Sharing configuration files

Hi,
I've a couple of different cache servers offering a mix of services. Some of the services are shared among them and others are not. Is there a mechanism where I can declare those common services a file and import or include them in the respective configuration files of the servers?
Thanks
Sijo Mathew

Hi Sijo
Or if you do not want to build things yourself you could check out the Coherence Incubator Commons here http://coherence.oracle.com/display/INC10/coherence-common which has a way of combining multiple configuration files.

SoFS is a good choice for a) Hyper-V and b) SQL Server (anything working with a big files like VHDX and MDF). For a bunch of a small files IIS has in a shared directories SoFS is not going to work and it's cleary said in the documentation. See:
Scale-Out File Server for Application Data Overview
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831349.aspx
    Workload: Information worker
    Yes
    Not recommended
    Workload: Hyper-V
    Yes
    Yes
    Workload: Microsoft SQL Server

    Yes
So in your case just an ordinary clustered file servers should be enough. See:

    Hope this helped :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Configuration file for smart view for Hyperion planning

    Hi,
We are using SmartView for accessing HyperionPlanning application. Please let me know how can we change the provider to use shared services and enable planning it for logging to file. Also which properties file is used for these configurations and where can we locate the configuration file on Hyperion planning installation system.
    Please suggest.

    Hi,
Checkout the below metalink from Oracle.
Hyperion Strategic Finance Will Not Connect Via SmartView (Doc ID 1561484.1)
Below Solution  as per doc ---
    1. Run the installation for the HSF Web Application component on the Foundation server where weblogic is for HSF Server.
(Be sure the HSF Web Application component is also installed on the the HSF Server, if separate from the Foundation server as well.)
    2. Clean up any failed deployments in the WebLogic Console by deleting the HSFWeb Server from WL Admn
    3. Configure the new component on Foundation (target server).
    4. On OHS server run configtool and perform the WebServer config task to configure OHS for HSFweb
    5. Restart OHS and start HSFWeb

  • Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]) and error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    Hi Gurus,
I'm trying to upgrade my test 9.2.0.8 rac to 10.1 rac. I cannot upgrade to 10.2 because of RAM limitations on my test RAC. 10.1 Clusterware software was successfully installed and the daemons are up with OCR and voting disk created. Then during the installation of RAC software at the end, root.sh needs to be run. When I run root.sh, it gave the error: while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. I have libpthread.so.0 in /lib. I looked up on metalink and found Doc ID: 414163.1 . I unset the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in vipca (unsetting of LD_ASSUME_KERNEL was not required in srvctl because there was no LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in srvctl). Then I tried to run vipca manually. I receive the following error: Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]). I'm able to see xclock and xeyes. So its not a problem with x.

if you look at oifcfg getif, I initially had eth1 10.0.0.0 global cluster_interconnect,eth0 192.168.2.0 global public then I created eth1 10.1.1.0 global cluster_interconnect with setif. Should it be 10.1.1.0 or 10.0.0.0. I looked at the subnet calculator and it says for 10.1.1.1, 10.0.0.0 is the subnet. In metalink they had used 10.10.10.0 and hence I used 10.1.1.0
Any ideas on resolving this issue would be very much appreciated. I had been searching on oracle forums, google, metalink but all of them refer to DOC Id 414163.1 but it does n't seem to work. Please help. Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to Initialize Volume Manager from a Configuration File

I'd like to reattach a D1000 to a rebuilt system. The array contains a raid 5 partition that was built with Solaris Volume Manager (Solaris 9). Since it is the same system all controller/target/slice ids have not changed. I was able to restore the Volume Manager configuration files (/etc/lvm) from a tape backup and followed the instructions provided in the Solaris Volume Manager Administration Guide: How to Initialize Solaris Volume Manager from a Configuration File <http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/816-4519/6manoju60?a=view>.
All of the state database replicas for this partition are contained on the disks within the array so I began by creating new database replicas on a local disk.
I then copied the /etc/md.cf file to /etc/md.tab
    # more /etc/lvm/md.tab
    # metadevice configuration file
    # do not hand edit
    d0 -r c1t10d0s0 c1t11d0s0 c1t12d0s0 c1t8d0s0 c1t9d0s0 c2t10d0s0 c2t11d0s0 c2t12d0s0 c2t8d0s0 c2t9d0s0 -k -i 32b -h hsp000
    hsp000 c1t13d0s0 c2t13d0s0
I then tested the syntax of the md.tab file (this output is actually from my secomd attempt).
    # /sbin/metainit -n -a
    d0: RAID is setup
metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 4: hsp000: hotspare pool is already setup
Not seeing any problems I then attempted to recreate the d0 volume, but it fails with the error below:
    # /sbin/metainit -a
metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 3: d0: devices were not RAIDed previously or are specified in the wrong order
metainit: <hostname>: /etc/lvm/md.tab line 4: hsp000: hotspare pool is already setup
Any suggestions on how to reinitialize this volume would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Doug

  • An OS-Intergrated place to store per-user application configuration files.

