Shared User folder "Ticket"

I have just discovered a folder: {hd}/Users/Shared/Ticket that I can't identify.
It was created on September 24, 2010, and has not been modified since.
It appears to be empty. There is a user group named "wheel" which has read/write privileges.
The only other folder in Users/Shared is "Sonos" (for a whole-house music system, though i'm not sure why it needs to be there), which also has "wheel" as a user group (read/write). I am the only user of this machine (no other user accounts).
Can anyone identify this "Ticket" folder?
Is "wheel" a legitimate user group on my Mac?

Hi
did you install any software on that day? - it's often used to store an activation or license key.
Is "wheel" a legitimate user group on my Mac?
Yes, no problem with that.

  • How to: Exculde the library folder located in the shared user folder.

Ive been told this is a hard concept to grasp. I am sharing my home folder, I want to exclude the "Library" folder from being shared. How do I do this? -Thanks you

In theory, you should be able to select the file in Finder, then use Finder -> File -> Get Info.  Then under the "Sharing & Permissions" section, change "everyone" to "No Access".
This would prevent anyone except yourself from accessing your HOME -> Library folder tree.  Of course if you mount your home volume using your username and password, then you will be able to access Library.

  • Sharing music folder between user accounts?

I would like to have my music library available for my wife on a different user account on my iMac under Lion.
The music library is on an external drive on my LAN
When I try to select it as the source of music in my wife's account, there are no errors, but nothing happens, the music is not added to her iTunes, it just stays in the welcome screen, where to find music, etc.
I read a tutorial on moving the library to a shared folder, but I am hoping I do not have to do that. The drive is available to her library, just that nothing happens after I select it.
I imagine I am not seeing something obvious?
    THansk,

check for file permissions witin your shared iTunes folder and make sure your wife's account have both read AND write privileges and that the privileges are applied not only to the folder but all the files and sub directories within that folder.

  • Concern with "File Sharing: On" -- my root user folder (and subfolders) and Macintosh HD is visible

    Hi all,
When I set up a File Sharing folder in OSX called "Share", I connected from my PC to my Macbook Pro and not only did I see the "Share" folder but I also could see and have total access to my root user folder (all its subfolders too) and my Macintosh HD (hard disk).  Did I miss something?  All I did was check mark "File Sharing" in the Sharing option of System Preferences.  Then I specifically shared only the "Share" folder that I created on the OSX desktop.
How do I turn of sharing for the root user folder and my Macintosh HD folder?
    Many thanks in advance!

Yes, I was logging in from my PC laptop to Mac as the Admin.  However, since there is a User called "Everyone" and I, for testing purposes only, turned Read/Write on for "Everyone", I figured I did not have to set up another user (such as "Guest").  I was wrong.  Once I created a new user called "Guest" and specifically checked the Guest account in the SMB option, it worked in the restricted mode I was hoping for.  Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. The organizer is just a database, so your photos are wherever you put them intially. Did you import from iphoto? In that case, organizer does make duplicates (to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which would be a Bad Thing to do). If you didn't specify a location, the copies that PSE uses will be inside subfolders in the Adobe folder in your Pictures folder.

  • Users folder sharing between 2 Tigers

    Hello to everybody!
I've searched within the forum and googled around but I cannot find an answer to my question.
I moved my Users folder to a different partition, and I cloned my Tiger installation to another partition.
So, my situation is like that:
3 partitions, with 2 of them with tiger 10.4.6 and a 3rd with the Users and home folder moved. Now, both systems are sharing the same home folder, but I'd like to have a different home folder for the cloned system. But I don't know how to proceed: in the 3rd partition I have the Users folder, and I don't know if I can share this folder between two different istances of Tiger.
I don't know if proceeding in this way can create some troubles to the system or if there is a better way to follow.
I hope this is the right forum to post this question, and many thanks for any help.

