Setting input fields to an empty string BIG PROBLEM

Hi Rob, thanks for your rerply, It makes sense alright, but I am using 2 seperate input fields. I have discovered what is causing the problem .
After the user types into the inputfield and moves on to a different frame, I have set the input field to an empty string and this is what is causing the problem.
I have tried setting the input field to an empty string in a movie script and on individual sprites and the first right answer is not excepted.I have to type in the right answer twice to get get a right response. I am actually using three seperate input fields in total, each with a different name and behavior. Even If I use one input field I still have the same problem. Its driving me crazey. Any Ideas.
Anne

I believe that the FIM Service always does trims on string, so you may be out of luck.
What is your scenario / what are you trying to accomplish by setting a space in an attribute? A space is not an empty string in my definition.

  • Setting input field restrictions.

    without using a text box component, is it possible to add
    restrictions to a basic input field?
    Basically I have this input field and I would like to
    restrict the value to be >= 1000. So when a user enters a
    number, it must be between 1000-100,000.
    Also how do I set a minimum and maximum number of characters
    for the field?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to set price field in requisite to string

    hi,
    concerning requisite. 3.5/88 or 4.0
    the problem:
    we've got products in our master material data, which have no price assigned. hence we want a note in requisite, 'NA'. At least we don't want a '0.00' price - as buyers tend to look for zero prices and buy such stuff, believing it's all for free...
    in a data record there is of course a field 'price', which you can configure in emerge under catalog structure -- common attributes. the attribute type is set to currency. beforehand we changed it to string with the result, that the price attribute didn't show up anymore. i read that YOU MUST NOT change the settings for the price attribute. But how do we achieve the 'NA' entry, if in fact the price is 0.00 ???
    help appreciated,
    regards, matthias

    Hi Esaki,
    1) Define new field selection in configuration "Define screen layout at Document level"
    2) write code in fieldselection_item_refkeys as follow
    get item data
    if your condition
      ch_key0 = new field selection
    endif
    Hope it can help u.

  • How to set focus on invisible input field?

    Hi Guys,
    I need an invisible input field and have to set an input focus on it. My problem is that if I set input field’s property visible=blank, I get my invisible field <b>BUT</b> the function call doesn’t work (setInput.requestFocus()).
    I suppose that I can’t set a focus if an input field is invisible.
    Does somebody know how can I solve my problem? Is there a possibility to do this input field invisible with java script? If yes, how does it work in Web Dynpro?
    Thanks
    Marita

    Hi
      Setting a focus on invisible input field will not work even if you follow the method what sowjanya has suggested. The method wdThis.wdGetAPI().requestFocus() will not work for read-only and disabled fields.
    By the way why do you want to set the focus on a invisible input field. If you can tell us the requirement maybe we could think of an alternate solution. But i guess for the current scenario setting focus on invisible input field does not work.

  • Using Convert to handle NULL values for empty Strings ""

    After having had the problem with null values not being returned as nulls and reading some suggestion solution I added a converter to my application.
      <converter>
        <converter-id>NullStringConverter</converter-id>
        <converter-for-class>java.lang.String</converter-for-class>
        <converter-class>com.j2anywhere.addressbookserver.web.NullStringConverter</converter-class>
      </converter>
    ...I then implemented it as follows:
      public String getAsString(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object object)
        System.out.println("Converting to String : "+object);
        if (object == null)
          System.out.println("READING null");
          return "NULL";
        else
          if (((String)object).equals(""))
            System.out.println("READING null (Second Check)");
            return null;
          else
            return object.toString();
      public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value)
        System.out.println("Converting to Object: "+value+"-"+value.trim().length());
        if (value.trim().length()==0 || value.equals("NULL"))
          System.out.println("WRITING null");
          return null;
        else
          return value.toUpperCase();
    ...I can see that it is converting my values, however the object to which the inputText fields are bound are still set to empty strings ""
    <h:inputText size="50" value="#{addressBookController.contactDetails.information}" converter="NullStringConverter"/>Also when reading the object values any nulls are already converted to empty strings before ariving at the converter. It seems that there is a default converter handling string values.
    How can I resolve this problem as set nulls when the input value is an empty string other then checking every string in my class individually. I would really hate to pollute my object model with empty string tests.
    Thanks in advance
    Edited by: j2anywhere.com on Oct 19, 2008 9:06 AM

