Setting up fax!

I have an ADSL model connected to my PowerMac G5, and have an internet connectivity, is it possible to send and recieve faxes in my mac while at the same time i have an ADSL modem ?!

As Greg said, yes, ...as long as your G5 has a built-in fax modem (do they? I heard that some Macs don't). Wall jack goes to line jack on DSL modem. Phone jack on DSL modem goes to RJ-11 jack on your computer, or to a Y-adapter that you have plugged into that RJ-11 jack on your computer, and then you could hang your phone off of the Y-adapter, too. Phone jack on DSL modem is already filtered -- you won't need to add another in-line filter here.
If you enable "receive faxes on this computer" and don't have a dedicated phone line for it, it is really best if you have distinctive ring feature from your telephone company. Then it's a one-line edit in the fax configuration file "/usr/bin/fax" to accomodate distinctive ring (I described this in an old post of mine in this forum, and I'm sure a gazillion other people that frequent this forum have, too). I found the trick in an old macosxhints.com article.
You just have to remember that every system update wipes out your edited /usr/bin/fax so you have to redo the file edit every system update, so make a note of how to do it. It's a really trivial edit.

  • Set default fax to black and white

I have been sending faxes by sending doc files to print and selecting the Officejet fax as my printer option.
Annoyingly, it keeps reverting to "send color" . I would like to set "sending black and white faxes" as the default.
How can I set the default to Black and white?
I cannot find, in the manual, any reference to setting the default.
Thanks for any insight--even a page number in the manual would be helpful.

    Hi @deepthinker,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are trying to set default fax to black and white instead of color with your HP Officejet 5610 on Windows 8.1 (64-bit). I am happy to look into this for you!
I would recommend to open your HP Solution Center (should be a printer icon on your desktop.) Then click on Settings, then click on Printer Settings,  click on the Features tab at the top of the screen, look for the Color Options section near bottom left, and click on Print in grayscale, click the down arrow on High Quality, and select Black Ink Only.
Here is an image of what I am seeing.
If that doesn't work try the following:
Open the HP Solution Center, select Send A Fax, and then look for Black and White only.
Here is another image to illustrate.
Hope this information helps, and have a good day!

  • Cannot use telephone after setting up fax

I use the same line for talking and faxing. After I plugged in the phone line to the fax my phone stopped working. I can dial out and the phone rings in but nobody can hear me and I cannot hear them.

    Hi @acmyra76,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you cannot use your telephone after setting up fax with your HP Officejet 6830 on Windows 8. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
Is your phone line an analog or digital phone service? Analog. Digital. What’s the Difference?
If your phone service is digital you may need to get a filter for the line.
I would recommend going through this guide, Cannot Send or Receive Faxes, to verify the fax is connected properly.
For future reference, here is your printer's user guide, HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer User guides.
You might also want to contact your phone company as well, just to make sure there are no issues with them.
Hope this information helps, and hope to hear from you soon!

  • How can I set the fax prefix no. on HP officejet pro 8600

    Greeting.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I want to send FAX thru this.
In my office, we need to put '0' to call outside.
However, there is no prefix setting menu on this device.
I have another model HP 1213mf which has Prefix No. menu on it, but I couldn't find this menu on 8600.
    Please Help me

    Hi Wony,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I understand you're looking for a way to add a prefix on the Officejet 8600 for faxing, and I will do my best to explain what I found on this subject.
As far as I can tell, and I did check with a few colleagues, there is no Prefix No. menu on the OJ 8600 like there was on your LaserJet 1213mf. With that being said, that doesn't mean that you can't use this printer to fax in your office. Anytime you need to dial the fax you would hit the 0 first follow by ##, as that adds a pause to the dialing to then dial the rest of the number. You can also add that to speed dial numbers so that for numbers that are used all the time you don't have to dial the number each and every time.
So just as an example, if you were to fax HP's faxback server (1-888-473-2963) you would dial "0##1-888-473-2963" to get the fax to send.
This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but I hope this is an acceptable workaround Please let me know!

  • How to set up fax solution using Windows 2008 R2 Fax server role and Exchange 2007

    Hello,
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but since it is related to Exchange I thought it might be. If this is not the right place, please direct me to the forum where my post would be more appropriate.
I'm looking to set up a Fax solution for the company that I work for as we are moving away from analog phone lines to VoIP using SIP. My original thought was to set up a Windows 2008 R2 server with Fax server role installed and have it route the fax message
to Exchange 2007 SP3 so the fax message can be delivered to each user's inbox. I was reading a little bit on the Windows Fax server role and from what I saw it looks like it can only route fax messages to one email address. This not ideal for my company. Is
there a way to have the fax server role route the email to each user's inbox? If so, how can I achieve this?
How can implement this for this sending outgoing faxes as well?
I don't know if this releveant or not but I will be using Asterisk as a media gateway between our SIP trunks and the Windows Fax server.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Setting up fax and voicemail on same phone line.

I have one phone line with voicemail and fax.  How do I set up the fax so voicemail doesn't pick up my faxes and the fax doesn't pick up my voicemail messages?  I have the fax and phone going through a splitter.  I just discontinued my separate phone line I used for faxing and internet and want to use a single phone line for everything.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.  Auntalee

If you have Verizon Home Voicemail (the kind you access by dialing a phone number i.e. no answering machine) I can't see how it would work.
Some fax machines can answer the phone listen for the fax tones and if it doesn't hear them it rings another phone or answering machine connected to it.
It comes down to something has to answer the phone, figure out what kind of call it is a route it to either a answering machine or a fax machine.
The only other way to do it with one line and Verizon voice mail is to get something called Distinctive Ringing service (if its available for Fios).  You get another phone number but not another physical line.  The one phone line rings differently for each number.  The fax machine must then have the distinctive ring feature and be setup to only answer it's ring.  The other ring it ignores which means VM will pick it up.
    Good luck

  • How do I set up fax capabilities?

I have had this fabulous laptop for a year now and I still do not know how to send and receive faxes.
How do I do that or where can I find that information?
I have Safari and I also have Road Runner. Both are browsers, I believe. I continue to get my mail through aol and use aol as a homepage.
In the dock I still have an aol icon for my old 6.0 because I have so much material saved there and haven't transferred it all yet. I don't know if these old applications are slowing my computer down or not but for the last three weeks or so it has been crashing when I try to quit Safari. Also, Safari seems to be running quite slow.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions that you can give.
    Itzamirakul

If everything is getting slow, too, it may be an issue with the periodic daily, weekly, and monthly launchd scripts not launching because his computer isn't turned on when the scripts would normally launch, and log files fmay be filling up his computer's hard drive.
If this is the case, he could open Terminal.app (in the Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder) from an admin-privileged account, and type
df⏎ to see how full his hard drive is. Then, if necessary, he could type
    /etc/periodic/daily/100.clean-logs⏎
    /etc/periodic/daily/500.daily⏎
    /etc/periodic/daily/500.weekly⏎
    /etc/periodic/daily/500.monthly⏎
several times (they may take a while if they haven't been run regularly), so they rotate out old logfiles.
Also, Disk Utility's repair permissions option might be in order, too. (also in the Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder).
    What do you think?

  • How To Get Internal Modem Set Up in the Fax List - G4 AGP

Recently installed OS 10.4.8 on my friend's upgraded G4 AGP (Sawtooth). Tried to set up his Mac's internal modem for faxing (no internet connection, he has cable modem for that). Got the fax set up to receive without problem. Tested it and it acknowledges incoming calls and will pick up and log the fax.
The problem is in setting up to send a fax. Although the internal modem shows up in the Apple Profiler and works to receive faxes, it just won't show up in the Fax List under the Printer Setup Utility and therefore isn't selectable under PDF on the Print window to allow sending a fax.
I've searched Mac Help in vain. The set up of modems isn't really addressed. What am I missing? On my MDD G4, once I had the modem installed and set up to receive, it just showed up in the Fax List. I didn't have to do anything else.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Carl B.

So, when you go in to System Preferences > Print & Fax > Set Up fax Modem ..., Internal Modem is NOT showing up in Fax List?
Does Internal Modem.app exist in /Users/{shortUserName}/Library/Printers/?

  • How do you set up the stupid USB modem to send faxes?

Just bought the stupid USB modem because my new G5 is so new and improved that it doesn't have a modem like my old G4. Naturally I was so pleased to spend extra money that I hastened to order a brand new USB modem from Apple. Aren't they smart? Eliminate minor product features and then sell them separately to gullible users.
Well Apple's even smarter than I thought, because not only did they not include the modem on the new G5, the 'manual' doesn't actually tell you how to use it to send faxes. That guarantees you'll go to their website and maybe even buy more stuff.
So, has anybody out there actually figured out how to make an Apple product work in spite of itself, or do I have to go to my local business store and buy a fax machine?
    PowerBook G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes, I did what the manual said
When I phone my fax line, I hear the fax squeal produced by the Mac, so I could get incoming faxes, but the modem isn't recognized as a printer so I can't send out faxes. Manual explains how to dial out, but seems to be talking about how to connnect to the Internet with a dial-up modem.
Since you don't say what specific problem you are
    having,
Have you gone to System Preferences > Print & Faxing
Faxing> Set Up Fax Modem yet?
Have you looked at "Mac OS Help" type Fax in search
box - lots of info there.
    Hope this helps

  • Help please:set up mac 10.4.11 with ext dsl modem to send and receive faxes

Hi and thanks in advance. I have a G4MDD dual processor, and have a dsl modem for internet connection. I want to set up to send and receive faxes. I can make and receive phone calls while connected to the internet. any ideas or help appreciated. Thanks again.
    Message was edited by: R.Andom

I cannot send/receive faxes via my dsl, I have to use my regular phone line. (My DSL modem only has one phone jack port, and that is to connect it to the outside world. Pretty sure this is true of every DSL modem.)
When I need fax capability, I unplug the phone line to my telephone at the phone end, and plug that cable into the modem port in the back of the G4. (The modem is built-in.) After sending / receiving, I switch the cable back to the phone.
You set up fax capability in System Preferences / Print and Fax.

  • Setting up the fax modem on a Mac Mini

I would like to be able to fax from my Mac Mini. I have an internal fax modem installed, but when I press the Set Up Fax Modem... button in the Print & Fax section of the System Preferences, the internal fax modem is not listed in the Fax List window.
Anyone know why this might be?

the internal fax modem is not listed in the Fax List window.
Anyone know why this might be? -- mahongue
You have not used it yet. Do a File >> Print >> PDF >> Fax PDF... >> Fax
That should kick up a fax machine icon bouncing on your Dock, and you should note that an internal modem should be listed now under Show Fax List.
