Settings missing location services

I have a user who says "location services" does not appear on the general tab of the settings app. Does that make any sense? Has it moved in a beta iOS release?

When I go into settings, my iPad is ON the general tab. Location services is exactly 3 selections up from the general tab. It should absolutely be there.

How do I turn off the Genius app in App Store. I've gone to Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services then swiped Genius for apps 'off''. Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius. Still nothing has worked. I'm still stuck with Genius offering the same apps to me. Mind you, once I click on the App Store there is nothing I can do but swipe left and right. There's absolutely nothing at the bottom of the screen like a features tab, nothing. There is, however, a categories button at the top, but that's it. Irrelevant.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this.  I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether.  I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed.  For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Missing location services icon from the first page (ios 6)

Everything was fine after upgrading to ios 6, but after I used the cellular data the location services disappeared from the first page of settings instead appeared personal hotspot. This is normal or this is a bug and how can I restore everything as it was?

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner!  Thanks so much Steve A.  Double tapping the Home button does toggle the player controls on and off from the lock screen.
I was hoping it would be something simple like that.
Just wondering, is that functionality explained somewhere?  As I wrote in my first post I did several searches to come up with a fix or explanation for this issue.
    Cheers.

  • HT5594 I upgraded to IOS 7 this weekend, however when I go into Privacy - Location Serivces; I cannot click on location services to change my settings.  Anyone have any help for this?

    Has anyone run into this?

    Hey pitttags,
Thanks for the question. If your Locations Services page seems greyed out, or "dimmed", this could be due to limitations set by Restrictions. Using Restrictions in iOS 7, one could prevent changes to location services (including enabling/disabling). You may want to check these settings:
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions (parental controls)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
You can prevent changes to Privacy settings, including:
    - Location Services
If your iOS device is missing a particular application or if a certain feature is not available, ensure that Restrictions are not enabled. Symptoms can include:
    - App missing from the Home screen (such as Safari, Camera, or FaceTime)
    - Feature or service unavailable (such as Siri or Location Services)
    - Setting missing or dimmed (such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar; iCloud; Twitter; FaceTime)
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • New iMovie app for iPhone 4 not showing up in Location Services (Settings)

iMovie app for iPhone 4 not showing up in Location Services (Settings). It apprently needs to be both viaible and turned on in Settings/General/Location Services in order for the app to discover previously taken video (Location Services correctly recognizes other apps of mine that utilize location-aware services).
I think the following is related to and caused by this problem above: iMovie App for iPhone 4 is not recognizing video clips I have made, whether they're in Photo Album, or iPhone 4 native movies that have been throughout this process: [sync with iPhoto on Mac > save to to iPhoto album > sync album to iPhone 4].

Just had this same problem. The solution is to turn Location Services on before launching iPhone iMovie.
Yes, iMovie needing GPS coordinates is crazy, as is the error message that doesn't correctly explain the problem. Looks like a bit of a rush job.

  • HT1975 Some of my apps and iphone info tells me to go to "settings" and in "settings" go to "location services" to enable apps such as a golf app to use gps .  When I go to "settings" there is no option called "location services". Why not?

Some apps and iphone info tells me to go to "settings" and in "settings" choose "location services".  Under settings on my phone there is no "location services". What's up with that?

Pick the appropriate link for the version of iOS installed on your device.
FYI, the iPhone 4S never ran iOS4 so the link from which the questions was posted is not relevant to your device.

If you are looking for this area, in the newer iOS, it is Settings>Privacy>Location Services. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here, so I cannot give you more information. Is it possible you are trying to give this program access to photos in your Camera Roll? Please provide a little more information.

  • IOS 8 Location Services

In iOS7  a user could set location services to standby/disable when the app was minimized.  Apple has taken this feature away for most applications.  Now you only get two choices ("Always" or "Never").  When set to always, an application like Waze or Trapster and many more will use your position EVEN WHEN THE APPLICATION HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE tray.  When set to NEVER you have to go in and manually turn it back on to use the applications' location services, then off again when done.   Not only is this an personal invasion of privacy, it causes the excessive battery drain.
Question: Am I missing a setting that will allow me to disable location services when the app is not in use in iOS8?
Please join me in spreading the word and in making sure apple knows they need to re-enable the ability to disable location services in iOS8 when the App is not being used.

Try this.  I had a different problem but it might help:
settings --> privacy --> location services
scroll the the very bottom and click on System Services
now try disabling/enabling the services in here.

  • IOS 8.1.2 Location Services constantly being used

There is a bug with 8.1.2 and I am not sure where to report it.
Location services is constantly in use.
The System Services settings I disabled were apparently reenabled with the iOS 8.1.2 update and this is killing the battery on my iPad 3.
I have a solution but really this should not be happening in the first place so where do I log this bug?

You can see which app is using location services here: Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
Apps with a purple arrow next to them are using your location services.

  • Reminders not showing up in Location Services

My Reminders App is does not appear in Settings under Location Services and thus does not offer reminders when I arrive or leave a location.  Shouldn't Reminders have automatically appeared as an app under location services when I activated the phone?  Any solution on how to get it to show up so I can turn on location services for Reminders and thus get the app working correctly?

Another way to fix this without disabling Exchange reminders is to change the iPhone default calendar to a calendar other than the Exchange calendar. E.g. your iCloud calendar.
This also allows you to use location-based Reminders again, because new Reminders get created in the iCloud calendar instead of the Exchange calendar.
This does however mean that any new Calendar item (meeting etc.) created on the phone will by default be created in the iCloud calendar too unless you manually pick your Exchange calendar when creating a new Calendar item.
Some may find this annoying and prefer to stick to the simple solution of switching off Reminders. Note that this still means that all new reminders will be created locally on the iphone, or on icloud if you have an icloud account set up. Reminders will never show up for example in MS Outlook any more. The way around this would be to install Apple's iCloud application on your desktop and choose to display iCloud reminders in Outlook. This way you would then see your iCloud reminders from your iPhone in Outlook again! Phew.. what a workaround

  • How do I add an app to my location services when it does not come up automatically, How do I add an app to my location services when it does not come up automatically

How do I add an app to location services when it does not appear automatically

Have you tried Settings>Privacy>Location Services and see if you can turn it on in there?
Obviously it has to be an app that works with location services so if it is and nothing else works, delete the app and download it again to make it ask again if you want to allow your location to be used with it.

After updating to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 I cannot enable location services. How do I enable location services? I have tried turning off restrictions but that did not work.

I finally just resolved this after not being able to enable location services since upagrading to iOS 7. Posting the solution here 'cause I couldn't find it anywhere else.
I enabled Restrictions under Settings > General > Restrictions and created a passcode (I'm not sure if this was part of the solution, but it wasn't enabled for me by default.)
In Restrictions, under Privacy, Location Services was set to "Allow Changes" (This still didn't solve the issue of the greyed-out Location Services switch though - I still couldn't turn it on.)
Also in Restrictions, I also switched "Find My Friends" to "Allow Changes"
Once I did step 3, the switch under Settings > Privacy > Location Services was no longer greyed out and could be switched on.
    Hope this helps!