    A Chairde,
I'm developing an application that could be deployed on multiple platforms. I'm looking for a location to store per-user configuration files in a OS-integrated way.
I use a utility class to determine the OS of the users machine. I know from experience that Windows NT5+ likes to store per-user settings/configurations in the %APPDATA% path (which is usually C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Roaming\<vendor>\<software> etc.) I'm using a call to the environment labels to determine it's location.
I'm a linux user myself, so I'm aware that most UNIX based Operating Systems like to store personal configurations in hidden folders in the user's home directory (ex /home/<username>/.<application> etc.), Obviously, I'm using a call to the system property user.home to determine that location.
My Question is in relation to Mac OS and Mac OS X, where would it be a safe location to store per-user configurations? I know OS X is BSD/UNIX based so is it safe to assume to store them as a hidden subfolder of the user.home directory? What about Mac OS classic? Where are per-user settings stored, or is it like Windows 9x and NT4 and lacks proper multi-user setups (although NT4 is somewhat more prepared then 9x) ?
It would be much appreciated if anybody has any ideas.
    Is Mise,
    Seán Mac Aodha
PS. I'm not using Javas Property files etc. I've rolled my own exchangeable format for storing key, value pairs.

I've used databases in the past to store local files but clients have sometimes run into trouble when the database daemon goes down or doesnt start-up normally because of a "improper" shutdown etc.
In my own implementation of "Settings Files" i have serialized hashtables marked with appropriate metadata stored to the users "application data", a backup or original copy of those settings in the common directory shared by my application framework and then in a networked enviroment, the Settings can be hosted on a database server, so the user can travel between client machines and keep their settings (and files) with them.
I have, with a bit of googling, come across the most obvious page i should have looked at in regards to Apple Mac OS X
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPFileSystem/Articles/WhereToPutFiles.html
According to Apple's guidlines, the most suitable place to store User configuration files is in the ~/Library/Application Support/<Application Name> directory.
and for System-wide configuration files, /Library/Application Support/<Application Name> rather then storing them with the application in the /Applications directory.

  • [SOLVED!] WINE: libSM.so.6: cannot open shared object file= fail

    Greetings,
So today I decided I'd play an old windows game with my son. It's been a while since I've played  wine game with him... since my last reinstallthat I did just for the S&G to play with the new install method.
Anyways, I go through the motions, installing wine and all that. Then I go and click on the game to run. Nothing.
So, I go and try to run it through command line. I get this fun stuff:

I search the mighty internets and try many different things. But I cannot seem to find the file that gives "libSM.so.6" or whatever is needed to make this work. So defeated, I come to you to ask that you please give me a leg up here.

Honestly, I did not know about pkgfile.
So, I installed it and determined that while I have libsm, I was missing lib32_libsm. So installing that fixed my issue with WINE.
Thanks for the leg up Trilby! Most appreciated!

  • Can't save VPN configuration file

I am trying to setup the VPN services on Lion Server. I setup the shared secret, entered in a IP range and defined my VPN client host which is DYNDNS (e.g., domainname.dyndns.org). I get an error message when trying to save my configuration file that indicates I did not enter or need to enter a VPN client host but the little green symbol comes on when I enter the domain name.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I went back to the VPN client host and tried to enter in different VPN hosts and even resorted to using known domains just to see if I can save the file and it still will not work. Any ideas?

I had the same problem.  What fixed it for me was to change the name of the config file.  That was it...worked just fine.

  • Modifying the configuration files in OBIEE 11g

    Hi
We are facing an error when we tried to to add "<DashboardMaxBeforeMenu>" tag in the instanceconfig.xml manually and restart the presentation services of OBIEE 11g .
I had come across few suggestions that, configuration files in OBIEE 11g cannot be modified manually. I am doubtful on these suggestions . So please, let me know for sure wether we can modify the configuration files in OBIEE 11g manually or not.
It will be very helpful if the process to modify the configuration files in OBIEE 11g is shared with us.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I could not tell you whether the; <DashboardMaxBeforeMenu>10</DashboardMaxBeforeMenu> still works in 11g.
What I do know is that you could manually edit the configuration files. The only thing is when you modify this file via the Enterprise Manager, your customizations get lost. You have to manually add them again.

