Making and sharing user accounts

Okay-I have spent five hours trying to find a solution in Manuals, Support and similar questions but didn't find anything similar. Maybe I was searching in the wrong places but now I need direct help.
This is my question :
I need to duplicate my admin account to a new user account( admin) that will let me access the entire volume and all the data within.
I have tried -
1. I have turned on File sharing from System Preferences, shared the new user account (Also everyone), added files/folders to share the entire original user folder...gave all users Read and Write permission...just about everything...
2. I have run Disk Utility and repaired permissions ( the report said some permissions can't be repaired)
3. I have done everything the manuals here have asked me to do...
4. Went to each folder->Get Info->checked Shared Folder. Even after that folders in the new account it says- I have no access( remember I am an admin the new account too)
Could anyone help me please?

Hello James, Sorry about the late reply, I was otherwise occupied. Here is what I did >
1. Make another user account, whom you want to give privileges.
2. Open Finder (after logging in to your own username) and in the left-hand panel, below the DEVICES section, select your hard-disk. Choose your username under "users". Right-click or use the menu bar to choose the option "Get Info".
3. In the "Get Info" box, scroll down and check the box beside "Shared Folder" but this is not enough!
4. Scroll further down to the area "Sharing and Permissions" and click on the "lock" image on the right corner below the list and supply your admin password to unlock it.
5. Now use the " + " symbol on the left corner below the list to add the users you want. Whether you want to give Read/Write/Both privileges can be chosen by the up-down arrow beside each user's name in the list.
6. DO NOT forget to click on the "wheel" image in the center below the list to check "Apply to enclosed items" which will include all the sub-folders, etc . Otherwise the other user gets access that is limited to the root shared folder only!
7. Now log in to the other user's account and verify in Finder if you can access your (admin user) files from this user account. I think this should work.
8. If you do not want to share your entire user account, you can perform the above steps to specific folders or even just files.
9. Its slightly more complicated if you want to share music or photos as you will have to "Add to Library" all the respective music/photo folders that can now be accessed from the new user's account too.
I hope I did not confuse you further, do let me know if anything is not clear
-cheers-

  • Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account ??

First i would like to know what an Oracle Database schema exactly is ?

Later the exact "Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account".
I googled about it but i'm unable to find out it's The difference,
Please try to explain in a simple manner........

Greate example. but i would like add one more point..
a user is a schema and schema is a user. but when this applies to the user that he become a schema, only if he has got some objects. so we can say while creating the user which dosent contain any objects called simple user account but afterwords when he has got an objects then we can say its a schema as the above user has shown you through the exampleIt is just word-play. There is nothing in like a 'status' indicator to say "USER_A is just a user but USER_B has become a schema". Many people use the terms "user" and "schema" interchangeably, and some very good DBAs will insist this is correct. I don't disagree with them even though I usually try to make the distinction.
In a typical application, all of the objects (tables, procedures, etc) that implement the app will be owned by a "application schema owner" - a user which exists for the sole purpose of owning the schema. Said user will have no privileges at all .. especially not CREATE SESSION. Except for possible maintenance activity no one ever actually connects as this user. User accounts are then given to actual humans who connect with their own accounts. The accounts have the necessary system and object privileges granted to them - via a role. One could also create a special account (let's call it APP_ADMIN) that is used for maintenance and batch operations within the application.

  • Difference between ACS Administrator account and ACS user account?

Does an ACS administrator by default have full rights to every device it manages?
I thought ACS administator accounts and user accounts were different.
I have an acs admin account called admin_1. then i created another user account called admin_1 (for switch/router access)
when i set the password for admin_1(user accounts), when i tried to login into the switch it wouldn't take. It would only take the password set for the ACS admin account.
    Is this by design?

My understanding was that this is not the case, Ive just tested my installation again to make double sure and the user accounts and the admin accounts are clearly seperated
The RADIUS server does not make use of the Admin user database.

