Shared mailbox from field (exchange 2007)

Hi there,
I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but couldn't think of anywhere else.
My team at work has a normal exchange account and a shared mailbox they have access to.  If you log on to outlook, you see 2 information stores - one for your personal mailbox and one for the shared mailbox.
If I reply from my personal mailbox, the from field gets correctly populated with my name, but when I reply to an email from the shared mailbox the from field gets populated with the shared mailbox email address, which we don't have permission to use, so
emails bounce if we do not manually change the from field.
We developed a vba solution to automatically do this for us but I was wondering if this can be somehow switched on the exchange side of things/
Does anyone know if there is?
Thanks,
B.

Hi
You can not control this behaviour from Exchange. This is controlled by Outlook.
Outlook chooses the from address from what additional mailbox you are replying from (just as you see :-))
There are a lot of registry tweaks for Outlook, but I don't think there are one to control this.
I see 3 possible sollutions.
1.    The users can choose them self
2.    You give the users "Send As" permissions on the mailbox
3.    you use this tool

  • Need to send mail from Microsoft Exchange 2007 account(different from Gmail) on behalf of another Gmail ID. How to configure that ?

    I have a Gmail ID (e.g [email protected])
    I have a Exchange ID (e.g  [email protected])
    I need to configure exchange account (2007)  such that I can send a mail from my Exchange account but at the receiver end it looks like it was sent from  ([email protected]).
    Both the accounts are my accounts.
    I need this because I do not have access to my Gmail account from place where I access the internet and I need to send the mails from my Gmail account only.

    So you want to spoof your e-mail address.
    You can make your Exchange server send as any address you want.  Just create a different mailbox with that address as the primary (reply) address.  It has to be a different account.
    However, be aware that many systems to which you send such mail to will bounce it as suspected spam because they'll detect that your server is sending mail from Gmail but your server is not Gmail.

  • How to create new storage group and mailbox database on exchange 2007 CCR

    Hi, Our Environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 CCR.
    Now I want to create a new storage group with edb file and log files on the new drive.
    My plan is as below:
    Once we have new drive ready on both active node and passive node,
    1): Create new storage group with log files for this new storage group on other new drive from Active Node.
    2): Create new mailbox database under this newly created storage group with the DB file on the new drive from active node.
    My question is:
    1): Do I need to perform above steps from active node only? or Do I need to do it from both active node and passive node?
    2): How many storage groups can we create on one Exchange 2007 Enterprise server, we already have 25 SGs in place.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. We can just create new storage group on the active node. And it’ll be replicated to the passive node.
    We can use the following command in EMS to verify the new Storage Group is being replicated to the passive node:
    Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus "Second Storage Group" | Select SummaryCopyStatus,CCRTargetNode
    http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/08/how-to-create-new-storage-group-in-ccr.html
    2. For Exchange 2007 enterprise version, we can have up to 50 storage groups:

  • Unable to create shared mailboxes from a csv file

    Hi,
    I have a list of 130 shared mailboxes that I must create. So I created a CSV file like this:
    Name,Alias,OrganizationalUnit,Database,UserPrincipalName
    John Smith,jsmith,domain.com/accounts/shared,mailbox database A,[email protected]
    Mark Flone,mflone,domain.com/accounts/shared,mailbox database A,[email protected]
    ETC.....
    The list is ready and it is saved.
     import-csv C:\path | New-mailbox -Shared
    the Error is the following:
    "Cannot bind parameter 'Name' to the target. Exception setting "Name": "The property can't be empty."
    I went into my spreadsheet and Trimmed everything, then saved and still the same error result.
    Then I tried the following:
    import-csv C:\temp\sharedMailboxCreationTest.csv | ForEach-Object {New-Mailbox -shared  -Name $_.Name  -Alias $_.Alias  -OrganizationalUnit $_.OrganizationalUnit -UserPrincipalName $_.UPN -Database $_.Database}
    The Error:
    "Cannot bind argument to parameter 'UserPrincipalName' because it is an empty string."
    What am I missing here?
    Alexis

    You have UserPrincipalName column heading in the csv file so this should be your cmdlet.
    import-csv C:\temp\sharedMailboxCreationTest.csv | ForEach-Object {New-Mailbox -shared  -Name $_.Name  -Alias $_.Alias  -OrganizationalUnit $_.OrganizationalUnit -UserPrincipalName $_.UserPrincipalName -Database $_.Database}

  • What is the maximum size for mailbox per user (Exchange 2007)

    Hello,
    I'd like to know:
    What is the maximum size per mailbox, and is it not recommended to exceed 3 GB and about the items how many is the maximum per folder (inbox, .. )
    I've Exchange 2007 SP2, Outlook 2007 and 2010.
    Thank you.

