Sharing a Catalog's History between volume Folders?

Setup: I have been working on my images 'Volume A' in the past.
I have just mounted a pair of 1.5Tb drives inside my (MacPro) workstation and now have the same series of images, from 'Volume A', on one of the new internal drives. One of the new drives, 'Volume B' will now be my 'work' drive to continue my editing on.
Question: I want the History states AND my Snapshots from the images I had edited while using 'Volume A' as my work drive to be visible in the ('Volume B') new  drive's History and Snapshots windows' – details precisely as they exist when I look back at Volume A's History and Snapshots records! Is there a way for me to do this w/Lightroom 2?
As things stand now:
1) In 'Volume A' (original) drive's History and Snapshots windows I see all my editing details...
2) While in the new ('Volume B') drive's History and Snapshots windows I only see today's import (in the History panel) and 'Import', along with 'Import 2' in the Snapshots panel. This is NOT what I want to see. I want to see precisely what I have, had done in the original work-volume's History and Snapshots windows! (I often go back-and-forth between past History states weeks or months later, to experiment more and then save new Snapshots as I revisit work.)
Any easy (or convoluted) fix to this?
Thanks in advance, mm

Let me try this again:
- I used to use 'Drive A' as my work drive. It is an external drive. The image files in my LR catalog are all on this external drive.
- The MacPro I work on had a massive failure a while back. When I got a replacement MP I added 2 additional drives to the workstation. I have chosen one of those new drives as my Startup drive, my boot drive – my work drive. Let's call it 'Drive B'.
- I DO NOT intend to go back and forth between drives to do my work; however I do plan to backup work I do on 'Drive B' to 'Drive A'. (Remember, 'Drive A' is the external drive! It is now my archive drive.)
Here's the deal, DJ:
- When I open Lightroom, the application sees both volumes and both sets of pictures. (Perfect.)
- Both series are exactly the same as I cloned the master archive folder holding all my images over to the new drive ('Drive B') when I set up the new machine!
- However, when I open the exact same file in 'Drive B' (that was originally edited on 'Drive A') I do not see the ANY of the original History! It makes sense, does it not, that if Drive B is my work drive now I should have information that is helpful to me for future edit variations at my fingertips on that drive, rather than to write new instructions by way of editing on the external drive instead?
* I just want the original History states transferred-over in tact from the old external drive to my new internal drive! That shouldn't be so difficult, should it?
SEE screen capture included: View of Left panel, Snapshots and History windows open – OLD drive ('Drive A') and NEW drive ('Drive B').

  • Windows Server 2012 Windows Backup failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.

  • Keyboard Shortcut for Selecting between volumes?

How do I select between volumes without having to use the mouse to select the upper left hand section if the finder window? It seems like I can only navigate the folders contained within the drives using the keypad, but not between the drives themselves. Anybody know if this is possible?

iKey is a front end program that simulates typing and mouse movements. I use iKey to remap the Function keys.
"iKey is an automation utility, a program that creates shortcuts to accomplish repetitive tasks. In essence, an iKey shortcut is a little program in its own right, but you don't need to know the first thing about programming to create an iKey shortcut. All you have to do is put together three necessary parts of a shortcut: One or more commands that give the shortcut its functionality, a context in which it runs, and a launcher that defines how the shortcut is activated."
    http://www.scriptsoftware.com/ikey/
iKey has a little more function then the previous free version called youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11485&vid=75326
I have the common programs that I use assigned to function keys. I have F4 assigned to Firefox. When I want to start FireFox, I press F4. When I want to switch to firefox, I press F4! Starting & switching to an application in Mac OS are the same thing in Mac OS.
Here is an example of to assign volumn control to a function key.

Here is my script for listing my application folder. I have it assigned to function-key 6.
    tell application "Finder"
set windowNames to windows whose name contains "Applications"
       repeat with wNames_ref in windowNames
          close wNames_ref
       end repeat
       activate
       select window of desktop
make new Finder window to startup disk
       select Finder window 1
set target of Finder window 1 to folder "Applications" of startup disk
       select Finder window 1
       set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
    end tell
The second portion of this script was generated in the script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some editing, I copy the script to ikey/youpi key.
I have all of my frequently used applications set to function keys.

  • Can you copy purchase history between two different iTunes accounts?

So I have music from two different iTunes store accounts that were purchased on two different credit cards. I want to buy and album & I have 7 of the songs from it, but it isn't showing up as purchased, because they were purchased on the other account. I don't want to pay for those songs again, so is there a way to copy the purchase history between the different accounts so I don't have to pay for them again?

    No.

  • Error 8004230f and 2155348075 "Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes."

