Shadow not printing

I'm printing some place cards (using a business card template) using Snell Roundhand with a shadow, and with a border image on the card. On the screen, the shadow looks great, but it doesn't print. I've tried every print option, and have even reinstalled the Canon driver from the Leopard Install DVD.
I've tried exporting to PFD, and the shadows don't display when viewed with either Preview, Adobe Reader, Safari, ColorSync Utility, or Fireworks 8 (so in this case I suspect the export code).
I've been able to print the shadow by copying the text and placing it in a new document. Removing the border image from the business card doesn't let the shadows print. Since I can print shadows sometimes (not all times) with a new document with a single line of text, how can this be a printer driver issue?
Does anyone have any ideas?
OS: Leopard 10.5.1
Pages: 3.0.1
Printer: Canon i850
Thanks!

Same Problem here. But shadows are printed as a black background border. Text with shadow for example is always printed on a black background. Removing the shadow causes the print output to be such as I want, on white (for example) background.
Strange thing...

The same mess again inPages 08 ... When one attaches shadows to boxes or letter they show up nicely, You adjust them until they look well and the You print them: ugly black lines or blocks instead of the adjusted shadows. No idea of WYSIWYG! The situation is the same in Pages 08 like in the former product.
The only way to circumvent this error is: print as PDF - but You have to make many many tries to get the shadow You want. What You see on the screen (Apple Display) is far away from that what comes out on a PDF.
Thanks for good ideas or thanks to anyone who can make Apple to get this long lasting error corrected.

  • Pie chart drop shadows not printing properly.. cuts off right hand side of pie chart...???

Every time I go to print a pie chart that has a drop shadow applied to it, it cuts off the right hand side of the chart along with the shadow itself.  It looks HORRIBLE!!!  I went through and created a bunch of reports using that method, and now ALL of them have this problem.  It makes ZERO sense to me, and it appears that nobody else is experiencing this.  Does anybody have any ideas?

  • Drop shadow not printing correctly

I have an image on top of a solid color and I want to add a very light dropshadow to the image. Everything looks fine on screen, but when I print, either as an InDesign or PDF file, there is a lighter version of the background color that surrounds the image and drop shadow. I imagine there is a setting I need to adjust inorder to print this properly but have not been able to figure it out. Any ideas? I am using CS3.

    Thanks Bob that worked great!
Now in terms of printing to a PDF in order to upload the file to an online printer, are there any other precautions I need to take to ensure a proper print on their end?

  • Print Module: Faint shadow around printed image (Mac OS, Canon 9500)

I am seeing a faint shadow around my prints. On 8.5x11 prints it extends above and below the image as though it's completing the parts of the cell that don't contain the image. On 13x19 prints it extends above and below the image in thin strips, but not all the way to the cell size. This is for 3:2 aspect ratio images.
It looks like Lightroom is trying to print white within the parts of the cell not containing the image, but that white is being translated into near white before being printed, perhaps because of a bad color management setting. But I don't understand why Lightroom is doing this at all, rather than just not printing anything where there is no image. The colors in the image itself look accurate, at least to my eyes.
I got this printer about a year ago, and I wasn't seeing this at first. I just noticed this recently, but I went and looked at some older prints and some of them have it and some don't, so sadly I am not certain when it started or what changed when it did.
I am using Lightroom 2.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 using the printer drivers that came with Snow Leopard. The printer is a Canon PIXMA Pro9500 using standard LUCIA ink. The paper is Ilford Galerie Golf Fibre Silk, and I'm using Ilford's ICC profile for this paper and printer.
As for color management, in the Print Module I have the profile set to the Ilford profile, and I have the rendering intent set to perceptual, although this happens with relative as well.
In the printer driver, when I click "Print Settings…" in the Print Module, color matching is set to ColorSync. The only other choice is Canon Color Matching, but that's grayed out.
Is anyone else seeing this and can it be fixed?
I am frustrated that Lightroom is printing where there is no image. It's very obvious when I print a square image so there is a great deal of empty space on either side of the image. I can see the print head going back and forth for a couple of inches where there is no image. I don't understand why Lightroom can just make the printer advance the paper to where the actual image starts.
I'm not looking for a workaround. I know I could just live with it or just mat the print such that the faint shadow can't be seen. I'd rather actually understand what Lightroom or my printer is doing.
    Thanks!

