Sharing an HP deskjet 9800 on a windows 7 64 bit machine with a machine running XP 32 bit

I have Windows 7 (64bit) on my computer.  I want to install an x86 driver for my HP Deskjet 9800 printer so my XP laptop can print to this printer through my home network.  I started by clicking on Devices and Printer, clicked on the HP Deskjet printer icon, right clicked the icon and selected Printer Properties. I clicked on the Sharing tab and the change setting button.  I then selected Additional Drivers.  I put a check in the box next to x86 and clicked OK. Windows wants me to provide the driver.  I downloaded the xp driver from HP and can see it in a folder on the desktop but get an error something to the affect of "not compatiable with
64 bit system"
How do I get this driver installed on my computer? or is there another solution to print to this printer from my XP machine?

Try the following: On the XP machine go to the Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then select HP Deskjet 9800 series.  (If the Deskjet 9800 is not available install the driver as if the printer was connected to LPt1:, then after the drivers are installed cancel and go back and add printer pointing to the new shared port.

  • Sharing p4014n printer on windows 7 machine with XP machine

I have installed a Laserjet P4014n on a new Windows 7 machine with the USB connection - I allowed it to detect and install the drivers automatically.  The printer works great on the Win7 machine.
I shared the printer and would now like to have an XP machine also be able to use it for printing.  However when I add a printer and I browse out to the shared printer on the Win7 machine,  the XP machine gives the error:  "The server for the HP LaserJet P4014/P4015 PCL6 printer does not have the correct printer driver installed.  If you want to search for the proper driver click OK.  Otherwise click Cancel..."  I tried to find the correct driver (.INF) file on the CD that came with the printer, but it does not seem to like any of the files on the CD.
I have tried to install on the XP machine the drivers using the CD that came with the printer, but because there is not a printer connected, it will not install.  I have also downloaded the XP drivers (PCL6 and Universal Printer Drivers for PCL5 and PCL6)  for the printer from the HP website, and tried to browse to those when installing the drivers but it still cannot find a file it likes.
What file should I be looking for on the CD or downloaded files for XP?
I also tried to add additional drivers on the Win7 machine but again can not find a file that installs from the CD or downloaded files.

i am having the same problem. the printer is installed on a new windows 7 computer and we are trying to share it to a windows vista computer. did you figure out how to get it to work?! we r getting very frustrated!!

  • Windows 7 Enterprise with Visual Studio 2008 and 32 bit ODBC access

I have a 32 bit ODBC used to access Progress databases. We have to use the 32 bit driver.   My development had been run on XP in the past with no issues.  I have moved to a Windows 7 Enterprise workstation currently and cannot access
through my app. The ODBC was installed as 32 bit through the SysWow64\odbcca32.exe with no issues.  I have tried to run my app with the x86 option but it still does not see the ODBC.  I went in and created a fake ODBC in the 64 bit interface
and the app did see that ODBC so the app is running in 64 bit mode.  How can I force this app to run as 32 bit on my machine?  Thanks in advance.

  • How do I back up a windows 7 PC With time machine?

I am thinking of purchasing a time capsule, and i want to know if there is any easy way to back up to my windows 7 PC as well as to my Mac

You can't backup a windows PC with Time Machine, as it works only on a Mac.  But you can use  Windows backup software which can handle network drives such as Time Capsule.

  • Windows Explorer crawls with DW 8 running

If I leave DW running for any period of time, it eventually
affects my ability to move/manage files in Windows Explorer. For
instance, to simply move or copy a small text file from one network
drive to another could take 20 to 30 seconds. If DW is not running
    it is nearly instantaneous.
I'm running Windows XP. Any ideas?

If you had an earlier version of iTunes that worked, you could downgrade iTunes and Quicktime back to the previous version. You have to uninstall iTunes and quicktime first.
You would have to rebuild your library from the xml file though as the older version will not wok with the version 9 library file.
There are an number of extra codec packs and converters that upset Quicktime, usually causing it to crash, but I haven't seen this one with Quicktime before.
You may already know that the Sony Vaio comes with software that upsets iTunes and causes problem with the library. There are numerous threads on my library is empty from people with Vaios. Not your problem though.

  • Shared external HDD minimum 2TB (or server) for 4 Macs with time machine backup?

I work in a small design studio running 4 macs we need to put all of our work on one central harddrive that everyone can access. But then we would also like one Mac with an external harddrive attached to back up the contents of that shared drive. I have spoken with the people in the business centre But they dont seem to understand what I am trying to do.
I appreciate any ideas you may have.
So far what i have been sugested by the business centre is airport exterme with external HDD attached. But when i ask about using time machine to back up that HDD they get confused.

I have found on my server log the following information:

What is the "Extended Attributes" and how do I use "ea:ad" instead?