    I changed my converter as suggested :
      public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value)
        if (value == null || value.trim().length() == 0)
          if (component instanceof EditableValueHolder)
            System.out.println("SUBMITTED VALUE SET TO NULL");
            ((EditableValueHolder) component).setSubmittedValue(null);
          else
            System.out.println("COMPONENT :"+component.getClass().getName());
          System.out.println("Converting to Object: " + value + "< to " + null);
          return null;
        System.out.println("Converting to Object: " + value + "< to " + value);
        return value;
      }which produces the following output :
    SUBMITTED VALUE SET TO NULL
    Converting to Object: < to null
    Info : The INFO line however comes from my controller object where I print out the set value :
    package com.simple;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.List;
    public class Controller
      private String information;
      /** Creates a new instance of Controller */
      public Controller()
        System.out.println("Createing Controller");
        information = "Constructed";
      public String process()
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";
      public String reset()
        setInformation("Re-Constructed");
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";
      public String setNull()
        setInformation(null);
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";

  • How to distinguish NULL and Empty Strings

    Hi,
    Just to set the context right; I'm an experienced C programmer trying labview for the first time. As such I ran in to a problem being that Labview has no concept of NULL-pointers and more specifically appears to have no concept of the difference between a NULL-string and an empty-string
    I'm trying to make a structure (bundle) of strings (in it's most basic form key-value pairs) which i'd like to (for instance) URI encode in order to send it to a web server. For those who are not familiar with URI encoding; there is a distinguished difference between setting a key to an empty string and setting a key with no value. In C I would use a pointer to an empty string vs a NULL string pointer to symbolize this.
    In essence I need an elegant way to distinguish between a defined but empty string and an undefined string (hmmm this is actually describing the same problem but now in terms of perl).
    Anybody have any pointers (pun not intended) for me ?

    This is a bit depending on the interface you have with your encoder. The whole issue is that LV has no pointers at all (and you will like it, as you will never have any Null-Pointer exeptions and the like).
    Assuming that you use a dll (so the Call Library node).
    Use CString as input -> NULL-Terminated String.
    Use I32 as input and pass 0 -> NULL string.

  • SQL query for empty string

    I am trying to execute the following SQl query, SELECT * FROM Failure WHERE ID = '123' AND RepairAction = ' ';, using the DB Tools Execute Query.vi. This query never finds the record in my database. My database contains a record where the ID filed contains the value of '123' and the RepairAction field is an empty string. If I remove the 'AND RepairAction ' ';' text from my query statement, the record is found. I believe my problem is that I am not using the correct syntax to describe and empty string. I have tried the following: '', ' ', "", " ", and NULL as empty string arguments, and none of these work.
    I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the correct syntax is for an empty string or if there is another approach I need to take.
    Thank you in advance for your help,
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    While creating your table "Failure", was the column "ID" delclared as intiger or varchar? If it is intiger and you use '123' , it wont return the results. You will have to try without the inverted comas ' '.

    Hi Shamila,
    I have a context node by name NODE & it has 10 attributes like NODE_1, NODE_2,... NODE_10 under it. All these attributes are of type STRING. So you just have to put the below code into WDDOMODIFYVIEW to get 10 input fields & labels displayed. These input fields would show any string that you have maintained for each attribute using the "Default Value" property.
    METHOD wddomodifyview .
      DATA :  lr_container TYPE REF TO cl_wd_uielement_container,

I check the temperature in BIOS setup whenever I catch it resetting, and the CPU temp (CPU is 1700+ XP) is always between 140 and 150, not an unusual temperature (is it?)
    I got to thinking that maybe the temperature does have something to do with it, so I set to blowing out the dust, thinking that should help. So I blow all around with some canned air, I close it back up, and turn it on - but something else happens. During POST the computer freezes, right at the line where it tells you how much memory you have. I reboot. It works. I run the system restore from the XP installation CD from boot, thinking "just in case it was Windows crashing all along". It freezes in mid-operation. I also start to smell something burning, you know that horrible smell of plastic burning, I'm sure. Now I panic and shut it down. I crack it open trying to determine where the smell is coming from, but can't figure out where. I boot again, with the case open, hoping to catch a stronger smell (suspecting the PSU.) Instead of booting it beeps in my ear, several very long beeps. I can't tell if they are supposed to be one continuous beep, so I can't tell what they are supposed to mean. The manual doesn't have an entry for that code. The lights in back showed one green light in the upper left, all others red. The manual says that means "Early Chipset Initialization". What the hell does that mean?
    Can anyone here put these symptoms together for me and tell me what is wrong with my computer? Did I just cause another problem when I used the canned air, or was this likely a new symptom of whatever problem was causing the random reboots? Is the problem likely the PSU? Thanks.

