Setting Up Supervisor Redundancy in a 6500

All,
I am configuring a Cat 6500 with 2 WS-SUP720-3B engines. How do I configure these two engines for redundany? Is there a configuration for this or do you just install them and the software automatically sets the priority. I am asking because I have never set up 2 engines before. Any help would be great.

Use "show redundancy" to verify. Output will be similar to this:
sh redundancy

  • Can`t open password tab to set a supervisor password in security menu of BIOS. BIOS freezes

few days ago I bought one Thinkpad T60. All is fully functional excepting of one issue with BIOS password. It seems there is no password set previously since I can entry the BIOS menu and set all particular entries w/o any problem. Hovewer when I come to the point to set a BIOS password, the BIOS freezes suddently. Can anybody know what could be the reason for that? Is there some solution how to fix it? Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Also just to clarify, reflashing a bios chip won't change the password or remove it, but if the chip is reburnned, which is often done when remanufacturing a board the entire chip's data is replaced. I don't know if this is possible or not, but since you suspected the system was "hacked", it is possible someone improperly reburned the wrong data onto the chip making the supervisor password option non operational. If (and I do stress the "if") this is the problem, then you can get the board repaired. This type of repair is often required if a bios flash is interrupted and the system becomes unusable, and usually costs $100-200.
Your best option might be to just use the system for what it is, or just replace the system board and be done with it.

  • Setting the color temperature control to 6500 on a W510

I've just bought a datacolor Spyder 4 so I can see color casts on my photos. When using it for the first time today It asks me to set the colour temprature to 6500. Try as I might I can't find where to do this. I've been through windows and tried to find the settings also tried  the NVidia settings - these were set to 'other application' anyway.
Can anybody help. It is tiresome doing some corrections everytime I use my home PC after thinging the color was correct on my w510.

  • Problems with setting up DNS Redundancy - Mavericks

    Hi All,
I'm attempting to setup a 2nd OSX server for OD, DNS and DHCP redundancy. I've followed all instructions I have found online but I'm having problems . below is what I'm running and what I've done.
    Main server.
    server.superannuationproperty.org - 10.0.0.1.
    Failover 2nd server
    server2.superannuationproperty.org - 10.0.0.9
    1. I setup zone transfers on the Primary and Reverse zones - main server.
2  On Failover server added a Secondary zone  - server.superannuationproperty.org with IP 10.0.0.1 and for the Reverse in my case was 1.0.0.10.in-addr.arpa and 10.0.0.1.
    3. Added forwarding servers on the Failover as 8.8.8.8 and ISP DNS server (as it is on the main server)
4 Changed Failover DNS settings to point to itself first then to the ISP DNS and 8.8.8.8
Internet is working fine on the server but I can't ping server2.superannuationproperty.org and when I run a "checkhostname" I get "The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool" message.
I assume this is why my OD replica isn't working too. I'm able to add the replica ok but when creating new users on the main, they show up on the failover but with "not allowed" I'm also unable to login to clients when the main server is powered off.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here??
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply.  I have DHCP redundancy working by dishing out two different ranges and yes i've set DHCP so clients get both servers. 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.9
I still can't get DNS to work however.... after stuffing around with it today  i decided to start from scratch and rebuilt the failover server with a fresh copy of Mavericks and Server.
I gave the server a local address this time server2.local
    I setup a secondary zone of Server.superannuationproperty.org - 10.0.0.1 and Reverse of 1.0.0.10.in-addr.arpa - 10.0.0.1
After running a "checkhostname" i'm still getting "The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool."
I ran nslookup on 10.0.0.9 with "server can't find 9.0.0.10.in-addr.arpa.: NXDOMAIN" and on server2.local with "server can't find server2.local: NXDOMAIN"
    i can ping server2.local however...
I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. I don't want to attempt to join the Master OD until I have DNS sorted out.
I checked the logs under DNS config see below. From what i can see it's transferred the zone info from the main server, i just don't know what's wrong??? Thanks.

  • How do I set upePrint on a HP Officejet 6500 wireless all in one E709n?

I can not find the Eprint code to print from my tablet. Where do I find the code for this printer?

  • Does supervisor password sets master hard drive password?