    Hi
    There is no size limit on mailboxes up to the maximum size of your database.  I normally recommend 2GB mailbox limits if you have some form of archiving in place.  If you have no archiving in place then the limit should be set at the amount of
    data people need to keep - it is not a good idea for people to store mail in PST files because there is a limit on their mailbox.
    See this article for item count recommendations:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905803
    Also you need to upgrade your Exchange 2007 server to SP3 ... SP2 has been out of support for nearly 3 years already:

    Never use a Format- cmdlet before sending data to Export-Csv
    Use Select-Object instead.
    PowerShell V1:
    Get-MailboxStatistics -Database "Mailbox Database" |Select-Object DisplayName, LastLoggedOnUserAccount, ItemCount, @{expression={$_.totalitemsize.value.ToMB()};label=”Size(MB)”}, LastLogonTime, LastLogoffTime | Export-Csv MailboxSize.csv -NoTypeInformation

  • Shared Mailbox: Share Contacts Exchange 2013

    I'm using Exchange 2013 and I've got several shared mailboxes setup. I've added contacts to those mailboxes. We are using Outlook 2013 and we can access the shared mailboxes just fine, but I don't know how to make the contacts show up in the Global Address
    List
    This is the windows that opens when adding contacts to an email. The only way i can see the contacts is by going over to the People tab.
    I've tried right-clicking the share contacts but it's grayed out for all my shared mailboxes.
    What am i doing wrong? Thanks for any help!

    Same issue here.
    It is possible to create contacts under a shared mailbox but the user cannot choose any addres because it is not shown as an address book
    I had

    A own created list
    Global Address List
    All Address list
    All contacts
    All Groups
    All Rooms
    All Users
    Public Folders
    For a personal contactlist there is a tab 'Outlook Address Book' where i can choose "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". This tab is not available for an shared mailbox contactlist.
    It seems not possible at all, any information about this can not be found (at least not by me)

  • Autodiscovery from external Exchange 2007 SP1

    Dear all,
    We have 1 Exchange 2007 and 1 CAS server running and a Terminal Server. All Outlook 2007 clients are connecting using HTTPS/RPC internally and external. Now our problem is that when we try to configure an outlook client 2007 from the outside, that the "Online Search for your server settings" fails. We constantly get the credentials (u/p) prompt which is provided the correct credentials but are not accepted.
    From inside (for example on the Terminal Server) everything works fine (incl. OAB, OOF, etc). So this should be something with login to autodiscover.
    Conclusion:
    When we try to connect to: https://externaladdress.domain.net/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml (from the CAS server) we can logon with every valid credential. Now when we try to connect to the above mentioned address from ANY other internal server, or external address, we are not able to login and are constantly prompted with the UserName and Password window.
    Does anybody have a clue what's wrong here?

    David.

    Thanks for your response.
    We do not use a firewall to be honest (at this moment). I forgot to mention that we also use a url autodiscover.domain.net as a redirect to webmail.domain.net (our CAS server). Redirect seems to work fine, as I tried to connect to: autodiscover.domain.net/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml and I'm prompted with username and password window (which also does not authenticate). • Shared mailbox not working on 2007

    Hello,
    i'm having a problem generating a shared mailbox and making it work, here's the BG info:
    Created a universal security group called "info access" with two users which need MB access
    we have domain.local internal and domain.com external
    i created the mailbox with the cmdlets:
    New-Mailbox -Name:'Info customer' -OrganizationalUnit:'domain.local/main' -Database:'Mailbox Database' -UserPrincipalName:'[email protected]' -Shared
    Add-MailboxPermission info -User:'info access' -AccessRights:FullAccess
    Add-ADPermission info -User:'info access' -ExtendedRights:Send-As -AccessRights:ReadProperty, WriteProperty -Properties:'Personal Information'
    Set-Mailbox -Identity info -GrantSendOnBehalfTo:'info access'
    Everything completed ok, i see the hsared mailbox in the EMC, i see it can receive mails, but when i go to add the mailbox to one of those users outlook it gives error "outlook cannot open mailbox, the user cannot access the location", OWa also
    fails but with a hard crash message with mapiexceptionlogonfailed
    what is going on?, i double checked on the EMC and i see the permissions granted to the group, do i need to apply permissions to each user?

    Hi Eliminateur,
    Thank you for your question.
    The name of shared mailbox is “info customer”, so we could run the following command to grant full access to “info customer” :
    Add-MailboxPermission –Identity 'Info customer' -User:'info access' -AccessRights:FullAccess
    Add-ADPermission –Identity 'Info customer' -User:'info access' -ExtendedRights:Send-As -AccessRights:ReadProperty, WriteProperty -Properties:'Personal Information'
    Set-Mailbox –Identity 'Info customer' -GrantSendOnBehalfTo:'info access'
    Then we could check if we could open shared mailbox which name is “Info customer”.
    If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

  • Export mailboxes to PST (Exchange 2007)