I created a custom security extension following the steps listed in the Readme_Security Extension Sample. It works fine if I login as the user that is specified AdminConfiguration section of the rsreportserver.config file but if I
log in as another user, I get this error: User '' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.  I've added the user to both System Administrator

Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi MetronM,
The issue is due to that user have no permission to access the report server. In report manager, Reporting Services includes predefined roles that we can assign to users and groups to provide immediate access to a report server. Each role defines a collection
    of related tasks.
You can refer to the following steps to assign corresponding role to the user.
    Open report manager.
    Click “Folder Setting” button.
    Click “New Role Assignment” icon.
Type the user name and select the corresponding role.
There is an article about Granting Permissions on a Native Mode Report Server, you can refer to it.

  • Migration Assistant (PC to Mac) and Shared iTunes Account

New Mac user here (other than iPhone), so be gentle.
So a couple of issues I need input on/help with, I'll try to keep it as short as possible. The short version is this...my wife and I both have iPhones which we've managed using a single iTunes account but separate libraries on our PC. With the addition of her MacBook Pro, looking for the best way to move forward that will allow her to manage her iPhone from her MacBook while I continue to manage mine with my PC without either of us losing access to currently shared purchases.
Now for the long version...When my wife and I first got iPhones 2 years ago, we kept a single shared iTunes account for ease of sharing music/apps...but have kept separate libraries. It seems to be increasingly difficult with new iOS updates and now an additional device (her new MacBook Pro) to maintain the libraries. For instance, Apps that one of us downloads that the other does not want automatically show up in the other's library or on their device. We have also had some some confusion with having multiple phone numbers linked to the one account. But I can't help think that we're too far down this path to go to separate accounts. If she got her own account would that not mean her losing access to any paid music/apps that we currently share? Then of course there's the issue of sharing future purchases. I'm clueless as how to handle this.
The other issue is migrating iTunes music/apps over to her new MacBook Pro from our PC. I went ahead and did this last night...but what I didn't realize is because the two computers had different usernames...her MacBook created a new username for the files so the only way to access the migrated music is for her to login as a different user. Is there anyway to easily fix this? I'm also concerned because of the shared iTunes account and multiple libraries, that even when I get the migration sorted out there will be issues with where her new Mac is looking for files. On our PC, the directory structure has become a bit convoluted...with the shared music/Apps spread out in multiple folders...
\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (contains my library and all purchases)
\My Documents\My Music\Her iPhone\ (contains her library and all purchases)
Not to mention the fact that when I migrated over, I migrated over everything...including all the music/apps that are not in her library.
Keep in mind I'm moderately PC literate...but completely Mac illiterate. Any and all help/input appreciated...thanks!

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, locate the migrated folder, drag it to the desktop, and provide your administrator password.

  • How to use iPhoto with 1 photo library and 2 user accounts on 1 iMac ?

    Title says it all.
I don't want to have a double picture library, it takes enough space from my harddisk already.
My wife and I share the same camera too. We want to see the same pictures when using iPhoto.
Possible solution: Do I have to make a softlink from 1 user account to the photo lib that belongs to the other account ? [in Terminal:  ln /Users/.... etc.)
    (Yes, I'm an ex-Linux user)
    Thnx
    Fred4711

If you want to have the same data, do you need separate accounts? A surprising number of people think that must have separate ccounts and they really don't need to.
    Anyway:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • PC Suite and multiple user accounts

