I'm developping a web application that reports errors or 'strange situations' to the application'a admin with an e-mail message to the address entered in a sort of wizard. I've read some tutorials and actually I'm able to send mail via smtp only with authentication, withouth i get this error: "530, Address requires authentication". How can i send mails without authentication?

Normally the administrator of those forums is also the administrator of the SMTP server they use, so they configure the server to accept requests from the forum software without authentication.
If you are running your own SMTP server you can do that too. If you are using somebody else's server you will have to follow their rules. You could always contact the administrator and ask whether you could be made exempt from authentication...

I do not think, there is a version of Outlook right now, that can be used to mail from Aperture. Use "Mail.app" instead.
I do not know, what may be wrong with Facebook upload. The update to 3.4.1 should have fixed the Facebook access problems.

Sending Email Notification: What tags do you add to ns_emails.xsl to configure it for an smtp server that requires authentication? I've tried many things but none of them have worked, I looked all over the oracle forum and found a user who posted the same problem but was not given an answer.

I haven't been able to test it on a server without authentication. Does anyone know a smtp server that allows this?

Problem setting up smtp mail out .

Hi all you good people .
I am having a problem setting up the mail program . I'm using mail two under os-x leopard 10.5.7 . I have the pop mail working fine , but for some reason or another it wont send the mail out . I remember I got it working before , but it was a pain in the butt to do . So I ma forced to use Microsoft Entourage for my mail receiving and sending . I think Microsoft Takes more skill to use than the apple mail program .
I would love for someone to help me solve this . My mail server is from time warner . I use there High speed internet for my mail access .

I assume you are using Mail 3.6, and not "mail two"?
What Authentication are you using on this SMTP? If not already, try using None, and removing Password and Username from SMTP setup for at least one test. Most Roadrunner SMTP are authenticated by reference to the IP address of your Modem, and using a separate authentication of the SMTP results in failure.
Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, then click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP in the section on Outgoing Server. After you click on the arrows, choose Edit Server List. Then if the SMTP is set up with the correct name, etc, click on the Advance Tab, use Custom Port with Port 25, None as authentication, and do not enter any Username and Password. Under authentication of None, the name of the SMTP will not have your Username appended. This is the equivalent, after having previously done the set up, to those email clients with a setting to use the info of the Incoming for authentication.
Let us know, but Roadrunner can vary from area to area on this, but this is the way it seems to always work.

Fun never stops and never know what is coming.
Just when I have my nice tables set up for authentication and authorization,
now I hear that I have to test a scenario where authentication is going to be provided by an external utilty (An LDAP Server behind which PeopleSoft tables have username/pw) info. My questions are:
(1) Is it possible to turn off authentication via J2EE Container but keep Authorization on? I want the ability to use page related security roles! And, yes, there will be a table with usernames and roles as well (which is working).
Change: However, the table with usernames and passwords will be in a PeopleSoft table behind LDAP. (The authentication does work with a few tweaks in web.xml. So, can't complaint there)
(2) Is there a better solution (given the external authentication utility is a given)?
(3) Is there a way to fool JAAS to say, ok don't show the login screen but you are authorized? I now wonder what the DBTableLoginModule do? Can we tell it, "forget authentication, just get the roles?"
I really don't want to lose the authorization provided by JAAS and, not to mention, permissions (which I have not gotten to work but more about that on another post).

1) as said, nothing prevents you from building a JAAS LoginModule that does what you need - e.g. authenticate a user against LDAP, then connect to the database and query for his/her user roles. You can't have container managed authorization without authentication though.
There will be a change in API in JDeveloper 11 (and most likely in JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 - upcoming) that allows you to set a Subject into the OC4J context, in which case you don't need container managed autehntication. However, I don't have it tested yet and can't tell to what extend this would be useful

Authorization without authentication

Hello,
From Java code, is there a way to query the users/groups in Weblogic LDAP without requiring a password? I'm using a Java application with Weblogic 12.1.2 configured to point to an external LDAP server. From a java client, I would like to use the Windows username and query against LDAP to see which groups the user is in. It seems like this is possible using SessionContext.getCallerPrincipal() but I always get 'Anonymous', I believe because the user has not been authenticated. Is there a way to get LDAP user/group information using Java from the Weblogic server without having an authenticated user?