Or your suggestion is to have the home
folders each one in the same partition with the
system?Yes, that is my suggestion but
if the "shared" Home is working and it's easy for you
    stay with it.
Perhaps someone will come along with more experience
    in a set-up like this.
Hi, finally I've found a solution that works for me!
Actually, thanks to an expert, friend of mine (Thanks Santtu!), I've adapted the suggestion on the Mike Bomich Tips page to my situation. http://www.bombich.com/mactips/homedir.html
On the data partition, I have now a folder called "Users" that contains the home folder for the system1. On the same level I have now a folder "foo" that contains the "Users" folder (and the home folder) for system 2. In that way both systems have now a different and separated Users folder, and still I can have my data separated from the system.
The commands in Bombich article are:
    sudo ditto -rsrcFork /Users /Volumes/OtherPartition/Users
    sudo niutil -createprop / /users/username home \
    /Volumes/OtherPartition/Users/username
    sudo ln -s /Volumes/OtherPartition/Users /Users
My solution (very simple!) is just change the path to the Users folder.
    sudo ditto -rsrcFork /Users /Volumes/OtherPartition/foo/Users
    sudo niutil -createprop / /users/username home \
    /Volumes/OtherPartition/Users/foo/username
    sudo ln -s /Volumes/OtherPartition/foo/Users /Users
Of course, I didn't remove the original Users folder, because I still need it for the other system.
Thank you very much for your help!

  • OS 10.4 clients cannot access Shared Mac folder on W2k Server - URGENT

We have a network of about 25 computers, 10 or so of them are Mac OS 10.4, the rest are Win XP Pro PCs. We have a server dedicated to file sharing. We basically have one main shared folder called "FILES". This is shared for PCs and Macs. Recently after a restart of the server (for regular maintenance), the Macs could not see the shared Mac volume (FILES), PCs could access the share without a problem. After a few minutes (15 or so) the Macs could all of a sudden see the share and
    everything was fine.
However, we just restarted the server again and we're having the same issue again. The difference is, this time, after waiting for a few hours, the Macs still cannot see the Mac Share. The macs connect to the server via TCP/IP, the users use their usernames and passwords and can connect to the server, however, the only volume they see is the Micrsoft UAM volume.
When we created a different folder and shared it (through MMC), the Macs could see and access that one.
We get an Event ID 12061 in the System Event Log as the user tries to connect to the share. I found a Microsoft KB article, but no solution to the problem was given. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q136300/
Here are some things I have tried to remedy the issue, please keep in mind we cannot change the name of the share (FILES) becuase of the thousands of file mappings in quark, etc.:
    Again Restarted Server
Stopped Sharing the folder, then reshared it
    Stopped sharing the folder
Uninstalled / Reinstalled Appletalk Protocol from network adapter
Uninstalled / Reinstalled File Services for Macintosh [Restarted]
Uninstalled / Reinstalled Appletalk Protocol from network adapter again [Restarted]
    Reshared the folder
Created a new mac share called TEST (Macs could see and access)
Moved data from Files to TEST, now Macs could not see TEST
    Moved data back to FILES
Created a folder called FILES2, moved data from FILES to FILES2
Stopped sharing FILES (PC and Mac), renamed FILES to FILES1
Renamed FILES2 to FILES (Macs could not see volume)
It seems as though the problem is with an individual file or two, which sort of corresponds the what Microsoft has written regarding the error.
Has anyone had any experience with this issue? Any insight or solution to this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

It's very important to be as specific as possible when discussion network service access. In your question, it sounds like you want the macs to attach to FILES using SMB/CIFS, but you also call it a Mac share, so it's not obvious if you mean an AFP share or just a share for Macs to use.
You should know that the Macs can connect to either AFP or SMB volumes, and they can browse for SMB over TCP/IP and AFP over both TCP/IP and Appletalk (Appletalk must be turned on and browsing active in Directory Access).
Connecting via SMB to a volume hosted on Windows2K or higher server will fail with the default settings, which require secure connections not supported by Mac OS X (because Samba doesn't support it). To overcome that problem, see this article:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030922153448490&query=-5000
(scroll down to one of the top-level replies, which explains in detail how to deactivate secure connections)
You might also be able to improve reliability by editing the SMB settings in Directory Access and setting a WINS server, but it depends on your network.

