Shared libraries, sync to blackberry

I have a macbook pro and itunes where the files are no longer found. I want to pull some shared files to create a playlist and sync to my mac but it won't work, I get a file not found error. How do I do this ?

Did you turn on Sharing in iTunes prefs or did you enable *Home Sharing* in iTunes menu Advanced -> Turn on Home Sharing?
Sharing simply allows you to listen to music on other computers.
*Home Sharing* allows you to copy songs from other iTunes libraries to your own computer.

  • Two user accounts one Itunes Music Folder, How do I keep the Libraries sync

Okay let's see if I can explain my dilemma properly. My girlfriend shares my computer with me, so I gave her a seperate account to keep her stuff in. However I keep all our music on an external hard drive in the iTunes music folder. The problem is everytime I upload new music or delete something on my account/ iTunes library, It doesn't update the iTunes library on her account. Therefore I have to sign in to her account to update her library with new music or delete tracks that have been removed from the Music folder. Kinda a minor thing until you upload 5 new CD's and remove like a 100 old tracks/podcasts, then it gets to be very annoying and time consuming. So is there anything I can do to sync our libraries to the music folder when changes are made? Hope I explained that well, and thanks for your help in advance!

As both libraries are the same you're wasting disk space, so have only one library - yours and enable sharing on it.
You need to be looged in and iTunes running, she will enable 'look for shared libraries' in her Preferences... and your library will show up.

  • Shared "libraries"/mltple computers wireless networked to shared hard drive

I really spent some time researching this question prior to posting. My goal is to have three computers (mine, wife's,kid's) all accessing a single hard drive on which all of our combined music is stored with iTunes on each computer seeing our whole library of music, then all of us can create playlists, sync to varous nano's, shuffles, etc. Hard drive is all set up, wireless access is set, all three computers can access various other shared files on the hard drive. All three computers have been "mapped" so that they look at this new Z drive, so I went through Edit/Pref/Advanced/General and changed each computer to look at this new Z drive versus their own C: drive/Music folder etc. Then I went through Advanced, Consolidate on one computer to put all of our music that used to be on one individual computer's hard drive and successfully moved it out to the new shared, wirelessly accessable Z drive.
Now, I want to be able to add new songs to that Z drive, ideally from any individual computer and have all other computers "see" those new songs that are now out on the Z drive. I have gone around the house and tested adding via CD's new songs from each computer to the new shared Z drive and that works. However, each of the individual iTunes libraries do not see the new songs.....is there some way that each computer's iTunes could update itself so that it recognizes that there are new songs out on the shared hard drive??? If so, I can't seem to figure out how to make it work.
Also, on Edit/Preferences/Sharing...I have selected and checked "Look for shared libraries" and also selected/checked "share my library on local network"....and selected/checked "share entire library"....and I have done this on each indvidual computer, but I am not sure if those are the right selections/checks to achieve my goals. Is this what I should do on each computer?? In the blank "Shared name:" I typed "iTunesShared" which is the name of the file that I created on the shared hard drive and I did this on each computer in each individual iTunes program. Is this what I should be doing??
Finally, on one of the computers (the computer that I have been currently using to add CD's to our shared hard drive) under Library, on the left hand column...there is a heading called "Shared" and under that heading it lists two subheadings - one called "Owners's music" and the other called "Susan's music" - and those seem to turn off and on if I have one of the other two computers logged on and its iTunes program launched. If I go to one of the other computers and shut down iTunes on it, one of those subheadings will disappear. Also, with iTunes launched on the two other computers - I see under the "Shared" heading the "iTunesShared" heading and if I click on it, iTunes is then looking at the Z drive with all of the our songs stored on it....but the other two computers can only see this file if the computer that I have been downloading songs from is launched....i.e., the only way all three computers can see the Z drive with our full song library on it is if just one of the other computers is up, running and has iTunes launched.
Again, my goal here is to have all three computers iTunes be looking at the Z drive so that they would have access to our full library of songs...so, any ideas how I can make that happen or what I have done wrong here?? I think I am closing to figuring this out but am now stuck. Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.
    thanks,

Seems like you have things set up right. You may be disappointed though.
Each account on each computer is separate as far as libraries go. Even if all are set to save to the same location, like yours, the different libraries do not see each other. The library files for each user are basically just shortcuts to where the tracks are, so even if 5 users add the file to their own library there will be media file.
What this means is that adding files with one, the others will not know it. There is no setting available to change this behavior. Each user must add the files to their own library using the 'add folder' or 'add file' options.
Is that everything? You had a big post.

  • Shared Libraries Not Working

This problem has just come up recently and for no apparent reason as far as I can tell.
I'm at college and a lot of people in the dorm, including myself, have our iTunes libraries set to share. This has worked fine for months now until a few days ago. For whatever reason I can no longer see shared libraries and mine isn't being shared.
Topics I've seen before talk about the iTunes store, and that works fine with me. I do have the proper boxes checked. It isn't being blocked by the firewall, and the problem occurs even with the firewall off.
I haven't done anything to my iTunes recently other than adding a few cd's and syncing my iPod. I haven't done anything major to my comp. at all either. Can't figure out why it isn't working recently.

Quite possible it could be a firewall issue maybe? I've had firewall software update itself and then start blocking things that had previously been allowed. Just a thought...