I played around with it and it's definitely Lightroom. The faint color is being laid down inside the area defined by Cell Size where there is no image.
For example, I have a 3:2 aspect ratio image. I am using US Letter size paper. I have 1-inch margins left and right, and 1.38-inch margins top and bottom. That translates into a Cell Size of 8.24 by 6.5 inches. To fit into the cell, my image size is 8.244 by 5.496 inches. So my image is the same height as the cell, but it's about 1 inch shorter in width, so I get a pair of 1/2-inch wide faint color bars on either side of the image.
If I change Cell Size so that it is the same width but longer height than my image, then I get faint bars above and below the image, rather than on either side. As long as the Cell Size is not equal to the image size, then I'll get the faint bars anywhere in the cell where there is no image.
If I manually type in the the Cell Size to exactly match the image size, then I get no bars.
This means to me that Lightroom is "printing" white everywhere inside the cell where there is no image, and for some reason that white is being rendered as something other than white on the paper. I don't understand why, nor do I understand why Lightroom needs to print anything at all where there is no image.
But at least for now I have a workaround, although I'd rather fix the problem.

  • Epson R800, 8.17 Drivers and 10.6.2 still not printing properly

    Hi,
I am also having problems even with the new 8.17 drivers.
I have been doing some testing and there are definite differences between how Leopard and Snow Leopard prints.
I have printed the TC9.18RGB iSis(A4) test chart (for building output profiles with Gretag Macbeth's ProfileMaker 5.0.8).
If I print this chart in 10.5.8 with 3.0.9 drivers from PS CS4 with no colour management selected in PS and with colour management disabled in the printer driver, the charts print as I would expect them to, with clear, distinct steps. I have seen this chart printed so many times, I just know how it should look.
However, if I print the same chart in 10.6.2 with colour management switched off in PS and 8.17 driver, the same chart looks dark, almost like they are only representing the 3/4 tones to shadow end.
I went ahead and built my profiles anyway from the odd-looking Snow Leopard charts, with the captured target data from the less-than-ideal charts and the shadow-end of the profile is screwed, getting a very greenish cast.
The one thing I have noticed is that in the 10.6.2 / 8.17 driver if you select No Colour Adjustment and click on the Advanced Colour Settings, it shows you the ColorSync Profile based upon your paper type - so I wonder if there is still some colour managing going on, which obviously you don't want when printing test charts.
    Anyone else have any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Matthew

Matthew, I dont' have an answer for your problem but wonder if you can help me with mine. I also have an R800 but since installing SL cannot get it to work correctly.
Initially I could print from it but had no printer settings.
When the new driver was issued by Epson a few days ago I thought my problem was solved. Downloaded driver and attempted to install but ran into a peculiar problem. As you know the install starts, downloads several files and then gives you the option to quit or continue. Not knowing which files have been downloaded I selected continue. However, this scenario continues ad infinitum and the only way I can quit the program is to do a force quit. I mean like I can literally sit for any time period you want to name and the install continue as if it's in a loop.
I have since deleted all epson files contained in library and in sys.pref.
Second attempt to install resulted in what appeared to be a normal setup including printer settings but now the printer will not print. Message reads error:/library/printer/epson
I feel that there must be some epson files left behind from the first install attempt but I don't seem to find them.
I've contacted epson and the only reply I got from them was 'download driver and install'.
After that lengthy explanation I have two questions.
First one, when installing the downloaded file should I quit the setup when the first query to continue or quit occurs, if not when?
Second question, where else would you look to be sure all the epson files are deleted before attempting a second install.
    Really appreciate any help.

    Hello @ Averus89,
    Welcome to the HP forum.
I understand you have done quite a lot to resolve your M176n and its connection to the ePrint service.
I would like to help you with this issue.
If the printer is not printing the web services info sheet, or allowing you to add it to HP Connected, I
    would set a manual DNS.
I wont go into great detail about setting this up. From your post, I feel you know your way around the printer and your network. If I am mistaken, let me know. I will go into detail.
    The DNS to try is:
    Primary: 209.244.0.3
    Secondary: 209.244.0.4
Set the DNS then try printing the web services info page again.
Let me know if this helps.