I've been tearing my hair over PC Suite with my Nokia 6670, and after considerable experimentation and study of the forum here there only seems to be one possible conclusion:It never occurred to the programmers of PC Suite that anyone might want to run the program on more than one user account. It never occurred to them that anyone might want to install the program in one account and use it in another. And they most certainly never even dreamed of anyone trying to use it under a limited Windows account.
All this is very strange and makes one think that maybe the PC Suite programmers have been locked up in a kind of Big Brother container since around 1986, out of contact with anything that has been going on in the real world ever since then. Anyone who uses a Windows laptop with Internet connectivity on the road is asking for trouble if they work under anything except a limited account. And a program like Nokia PC Suite is predestined for use on laptops, so if it doesn't work on limited accounts it is really pretty useless.
Background: PC Suite works just fine when installed and used on my laptop's primary admin account. The troubles start when I switch to a different account: If I start it under a limited account first a get a flood of messages saying that iTunes (!!) is trying to install something and can't. After I have clicked away around 10-20 of these messages PC Suite starts but any attempt to connect or open the connection centre just displays a message saying it can't find any connection devices, and the suggestion that PC Suite should be re-installed.
This message is complete rubbish. It doesn't matter how often you uninstall or reinstall PC Suite (even if you also delete all Nokia and PC Suite folders and registry keys manually), the results under a limited account are always the same.
The next step was to change the limited account to an admin account -- this lays the computer wide open to attacks and infections, but it usually works on 99% of all applications, even very badly programmed applications. PC Suite is an exception here -- it seems that it is worse than just bad. Starting under the now-admin account no longer displays the spurious iTunes messages, but PC Suite can still not find any connection types. Same problem as before.
So then I uninstalled PC Suite once again and reinstalled it directly under the account that I had just changed to Admin, once again deleting all Nokia and PC Suite folders and Registry keys manually first. This would normally work even with the most disastrously badly programmed applications. But again, not with PC Suite. It seems that PC Suite is even worse than disastrously bad.
OK, back to the drawing board. I then reinstalled PC Suite under the main admin account, where it continued to work fine. My suspicion now was that PC Suite's installer is writing hidden registry keys and using them to provide access to the connection types (bluetooth, cable, IR etc.) on a PER USER basis. This would explain why it only works under one account, even when other accounts are set to full admin rights. Also, it seems that these keys aren't getting deleted when you uninstall the program -- that would be the only explanation why the behaviour continues when you install under a different user account, even if it has full admin rights.
To test this I reconfigured the secondary account as a Power User account. Bingo! Now when I start PC Suite under this account it still displays the messages about failed iTunes install routines -- which continue to be a mystery -- but it now at least lists infrared as a connection type. This confirms my suspicion, even though it isn't really very helpful, as my phone doesn't have infrared, just Bluetooth.
So the conclusion is: PC Suite is assigning access rights to connection types with hidden Registry keys and it is doing this on a PER USER basis, not on the basis of user groups. I.e. the rights are being assigned to named users, not to "Administrators" or "Users". Furthermore, these keys do not get deleted or reset when the program is uninstalled, making it impossible to reinstall the program under a different user account, even if that account is a full administrator account.
All this, combined with the fact that PC Suite has clearly not been designed for use under anything except the primary administrator account, makes it pretty useless for one of it's primary purposes: Connecting to Nokia phones from a laptop while on the road.
If anyone knows where the hidden Registry keys are that cause all this trouble I'd love to know about them. But I don't have very high hopes -- people who program a System Tray application from which it is impossible to exit by normal means are not likely to be forthcoming on subjects like this. =;-

dude, sounds like your machine is having problems. I have a desktop that me and the gf use, im the power user and she has a limited account in win xp. we can both use pc suite with no problems. the only issue we ever saw was when we had to connect her phone, you need admin rights to do this and windows pops up with a box asking you to put in the admin username and password (i used my own) and it worked fine.

  • SMB sharing and shared users

    Hi
Hmmm... Difficult to explain... english is not my natural language...
I ve to setup a distant backup for all the MACs of my office. The software to do that is only available for windows : ADBackup.
First problem : ADBackup can save files thru the network but can only use ONE id and paswword for all the machines.
So, my idea is the following : All my MACs are under 10.5. I can configure for all a unique shared user/password (called backup for exemple) that have only read rights and share the folders that I want to save thru SMB.
I ve done that on my MAC and test. XP reconignize the sharing. But I cannot connect to my mac with the backup account. It works perfectly with my own account.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks

  • Itunes preferences for shared user accounts

I moved iTunes into folder Users/Shared.  I have the iMac setup with an Administrator user account + six Managed user acounts.  iTunes in the administrator account works.  How can I get iTunes in the six managed accounts to work.  I am a new user and will need clear instructions.  Thanks.

Try reposting in the iTunes forum if no one here can give you a hand.