    Hello,
When I try to run a system state backup with this command: wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:<drive letter>
    I get the error
"Failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.
ERROR - Volume Shadow Copy Service operation error (0x8004230f)
The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation."
I'm not sure how to fix this. I'm logged into the machine as an Administrator.
    Windows Server Enterprise 2008 SP2 64-bit
    Any suggestions??

After I re-registered the dll, I'm still getting the same error in the command window. The DLL registers successfully and the "MS Software Shadow Copy Provider" starts fine.

  • T420: Button in between "volume" and "ThinkVantage" -what does this do?

I can't figure out what the button in between "volume" and "ThinkVantage" on my T420 does.  I've never seen the symbol before, it looks like a diagonal rectangle with a circle at the top.  It has to be important if it got its own key, but nothing happens when you press it as far as I can tell.  I feel like I'm asking Mr. Obvious from Bob and Tom...
This is what the key looks like.

  • Moving LR files between disk folders that don't appear in Navigator but are in other LR catalogs

I want to move LR files from one disk folder to another. The folders don't appear in the Navigator with the current catalog open.
I can't navigate the disk hierarchy to find the other folders. I'm guessing that I need to open each catalog and move the files it's aware of, then open a different catalog and repeat. Is this correct? Would this assure that each catalog knows the locations of its own moved files?
I was hoping there's a way to avoid combining catalogs at this time. Perhaps in the future I'd combine some or all of them
    Am I missing anything?
    Thanks.

    Ian,
With CS3, I think you'll have to render your images as TIFF or PSD on their way to Photoshop. I'm pretty sure that the local adjustments weren't handled until the Camera Raw that came with CS4.
There's an easy way to tell if that's the case. Open a raw file in your PS3 Camera Raw and see if there are local adjustments available.

  • Sharing Lightroom catalog/database between Mac an PC

I have Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 for Windows. All my photos and Ligthroom catalog/database are located on a networked external drive. I am thinking about getting Lightroom for my new MacBook Pro, however I need to know first if I can access and modify Lightroom catalog/database located on that drive from both Mac and PC.
In other words, say, I am working in Lightroom on PC, adding and editing pictures one day. Then the next day I want to continue the work from my Mac. Can this be done? Do both operating systems use the same Lightroom catalog/database format?
    Cheers,
    RJ Czajkowski

    John,
    Thank you for your reply.
When I said networked drive, I meant a 1TB WD MyBook external drive, formatted to FAT32 and attached through a USB hub to 1TB Time Capsule. It is accessible from both my desktop PC (through Ethernet cable) and from my MacBook Pro (through Wi-Fi). All Lightroom data (catalog, previews, etc.) and all photos are on that drive.
Since both systems can access this drive, I assume this arrangement should work with what I want to do.
    Cheers,
    RJ Czajkowski

  • Shared Lightroom Catalog???

I use Lightroom exclusively for my photos.   I initially used it with my desktop Mac (PowerPC G5) and then started using it also on my laptop (Macbook Pro).  Both computers have all photos on external drives.  There is a separate Lightroom catalog on each computer corresponding to each computer with it's individual external drive.   You can imagine my problem now, I'm sure.  I have, effectively, TWO Lightroom catalogs, each with unique images, but also I've copied some photos over between them.  The problem is growing exponentially.
Here's what I'd LIKE to do.   I'd like to install a shared NAS drive (perhaps an Apple Time Capsule drive) on my central hub in my house (my whole house is wired for Ethernet so that's not a problem), then put all photos on that single hub, thereby using a single Lightroom catalog and with it's images from either computer.  If I have to travel somewhere and take some photos with me, I can deal with that because that it is typically the exception, not the rule.
Has anyone tried to do this?   I don't need to nor expect to hit the shared catalog from both computers at the same time.  I'll be using one or the other, but not both.  But I'd like to bring these two environments together.
I'd love some insight from forum members who've attacked this problem and solved it.  I just don't know if Lightroom will allow the catalog to be on a shared drive, thus accessed by either computer.    If it will, then I imagine the work I need to do is:
    1)     create a large shared NAS drive.
    2)     copy all images to that drive.
    3)     pick one of the two Lightroom catalogs and make that the master and somehow point it to the NAS drive.
    4)     import the remainder of the photos on the NAS drive to Lightroom.
    5)     make sure that both computers reference the Lightroom catalog on the NAS drive.
or maybe not.  Maybe there's a better way.  I'd like your input.
if this won't work, then has anyone successfully merged two Lightroom catalogs together.   One of my catalogs has about 80,000 images, and the other about 35,000 images.   At least 50% of all images are keyworded and I'd really hate to lose my keywords and collections that I've created.
anyway, insight is welcome.  Tell me if I'm nuts too.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dennis

The closest think to this that will work is to put all the images on a large Firewire 800 drive with the LR catalog on the same drive, possibly in another partition. And alternately plug the drive into one machin or the other.
It is Networked drives where one can't put a Catalog, as John says.

