: you want to send to receiver A if count > 3, else to B:
you set  /rowNumber EQUAL 4 for sender A
and /rowNumber NOT EQUAL 4 for sender B
The condition is applied to the whole document. If one of the node/values are true for that condition, then the whole condition is set to true.
Problem with that is that the second condition also will be true because nodes for that condition will be found
better would be to have a rowcount tag in the structure. If that is not possible, you can use the "Enhanced Receiver determination" where you can define a mapping which determines the receivers. There you can do anything complicated you want.