    Okay so I think I jumped to conclusions with my last message. I was tired, it was a long day, I wanted to make some quick progress in little time before I crashed (no pun intended.)
    Since the configuration Slot 1: Crucial stick, Slot 2: Kingston stick, Slot 3: empty caused big problems, and Slot 1: Crucial stick, Slots 2 and 3: empty, did not, I started to wonder if I could be jumping to another conclusion, and if the problem could be on the motherboard somehow. So I tried the configuration Slot 1: Kingston stick, Slots 2 and 3: empty, and it POSTS fine! And just to confirm, I stick the Crucial stick into Slot 2, and the thing won't POST properly. First three attempts, the computer won't even activate the monitor, the fourth and fifth, it does activate the monitor, but the initial BIOS screen (the one where the memory is checked in the POST when you disable quick boot) looks all corrupted-like, with strange characters littered across the screen. I stuck the Crucial in Slot 3 to see what that would do, and the first time it freezes around 88MB during the RAM check (I left quick boot disabled), the second time it POSTS successfully.
    So maybe something on the motherboard went bad such that using Slots 2 and 3 causes these problems. This model is pretty old, so does this problem sound familiar? Is it possible? I don't know the hardware architecture well enough to guess whether it's likely.
    (I have BIOS revision 2.7)
    EDIT: And after trying all those configurations, going back to the original configuration, (Slot 1: Crucial, Slot 2: Kingston), it STILL beeps at me like before.
    EDIT EDIT: *sigh* and now, trying the second configuration again (Slot 1: Crucial, Slots 2 and 3 empty) just so I can use the computer again, I get errors when I try to boot. Booting to the OS I already had installed, I get the Windows screen with the moving blue boxes, and then after that nothing, and whenever I try to install a new copy of the OS from disc or repair I get a BSOD. It says IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I've no idea what that means.

  • PHP Show if hides update fields, but they get overwritten with an empty string

    I have an issue with a page where some update fields are displayed depending on who is logged, for example:
    <?php if ($row_Users['UserID']=="101"){ ?>
    <input <?php if (!(strcmp($row_lodges['101_finalist'],"Yes"))) {echo "checked=\"checked\"";} ?> type="checkbox" name="101_finalist"  value="Yes"/>
    <input type="text" class="rankfield" name="101_rank" value="<?php echo($row_lodges['101_rank']); ?>" />
    <?php }  ?>
    <?php if ($row_Users['UserID']=="102"){ ?>
    <input <?php if (!(strcmp($row_lodges['102_finalist'],"Yes"))) {echo "checked=\"checked\"";} ?> type="checkbox" name="102_finalist"  value="Yes"/>
    <input type="text" class="rankfield" name="102_rank" value="<?php echo($row_lodges['102_rank']); ?>" />
    <?php }  ?>
    The issue I have is that if User101 is logged in and updates fields 101_finalist and 101_rank, it overwrites 102_finalist and 102_rank with an empty string.
    Is it possible to prevent each user from seeing the other fields for other users, and prevent the existing values for those other users not be overwritten?
    Hope that makes sense!
    Thank you.

    That would mean multiple nominations when really there only needs to be one nomination per category in any given country.
    It would be:
    1, 345, 101, Borana Lodge, 7, 2, Yes, 1
    1, 345, 102, Borana Lodge, 7, 2, Yes, 3
    1, 345, 103, Borana Lodge, 7, 2, No, NULL
    Instead of:
    1, 345, Borana Lodge, 7, 2, Yes, 1, Yes, 3, No, NULL
    Sorry, Lodge isn't in the nominations table, the list above is what is displayed on the site. Lodge gets looked up in the Ldoges table.
    At the moment it works like this:
    People can visit a website and vote for lodges in different categories, giving them a score out of 10 for each.
    If a lodge gets a vote in a particular category an admin person creates a nomination for that lodge, in that category.
    And the last bit is where judges login and tag the ones they think should be finalists.

  • I have set form fields as User required and yet the form still prints/save when empty.

    I have set form fields as User required and yet the form still prints/save when empty. I also have an email button on the form but that works correctly by not allowing the user to email the form with the required fields empty.
    What script do I need to additionally restrict both printing and saving if the required fields are empty?
     You would think that just setting that option would restrict those functions the same as it does for the email button.
    Please be specific with your response if you are gracious enough to offer one. I have been searching the forum all morning for the answer to this and I really didn't understand any of the solutions offered to others enough to use those in my own form.
    The required fields are:
    Social (social security number)
    Name
    Headquarters
    Residence
    The next question I have is if there is a way to make individual signature fields mandatory if they are digital signatures?
     In other words, I don't want the individual to be able to email the form to the next person if he/she hasn't applied their digital signature.

