Setting locals from labview

Hi,
I have asetup module in labview operator interface. Iam getting the type of UUT in the setup. I want to update this type value into a locals variable in teststand from labview. How to perform this?
I want to update a locals variable from labview programmatically.

  • Error message from labview when trying to set up the DAQ assistant

    I recieve a message from labview when I try to set up the DAQ assistant and select a channel to use. The error I get states "An exception occured within the external code called by a Call Library Node. This might have corrupted LabView's memory. Save any work to a new location and restart labview". Labview then freezes. I have reset the DAQ device in trying to slove this but I still get the same message. How do I solve this?? thanks - mars2006

    Hi Mars-
    It sounds like your NI-DAQ installation may have become corrupted. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the DAQmx 7.4 driver to correct this problem and ensure that you're up to date. This download is available here: NI-DAQ 7.4
    If the problem persists you may want to uninstall and reinstall LabVIEW and then NI-DAQ in that order. The error message will usually give an indication as to which VI the error occurred in. Please let us know which VI is failing if you're unable to avoid the error with these suggestions.
    Have a good day-

  • Read Locals (using ParallelModel) from LabVIEW

    Hi
    I'm trying to read Locals from a ParallelModel execution using LabVIEW.
    I thought this might work:
    ThisContext.Thread.GetSequenceContext(1).Locals."NameOfLocal", but it did't work
    Any suggestions?
    regards
    Richard

    Hi,
    You need to used the Execution reference for the TestSocket.
    Get a reference to the Thread and use Thread.GetSequenceContext() to get a reference to the SequenceContext.
    Get a PropertyObject from the SequenceContext using SequenceContext.AsPropertyObject() then you can use the GetVal or SetVal methods.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I set the text orientation in a Microsoft Word table cell from LabVIEW?

    In a table in Word (Office 2010) it's possible to change the text orientation in a cell (if you right click on a cell, it's the 'Text Direction...' option).
    Has anyone figured out how to do this from LabVIEW?  I took a quick look at doing it via ActiveX, but haven't find the correct property/method.  Next step is to try .net.

    Previous post shows the constant values for Excel (my mistake). The following code will change the text orientation for a whole table in Word.

  • Problem of security using ADO from Labview to connect to Access 2000 Data Base

    I have a problem using ADO from Labview to connect to Access 2000 Data Base.
    First I open a ADO_DB_Engine and create a Workspace as an ODBCDirect. After I execute the open_data_base using the workspace. Here you can specify the parameter connect with /type of connection / user / password.
    The problem is the following:
    Although you configure a password for the Administrator user in Access, you can read/writte to data base from Labview using ADO without any security and without putting the user and password in the parameter connect. I need to access with security to data base using users and permissions but it seems that the parameter connect does not operate.
    I attach

    Hi Kahn,
    If you use ADODB_connection -> Connection.Open and set in connection string :
    "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Jet OLEDBystem Database=c:\.....\Protegida5.mdw; Password=pepe;user ID=jose; Data Source:c:\......\BD5.mdb";
    and after connection.execute ->
    INSERT INTO tabla1 VALUES (5,'XXX'
    you will be able to access to the database with security using the provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0. With this provider you have to use the path and the name of the database file c:\.....\mdb file. From this way the problem is solved. (SEE SAMPLE_ADO_W2_JET.VI).
    BD5.mdb have the following administrator user: user:jose / passwordepe (Protegida5.mdw)
    The problem is when you want to
    use ODBC and DSN. The name of this ODBC Provider is MSDASQL;. If you use this type of connection you can not enter to the database I attach you.
    This database has a new administrator owner. I deleted the default administrator. If you support the default administrator you can connect to database by ODBC / DSN but the security disappear because you can always enter to database with any password, user o PC.
    FINALLY I HAVE 3 QUESTIONS FOR Application Engineers of National Instruments or someone who knows these subjects before deciding the best way to connect locally o remotely with security to Access from Labview:
    1.- Is it possible to enter to Database BD5.mdb from ODBC and DSN with this owner?
    2.- I want to connect remotely to Access database too. Is it possible to use Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 using the path (.mdb file) without DSN?
    3. Which is the optimal Provider for Microsoft Access?
    I thank you beforehand for your technical support.