  • Missing Home Folder in Users Folder

I have a very strange situation where my Home folder (short name "Peter") does not appear in my "Users" Folder. It appears on the Finder sidebar and if i do a search it is found by the finder in the "Users" folder. I can access it from either of these two methods but I can not go to the "Users" folder and find it (I only have one other folder in the "Users" folder and that is the folder "Shared")
I have repaired permissions several times and did a disk verify with disk utilities and nothing was found as a problem. I did not change the name of this user at any time and it shows up as a user in the Accounts preferences. I can create a new user and it shows up in the "Users" folder and is removed once I delete the new user.
This is very wierd. Any help!

It is possible that somehow or other the "invisible" bit has got set on your Home folder.
Take a look at Francine's article on invisible volumes/folders and see if that helps.

  • Making and sharing user accounts

Okay-I have spent five hours trying to find a solution in Manuals, Support and similar questions but didn't find anything similar. Maybe I was searching in the wrong places but now I need direct help.
    This is my question :
I need to duplicate my admin account to a new user account( admin) that will let me access the entire volume and all the data within.
    I have tried -
    1. I have turned on File sharing from System Preferences, shared the new user account (Also everyone), added files/folders to share the entire original user folder...gave all users Read and Write permission...just about everything...
    2. I have run Disk Utility and repaired permissions ( the report said some permissions can't be repaired)
    3. I have done everything the manuals here have asked me to do...
    4. Went to each folder->Get Info->checked Shared Folder. Even after that folders in the new account it says- I have no access( remember I am an admin the new account too)
    Could anyone help me please?

Hello James, Sorry about the late reply, I was otherwise occupied. Here is what I did >
    1. Make another user account, whom you want to give privileges.
    2. Open Finder (after logging in to your own username) and in the left-hand panel, below the DEVICES section, select your hard-disk. Choose your username under "users". Right-click or use the menu bar to choose the option "Get Info".
    3. In the "Get Info" box, scroll down and check the box beside "Shared Folder" but this is not enough!
    4. Scroll further down to the area "Sharing and Permissions" and click on the "lock" image on the right corner below the list and supply your admin password to unlock it.
    5. Now use the " + " symbol on the left corner below the list to add the users you want. Whether you want to give Read/Write/Both privileges can be chosen by the up-down arrow beside each user's name in the list.
    6. DO NOT forget to click on the "wheel" image in the center below the list to check "Apply to enclosed items" which will include all the sub-folders, etc . Otherwise the other user gets access that is limited to the root shared folder only!
    7. Now log in to the other user's account and verify in Finder if you can access your (admin user) files from this user account. I think this should work.
    8. If you do not want to share your entire user account, you can perform the above steps to specific folders or even just files.
    9. Its slightly more complicated if you want to share music or photos as you will have to "Add to Library" all the respective music/photo folders that can now be accessed from the new user's account too.
I hope I did not confuse you further, do let me know if anything is not clear
    -cheers-

  • Save a pdf form and stored it in a Shared Network Folder

    Hey Guys,
Is there a way using ASPX and Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 to create a form and when the user clicks on the submit button to save a copy of the form and send it over to a Shared Network Folder?
I know adobe accepts JavaScript and FormCalc scripts only but if someone has done something similar to the scenario I explained I'll be deeply appreciate it if you can share some steps or at least show me the light so I can move a little bit further.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Just providing some information in addition to George's reply.
The PDF created by FormsCentral, assuming you are collecting responses online, is configured to enable extended features in Adobe Reader to allow respondents to save the form. To edit the PDF in Adobe Acrobat you must use the File > Save a Copy... menuitem to create a copy of the document that is not Reader-extended.
When you have finished editing the document you should remember to re-configure the PDF for fill-in and save within Adobe Reader.
    Regards,
    Brian

  • Moving music files out of Shared User file

Our iTunes has been set up so that all the music files are stored under the Shared User.
We now only have one user on that computer.
I want to move the iTunes over to a new computer but am having problems getting the music over since its not saved under iTunes.
How do I move all the music OUT of the Shared user file back to where it should be under iTunes?
We don't need the Shared User file at all anymore.
Thanks so much for any help,
    L

    Thanks, I have read that.
My problem is not moving the music to the new computer but getting the music from the Shared User file back to where it normally is under iTunes.
If I follow the procedure you suggested I only move the playlists, albums etc - none of the actual music.
I guess what I want to do is get rid of the Shared User file - all that is there when you click on Shared is a 13G list of albums.
SO how do I move those music files back under the iTunes folder?
    Thanks!