  • How to transport/share history between machines manually?

I have a couple computers that I would like to have share (URL browsing) history, but would like to do it manually rather than via Synch. I have been copying places.sqlite and sessionstore.js between the machines, and this does work most of the time, though occasionally the history gets entirely cleared (perhaps when I add or modify bookmarks on one of the machines? I haven't determined the exact circumstances yet). Is there another file or files I could copy to make this history sharing more reliable (hopefully much less than the entire profile subdirectory)? Thank you in advance for any assistance!

  • Shared Lightroom catalog with Mac OS X Lion

I keep my Lightroom catalog on my Macbook Pro so I have access to my pictures while travelling. But for editing, I use a desktop PC running Lightroom on Windows 7 on the same catalog. My process for doing this is:
On the Mac, enable SMB sharing.
On Windows, mount the SMB share.
On Windows, use "subst" to map the SMB share to a new drive root.
(This avoids Lightroom's spurious error about not supporting network volumes.)
On Windows, launch Lightroom and open the catalog on the mapped drive.
This worked in Snow Leopard. But after upgrading to Lion, Step 4 gives me an error:
Lightroom cannot use the catalog named "Lightroom 3 catalog" because it is not writable and cannot be opened.
This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog. You may try to correct the problem or you may select a different catalog.
Permissions seem OK: I can edit the catalog and the Previews.lrdata folder in Windows Explorer. And I see no stray .lrcat.lock file that might prevent it from opening the catalog.
The Mac version of Lightroom can open the catalog just fine, so I suspect Lion's new SMB implementation broke this somehow.
Has anyone got a shared Lion -> Windows catalog to work?

OK, I  found a solution. The following page describes how to manually install an SMB implementation (Samba) that actually works. It requires installing Xcode from the App Store, installing MacPorts, and some command-line tinkering to configure Samba:
    http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?t=24022
Once you've done that , follow the instructions in this post to create launchd entries that will start Samba at boot time:

More details are here if you run into trouble:

While I can now access my LR library again from Windows, this is just the latest in a series of annoying bugs with OS X Lion. I am not a happy camper— but I'll save that for the Apple forums.

  • Finder bug in distinguishing between volumes

i have been experiencing what seems like a very bad bug and i am wondering if there is something particular to my setup. now that i have two HD's running Mac OS's on my mac pro i can see it clearer but it also manifests itself when i am using my SL OS on the laptop to access the SL OS on my mac pro. in the scenario below however i am describing accessing the SL OS on one hard drive in my mac pro from the Lion OS on another hard drive in my mac pro.
the problem is that if I SELECT the Snow Leopard volume I see - for instance - "DESKTOP" listed, however if i OPEN A NEW FINDER WINDOW by doubleclicking on this Desktop icon (again shown with the Snow Leopard HD highlighted under DEVICES) Finder will bring up a window with the LION Desktop. This means that Finder is getting confused between the Desktop folder icon when i am in one volume with the Desktop folder icon on the volume that i am ACCESSING IT FROM. this is very dangerous and i am realizing that i have been experiencing this while accessing the Lion OS on my mac pro from my MacBook Pro on a regular basis.
this issue is even manifested when i am attempting to DELETE DATA from the Snow Leopard OS. when i am in the SNOW LEOPARD volume (and attempting to delete files and folders from Snow Leopard desktop that have now been migrated to the Lion OS - and are now on my Lion Desktop) finder gets confused about the fact that i am telling it to delete the items that are in the SL Desktop and it is instead DELETING items from my LION DESKTOP.
this seems extremely buggy to me (again it is happening when i access my mac pro from my macbook pro) and i am wondering if there is a good reason for this or if i have not set a switch somewhere that will allow it to work more intelligently than this.
seems extremely dangerous to me...and booting into the Snow Leopard drive /every/ time i want to do something in there seems extremely impractical...
    thanks.

OK. this had to do with creating an extra User Account (with the same name) and then not being logged into the correct correct OS i think.
that said, if anyone catches this i am pretty sure i get this sort of behavior when accessing my laptop from my desktop or vice versa.

  • Workgroup Manager won't show available volumes/folders to setup share point

Server 10.4.11: open Workgroup Manager and select the Sharing panel.
Clicking the "Share Points" tab displays my current share points as expected.
But clicking the "All" tab shows a +completely blank window+: no volumes or folders at all!
(The button at the bottom to mount or unmount a remote NFS volume appears, but I've never used it and I don't know what good it might be.)
Accessing the server with the 10.5 version of Workgroup Manger from a Leopard client gives the same behavior.

Never mind. Rebooted the machine and it's back to normal. Go figure.