Sounds like you would need to speak to your LDAP / AD admin to set up an user with no authentication ( no credentials ) required . If the're happy to set up that up . problem solved.
Makes me wonder , what is it you are trying to do ? i,e why would you need to query AD without authentication and check / pull details of users. ? Even if the AD admin agrees to set one up. that's a security risk.
In additon you are intending to use that user from within the Java application. Boy ! I'm sure it'll raise quite a lot of heads if thats for an commerical project work .

How to satisfy POP-before-SMTP outgoing authentication?

When using a third party email account (i.e. included with my website hosting account), I am unable to send email. The outgoing server auth method used on my host server is POP-before-SMTP. However, in the iphone settings, there are only 4 choices:[ MD5 C-R // NTLM // HTTP MD5 Digest // Password ] Having set POP or IMAP every 15 minutes is sufficient interval to satisfy ... no problem there ... there doesn't need to be a specific choice for pop-before-smtp, but there does not appear to be a way to choose NO authentication at all for SMTP?
(i.e. with some computer email programs which do not support POP-before_SMTP, we turn outgoing authentication to OFF and ensure that email is retrieved on a regular schedule < 20 minutes, and all works perfectly.) For example, the Android Xperia has a NONE setting for SMTP auth.
There's no choice for either pop-before-smtp nor OFF on the iphone.
Can anyone suggest an app [or is it possible to hack] that would give us this functionality ?
We know we could use our carrier's SMTP, but we want BOTH our incoming/outgoing mail handled on our hosting server.

So, I've set SSL as "required", and also set CRAM-MD5, and basically I can see now that I can't receive any emails.
This really is one of the areas in which the Server Admin GUI lets you down.
If you set SSL as required, many remote servers won't be able to talk to you because they don't talk SSL by default. To enforce SSL for your users you really need a second port that forces SSL in addition to the standard port that doesn't.
You can do that, but only by delving in to Postfix's configuration files.
However, I've gotten something strange - I thought SMTP over SSL should default to 587. Why is it defaulted to 25 still? Do I need to add 587 somewhere else or something?
Ahh, the joys of ports.
There are two methods of implementing SSL with SMTP. One is SMTPS (which runs on port 465), the other is via TLS which uses the standard SMTP port. The difference is that SMTPS encrypts the entire connection (similar to HTTPS vs. HTTP), whereas TLS starts off with a non-encrypted connection and switches to secure once both client and server agree to use it (the client identifies itself, the server states it can use TLS, the client initiates a TLS session).
TLS is the model supported by Postfix, and that's why you still use port 25
Port 587 is the submission port. The line between 25 and 587 is pretty blurry, but many people implement different access controls and/or process rules for port 587 and have local users use that, leaving port 25 for non-local mail. Both ports can support TLS but you need to get under the hood to configure it.

Creating/Mapping security roles without authentication

Hello all, I am new to WebLogic 9.1, and I appreciate your help in advance.
I have an HTTP header pre-populated with the roles a logged-in user has (these roles are defined outside websphere), and the user has already been authenticated.
I want to map each role from my header to a URI configured in weblogic, so it can authorize/deny access to that page within the container, based on the role in the header.
What would be a good approach to doing this? I have been looking through the security documentation, and I am a bit overwhelmed, I'm not sure where to begin.

I misunderstood what Time Capsule is and had hoped for a wireless backup device that didn't have to be connected to the router.
The TC is a wireless backup device.. it does not need to be connected to the main router..
The problem is the computer.. not the TC.. the computer has only one wireless card.. if your current internet is by wireless.. then you must choose.. internet or backup.
But my other suggestion will work.. get a wireless USB stick compatible with Mac OS.. there are plenty and cheap.. since you are in the same room as the TC they will work fine.. plug it in and load the driver.. taint hard.
You should do the first backup by ethernet though.. wireless is too slow.. once you have that, you will do fine.
Search ebay for wireless n usb.. Mac compatible..

As you can see.. they are getting smaller and neater.
I have no idea if it works .. haven't tried one.. but I have used USB wireless stick on the Mac to overcome this issue.
You will need to set static IP .. not hard but you need to set specifics if you do buy one post again for the setup.

Macbook Pro won't let me move files to HD without authentication. Also when I try to move files from the HD to the desk it just copies them.

My 2013 Macbook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5 won't let me move files to the HD without authentication. So I have to keep putting my password in. Also when I try to move files from the HD to the desk it just copies them. This just suddenly happened last night. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thanks