  • How to make a Shared mailbox folder appear on everyones mailbox automatically

Hello, I need to find a way for a Shared mailbox
folder to appear in everyone’s mailbox automatically – preferably in their favorites. We currently have a Public Folder where everyone in the company can drag or email any suspicious, fishing, etc.
emails. Unfortunately that is not good enough for our company's upper management. They
wants me to find a way to add a folder on everyone’s mailbox so they can easily find it under their favorites and drag any questionable messages to it.
I created a Shared mailbox for this purpose and a folder and I gave everyone access to it. Now
I’m not sure how to make this folder appear automatically in everyone’s mailbox favorites. If there is a way to accomplish this I would appreciate any suggestions.  I wonder if there is a
powershellcmdlet that can help me do this. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. For now we are running on a mix environment Exchange 2010/2013, but pretty soon it will be 2013 only. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I wouldn't recommend this method, trust me this might become mess if doesn't go to right direction. People might use this shared mailbox for their
own use. Best practice is to create a shared mailbox with some sensible name like [email protected] or
something like that and then share it on the announcement board or send an announcement mail to all users and ask them to forward their spam, suspicious, fishing mails to this address.

  • Best way to move Users folder off the boot drive

I read a couple of old threads regarding this topic, but I have some lingering questions...
I'm awaiting my Mac Pro. I ordered it with one drive. I plan on adding two drives in a RAID 0 array for data (which will be backed up regularly, of course) as soon as I get the Mac.
This is my first Mac, so I've got some questions (long time PC user as well as AIX & Linux user):
    1. Is it better to move the entire /Users folder or just selected /Users/<user_name> folders? I'm thinking it's safer to just move selected /Users/<user_name> folders (e.g. my "everyday" accoun'ts home directory, other family members' home folders, and the /Users/Shared folder). That way, in the event that I have a problem with my data drive (a RAID 0 array), I can login as an admin whose home folder is still in the boot drive and I won't have any problems logging in as that user when doing maintenance.
    2. Is it safe to move (and delete from the boot drive) the /Users/<user_name>/Library folder? Note that I plan on moving the home folders on a brand new Mac, but will things get messed up if I delete /Users/<user_name> folders from the boot drive once I've moved them to the RAID array?
    3. Are there any ill-behaved programs that expect Users to be in the boot drive, so I have to create a /Users/<user_name> soft link that points to the actual folder in the RAID array?
    4. I believe I found the steps suggested in Pogue's Mac OS X Missing Manual book (although it's in the context of moving the folder to an external drive). Basically, it entails running:
    a. sudo ditto -rsrc "/Users/<user_name>" "/Volumes/<thenewhome>"
    b. Then, in Accounts pane of System Preferences under Advanced Options, enter the new Home folder.
    c. Reboot and delete the original /Users/<user_name>
Does this sound right? Seems really simple (much easier than in the Windows world).
    Thanks.

    Just wanted to clarify:
    1. Mike Bombich's method entails moving the entire /Users folder to another drive so everyone's home is moved?
    2. David Pogue's method (as described in the Missing Manual) only entails moving individual, selected home folders to another drive (and no soft links needed)?
    3. It sounds like Pogue's method is preferable anyway (for the paranoid at least), so if the 2nd drive dies or needs maintenance, I can still login as a user whose home folder is in the boot drive?
    4. So, if I use Pogue's method, all that is needed are the steps listed in my original post above, and nothing else?
    Thanks.

  • Sharing users between Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard -- will this break preferences?

I have now ML and SL in dual boot and want to share users (on an external drive), and try out the new XCode.  I wonder, however, if I should rather use different users, so XC on SL won't have to deal with "corrupted" preferences that new XC might write to my users folder.  Also I thought it would be a good idea to switch off Spotlight and TimeMachine in ML for external harddrives, so they will still be readable from SL.  Anyone has some tips on how to use SL and ML with shared external drives?

You can upgrade the iMac for no extra charge - sign into the App Store there, download and install 10.8.
I recommend that you make a backup (Time Machine is probably the easiest method) before you install, and make sure that you are not using any applications that are incomptible with 10.8 (eg Office 2004) - other than that, it should go smoothly.