On lost or forgotten password - ThinkPad General we read "setting a supervisor password automatically sets the master hard drive password". This one is a powerful feature that allows administrators recovering disks whose user password has been set to an unknown string.
Does this feature applies to old systems too, let us say T40 and X40-series ThinkPads, or only to new ones?
If this feature does not apply to old systems is there a way to set a master password (only a master password, not a user one) on the drives of these old ThinkPads? Up to my knowledge the only choices are user password or master + user password. My goal is providing a mean to recover control on a drive whose user password has been set without requiring users provide a password each time the computer is booted.
    Thanks!
Edit: found a reference to supervisor password setting a master hard drive password automatically from march 2008, however I am interested in computers from 2004 up to 2006.

AFAIK, on the old systems such as T4x/X4x one must set both the user and the master password.

  • Supervisor 2 hybrid or IOS-only

    Hi all;
I have two 6509 running with sup1A using IOS and CatOS. I'm replacing them for SUP2 and I'd like to move to unified IOS.
Is there any reason to continue with CatOS ?? Which solution is the best ??
The two Cat's are running in redundancy. If I isolate one, make the upgrade and the new configuration and bring it back, Is there any problem with one running IOS and the other running CatOS ??
    Thanks

You should get higher performance overall with Native IOS. We found the pricing of the newer Sup720's to be about the same as the Sup2's, but much nicer though, so we went with those instead.
If you're running single sup's in each Cat, you should be fine having one on IOS the other on CatOS. However, you can't do this if you have redundant supervisors in a single 6500.

  • What's the difference between redundancy and recovery window for retention?

    Hello all,
I'm still trying to get a grip on this concept for RMAN backup planning.
I recently ran into a situation as follows.
I have the backups set to a redundancy of 1.
I have instance1, which had GRID jobs to run RMAN backups as follows
Incremental database level=0 weekly at Wed at 2:30am
I have daily backups, incremental level=1 each evening
I have archive log backups through the day.
What happened, was that apparently on a Tues some time, the development team deleted data from almost every table in their schema.
The didn't discover this till midday or so on Wednesday.
I went to try to restore...and RMAN couldn't do it. I had found a SCN for early the Tues they did it...but I got the following error:
    RMAN> RUN
    2> {
    3> SET UNTIL SCN 4590383198282;
    4> RESTORE DATABASE;
    5> RECOVER DATABASE;

    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATADG/instance1/datafile/system.284.697137287'
From what research I did...it appears that since I did not have a level=0 incremental from before, it could not reset the database back in time. The previous one had been deleted since, I guess I had a redundancy of 1.
So, I thought I had a week backup they way I have it set..but that assumes that errors are found pretty quickly before the next level=0 backup.
I want at least 1 to 1.5 weeks worth of backups. I do have the problem that we do not have many tapes in rotation, so I cannot go for too long...may 2x weeks tops.
I'm trying to rethink my strategy, but I'm confused as I read as to the difference between setting RMAN retention with redundancy vs recovery window.
Can someone give me an explanation how you understand it? I'm reading on the web and in oracle books, and for some reason, it just isn't clear to me what is the best way to go....especially when I see that redundancy and recovery window might both be set??
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

    Dear Cayenne
AFAIK RMAN doesn't claim that "you haven't enough backup". Please read the error you got carefully
ORA-01180: can not create datafile 1
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATADG/instance1/datafile/system.284.697137287'
    and check the following link:
ORA-01180: Cannot create datafile 1 when doing RMAN restore onto 2nd server
Moreover, could you please use LIST BACKUP command and see whether you have enough backups?
Read "Redundancy Based Backup Retention Policy" from the following link:

I have the same problem - no idea what to do to correct.  Yesterday I replaced the magenta cartridge and within an hour it was telling me the cartridge was empty.  Turned it off and today when I turned it back on it sees the magenta cartridge as full.  Useless as it is tho, with the colors all pink.