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • Can't install deskjet 9800

    Hi all,
I'm sure this is down to my lack of knowledge! I am trying to print to an HP DeskJet 9800 at a clients, but without success.
I've found the printer in the Windows section of System prefs > Print & fax > add printer, but no driver in the "print using" list. So...I downloaded the latest Mac driver from hp.com and installed it, but when I go back to the "print using" list, I still can't see a driver for it, and don't know where on the hard drive drivers are located so I can search for it manually.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Nige

OK...so I am now able to print to the printer, but am having real problems with the page layout.
Normal portrait documents (e.g. Word, Excel) print fine.
However, if I have a landscape document (e.g. a form in Word, or wide spreadsheet in Excel), even if I tell the print driver to print landscape, it actually prints portrait half-way down the page, missing the data from the right side as it is wider than the page.
If I save the document as a PDF, then print the PDF from Acrobat with 'rotate page' checked, it prints the right way round, but starts about 3 inches down the page, therefore missing off one end!
This must be an issue with the driver I just installed...I can print to 2 other HP Deskjets, and my Kyocera laser without any problem.
    Any help gratefully received.

  • My deskjet 9800 only prints partial pages

My deskjet 9800 only prints partial pages in 11x17" format. then pulls another paper for two inches of printing then pulls another paper for another two inches of printing etc. Other sizes work fine. I just upgraded my computer and changed cable to a usb port. I downloaded a new driver and reset all the settings. I am lost as what to do. thank you Einer Mortensen

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing partial print issues when printing from your Windows 8 computer to your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this wireless printing issue. Because you are able to scan without issues, and are able to print from other devices perfectly fine I do not believe that this is a networking issue, or a software and driver conflict between your Windows computer and your printer. Rather, I believe that there is a wireless printing port (WSD Port) conflict occuring on your computer. Can I please have you follow the steps below to resolve this issue.  Microsoft has released a Hotfix to correct printing issues within the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Operating Systems. This includes 'Partial Printing' and 'Printer Offline' issues. The printing issues appear to affect networked printers regardless of make or model and is a conflict with the WSD Network Port on Windows 8.1. Please click here to download and run a Microsoft Fix It Tool. Once the website opens for the Hotfix please click the button for 'Hotfix Download Available'. Please follow the onscreen prompts to install the Hotfix. Once the Hotfix has been loaded please test wireless printing again. If printing fails you may need to restart your computer for the Hotfix to take affect. Once your computer comes ON test wireless printing to confirm that the issue has been resolved.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Can I share my DeskJet 722C connected to a Windows XP Desktop with a 64 bit Windows 7 HP ProBook?

I was able to directly connect my HP DeskJet 722c with my new HP ProBook (S-series), running on 64-bit Windows 7, after following directions on this site.  But now I would like to permanently re-connect the DeskJet to my 32-bit Sony Desktop computer, running on Windows XP, and be able to share that printer on my wireless network with my HP ProBook laptop.  Can you help me?

This can be done by sharing the printer on the XP system and adding it to the Windows 7 system using a Windows Update driver.
The first part is to install and share the printer on the Windows XP system.
To share the printer on the XP system, follow the steps in this document from Microsoft.  I recommend using something simple for the printer share name as it will need to be entered on the Windows 7 system.
The next step is adding the printer to the Windows 7 computer.  Make sure to uninstall the printer from the Windows 7 computer before continuing.
    1.  Go to Start>Devices and Printers.
    2.  Click on Add a printer at the top.
    3.  While it is a networked printer, it is not the current network standard printer.  Select Add a local printer.
    4.  Select Create a new port with a local port for type.
    5.  Enter \\<host computer name>\<printer name> without the < > symbols.  The host computer name is the name of the computer that has the printer attached to it.  If you do not know that name, go to the host computer and go to Start>Right-click Computer (My Computer on XP)>Properties.  The computer name will be listed here.  The printer's share name was selected in a previous step in the Microsoft article.
    6.  Click Ok and the printer driver screen will appear.  Click on Windows Update to ensure it is the most current list.
    7.  Select the printer model from that list.
    8.  Follow the rest of the prompts.
At the end of these steps, the printer should be shared from the host computer to the other Windows 7 computers.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Deskjet 9800

I'm having a new problem with my Deskjet 9800.  I'm not sure if the carriage is sticking a touch when it's printing or if I'm having some sort of calibration issue but when printing a test page of lines (as an example), the lines come out slightly wavy and it looks like I'm losing the resolution in some areas.  Some spots will have crisp lines, some lines look pixilated.
I've tried replacing cartridges.  I've tried doing some cleaning on the machine.  I've run through the suggestions in the troubleshooting areas.  Nothing seems to help.
Granted, the printer is getting old but if anyone has some advice that lets me repair it, I'd be pleased.
    Thanks
    Jo

I guess you have sorted it out by now. So have I, but I'm not sure what I did right. I had my 9800 for about a year running fine under XP then put it on my new Vista computer. Drivers all seemed to be there OK but when I tried to print - even a test page - it just chuntered through a blank sheet and showed an unspecified error. The clue came after I downloaded the toolbox: That printed fine when I ran cartridge alignment from it but the next blank test page from windows triggered a more specific error message "Unexpected paper size". It seemed to have defaulted to A3 although I had loaded and called up A4. Since then, I have "nursed" it through the printing process - opening printer preferences before printing, manually checking the paper size and selecting "preview before printing" on the finishing tab. It was good when I did that, but I spent a frustrating hour or two sorting it out.

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