  • Oracle Forms 11gR2 - Cannot deploy locally from within Forms

    I cannot deploy locally from within forms.  The server is up and running and I can deploy the form by putting the correct URL in the address line of the browser window.  When I try to deploy from within forms it comes up with some crazy URL that differs everytime.
    This is what the URL should be and this works from the browser:
    http://machinename:7002/forms/frmservlet?form=WRD608ADMIN_11g.fmx&userid=&otherparams=useSDI=yes
    Here is one of the URLs it came up with when I try to run it from within Forms:
    http://localhost:60231/lysVL2VjqT33znjfvLwanktVRxTIc6dEwVeRNXXRmhYU2qjf
    Localhost is always there, but the rest varies.
    In Forms, I have the Preferences, Runtime set to:
    http://machinename:7002/forms/frmservlet
    Where machine name is my PC, it is the same for this address as the URL above that works directly from the browser.
    So what am I missing?
    Thank you in advance.

    Generally speaking, it is discouraged to manually edit any of the configuration files if they are managed by WLS Console or EM.  In this case, default.env is managed by EM.  Therefore, changes to the file should be done through EM.  If however, you want to alter the file manually, the following is likely the best way to accomplish this:
    1.  Stop the WLS Admin Server and Node Manager
    2.  Locate the proper file you wish to edit.  By proper I mean, there are several copies of most config files.  Most of the config files found in the Oracle Home are actually template files and are not used at runtime.  Altering these will not give you the change you want.  The default.env you want would be here (assuming Windows)
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\config\fmwconfig\servers\WLS_FORMS\applications\formsapp_11.1.2\config
    If you are using a "Development" installation type, the above path will reflect AdminServer instead of WLS_FORMS.  Remember that Development installations are not for multi-user purposes.  Production deployments require the "Deployment" installation type, which can also include the Builders.
    Do NOT make any changes yet.
    3.  Once you find the correct file, create a backup copy.  Then open the file for edit (not the backup).
    4.  Make the desired changes and save.
    5.  Restart Node Manager and Admin Server if you plan to use them.
    For more information about using EM to manage your configuration, refer to the product documentation:

  • Error while runing diadem asynchronous script from labview on dual core processor

    Urgent need of some help / advice here!
    Single core runs fine... dual core produces error: Error in <XYaxis.vbs> (line: 17, column: 1): Error while opening object. The object currently open has no subobjects. Forgotten ObjClose?
    The main software built in labview used for daq and analysis generates a PDF report on completion of a test, utilising diadem. For this I use the diadem express vi in labview to generate a multi page report, whereby I use for loop to iterate an array of channels for each page. This for loop has a shift register too. After each page I run a script to adjust a few parameters like linear/log, begin/end and line thickness using the diadem connectivity tookit. See script below:
    Call GraphObjOpen("2D-Axis1")
    Call GraphObjOpen("2DXAxis8_1")
    D2AxisXDivMode = "linear"
    D2AxisXScaleType = "begin/end manual"
    D2AxisXBegin = 20
    D2AxisXEnd = 20000
    Call GraphObjClose("2DXAxis8_1")
    Call GraphObjOpen("2DYAxis8_1")
    D2AxisYDivMode = "linear"
    D2AxisYScaleType = "complete automatic"
    D2AxisYBegin = 0
    D2AxisYEnd = 0
    Call GraphObjClose("2DYAxis8_1")
    FOR c = 1 TO CurveNoMax
    If D2CurveObj(c) = "" Then Exit For ' c
    Call GraphObjOpen(D2CurveObj(c))
    D2CurveLineWidth = 0.75
    Call GraphObjClose(D2CurveObj(c))
    NEXT ' c
    Call GraphObjClose("2D-Axis1")
    There is also a screenshot of the vi: (script file is generated by the Dscript vi and saved to disk. then path is passed to the diadem script vi.)
    What I find is, after the first report page is complete in diadem the second page ALWAYS shows the error as shown at the top. However, on my P4 laptop with single core (no hyperthreading) its runs FINE EVERY TIME with any given number of channels/pages in the report.
    My current chain of thought is that the superfast dual core is doing something in parallel therefore not waiting for the previous page to complete or finish closing its object!? however, in my for loop I use a shift register as named before, surely this kind of loop cannot be divided over more cores/parallel threads? as it has to wait for the response of the previous.!?!? Im running LV 8.6 on WinXP for this project and I didnt even think multicore processing for for loops is included in this version.
    The other thing is... this script used to run fine on the dual core until I added the last part that uses a for loop to get every line of the graph to be the thinkness I need. Is this for loop the culprit? Can I stop it from executing over multiple cores/threads? I read a post saying that from diadem 8 there was multi core support. this triggered my doubt
    As always any comments are most appreciated

