Setup 1941 router with cable modem and 2 vlan?
hello everyone,
i need a little help setting up my new 1941 router with cable modem using 2 vlns.
this is what i have:
1- 1941 router configured as g0/0 wan port facing isp configured as (dhcp). g0/1 is lan facing the switch (192.168.1.1)
dhcp pool (192.168.1.x)
2- sg300-28pp switch.
3- wap371 AP/ 11pcs..
now everything is working perfect except sometimes we have more than 250 to 300 people trying to connect to the wifi, the router will have no enough ip addresses.
i heard that i can setup 2 vlans to solve this problem? and is there any setup that i have to do on switch and Access points?
please i will appreciate any little help
Regards
hello Andre Neethling i added network 192.168.0.0 255.255.254.0 to dhcp pool config and it seems that it is working but i am concern that i am going to have problem in the future so please take a look at the running config and let me know if i have everything done right. also we want to order static ip address from the provider for our security camera system and we will not longer receive dhcp ip from them and my router setup is to receive it as dhcp on g0/0 so what i should do about changing the settings on g0/0?
i appreciate your help

At random points throughout my laptop usage, I randomly disconnect from the internet and receive these 2 messages:
1. The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.
2. The default gateway is not available.
It fixes the issue for a short period of time, but constantly happens. This is really starting to annoy me. I have no problems on any other internet, and other people i live with are connected with no issues to the internet. I have tried a number of solutions
online that has "worked" for others to no success such as resetting the router, fooling around with command prompt, and changing the performance settings to not drop internet when low on power. Does anyone have a solution for my technical problems?
I am running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo ideapad that is less than a year old. I will be honest I am not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to computers, so please use simplified explanations.Checked this ?

How do I set up Airport Extreme with cable modem and router?
Hi--
I'm having a house built and all of the wiring for TV, phone, and internet will be centralized in a closet. The cable modem can be placed there as well. In one room in the basement I want to use my Airport Extreme for my iMac and USB external hard drives. In another location of the basement, I'd like to set up a Time Capsule for another desktop and USB printer. If the cat5e comes out of the wall at each location, I "think" I need a router at the closet location. I also thought I might need an Airport Express upstairs on first or second floor to boost signal for my laptop. The house isn't that big so maybe that's overkill. So beyond the router question, do I want to set up a roaming network and have the Airport Express connected via ethernet or just wireless if the thought is that I need this? Finally, if I should connect cable modem to router to Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc., in what order and ports does the equipment get connected? Many thanks!!Welcome to the discussions, Forum Girl!
It would be best to position the cable modem and main router in the central location like the closet if possible. The other devices would connect via ethernet to the wall jacks in each room.
If you could setup a "roaming" wireless network as you mention, this will give you better wireless performance and coverage. This is the way commercial establishments like airports, businesses, etc. are configured for wireless.
The order of connection would go something like this: ethernet connection > cable modem >main router>devices. Devices could be computers, routers, a backup device, etc. Since the Extreme has only 3 LAN ports for ethernet connections, you will also need to plan to install an "ethernet switch" near the location of the main router to provide enough ethernet jacks. If you are planning to use DirectTV, etc or your audio/video devices require ethernet connections (most new products do for updates and extra features), be sure to plan for that as well.
Make sure that CAT5e or CAT6 wiring is run so you will be able to take advantage of faster gigabit speeds.
Finally, it would be a good idea to work with an IT specialist to go over your plans to make sure all the bases are covered. This would be money well spent. -
Trouble connecting Cisco router with cable modem for Internet purposes
So I am requesting help from the Cisco community on this issue as the cable company states there equipment is working fine. At all my facilities I have a guest Internet service setup through a local Internet provide to provide Internet services to the residents and guests. I have the cable modem usually a Motorola SBG6580 or a SMC 8014 (both provided by cable company) connected to my router on a FE or GE interface. I am using static IPs and using the cable modem just as a modem (bridge mode). Over the past several months these connections have just stopped working. I have not made any drastic changes to my router configs; however, the cable company has updated the firmware on these modems. I am wondering if that could affected how the modem and router talk. I was told by the cable company that the modem sees the Cisco router but that the port is inactive. My router shows the port is active and traffic passing. Does anyone have any ideas that could point where the problem lies? I will post a basic config to one that currently does not work. I am using a VRF to route a certain group out, using NAT. Please let me know if I need to post additional info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IMac with cable modem and apple AirPort Extreme base station
AirPort Extreme setup 2 weeks ago and workred fine. Then upgrade to lion 10.8.3 started problem. Computer shows no Internet ( yellow light) for "Internet" but green light on AX. Cable modem actually shows connection to Internet at gigabit speed. Wireless ipad works fine. Computer will not access Internet either wireless or thru Ethernet. Must be a setting I am missing somewhere?
Solved my problem. I had checked, in the Apple Preferences folder, internet share. I unchecked it and everything performed like before. Thanks, self.