  • HP Laserjet 4100 on network will not print

Since I’ve installed Snow Leopard, I have not been able to print with my HP Laserjet 4100.
My set-up: new 24” iMac, many hard drives and more. Two devices: HP Color Laserjet 5550 and HP Officejet J5750 are connected to the iMac through a USB Hub. Although initially scanning did not work with the J5750, I was able to make that work once additional drivers were downloaded from HP. Both work fine.
I also have an older HP Laserjet 4100 which has been my steady workhorse for years. It only has Ethernet and serial port outlets. It is connected to an AT&T 2-Wired Ethernet Hub/DSL Modem (model 2701HG-B) that is connected to the iMac.
I’ve contacted HP and Apple about this problem. None of the three people I worked with at Apple could help and the HP representative was unsure if they could help but that it would cost me $40 to find out. According to HP website, since Apple Talk no longer exists, we are required to input the IP for the device. For the 4100, the IP address is 10.0.1.100. I tried this two ways: in the “Add Printer” window under “IP,” inputted as the IPP, and inputted as the HP Jetdirect Socket (as per the HP instructions). When this is done, the printer shows up when you give a print command. However, it does not show up in the “Add Printer” window under “default” or anywhere else.
Status: If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable directly to the back of the iMac, the “Supply” level indicates the true level of toner in the 4100. However, it will not print. If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable to the Ethernet hub, the supply level does not show nor can I print.
    Any suggestions?

I am struggling with the same problem. I have two HP 4100dtn printers on ethernet. Each has a manually assigned IP address. I can set up the printer(s) just fine in the Print & Fax Preference and Snow Leopard finds the printer just fine when I enter the IP address and chooses the correct HP Driver.
When I try to print, my print job appears in the queue as expected, than an error appears that something about a "bad command". Sorry, I'm home right now and don't have direct access to the printer so I can't give you the precise language of the message, but the gist of the message is that the system tried to connect to the printer to send the print data but the printer does not know how to respond to the command that was sent.
It's as if the firmware in the 4100 just doesn't have something in it's lexicon that Snow Leopard needs. The HP web site is no help. One page I found says the printer is supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01664444&jumpid=regR1002USEN ) and another page I found says that it is not supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01879014&jumpid=regR1002USEN). The HP on line chat won't let me log in and hold a chat with HP unless I know the Serial Number of the printer, which I don't have here at home.
    More to follow tomorrow.

Well, another week has gone by without a solution.
    Again, here is the problem:
I have a 24" iMac connected to a USB hub and an AT&T 2-Wire DSL/ethernet hub. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and now the update 10.6.2, the two printers on the USB hub work fine but the HP Laserjet 4100dtn does not print. This old printer has only ethernet or serial ports. I've downloaded and installed the HP driver updates from Apple and HP to no avail. According to HP, I must add the 4100 manually using its IP. I've followed the instructions while adding a printer to select IP- HP Jetdirect - Socket. The address of the printer is 10.0.1.100. When I type this in, the window says that this is a valid and complete address. It searches and then says the "Print Using:" is a Generic PostScript Printer. The driver for this printer, I believe, should be "HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107" Regardless, when I click Add the window "Determining Installable Options" shows "Status: Connecting to printer..." It never establishes a connection.
The 2-Wire DSL/Ethernet Hub/Modem, has an IP of 192.1687.1.66, Submask 255.255.255.0 and Router (DNS) 192.168.1.254.
If I plug the ethernet cable directly from the printer to the iMac, the supply level shows correctly but will not print. If I plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the 2-Wire and then to the iMac, it neither shows supply level nor prints.
Any suggestion as to how to fix this problem? (I've been on the phone with 3 different Apple respresentatives and 1 HP representative with no success.)

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:

  • HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer Does Not Print Black Ink

I have run all the troubleshooting listed from HP and the "check" warrenty doesn't come up blank.  I would like to not have to purchase a new printer to fix this any help would be greatly appreciated:
    1) Rebooted Printer
    2) Installed new printer cartridge (2nd one) - really not happy about this as that represents almost $50 in HP ink
    3) Checked venting - Not the problem
    4) From Tools ran head cleaner - still only prints colors (or grey)
I've liked HP printers for a long time, but after reading the forums I'm really seeing an issue with the model I puchased.  I don't mind purchasing HP ink and my printer isn't a high volume use printer so I expect it to last beyond 1 year 1 day.
I have the SN and product number available if a tech needs.

Had Reader 9, now 10.  Received document, saved as .pdf. Attempted to print this .pdf, but when click Print, document needed to be saved again, but was only giving me format as All Files* to save in.  Still did not print.  Have checked all Printer settings -still won't print.  Conflict in 9 and 10? Do I need to somehow reinstall 9 - as that was working?

    Vielen Dank -
but why would the advanced tab change as I never had changed that feature in other .pdf s   .  Is it default with 10?
Usually the printer shows - Print to file, and allows me to change the format, whether as a .docx, .jpeg or .pdf, but that option wasn't available.