  • Migration assistant and 2nd user account

Yesterday I set up my new Mac Mini and used Migration Assistant to transfer files from my PC to my new Mac.
I can't now access the files as a 2nd user, as I am being prompted for a password. I can't remember setting a password for a 2nd user account. If I did it would be the same as my Administrators account.
Any suggestions on how I can access the 2nd user account?
I presume I will later on be able to transfer files from 2nd user account to my Mac account and then delete the 2nd user account.
I am a new Mac user.

From the main account on your Mac, the one you are now signed into, open a Finder window and go to the Users folder and right click on that second user account. Select Get Info from the list that comes up. When that opens scroll down to the bottom and click the small Lock icon and type in your Admin password. Once the lock icon is open click on the Plus ( + ) sign and add your current username, the one you are now logged into to the list for Sharing & Permissions and then  give it both Read & Write access. Then on the icon with the little gear and downward facing triangle click that and select Apply to Enclosed items. That will propagate those permission down to all folders and files in that second user account.
you should then be able to access all the folders in that second user account and copy those files over to your main account. Once you have done that you can go into User & Groups in System Preferences and delete, remove, that second account.

  • Problem with iTunes and multiple user accounts in Windows

I am running iTunes on a PC (Windows XP) and have multiple user accounts. When I switch between user accounts and try to open iTunes, I get a message that tells me I can't open the program because another user is using it. Is it really true that I can only have iTunes open in one user account at a time on a PC with multiple user accounts ?!? If not, what am I doing wrong?

You are right, can only have one open. You have to log out of a user before logging in to another user to use iTunes. Do not use the fast user switching ability of Windows.

  • Problem with Photoshop and Corrupt User Account

This morning when I attempted to save a document I was working on in Photoshop CS3, the application suddenly crashed. Since then, I have not been able to reopen Photoshop without it quitting unexpectedly within seconds of launch. Never had this happen before. I tried rebooting, resetting the PRAM, fixing disk permissions, repairing the disk, rebuilding the directory with DiskWarrior, trashing Photoshop's preference files and reinstalling the program with no change. None of the other apps on my computer seem affected, only Photoshop.
What did make a difference was creating a new user account. While logged in to the new account, Photoshop launches fine and I can work in it with no problem. I also have a Carbon Copy Cloner backup of my boot drive (which I've failed to keep up to date - it's a few months old) and Photoshop works fine from there (if I boot from the clone).
So it seems that my primary user account has become corrupted. What I'm wondering is if (1), I can "repair" my old User Account or (2), if I should move all my user files to the new User Account (and the best way to do that) or (3), if I should try and update the clone of my hard drive without transferring any of the User Account or possible OS corruption to it and then wipe my primary drive clean (after I've tested the clone) and reclone the clone back to the primary.
    Thanks for reading.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Two ipods and two user accounts

I have my 5th gen ipod and my girlfriend has a 4th gen.

  • Can't enroll device for user and this user account is not authorized to use Windows Intune.

    Hello,
We have SCCM 2012 R2 inegrated with intune via an intune subscription. When I enroll a device with my admin account there are no problems, but when I want to add it with another user account which is a member of the Intune users collection, it can't be enrolled.
When I tested on https://portal.manage.microsoft.com with the credentials of the user I couldn't connect and received the following error: This user account is not authorized to use Windows Intune.
Do I have to do anything in the https://accounts.manage.microsoft.com as there is a checkbox saying Windows Intune. this is unchecked now for all the users even my own account on which I'm able to enroll a device.
Or is this a license problem? I know configuration Manager uses licenses for Intune but where can we track how many licenses are used and how many available? Is there some kind of report available?
I hope someone can help me
    Kind regards,
    Robben

I added them yesterday and this morning I was still not able to enroll a device with the added user his credentials.
The UPN is correct. Maybe I need to force the DirSync then? Or will one day of waiting be enough normally?
I can see the user in the intune management portal. Does this means it has been synced?
Another thing I noticed is the cloudusersync.log doesn't show them being added? What I was thinking is I first used the all Users collection in the subscription and afterwards I changed it to a specific collection with only the test users. Could it be that
they all synced already and the log doesn't show them anymore?
A warning in this log shows this also:
