Setting up FMS in an ISP Senario

Hi there,
I have just set up FMS on a server within our datacentre.
I have opened up the ports on the firewall for that servers
IP address but I still cant connect to the application from the
outside world!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks
David

Some more info might be helpful
1. What operating system
2. Is there a n HTTPD server listening to the same IP (or any
other device that might listen to ports 1935, 80, or 443)?
3. Did you confirm that all of the FMS services are started
and running
4. Could there be a DNS issue (how is the outside world
connecting? WAN IP address? TLD? Subdomain?)
5. What about firewalls on the client side? Is port 1935
allowed?

Why must I force quit (double press home and slide off) Mail on both my iPad and iPhone in order to have Mail access on my iMac on the same wifi network. Fetch is set to manual and my ISP is Charter.

I don't know about the "3" but it's a POP account. I've always suspected that Charter isn't letting go using their mobile apps for iOS. Puzzling that it doesn't block the other way. That is if Mail is open on the iMac it doesn't block access to Mail on either the iPad or iPhone. I'm guessing it's their mobile apps that are the problem but they won't admit it to me.

  • Setting up FMS on a remote server with Linux platform

Can anybody help me with setting up FMS on a remote server
    that runs linux?

First of all you must download linux distribution of fms with
    wget url.
    Than
    tar -zxvf FlashMediaServer2.tar.gz
This will create a directory which contains the installation
    files.
cd into newly created directory something like
    cd FMS_2_0_3_r68_linux
you will see an executable file named installFMS in the dir
if you list the files with ls.
just type ./installFMS and press enter.
You should be able to set it up without problem if you
officially set it up on linux platforms which are described on its
help page but you must use -platformWarnOnly parameter to start if
you want to set it up on a platform orther than support list.
it will ask you some questions which you must answer
    appropriately.
it will install itself into /opt/macromedia/fms and you will
be able to manage the service by /etc/init.d/fms.
you can check the service if it has started succesfully by
    running
    ps aux|grep fms
    or
    netstat -aln|grep 1935
there should be a running process named fms
    or
the port 1935 should be listenning on some interfaces
if you don't see any of them than service might not be
    started succesfully.
You may try to start the service manually by typing
    /etc/init.d/fms start
if you can't start it again
    cd /opt/macromedia/fms/
    and run
    ./server start
you should see some complaints about some packages needed
such as netscape libraries or ulimit problem
if you see problem about ulimit than change your ulimit to
    32768
    ulimit -u 32768
Please do all of the aboves with your attention.

  • How to set two FMS URLs in Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder

    Hello Folks,
Just wondering if anyone can give me any details on how I can set two Flash Media Server URLs on Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder to share one camera but stream it to two servers.
    Thank you.

Put both URL's in the two FMS url's fields, primary/backup (its just naming, the "primary" and "backup", it could be named FMS1 and FMS2 as well)...
    Same stream name...

  • Trouble setting up Gmail using an ISP provided email

    Running Mail 4.6.
I have recently switched ISP's and the new ISP uses Gmail IMAP. I want to use my ISP provided email address instead of a Gmail one. I have followed all the instructions in setting up Gmail IMAP. I receive mail fine, but I am unable to send mail. The Outgoing Server remains Offline even though I followed the instructions on how to set it up and believe it's correct.
Are there some pitfalls that I may have missed or does this sound like an ISP issue?
If there's a more detailed tutorial on setting up Gmail IMAP than the one Google provides, can you point me to it?
    Thanks.

Then you need to generate an application specific password to read gmail using the iOS mail app. The alternative is to download the gmail app from the app store and use it to manage your gmail.

  • Trying to find lowest latency setting for FMS 3.0 live streaming app

    Hi,
I work for a technology company in the agricultural industry,
and we recently bought Adobe FMS 3.0 for live streaming of an
online auction application. Initially the tests were ok, but the
stream latency is becoming a real issue. It starts at around 1s
delay, which is barely acceptable, but an hour into the sale it
stretches to 2-3s, and more. This is becoming a real deal breaker
for the Flash solution that looked very promising at the beginning.
We need to find the absolute lowest latency setting for the
live streaming application supplied with FMS3.0.
Low latency (1s max) and stable latency has highest priority,
more important than picture quality or uninterrupted streaming.
How can we achieve this? Are there any settings where I can
    tweak the stream latency?
I am not a Flash expert, but I can find and modify the
configuration files on the FMS Windows 2003 server.
Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    On server side:
FMS installs itself with default configurations optimized for
Max CPU efficiency. Reducing/shutting-off FMS publisher queues
using Application.xml config should help in removing the delay that
    you experienced.
    <Application>
    <StreamManager>
    <Live>
    <Queue enabled="true">
    </Queue>
    </Live>
    </StreamManager>
    </Application>
Changing default setting to <Queue enabled="false">
disables live publisher queues & aggregate messages ad
therefore "the delay". (the delay should be reduced to <100 ms
for a perfect kind of network or LAN)
--> On client side: Do NOT use NetStream.setBufferTime API
at all ! i.e. do not set any buffer on client side.; Flash player
(upto 10, the current version) would try its best to keep the
buffer around 0.1 seconds, which is the default value.
    OmicronPersei8,
Which publisher are you using to publish the live stream?
Sometimes , it is possible that a some fault at stream publisher
may make buffer at flash player grow.
I hope this would help !

  • Setting up Email from ISP AT&T/Yahoo

Does anyone know how to set up email from an ISP on the Iphone? I have AT&T/Yahoo as my ISP and my email is @sbcglobal.net. When I try to set it up as Yahoo mail it only allows emails as @yahoo.com.

Actually, you do use the Y! Mail option since it's an AT&T Yahoo branded account. As instructed below, you will add your full e-mail address with @yahoo.com included. Also, you do not need to know the other settings as they are preset.
    http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=11255
AT&T Yahoo! Mail provides push email service on the iPhone.
Push email will transfer email to the iPhone as soon as it received by the AT&T Yahoo! mail server.
To set-up your email account on iPhone:
    1. Go to Settings and select Mail.
    2. Select Add Account.
    3. Select Y! Mail.
    4. Enter your full AT&T Yahoo! email address with @yahoo.com included.
For example, if the AT&T Yahoo! email address is [email protected], then the AT&T Yahoo! email address should be placed in front of the default @yahoo.com entry. The email address should be entered as [email protected]@yahoo.com.
Note: The @yahoo.com is already defaulted in the field and cannot deleted.
    5. Enter your password.
    6. Select Save.

Recently, I changed my ISP, how I can Setting up my Time Capsule again?

Hello. I jus tbought mine and will be setting up shortly. So I am only guessing here, based on how my airport extreme base station acted when I switched once. When you connect the ethernet to it, it should simply find the signal,a nd prompt you for the password information that you set up with the new ISP.
If not, please report back how it goes..

  • 10.6 Server - ISP-in-box - Can it be done?

I have long home-hosted a vanity domain, complete with IMAP/SMTP, web, NAT firewall, DHCP, self-hosted DNS server and the like, using the standard unix tools build into regular 10.4 machine (a 500 MHz G4 that gave 10 years of 24/7 service). Decided to graduate to a MacMini with 10.6 Server. It's not particularly easy to configure, though my ambitions may be pushing the limits.
In essence, I would like to set up a one-machine ISP/hosting service, with DNS server, standard web & email plus user-resolution file transfer/storage/permissions, and the 10.6 Apple-related bells and whistles, like home page syncing, iCal, Address Book, for the users of an arbitrary number of domains (but let's say 3). It's still mainly for me, so bandwidth and reliability are not a significant consideration - for years, I got by without configuring a secondary DNS server. And yes, I know it's cheaper and easier just to lease domains from real ISPs. I gotta server admin jones ... so kill me.
Though I can work the individual features and services (mostly) - create users, configure DNS, etc. - I'm missing some of the big picture concepts.
Is there a direct mapping between a "server" and a domain name (assuming the DNS faces out and is set up right)? Server Admin will let you create a "server", as long as the DNS resolves to a live machine (which can be itself, though it gets confused unless the domains resolve to different IP numbers, even though they are multi-homed through a single ethernet connection).
If so, can I control and configure the various services for each server/domain, independent of the others? If not, what can adding a "server" do, that a DNS entry cannot? What is the difference between a) creating a "server" having web and mail services and b) configuring virtual hosting for web and email? I realize that they'd all sharing the same kernel/applications/(maybe) libraries off the boot volume; what I want is a separate user space for each domain and associated home pages/mail/web/etc. files. Can OD handle the same user name for multiple, independent domains, resolving to their respective domain shares in the same box (in this case, partitioned on different volumes)?
I've spent a lot of time with 3 thick books, plus all the on-line docs, deciphering as much as I can. The virtual hosting info is scant. I'm not looking for a blow-by-blow (just yet), but it would be helpful to get a sense of whether this can be done at all, and if so, perhaps a sketch of the strategy - e.g., how much, and where if at all, do I need to go off the SLS GUI reservation and into the CLI?
Is this a bridge too far? Thanks to any server wizards who can shed some encouraging light.

You are limited to a single Open Directory - so in terms of authentication, you cannot have the same user names on the server more then once. That also means your directory administrator has access to all the users accounts - so you cannot separate account management. The Apple Admin Application does a good job for majority of the virtualisation you are seeking, e.g. mail, domain, web. What you cannot do using the Admin application, you can do by directly configuring the services themselves (but you may end up breaking the Admin). As you know, the majority of the products that apple use are open source and the web is full of information on how to configure them. You will find that whilst the Admin application is good to get you going and is does the job it is intended for, but after time, you will want to move away from it and use the more complex areas of the servers capabilities.
Other than posting questions here, good places for to get more 'internal' configuration information/help on the server are [TopicDesk|http://osx.topicdesk.com> and [afp548|www.afp548.com]

  • Could someone PLEASE tell me how to set up more than one POP mail account.

I am soooo frustrated. Before I upgraded to Tiger I had no problems setting up my mail accounts. Now, I can only set up one POP mail account. I have three mail accounts that I desperately need to set up from the same ISP server, all POP accounts. On Panther and earlier, all I had to do was add the accounts. Now I have ONE POP account and when I try to set up another I get an error message that I already have a POP account set up. Why is this happening and what happened to the old system that worked just fine. I am so annoyed with this. It simply defies logic!!!!

I don't know if this will work or not, but why don't you try using bogus pop and/or smtp server information when you initially establish the accounts with Mail's setup wizard? Just continue through the "warning: cannot validate server" messages that the wizard will give you. Then go into Mail > preferences > accounts and highlight each of the new accounts, one at a time, and try changing the incoming pop and outgoing smtp mail server information to what it is supposed to be?
For the "Outgoing" server just use the pull-down menu, to select it, and when all accounts are done, go into that same pull-down menu and choose "Edit Server List..." to remove the bogus smtp server information.
Incoming should be just renaming that pop server in the "Incoming server" field.
If that doesn't work, I've got something riskier you could try, again with no guarantees, and that is editing your ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file using either the Property List Editor that comes with XCode Tools (will launch automagically when you click on that .plist file if XCode is installed) or with the pico editor in Terminal, and possibly renaming some folders in your ~/Library/Mail folder, too. Again, start with the bogus server info, then find those entries in the .plist file and make changes there.
Note: if not familiar with the notation, "~" means your "home" directory.

  • Can not connect to Admin Console FMS 3.5 running separate Apache Server

Hi All! I have installed the FMS 3.5 Server on a separate IP from our main Apache Server: The server is running Redhat Linux 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5
FMS 3.5 running on ***.***.**.138 using ports 1935, 8080 (Admin Server using port 1111)
Apache 2 running on ***.***.**.139 using port 80, 443. (several sites setup on this IP)
However, when accessing the fms_adminConsole.htm in the root directory of one of the domains on ***.***.**.139, all login attempts fail. I am connecting to localhost and using the assigned user and password set up in fms.ini. Using either IP fails as well. The FMS server is set up to listen to all hosts as no specific IPs were set.
/var/log/messages show that FMS and the Admin Server are up an running and listening:

This is my first time setting up FMS as a fresh install on a new unknown server and I am at a loss as to what settings to check or which files I may need to modify to get it to connect properly. It is a managed server is hosted by rackspace.com if that makes any difference.
Sorry if I have not provided enough info... let me know what I missed and I will supply it.

Sorry for the confusion! *I* am the one really confused. But to answer your question (I hope), the webpage is on the same physical server as the FMS server, but I am using an outside network (I am not on the local server network) to browse the webpages.
Both IPs fail when trying to reach:

  • Setting the smpt port out wil .mac mail

Maybe I'm not getting this, but I want to set the send mail port on my iPhone that is using my .mac account. I looked at the instructions for doing this and go to Setting -> Mail, but I cannot find where to put in the smtp.mac.com:258 or whatever port I'm using. Can some one walk me through where I put this in?
Or do I set up the .mac mail as an "Other" mail account?

Actually, I do need to set my smtp, as my ISP provider will only allow mail out on a specific port, and the .mac preference does not include that port.

  • Unable to set up 'Other' email account

Previously set up office email account with no problems. Received email from Blackberry over two weeks ago that emails may be delayed or not received etc. Waited for a week but still didn't receive emails, resent service book but nothing happened. Deleted email details and tried to reinstall but this didn't work. I enter email address and password and it fails everytime. As the email address is associated with outlook I was previsouly asked for the server details, user name etc but I cannot find this screen anywhere. I'm going round in circles, my provider o2 is unable to help, my web access provider is unable to resolve issue and when I telephoned Blackberry they were most unhelpful.  I do not know why this has happened when it had been working successfully for over two years. Can anyone help please?

    What error message? What settings?
    Possibilities:
By default, Mail assumes you want to connect via SSL (secure); not all mail servers support that.
Many smtp servers won't accept connection except from their own domain. So if you're on a 3G network and you're setting up smtp with another ISP, their server might not take the connection.
A fallback is that Google smtp does relay messages, so you could use that route