    Hi All,
    Is there an 'export-mailbox' cmdlet I can use to export each of the mailboxes in our mailbox database using the following file name format, so that the full smtp address is used as the filename of each the PST file exported:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    etc, etc
    We are currently migrating to a cloud email provider and they have strict rules on processing PST files. The exchange database is only 65GB in size, so not that big in the grand scheme of things.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Untamed, you sure can.  Here's the original code I sent:
    Get-Mailbox -Database <databasename> | Sort name | % {
        $MbxSmtp = $_.PrimarySmtpAddress.ToString()
        Export-Mailbox $MbxSmtp -PstFolderPath "\\Servername\Share\$MbxSmtp"
    Note the first line, which ties the code to a single database.  You can change that line to focus on any group of mailboxes, even to a single mailbox.  Here's code for a single mailbox:
    Get-Mailbox <mailbox alias> | Sort name | % {
        $MbxSmtp = $_.PrimarySmtpAddress.ToString()
        Export-Mailbox $MbxSmtp -PstFolderPath "\\Servername\Share\$MbxSmtp"
    Here's code for an OU:
    Get-Mailbox -OrganizationalUnit <OU DN, as in "ADDomain.company.com/OURoot/SubOUName"> | Sort name | % {
        $MbxSmtp = $_.PrimarySmtpAddress.ToString()
        Export-Mailbox $MbxSmtp -PstFolderPath "\\Servername\Share\$MbxSmtp"

  • Move Mailbox from Exchange 2007 to 2013 creates additional Contacts and Junk E-mail folders in Outlook Clients

    I have moved a handful of mailboxes from my Exchange 2007 server to my new Exchange 2013 server.  When the users logon to Outlook, usually Outlook 2007 Pro, they have a new default Contacts folder and Junk Email folder that are empty.  I
    have to copy all the user's contacts into the new default folder and delete the old one.  Not sure why this is happening.  Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Are you sure your Outlook 2007 is compatible with Exchange 2013?

  • Shared Calendar Send As Behavior & Legacy Shared Mailboxes

    Ok Exchange Gurus, here's the scenario:
    Shared Mailbox 1 - Legacy Exchange 2007 shared mailbox with the SendAsItemsCopiedTo attribute set to SenderAndFrom, then migrated to full Exchange 2013 environment, with no Exchange 2007 servers left.
    Shared Mailbox 2 - Exchange 2013 created shared mailbox.
    Shared mailbox 1 still exhibits the same behavior when a user sends as that mailbox, the sent item is put in both the Shared Mailbox 1 sent items folder, as well as the user's sent items folder.
    Shared Mailbox 2, the sent item is only placed in the user's sent items folder, and not the Shared Mailbox 2 sent items folder.
    I know the Set-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration command has been removed from Exchange 2013, so obviously, Powershell isn't the answer to modify shared mailbox 2 to act the same as mailbox 1.
    My question then is, if Shared Mailbox 1 was migrated to Exchange 2013, that attribute still HAS to be somewhere for Exchange 2013 to still deliver the sent item to both the user's mailbox and the shared mailbox.  I've checked every attribute on Shared
    Mailbox 1 in Powershell, AD, ADSIEdit...and cannot find anything.  Again, Exchange 2013 still has to read this attribute SOMEWHERE to know that it has to deliver the message to both sent items folders.
    A big virutal beer will be sent to whomever figures this one out!!!
    Thanks!
    Statik

    Hi Statik,
    I find the solution from a similar thread. Information as below:
    I found out that i have to use the registry for this:
    DelegateSentItemsStyle, type REG_DWORD and set it to 1 (default is 0 or not present). HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\Outlook\Preferences
    More details to see:
    Where is Set-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration / Get-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration?

    Hope it is helpful.

  • [Urgent]Accidently disabled shared mailbox (multiple users)

    I am a beginner and accidently run "Remove-Mailbox..." instead of "Set-Mailbox..." while modifying user's access to a shared mailbox. Now I want to know, since multiple users had access to the shared mailbox, do we need to provide access
    to every user on the shared mailbox again, after reconnecting the shared mailbox to the account ?
    I am working on exchange server 2010.
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi ,
    I hope below mentioned points will help you to resolve this issue.
    Please do this first in your test environment before get in to production.
    On my side i would assume like you are having windows server 2008 R2 active directory environment with recycle bin enabled otherwise you have to do authoritative restore in active directory to get back the deleted user account in active directory .
    Step 1:
    First you need to restore the active directory account with the help of recycle bin feature in active directory .
    As per my knowledge ,recycle bin feature will help us to retain the same permissions on other resources and group membership when the deleted account is been recovered .
    Note :From windows server 2008 R2 on wards recycle bin feature is available ,once you enable that you cannot able to disable the feature so please think twice before doing any changes on recycle bin .Same time you need ensure the required functional levels
    are present in active directory for enabling the recycle bin.
    Reference Article for Recycle Bin in Active directory :
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/08/27/the-ad-recycle-bin-understanding-implementing-best-practices-and-troubleshooting.aspx
    Step 2: Then you need to reconnect the shared mailbox from the exchange disconnector container to the restored account in active directory.
    Note : Suddenly deleted mailbox will not show on the exchange disconnected container So we need to use the below commands to update the exchange databases .
    Commands :
    Get-MailboxStatistics -Database MDB02 | ForEach { Update-StoreMailboxState -Database $_.Database -Identity $_.MailboxGuid -Confirm:$false }
    Get-MailboxStatistics -Database MDB02 | Where { $_.DisconnectReason -ne $null } | ForEach { Update-StoreMailboxState -Database $_.Database -Identity $_.MailboxGuid -Confirm:$false }
    Please reply me if you have any queries .