The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and Internet is broken
When I turn on my computer, this problem came out as the title. I don't know why, but it can not connect to the Internet. The Internet is OK, my another computer could connect it. Anyone can solve the problem? Thank you very much!
Hi,
Try to reset the TCP/IP stack go to this article and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself:
How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Also you could try to reset winsock to check if it helps.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
2. Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click ‘Run as administrator’. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
3. At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
netsh winsock reset
Then, you should see the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
Restart the computer and check if it works fine.

Router not communicating with cable modem
I have a befw11s4 ver 3 router that has functioned well for over 5 years and the other day we had a lightning strike that wiped out our cable modem. The modem was replaced but the router seems to have a problem. First, the power led does not lite up but the WLAN Act and WLAN link led's are ok.(green) When I try to setup the router with the CD the I get a message that the router will not communicate with the internet and stops. If you connect the computer directly to a access point the led's (link/act & full/col) and you can ping and talk to it.
So, is there a way to determine if the router was destroyed by the lighgtning strike or if the router just needs to be reloaded? Thanks in advance for your replies.Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now check if the Power Light is ON on the router or not...? If there is solid power light the, you can reconfigure your router....If there is still no power light then check if you are getting any ip address from the router....
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter..If you are getting 4 replies then...you can manually setupyour router...Ifyou are not getting the replies then, you router must have gone bad.

Best Router with DSL Modem for use with AT&T DSL and Airport Express?
I recently had my old 2WIRE from AT&T DSL service die, so purchased a new 2WIRE 2701HG-B. My old 2WIRE worked with my Airport Express, which is hooked up to my DVR for DirecTV use. The new 2WIRE apparently is not compatible with the Airport Express, so I returned it and purchased a NetGear Wireless-N 300 Router with DSL modem. While this one does work with the Airport Express setup, it runs very slow. This router has mediocre reviews, so I'd like to find a better one.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for a Router w Modem that would work best with my AT&T DSL and Airport Express (802.11n) within the $100 - $150 price range. Thanks!Configure the Express as a bridge: Connect via "Ethernet", and set Connection Sharing to "off (bridge mode)".
The switches ought not to be a problem, and I don't know why your router froze. The Express is simply another wired client, just like a computer might be.
do I turn off DHCP on the router,
No. Something has to provide routing functions so leave the Linksys alone. -

Open routers set up page ..... click status & see the firmware version ...... if required update ....download the latest firmware from http://www.linksys.com/download ........

What is the proper config for the Airport Extreme when a Voice over IP device is between the cable modem and the router. Its a VoIPo device. The cable modem is connected to the VoIP WAN port and the LAN port on the device feeds the Airport Extreme. The VOIP is working fine, and my Mac are getting 10. addresses from the Airport Extreme. But I do get confict messages and lose my connection periodicaly. Looking for help.
Its a VoIPo device.
Per chance, is this device the Grandstream HT502? -
Back to my mac doesn't work with Cable modem
I have at home Cable modem and a Airport Extreme, both use NAT to distribute internet, so it seems even if I connect the cable modem direct to my home Mac (without the Airport) that the Back to my mac doesn't work. Can somebody tell me how can I turn around this problem? Doesn anybody has it too?
The Back to my Mac panel displays this message when I have the Airport Extreme distribuiting the Internet: Back to My Mac isn't working properly because you may have more than one device on your network providing Network Address Translation (NAT). Try disabling NAT on one the devices.
And without the Aiport: Back to My Mac isn't working properly because it requieres a router that supports NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Make sure your router supports one of these protocols and that it is enabled. If I may continue this thread, I have the same double NAT issue and am using a DSL modem/router combo. I added an Airport Extreme to my Qwest supplied Actiontec dsl Modem/Router in hopes it would solve issues with Back to my Mac, among other things. The dsl modem supports UPnP to some degree, but BtmM doesn't seem to like it.
Currently the setup uses the DSL modem/router first in line, functioning as modem, NAT, router, but no DHCP (or wifi). That plugs into the WAN port of the Airport BaseSta. The Base Station runs in bridge mode, and distributes the ethernet and wifi connections. I would rather bridge the modem and disable its router functions, and let the Airport handle NAT and routing and wifi and Back-To-My-Mac.
What are the alternatives? Any help appreciated! -
I recently replaced my cable modem and now my Time Capsule only works with the one Mac Air and not my other devices (another Mac Air, iPad, and iPhone). Any suggestions?
It sounds like you have gone from a cable router with the TC bridged to a cable modem with no router.. so the first device to connect pick up the IP address. Did the cable company give you the same model?? Check if it is a pure modem or a modem router.. and what the last one was.
Anyway.. you should redo the setup.. do you have any computer with ethernet?? Did you buy a USB to ethernet adapter for one of your airs.. very hard to do setup without ethernet.
Also download the new utility.. with the old style.

If you happen to be on Lion.
Redo the setup and make sure you setup correctly to router mode if the cable modem has no router or bridge mode if it is a router. -
Should Iplace my ethernet switch between cable modem and airport extreme?
I'm looking for the best placement of an ethernet switch in my home network.
Should I place it "between" my cable modem and my AEBS or connect it to the output from my AEBS?
The current placement is connected to one of the AEBS outputs.
I'm attempting to set up an old AE (802.11 a/g from 2004) with a different network name than my home network, that I'm trying to set up for a college dorm network and each time I plug the AE to the switch to confirm its functionality, my network gets a little confused.
Help appreciated.
Regards,
jim P.Should I place it "between" my cable modem and my AEBS or connect it to the output from my AEBS?
This all depends on whether you have a simple modem.....or.....a modem/router or gateway combination device.
If you have a simple modem, you cannot place the switch between the modem and the AEBS. The reason for this is that the modem can only deliver one valid IP address and it will be a matter of chance as to which of the devices connected to the switch receives it. The other device connected to the switch will not be able to access the Internet.
If you have a modem/router or gateway type of device, you can place the switch after the modem/router and before the AEBS if you wish, although there is really no advantage to doing so unless this makes things easier for you in terms of hook up.
If none of this makes much sense at all to you, leave the switch in its current location connected to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS since that setup will work correctly no matter what type of "modem" that you might have. -
Time Capsule connectivity issues with cable modem
I have Comcast internet service (coming through a Linksys CM100 modem, no router) plugged directly to a 2TB dual-band TimeCapsule. In the past this has been working, and the TimeCapsule has been providing internet access to three Macs, as well as backing them up. I also have an AirPort Extreme base station (not the dual-band one but not the 2003-era UFO-shaped one either) that has been connected to the TimeCapsule over house ethernet to provide wireless through the rest of the house. Last night my connection kept dropping out. I could connect to one wifi network and it would not work, then I would connect to the other and it would work for a while before stopping. I have disconnected everything and then replugged only the cable modem and my TimeCapsule. When ethernet is plugged directly into my iMac from the modem, I get an internet connection without issue. When I plug it into the TimeCapsule, it reports an internet connectivity error. It says it gets no IP address, and no DHCP setting that I provide it with alleviates this message.
I'd be gratful for any suggestions on how to fix this issue. I don't really want to wipe the TimeCapsule completely, as it contains our backups to last July. When ethernet is plugged directly into my iMac from the modem, I get an internet connection without issue. When I plug it into the TimeCapsule, it reports an internet connectivity error.
Because cable modems associate and "remember" the device with which they have established a connection, they need a complete reset whenever you change the device that is immediately connected to them.
Push the reset button, If present, on your modem
Power off the modem
Pull the battery if it is easily accessible
Power off everything else on the network, order if not important
Wait at least 15 minutes
Make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule
Power up the modem and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the Time Capsule the same way
Power up each of your other devices about a minute apart
Check for proper operation the network.

Select from table where field contains the first 3 character
The value of the field contains leading zeros like 0000000123, 0000001123, 0000011123. Now we need to check the table for entries that contains the first three characters excluding the zeros. If we are looking for '123' then we should be retrieving 0