  • Shared libraries in Photos 1.0

My wife and I have traditionally shared a single library in iPhoto (stored on an external drive). Can we continue to do so in Photos? Are there any complications when it comes to shared libraries and iCloud Photo Library? (I could just plow ahead and try it out, but it'd be my head if I did anything to compromise our existing  library of family photos.) Tips from more adventurous upgraders most welcome.

You can certainly create a library on an external drive or have multiple libraries, though only one (system library) will sync with iCloud Photo library, though I assume that is per user - not sure how it might affect things if you are using differernt iCloud credentials.

  • Shared Libraries and personal security

Have there been any security issues with Shared Libraries?

Not sure if this will help. But here is my story. We have home network with my spouse's IMac and my HP Elite Windows 7 64 PC on the network. The IMac detected the ATV and sync'd with it. My Win 7 PC would not detect it.
Call/chats with HP, Microsoft, Apple and Costco Concierge all failed to solve this problem. HP and Apple wanted $70 to have their "experts" diagnose it.
After fiddling with this for weeks, my spouse said "don't you know only one PC can be connected at a time?!! I learned that Apple TV can only detect or sync with one PC at a time. When the IMac was disconnected to the Apple TV, my Windows 7 PC did detect the Apple TV when I Tunes was launched. Simple solution. Glad I did not pay HP or Apple TV $70-80 to diagnose this problem.
I told all four support lines that we had a IMac on the network and it did detect the Apple TV. But NONE of them seem to know that the ATV can connect to a local area network PC one at a time. Amazying. But now it is solved.

Hi! A few days ago, Inkscape started giving me this error whenever I try to launch it:
inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libpoppler.so.48: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I reinstalled both poppler and Inkscape, but it didn't change anything. Does anyone know why it happened and how to fix it, please?

Check if you have the correct package versions and if /usr/lib/libpoppler.so.49 is present on your system.
/usr/lib/libpoppler.so.49 is present and I do have inkscape 0.91-3. And the poppler package is in 0.30.0-1.

I did a few full upgrades since the problem appeared and I used "pacman -Rcsn poppler" to remove all of its dependencies (including Inkscape) at once (probably useless, but it's too late now) and installed everything again afterwards.

The home sharing is now off and still has all the songs one there. Even rebooted the wifi modem, supporting hard drives and all computer involved in this catastrophe!! :( all computer are all updated and updated to the new iTunes.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated and any more questions welcome. Thanks

Basically anything not purchased from iTunes that is on my iPhone 6 will not sync over to my MacBook. I have tried to just manually back it up but only the purchased music will sync over to iTunes.

  • Sort tags ignored on Shared libraries

Is this ever going to be fixed? Why have ONE inconsistant thing in the AppleTV-iTunes relationship?
I have a main iTunes library that has 25,000+ audio files, several hundred TV show episodes and almost 200 movies in it. I have content, TV shows, automatically added to this library on a regular basis so I can't be there to manually hit the Sync button for a Custom Sync, to disable the actual copying of data, for the Apple TV. I also don't want to do an automatic sync because with a library this large, and some content on a network drive, iTunes is constantly trying to re-sync some things.
All I want is for a "Shared" library on the AppleTV to respect the "Sort" fields in iTunes. This worked in previous versions of AppleTV OS, ie 2.X, but is broken in 3.X versions. PLEASE FIX THIS.

You don't need to be there for iTunes to sync new content, hitting the sync button won't disable the copying either.

There are two areas where the term automatic sync is applied, firstly as an alternative to custom syncing and secondly when new content is added which is included in one of your synced sets or options. The size of your library has no relevance to how much content is synced or how often this takes place. Only content that is new/changed and is included in your sync options are synced.

My shared libraries obey the sort field in iTunes, in what way don't yours.

OK...I have home sharing setup, can see all libraries (2 PCs and an ipad), can stream from any shared library. Tried changing sync setting to manual...but same result....cant drag music from shared library to the ipad.

  • ITunes does not show Shared libraries

I have a Mac, my husband has a PC. We both use iTunes. We have shared music just fine for years. A few months ago, my iTunes started to act oddly. The shared libraries vanished, and I cannot play to external (or multiple) speakers.
My husband can see my library, but when it is selected, it comes up blank, and then vanishes in a few minutes.
We both have our libraries set to share, we are on the same network and share files, etc, without issues. What can I do?

To anyone who is having problems with Home Sharing an iTunes Library from a Windows PC,
turn off syncing over Wifi for any devices (iPod, iPad, iPhone) that sync with that Library.
I beleive this is causing interference with "Home Sharing" functionality.
    FYI,
I also deleted iTunes Configuration files, but am not certain that is a necessary step

  • Unknown shared libraries

I'm in the process of uploading my CD collection to iTunes and syncing my iPod. On the music page I happened to notice shared libraries that I have no knowledge of, names totally unfamiliar to me. Some of them i am able to open, play music, etc. All I can think of is some WiFi glitch. Anyone have a similar experience? Thx. bartab

Well...I'm not sure what the range is. If you're in an apartment complex or dorm, it could be someone living there. If you live in a house, it could be your neighbor across the street.
Here's what Apple says about sharing. This specifically refers to libraries being on the same network. If you're believe you're on a closed network, someone may be sharing your Internet service...through an Airport connection, perhaps...
