Setting Primary Keys in Data Modeler

I just created a table in Data Modeler 3 and set the Primary Key columns, but I did not see the # symbol next to the PK columns, as it is in the other tables previously created. Is there a setting that is preventing them from appearing?

Thanks very much Phillip.
I am wondering now if there's a way to use that browser to correct another problem I've been having:
Sometimes I find that if I have to rename an attribute, the tool keeps a redundant,unneeded attribute in the list of attributes, typically placing a 1 or 2 after the name. I can not delete these unwanted attributes using the delete button. So how can I get rid of them? Does the browser offer a way? Thanks.

    its my personal need..then it is a very bad personal need. DATE is not an appropriate type to be using for a primary key, as it cannot be guaranteed to be unique, especially when inserting multiple rows at once.
    You would be better working to business needs and implementing correct technical solutions to those needs, than to just do things based on your personal needs.

  • Setting primary key fields from sequence. Please advise

    What is the most logical place to automatically set primary key fields from
    sequence?
    jdoPrestore seems to be a little late - my instance will not have id till
    it's committed. I can not do it in constructor because it gets called every
    time Kodo needs to construct an instance. What other options do I have for
    automatic pk assignment except do it in my code (hate it)?
    I wish I could use store managed OIDs but I need access to OID underlying

    I came up with following pattern:
    public class OrgUnit implements InstanceCallbacks {
    private long orgUnitId = -1;
    private transient long tempOrgUnitId = -1;
    public long getOrgUnitId() {
    if (orgUnitId < 0) {
    if (tempOrgUnitId < 0) {
    tempOrgUnitId = JDOFactory.getNextSequenceId(getClass());
    return tempOrgUnitId;
    } else {
    return orgUnitId;
    public void jdoPreStore() {
    if (!JDOHelper.isDeleted(this)) {
    if (orgUnitId < 0) {
    setOrgUnitId(getOrgUnitId());
    I use -1 as an indicator that ID has not been assigned yet. If you use Long
    instead of long it will be cleaner since we can test for null

  • Anyone know setting primary key deferred help in the bulk loading

    Hi,
    Anyone know by setting primary key deferred help in the bulk loading in term of performance..cos i do not want to disable the index, cos when user query the existing records in the table, it will affect the search query.
    Thank You...

    In the Oracle 8.0 documentation when deferred constraints were introduced Oracle stated that defering testing the PK constraint until commit time was more efficient than testing each constraint at the time of insert.
    I have never tested this assertion.
    In order to create a deferred PK constraint the index used to support the PK must be created as non-unique.

    I once found the note 407563 on this subject. It gives the advantages and disadvantages from the point of view of data modelling and from the technical point of view.
    It's a BPS note, but manly valid in a BW context.

  • How to set primary key of the VO.

    I have a problem with the master detail search. The search works fine on the first search, all details can be seen fine, but in the second search I get this error.

  • Setting primary key field value in jdoPrestore() not flushed to database ?BUG?

    Hello,
    When I set value of primary key field of a new instance in jdoPrestore() new
    value does not get flushed to database - old (default) value get stored
    instead. All other fields assigned in jdoPrestore() get successfully
    flushed except primary key one.
    Alex

    Abe,
    You fixed only part of the problem. Right now if I assign value to a PK
    field in jdoPreStore() it does get flushed but there is another issue - all
    other instances which referenced the one I assigned PK to will not get this
    PK value. Example A references B, in B.jdoPreStore() I generate id for B -
    b.id = 100. When A gets flushed it would not get 100 in its b_id field.
    Specs says:
    This method is called ***before the values are stored from the instance to
    the StateManager***.
    Data store fields that might have been affected by modified non-persistent
    fields should
    be updated in this method. This method is modified by the enhancer so that
    changes to
    persistent fields will be reflected in the data store.
    The context in which this call is made allows access to the
    PersistenceManager and
    other persistent JDO instances.
    I read it as callbacks should be invoked on ALL instances before they get
    stored to StateManager. Does Kodo invoke callbacks for all istances first
    and then store them to instance manager? Based on the problem I am having it
    does not look like it

  • Setting primary key in ejbCreate()

    Hello,
    I'm having difficulty inserting a record into my database. The error reporting is telling me that I'm trying to insert a null value into my primary key column even though I have confirmed that the primary key column is being set in my ejbCreate() method. The method is returning the value of the primary key parameter as per an example. This value is being generated by another class in my app (i.e. it is not auto-incrementing) and passed into a create method in the servlet. If anyone can offer some guidance it would be greatly appreciated. This seems like it should be something simple but I'm having no joy.
    p.s. I'm using Resin-CMP so auto-incrementing PK is not a good idea.
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("LEARNWARE"."SCHEDULE"."SEQUENCE_NUMBER")
    Thank you.
    Scott Fitzgerald

    Thanks for replying. My table has six columns with one of those being the primary key (in this case sequence_number).Since the getters and setters for the field (sequenceNumber) that maps to the primary key are abstract (ala Resin-CMP), they have to be public. Changing the field definition from public to private didn't seem to do anything. I still got the same error. My deployment descriptor has the persistence type set to Container and has been all along. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Generate sample PHP service from db could not set primary key

    Hi,
        Some information about my system:
    OS :Windows 7 64 bit

    Eclipse 3.5+Flash Builder 4 plugin
    DB: MySQL 5.0 local server
    Web Server: Apache 2.2+PHP 5.2.14
    Zend Frame work 1.10.1 (installed by Flash Builder)
        I am trying to configure a PHP service in the Connect to Data/Service wizard. I clicked "click here to generate a sample" to generate a Sample PHP service. I selected Generate from database radio button and entered the db connection information in all fields. I am able to connect to my local database and select the table I want to create the service. But after I selected the primary key from the dropdown, the Ok button is still disabled and a warning note at the bottom of the screen still prompt for selecting the table's primary key. At this point, the log in eclipse metadata folder in the workspace has the following error:

    I figured this explains why the OK button is not enabled. I could trick the screen by clicking the Generate from template radio button and back to clicking the Generate from database button which will enable the OK button. I clicked OK, and a Security Information warning about ricks of generating the service php file popped up asking if I want to continue. I clicked OK and back to the generate sample PHP service screen. After this, the process entered an endless Ok-warning-OK-warning-OK loop and could never proceed to actually generating the service file. • Help with setting primary key in table

  • Sql Developer Data Modeler 3.0 EA1: Custom transformation script

    What is the object model used by:
    Tools -> Design Rules -> Transformations
    From looking at the examples (and guessing) I have managed to create ID attributes on all my entities, but how do I set its sequence number or set it as the primary key?
    entities = model.getEntitySet().toArray();
    for (var e = 0; e<entities.length; e++)
    entity = entities[e];
    att = entity.createAttribute();
    att.setName('ID');
    - Marc de Oliveira

    content of XML files:
    1) class described, parent class if there is one
    2)<property .../>
    describes property - set and get method, data type of property, default value
    3) <collection ... />
    describes collection of objects belonging to class - 5 collections are defined in Table.xml - columns, indexes, table check constraints, column groups and spatial definitions
    - get method - to get collection
    - create item method - method of described class used to create item for that collection; so for columns collection table.createColumn() will create column in table
    - other methods - add, move, remove if are defined
    4)other meta data
    definitions in 1) .. 4) are used by Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler, so it'll be wrong to modify those xml files
    5)<roproperty ../>
    Data Modeler doesn't parse/process these definitions, we decided to not filter them out however you should not rely that much on them
    6)some junk left
    For each object you can set your own properties and they will be persisted (also included in compare/merge in versioning) together with other information for object - look at "template table" example in transformation scripts. Here are methods you can use:
    void setProperty(String key, String value);
         String getProperty(String key);
         boolean hasProperty(String key);
         boolean hasProperty(String key, String value);
         void removeProperty(String key);
         void clearProperties();
         Iterator getPropertyNames();

  • Oracle Entity Framework: some tables won't update the entity data model

    I've successfully connected to an oracle database, and I've set up an entity data model project in Visual Studio 2010.
    Using "Update Model from Database" on the EDMX file, some tables that I select are imported, but others do not appear. Is there something about these tables that prevents them from being imported?
    Thanks
    Jonathan Poor
    Rubin & Poor, Inc.

    When I tried this the first time, I missed a message that answers my question:
    The table/view does not have a primary key defined and no valid primary key could be inferred. This table/view has been excluded. To use the entity, you will need to review your schema, add the correct keys, and uncomment it.
    Another table was brought in because the entity model managed to infer a primary key:
    The table/view does not have a primary key defined. The key has been inferred and the definition was created as a read-only table/view.

  • Querying on the basis of some attribute of composite primary key

    Hello,
    I am looking for suggestion about querying just on the basis of one attribute of the composite primary key.
    TO exemplify,
    I have a 6 attributes example A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,A6.
    A1,A2 and A3 together, serve as composite primary key.Now,because of the need of the project,I want to do querying on the basis of any A1,A2 or A3.One way I could think of is to have secondary indices on each of A1,A2,A3.
    Can some one explain me roughly how to go about it?
    I am a new user of BerkeleyDB Java Edition,hence not sure what would be a good way to do it.I understand one way to do it,would be to keep A1,A2,A3 in the Key class and A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,A6 in the value class as well.Then create secondary indices on the A1,A2 and A3 individually.
    Can someone suggest a more efficient way?
    Thanks,
    Will appreciate any suggestions.
    Prateek

    Exactly as you said. Create secondary indices on each attribute you want to index off of. I don't use the Java interface, but what you pretty much need to do is form your secondary key like so:
    skey: pkey_individual_attribute
    skeysize: pkey_individual_attribute_sizeHow to do this is documented in the BDB Java API docs:
    For example:
        class MyKeyCreator implements SecondaryKeyCreator {
            public boolean createSecondaryKey(SecondaryDatabase secondary,
                                                DatabaseEntry key,
                                                DatabaseEntry data,
                                                DatabaseEntry result)
                throws DatabaseException {
                // DO HERE: Extract the secondary key from the primary key and
                // data, and set the secondary key into the result parameter.
                return true;
        SecondaryConfig secConfig = new SecondaryConfig();
        secConfig.setKeyCreator(new MyKeyCreator());
        // Now pass secConfig to Environment.openSecondaryDatabaseThe extractor function used to construct the secondary index is passed the primary key and primary data - therefore all the data is available to you with no need to duplicate the key within the data itself. While the standard example is to use some part of the primary data to form a secondary key - there's absolutely nothing against using only a part of the primary key to form a secondary key instead. The only thing you have to do is slice up said primary key and construct the "result" parameter to be a single attribute. The backend API already knows which composite key this secondary entry will be associated with and as such will implicitly form the data (or as you called it "value") section of the index (which will be the composite primary key passed to it).
    The primary key/data should consist of the composite A1,A2,A3 with only A4,A5,A6 as data.
    The secondary->get() call (within the Java API) takes a key and provides back the primary key and primary data (basically the same as the db->pget() call in the C API). Since you've already indexed individual attributes, based off of the composite key, into their own respective databases - you just query from one of your secondary indexes with whatever specific attribute as the key. You then use the filled in primary key and primary data to work off of.