  • Disk utility Q: setting up RAID with 2 firewire drives

    Hi,
I tried setting up a redundant RAID with two LaCie 250gb firewire drives in Apple's Disk Utility. All was OK until I restarted. The RAID didn't show up, and both disks came up as unreadable. I was unable to reformat, erase, repair, or partition either of the LaCie drives. I tried new cables and both the front and rear Firewire ports. No matter what I did, I got an input/output error.
I was able to erase and reformat one of the drives on my powerbook running 4.6. The other drive appears to be DOA, as it clicks and blinks and does little else.
So what gives? I'm going to exchange the dead drive, but I don't want to have the same problem with setting up a RAID if the same nonsense is going to happen again. Any thoughts?

FW RAID on G5s is PITA and very poor performance. You would also need a PCI FW800 controller to get a boost or anything like normal. If you want any type of RAID, invest in Serial ATA drive/case/controller.
SeriTek if you want it to be bootable. SeriTek or Sonnet for direct connect. Sonnet if you think you might need more than 4 drives and use Port Multiplier.
There is only one FW channel that has to be shared if you don't invest in one or more FW800 controllers.
My bet is the drive could be fine but needs to be zeroed and could have damaged boot blocks at this point.
I am not a fan of mirrors. Backups, yes, lots. Stripped for scratch and even a dedicated boot OS/apps, yes. I've run with Disk Utility and SoftRAID (3.5) for 4 yrs now but mostly SCSI and one FW800 RAID which only gets about 75-80MB/sec. Even a single drive gets near 60MB/sec and a mirror would cut that in half.

  • Satellite L670-134 How to delete Supervisor password?

Hey, i have an epic problem.
I was with some friends in a w-lan net and then some Trojan were placed to every of our Laptops. Now he took my administrator rights and set an Supervisor Password.
Now i cant use my Laptop anymore.
Can u help me pls fast ?

You know what supervisor password is?
The supervisor password is only to secure Bios settings and Hardware setup.
Mostly set by an administrator so a user can't change Bios settings.
The user may start and shut down the notebook however he wants and he is able to work with the machine normally - he just needs the supervisor password to enter the Bios or Hardware setup.
So its kind of security and if you dont know this password, you can not delete this
In such case you have to contact the Toshiba ASP in order to remove this ;(

  • CVP - SIP Server Groups and Redundant SIP Proxy (CUPS)

I am migrating from a CVP 7 + UCCE 7.5 solution which uses srv.xml files on the CVP servers to implement redundancy
from CVP to the SIP Proxies (which are CUPS based).
In the new CVP 8.5 + UCCE 8.5 solution, I am trying to set up equivalent redundancy, which
is now done via Server Groups.
The solution is geographically diverse, with one CVP server + a CUPS server (publisher) at Site1,
and the second CVP + CUPS server (subscriber) at site 2.
Previously (on CVP 7), I was able to configure each CVP server so that its priority was to use the CUPS server at its
"local" site. Hence there were 2 different srv.xml files, one for each CVP server.
To configure this in CVP 8.5, I would need 2 SIP Server groups, to give each CVP a group
configured to prefer the "local" CUPS server. But when I configure a SIP server group(s) pointing to CUPS, I seem to be only able
to get one single Server Group to work. That single Server Group only works if the server group name
matches exactly the Domain Name configured in CUPS. Since CUPS' Domain name is a single cluster wide name,
I can get only one Server Group working, not the two that I need.
So, where am I going wrong?
    Regards.

Fairly new to CVP and had a question about how to configure the dialed number patterns so they point to more than 1 CUCM. My environment doesn't have a SIP Proxy or DNS Srv. That said, I tried to create as what was mentioned above - SIP Serve Group with 2 CUCM Subs then have a dialed number pattern point to it. However, when I initiate a call to an ICM script and eventually hit an agent, it flips between ready and reserve. When I change the dialed number pattern to point to a specific CUCM, it works fine. Followed all the aobve recommendations as well. Any idea how to make this work? Hoping I'm just missing something here...

  • Dynamic reskilling from supervisor desktop

    Hello.
I saw in a document that it can do dynamic reskilling by administrator or supervisor. Can i asign dynamically the skills to agents from the supervisor desktop and how?
    Thanks

    Hi
Are you talking UCCX or UCCE?
In UCCX there is no ability to change skills from the Supervisor Desktop, but you can log into AppAdmin as the Supervisor and get a restricted view of AppAdmin which allows you to change skills (as long as you have set the 'Supervisor access to teams' system parameter to allow it).