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Al,
    I have a theory, but only you can test it.  In your VI screenshot, you have the boolean input for the DIAdem Execute Script.vi set to asynchronous=TRUE.  My theory says that if you change that boolean (and all others like it) to asynchrous=FALSE that the error will not occur on the multicore computer.  The other thing you could try would be to consolidate all REPORT commands that pertain to one REPORT page into a single ActiveX call to DIAdem.  In the screenshot below you have at least 2 separate VIs calling DIAdem, so that's at least 2 separate ActiveX calls for one REPORT sheet.
    Here's what I think is going on.  On a multicore computer there is the potential for different ActiveX commands from LV to DIAdem to execute on different cores, which may result in a timing problem on the DIAdem side.  DIAdem 11.x and earlier runs exclusively on 1 CPU, so the incoming ActiveX commands should be sequenced correctly by DIAdem's ActiveX to-do list.  Theoretically DIAdem should serialize all the incoming ActiveX commands (regardless of which CPU processed them) in the order that they arrived at the DIAdem ActiveX server(s).  On the sending side, LabVIEW's dataflow execution should theoretically guarantee that all the ActiveX requests are being sent in the correct order.  But it is theoretically possible that the operating system's ActiveX processing queue might not send all the ActiveX commands to DIAdem in the order that it receives them from LabVIEW-- IF YOU'VE SELECTED ASYNCHRONOUS PROCESSING.

  • How "not to set locale " in user's profile?

    In the "Oracle Universal Content Management 11gR1 Differences between 11gR1 and 10gR3" document
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/content-management/ucm/diffsbetween10gand11g.pdf
    says:
    "If locale is not set in a user’s profile, Content Server can pick that up from a HTTP header variable."
    However, how do I "not to set locale " in user's profile? it appears as a dropdown list and there is no option to enter null.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    What you're changing is per-user but those options are set in the Utilities->System Properties applet
    Here's how you change it:
    Go to the System Properties applet:
    UNIX: Start the System Properties utility by running the System_Properties script, which is located in the bin subdirectory of the Stellent Content Server installation directory.
    Windows: From the Windows Start menu, select Programs -> Content Server Content Server -> [Instance Name] -> Utilities -> System Properties.
    Then once the System Properties applet is started:
    # Open the Localization tab.
    # In the list of locales, you can Disable the locales you have here or maybe a new option with 11g will show up.
    # When you are done, click OK to apply the setting and exit System Properties.
    # Restart each instance of the content server.

  • Getting clusters from LabVIEW ActiveX Server with Excel/VBA

    Hello,
    my colleague and I are trying to control a LV from Excel (VBA) by ActiveX.
    I.E.:
    We do something like :
    Set LV = createObject("LabVIEW.Application")
    Set VI = LV.GetVIReference("Path_to_VI")
    ParamNames(0) = "Input1"
    ParamNames(1) = "Input2"
    ParamNames(2) = "Output"
    ParamValues(0) = 1
    ParamValues(1) = 3.1415
    Call VI.Call(ParamNames,ParamValues)
    msgbox("output =" & ParamVals(2))
    This works perfectly for simple data types (int, double, float, string, etc )
    Now we need to transfer more complex structures, which are originaly LV-clusters.
    But we did not find any clue on how do that (especially receive clusters) in the help or on the internet.
    Is there any chance to succeed ???
    TIA,
    Thomas

    Actually, working with clusters is really really easy. Through the magic of - well something - a cluster in LV comes out in the VBA environment as an array of variants. There was an activex example that shipped with V7.1 that showed this very thing. I couldn't find them in V8 so here is the 7.1 stuff.
    Check out the macros in the Excel spreadsheet... This show running the VI in the development environment, but if this looks interesting I can fill you in on how to make it work in an executable.

