Setting SGA_MAX_SIZE without setting SGA_TARGET

RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.4
OS : Solart 5.10
We are currently facing some performance issues in one of our DBs.
This DB has SGA Components individually set. For eg: DB_CACHE_SIZE is set to 2gb.
I've noticed that
SGA_MAX_SIZE = 6GB
SGA_TARGET = Not setShould we set both SGA_TARGET, SGA_MAX_SIZE to take advantage of 10gR2's Automatice shared Memory Management?

sga_max_size sets the maximum value for sga_target.see MOSC Notes 295626.1, 396940.1, 270065.1 and 256913.1.
SGA_TARGET parameter is new with Oracle 10g. It specifies the total amaount of SGA memory available to an instance. Setting this parameter makes Oracle distribute the available memory among various components - such as shared pool (for SQL and PL/SQL), Java pool, large_pool and buffer cache - as required. This new feature is called Automatic Shared Memory Management. With ASMM, the parameters java_pool_size, shared_pool_size, large_pool_size and db_cache_size need not be specified explicitely anymore. sga_target cannot be higher than sga_max_size.
SGA_MAX_SIZE != SGA_TARGET when?

Thanks

    "When using AMM (by setting memory_target, and/or sga_target, the values for the “traditional” pool parameters (db_cache_size, shared_pool_size, &c) are not ignored. Rather, they will specify the minimum size that Oracle will always maintain for each sub-area in the SGA.
    so that means PGA wont grow more than 500MB and SGA be set to minimum of 4.5GB?
    actually if you carefully read the above comment it doesnt mentiond sga_max_size it only says traditional pools such as db_cache_size etc...
    does this also include sga_max_size?
    I had a look at the other link to a thread but the question is slightly diffrent, they are discussing relation of sga_target to memory_target, I am intrested to know about sga_nax_size inrelation to memory_target

  • Unable to set sga_max_size parameter through spfile

    My 10g db running in spfile. I am trying to decrease sga_max_size to 1024M where i have 1504 now ...
    Do i am not doing in a right way ? Please suggest me
    i am trying like this .....
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0
    alter system set sga_max_size =1020M scope= spfile;
    SQL>system altered
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0

    SCOPE=SPFILE would not change the in-memory value. So a SHOW PARAMETER would still show the previous value.
    You must compare the SPFILE before and after the ALTER SYSTEM. (Don't copy the spfile in a text editor but make a copy of the spfile to view OR use the "strings" command on Unix/Linux . If you accidentally write to the spfile with a text editor you will corrupt it. So, the best way to check the value is to run a CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE and view the pfile which would be the initSID.ora file.

  • Install oracle 10g on solaris 9 platform without setting noexec_user_stack

    Hi,
    I'd like install oracle 10g software on solaris 2.9 platform without setting noexec_user_stack parameter to 1.
    The problem is that i need install software before, for migrating product environment.
    I can write /etc/system file but i can't reboot system until several days.
    I will not start migration process until i reboot the system and parameter definitely set.
    Do you know if we will can have any kind of problem???
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your answer FZheng. But i will just install software. I will not start any oracle 10g process until i reboot the machine.
    I think that oracle software installacion should not be affected. Do you know if this parameter affect to compile softwere during OUI wizard progress???.
    Before going on migration process and start database i will sure that this parameter is correctly fixed.
    PD.: I couldn't read metalink reference that you've suggested becouse my metalink account have problem access in this momment. During all day i've been reeding metalinks docs without any problem until this momment, bad luck.
    In test environment i've installed oracle without this parameter and i've never had any problem. But this installation is more important than others becouse i ask you in this specialist forum.
    Thanks again !!!

  • How to modify  a table without  setting system to modifiable

    Hi All
    Is there a way to modify a table without setting the system to modifiable either in SCC4 or SE06.
    We locked SCC4 in our system , however one tables are not able to modify.
    table name YAUTM
    Is there a way to bypass this?
    Edited by: Shou Woon Wee on Jan 11, 2008 3:09 AM

    Hi Shou......
    if it gives you a message....."the client is not modifiable"/ ALIAS "table not modifiable"  ...then from a security perspective....you cant, and you might not want to bypass it!
    SCC4 settings are meant to be for that!  Contact your Basis team for this.
    The only way to bypass this is thru ....sending changes through a transport request.
    Curiosity: what environment are you trying this out ? cant be sandbox or DEV!

  • Invert Chart Scale without set Flipped or Properties Window

    There are a way to Invert Scale on Chart Plot without set the property Flipped programmatically or set the option inverted on properties window?
    I was created a executable program in labview and in any part of code exists a property Flipped and the properties window are not acessible. But one program user
    make the graph sliding from the right to the left, fliped.
    The are any combination of actions with mouse and keyboard to make the scale inverted? There are any combination of property values to do this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I know how to invert the scale but I do not want to invert the scale.
    Nowhere in my code I am inverting the scale. Neither the properties window is accessible to the user so that he can do.
    But some user of my program could inadvertently inverting the scale and I can not understand how he did it.

  • Without to change the setting.how to set the decimal place to 7 for an UDF.

    Without to change the setting, how to set the decimal place to 7 for an UDF?

    Hi
    Once you create a UDF it will automatically be binded to the data source of data type that you gave at the time of creating UDF.
    So i think you can not set the decimal places without changing the setting in display parameters.
    i am not sure whether it will work or not one thing you can try is that create it as a alphanumeric data type and convert your decimal value to sting and then assign it to UDF,While retrieving for any manipulation you convert it as decimal.
    Hope it helps you

  • Can I run logmnr without setting  SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_MIN ??

    Question is can I run logmnr without setting SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_MIN ??
    I had a situation where I had to run log miner to undo some changes. I ran the log miner on the database where SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_MIN was not set nor the dictionary was specified. I ran the following and was able to get the undo. I am a little confused there, as Oracle doc stats that SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_MIN should be set to YES, before you can mine the logs.
    These are the commands :
    -- set session
    ALTER SESSION SET nls_date_format='DD-MM-RRRR hh24:mi:ss';
    -- start log minor,change datetime in the below SQL for the time frame
    BEGIN
    DBMS_LOGMNR.START_LOGMNR(
    STARTTIME => '17/07/2012 13:30:00' ,
    ENDTIME => '17/07/2012 14:30:00',
    OPTIONS => DBMS_LOGMNR.DICT_FROM_ONLINE_CATALOG +
    DBMS_LOGMNR.CONTINUOUS_MINE +
    DBMS_LOGMNR.COMMITTED_DATA_ONLY +
    DBMS_LOGMNR.PRINT_PRETTY_SQL);
    END;
    -- change table_name to find out undo statements relating to that table
    SELECT sql_undo FROM v$logmnr_contents where table_name =upper('machines');
    --stop logminor
    exec dbms_logmnr.end_logmnr;
    Thanks

    If supplemental logging is not enabled,It would be difficult to identify the user and session information details from V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS views

  • Pass value through URL without setting local page item

    Folks,
    I have a table where I have created a dummy column with a hyperlink on it to go to another page in the application which runs a report passing through columns on the table
    As I am doing this several times (for different pages in my application) - Is there a way of passing a variable through a URL to a report without setting a local variable
    i.e.
    Click Here
    Here I am assigning a local variable on Page 25 which is hidden called P25_TEST1
    What I would like to do is pass the value straight to page 25 (which runs the report) without the need to create hidden items on the report pages all the while
    Thanks
    Gareth

    You have a plain HTML page that loads with a url with something like ?field=value
    And you want "value" to show on your page, correct?
    <html>
    <body>
    <script>
    var qsParm = new Array();
    function qs() {
    var query = window.location.search.substring(1);
    var parms = query.split('&');
    for (var i=0; i<parms.length; i++) {
       var pos = parms<i>.indexOf('=');
       if (pos > 0) {
          var key = parms<i>.substring(0,pos);
          var val = parms<i>.substring(pos+1);
          qsParm[key] = val;
    qsParm['field'] = null;
    qs();
    if (qsParm['field'])
         document.write('You selected ' + qsParm['field'] );
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    Call that as test.html?field=Hello

  • Cascading LOV without setting autosubmit to be "true"

    Does anyone know how to make the cascading LOV works on a JSF page without setting the autosubmit to be true?
    Here is my usecase: An entity X has attribute A, B, C, in which the LOV of attribute C is dependent on A; however, all A, B, C are mandatory on the database constraint level. So, if I set the autosubmit to be true for A in order to make B knows the changes on A, the Validation Error message will be pop up saying that attributes A, B, C are needed for entity X.
    Therefore, is there a way to make C knows the changes of A without setting the autosubmit of A to be true?
    Thanks much,
    Jinyan

    Hi Predja,
    After I set the immediate of A to be true, on the page, after I selected the value of A, the field of C does not have a LOV showing up.

  • HT1226 how to add security key to airport extreme that was set up without? a key?

    Will have to have re-set up my airport express or will the extreme just work with the express? I have the express locked down and I thought about unlocking the express? What would I do to set this up? Any help I would greatly appreciate it!!!
    You should set up the Extreme as your main router and eventually the Express to stream music or to extend the wireless.
    After the Extreme is set up and running, just set the Express e.g. to "Join a wireless network".
    Alternatively reset the Express to factory default (see manual) and configure it from the scratch to your needs.

  • How to release  PRs through workflows without setting release procedures?

    Dear all,
             I am involved in overall purchase requisition workflow.I have copied standard workflow WS20000077.
             For overall PR release,I will be using the standard task TS20000159 which uses BOR as BUS2105 and method SINGLERELEASE.This method is defined with RELEASECODE as mandatory parameter.
             My functional consultant wants me to get release codes from ztable based on plant and PR value without setting release groups and release code in SPRO transaction.
             So,I have created an entry in ztable for release code with data element FRGCO as in T16FC standard table with SAP log on id of agent ,plant and PR values.I have created a custom background method to pick the appropriate release code from ztable based on PR value and plant.The picked release code now can be passed to he above standard task.Is this a right procedure for PR release?Please correct me if I am wrong ,as this is the first time I am involved in release workflows, for which I will be grateful.
    Thanks and regards,
    S.Suresh

    Dear Swaminathan,
                     Thank you so much for your reply.
                     I will get back shortly once this is done.