    Saving can always be done, even when mandatory fields are empty.  This is by design.  And that is correct.  Suppose you have a big form and 2 people need to fill it out.  How can you fill out a first part and then send it to the second person without saving.
    Same for printing.  Same for your signature fields.
    What I would do, is to put a "watermark" on the form that you show on preSave and prePrint if the form is incomplete.  Just a static text on your form.  Then the user will see that they need to do more.  Also, on preSave and prePrint, you can show a warning popup to tell the user about the missing fields.  You can then still cancel their action if the user decides not to save/print anyway.

  • How to set  Date in input field by hard coding in application

    Hi all,
    1.I have to make a date(its my choice to set the date) to appear in input field which is date type.
    2.How to compare two numbers of type decimal. for example greatest of two numbers
    urgent requirement

    Hi
    Check the http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/sql/Date.html
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/Calendar.html
    Sample Code
    Date now = new Date();
          DateFormat df = DateFormat.getDateInstance();
          String s = df.format(now);
          System.out.println("Today is " + s);
    java.sql.Date descends from java.util.Date, but uses only the year, month and day values. There are two methods to create a Date object. The first uses a Calendar object, setting the year, month and day portions to the desired values. The hour, minute, second and millisecond values must be set to zero. At that point, Calendar.getTime().getTime() is invoked to get the java.util.Date milliseconds. That value is then passed to a java.sql.Date constructor:
        Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
        // set Date portion to January 1, 1970
        cal.set( cal.YEAR, 1970 );
        cal.set( cal.MONTH, cal.JANUARY );
        cal.set( cal.DATE, 1 );
        cal.set( cal.HOUR_OF_DAY, 0 );
        cal.set( cal.MINUTE, 0 );
        cal.set( cal.SECOND, 0 );
        cal.set( cal.MILLISECOND, 0 );
        java.sql.Date jsqlD =
           new java.sql.Date( cal.getTime().getTime() );
    The second method is java.sql.Date's valueOf method. valueOf() accepts a String, which must be the date in JDBC time escape format - "yyyy-mm-dd". For example,
        java.sql.Date jsqlD = java.sql.Date.valueOf( "2010-01-31" );
    creates a Date object representing January 31, 2010. To use this method with a Calendar object, use:
        java.sql.Date jsqlD = java.sql.Date.valueOf(
                cal.get(cal.YEAR) + ":" +
                cal.get(cal.MONTH) + ":" +
                cal.get(cal.DATE) );
    which produces a Date object with the same value as the first example.

  • Setting the cursor on a particular input field in module pool

    Hi,
    I am working on an abap module program, the requirement is the cursor should be placed on a particular field at run time.
    In detail:  Table contains zserialno primary key field, zemailid of char type.
    Screen design: 1st text input field is zserialno
                             2nd field zemailid is splitted into 3 input text fields.
    For 2nd field zemailid 1st input field allows user to enter his/her email name, 2nd input field is an drop down which contains domain names and 3rd field is an empty field which is to be triggered on user action.
    example: zemailid- 1st input field  XYZ 2nd input field conatains @gm../@yah....and others. If user selects on others value in drop down of 2nd input field, the cursor should point the 3rd input field which allows the  user to enter his/her other domain.
    I used
    SET CURSOR FIELD <3rd inpu field namet>.
    , but the cursor pointing the key field of the table zserialno even the input field of zserialno was provided with a value.
    Any idea on this is appreciated.

    Hi Sona,
    F1:
    Effect:
    During PBO processing, this statement sets the cursor in the screen layout of the current screen. The cursor can be positioned by entering a screen element after FIELD or by entering a specific position using col and lin. Outside of PBO processing, the cursor is positioned in the next list displayed on the screen.
    If the SET CURSOR statement is not specified, depending on the definition of the screen, the cursor is set according to the following hierarchy:
        On the cursor position determined statically in the screen properties,
        On the first input field of the screen,
        On the first screen element of the screen,
        On the command field in the systemtoolbar.
    The latter also applies if the command field in the system toolbar is not displayed.
    I'm convinced your code works as designed.
    Let us know your PBO module and code.

  • SQLLDR - how to set a default value for an empty string

    I'm using SQLLDR to load data from a flat file on Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 EE, Linux RHEL 4 update 6. Seems like my question is simple, but darned if I can't find the solution.
    My source file (comma delimited extracted form a different RDBMS) has some (not all) rows where the output for a string is "", and not NULL. How do I check for empty string and add a default value in the control file? The target column is non-nullable
    Here's my current control file - however, the column attributeName where sometimes the source record is "" does not get evaluated as NULL.
    load data
    infile 'mydata.del'

    When I tried decode with "", I received the following error:
    {code}SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 11.
    Expecting "," or ")", found ", 'none')".
    attributeName "decode(:vc_attributeName,"", 'none')", {code}
    This does not work either:

    discardfile 'mydata.dsc'