  • Write to Citadel database from LabVIEW?

    Hi. I'm a newbie when it comes to Lookout and the Citadel database... so here's my question for you all:
    We have various labview applications that log data from instruments. We would like to be able to take this data and store it as "tags" in a Citadel database.
    What do you think is the best way to do this?
    There are ODBC drivers for the Citadel database, but they appear to only allow you to query the database to retrieve values... you can't write data to the database (so its read-only).
    Are they any "Lookout VIs" or Citadel VIs that can write to the Citadel DB from LabVIEW? Or a DLL or something?
    Any ideas?
    regards,
    John Paul

    Very nice question John Paul. I take it you already have Lookout and LabVIEW. In this case, with the latest versions of either, simply use the LabVIEW datasocket to publish the items on your front panel. Lookout then can subscribe to these once you register the LabVIEW computer. Once you have subscribed to them in Lookout, you are then able to set up logging. You may need to create an expression object to route the data to citadel.
    If you just want to use LabVIEW and the Citadel database, you might try VI Logger. This works in our configuration utility - MAX, and also comes with a set of VIs for LabVIEW. One caveot, the Citadel database in VI logger is newer (and faster) than the Citadel database in Lookout. I believe NI is working to synchronize
    the version in the future, and its hard to say when. So till then, you would not be able to merge data in the dislike citadel databases. However, you can always use and ODBC call set to extract from both and store in a more permanent SQL database such as access, oracle, ms back office, etc.

    You ought to have a listener somewhere that calls a function
    to then set up the loaded swf. In that function you can do this
    kind of thing:
    var ldrmc:MovieClip;
    function swfloaded (e:Event) {
    ldrmc = null;
    if (e.target.content is MovieClip) {
    ldrmc = e.target.content as MovieClip;
    If the swf was published for AS3, then ldrmc will end up
    being a pointer to the root of the swf, and you can call functions
    or set variables however you like. If it was an AS2 swf, ldrmc
    would be null.
    Inside the loaded swf you could try trace statements, to make
    sure you're looking up the hierarchy far enough. Like this:
    trace(MovieClip(parent.parent));
    If that doesn't trace MainTimeLine, then maybe you're not
    looking up far enough. Don't forget that the swf itself is in a
    loader, and so may be one level down from where you thought it was.

  • Upgrading from LabVIEW 4

    I'm currently upgrading an application from LabVIEW 4 to 2010 by way of 7.1.  After opening the VIs in 7.1, I have several orphaned local variables and no idea what they might have been attached to.
    Does anyone know how local variable behavior might have changed between 4 and 7.1 to cause this?  I'm probably going to load 4 in a VM to check it out but thought this might be a known artifact that pops up when doing these types of upgrades.
    Thanks!

    as part of the evolution, so has the desire to use wires instead of Locals...  (I hear shouts already )
    If you know the control that it came from, is it within a section of the code where a wire would do the trick?  Or if in a Loop, a nice Shift Register will carry the data.  If within a Stacked Sequence Structure, then you may have to flatten it first..  Then clean up the code..

    how do i need to set this cluster to the Custom Data type variable in TestStand?
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    TestStand to LabVIEW: i didnt understand what you r trying to achieve. But if you are using references, Use Property nodes and Invoke nodes to achieve what you want in LabVIEW.
     LabVIEW to TestStand: check the image below: You need to click the button next to 'container'. I have used a cluster output in the VI.

    I am using labview 8.5 , i want to create dll for spacific vi , to use its output in another program like C++,
    can any one help me to learn the steps to create dll from labview
    thanks

    You need the application builder (which is part of the professional distro).
    In general you should every VI that you want as a function set to 'top-level'
    If you right click on the builds in your project you have an option to build a DLL (if you have the application builder), from there on the help is available.