  • Multiple product install with shared configuration

Maybe what we try to achieve is simply not possible. I can get it to work if I make manual modifications but I fear that the resulting setup will fail after an update to the p2 profile (update of a IU or new IU..)
The setup we want to achieve is as following:
--Installation folder, can be written to by administrator (on windows this could be program files for instance), he has p2 tooling that he can use to make modifications to the setup, these tooling will request elevation so it all plays nice.
    --Executable come in root
    /InstallFolder/Application1.exe
    /InstallFolder/Application1.ini
    /InstallFolder/Application2.exe
    /InstallFolder/Application2.ini
--Configuration folders to which osgi.shared.configuration.area should point in the ini
    /InstallFolder/configuration/application1/config.ini
    /InstallFolder/configuration/application2/config.ini
--Shared P2 agent with bundle pooling
    /InstallFolder/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/application1.profile
    /InstallFolder/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/application2.profile
    --Bundle Poll
    /InstallFolder/artifacts/plugins
    /InstallFolder/artifacts/features
The osgi.configuration.area should point to a folder under user.home which we assume is always writable.
The problem is that if we try to enforce this setup by setting the custom configuration folder in the p2 profile (org.eclipse.equinox.p2.configurationFolder) it will always write this folder in the ini file as -configuration {folder}. As a result the launcher ignores osgi.configuration.area in the config.ini or launcher.ini which points to the userhome.
I cannot fill in the user.home in the p2 profile because than other users will not have a working setup. Am I missing something here?
I could manually remove the -configuration after our installer and then the application will work but since the equinox manipulator always seems to load and write this -configuration {folder} if it is not 'configuration' I fear that this will break the setup after one touches the profile to install extra IU's which most of our customers do.
Our current work around is to have each executable in a folder and then the default 'configuration' folder can be used. This feels more like a hack but it works because the -configuration is not written in this case because is it 'configuration'.

schneida wrote:Are there easier mehtods to have a ArchLinux install with local packages?
Personally I use a squid cache proxy to keep a copy of the packages that will be used across the various computers.
    The interesting sections of my /etc/squid/squid.conf file are;
    maximum_object_size 500 MB
    refresh_pattern abs.tar.gz$ 0 20% 4320 refresh-ims
    refresh_pattern db.tar.gz$ 0 20% 4320 refresh-ims

    refresh_pattern pkg.tar.gz$ 10080 90% 43200 override-expire ignore-no-cache ignore-no-store
    The patterns will
    * Cache all pacman packages for at least a week.
    * Check the server if the database has been modified since it was last accessed.

  • Apropriate location for configuration files.

What are the issues with placing configuration files in /etc? In particular, with regards to configuration files shared between multiple applications.
Would you rather see these files in /opt/companyname or /usr/local? Why?
Further, does anyone know where I could find any standards documentation on exactly what types of files belong in which directories?
    Thanks!

Take a look at the following documentation on docs.sun.com:
    -- docs.sun.com -> Solaris 7 -> System Admin Guide I -> Managing File System -> chapter 32.

You will find that /etc/opt -> Configuration information for optional packages. Another typical location where such configuration files are kept are /var/opt -> Root of a subtree for varying files associated with software packages.
You can also find alot of specific/additional information for files in /etc directory in 'man' pages (eg. man networks, etc). An example search order of configuration file by application for your reference.

  • Configurations file

Hi, I would like to design an evironment where two plugins can use or share the same configurations file. One possible solution is to make a copy of the configuration file and put it into the two plugins folder, then just make a require 'config' line for both plugins and it should work. But this way it's a little bit hard to maintain because I'll always keep an eyes of those copy. It's there a smart way to make it easier?
    Thanks.
    Br,
    Fovitan

    Hi Fovitan,
One thing I've learned: Its not good to have any critical files outside the lrplugin folder upon delivery.
Reason: Users sometimes assume there isn't, and may move it around without asking, or even delete other files that came with it.
I mean, if the plugin is using some form of link/reference to some files, then it may still find them, I've just never invented a way to handle this, but maybe you could, or make a feature request if you'd need Lr/SDK support for it to work well...
    Case Study:
    =========
I used to have plugin dev folders and files:
    - Common (lua modules)
    - Plugin X.lrplugin
    - Plugin Y.lrplugin
    Doc X.txt
    Doc Y.txt
    So when it was time to release, I just zipped up the doc, plugin, and common folder and that was all. Very convenient for me, but users kept misplacing the common folder, and then the plugin would not work, sometimes they even let me know there was a problem ;-}
Now, I have a plugin that releases other plugins and copies "Common modules" into 'lrplugin' subfolder.
So, its entirely possible you could invent a scheme that uses pseudo environment variables or a common subdirectory outside lrplugin or something, but I'm having a hard time imagining that being foolproof without an installer.
PS - I actually have a standard subdirectory under lrplugin named 'Preferences' just for config files.
    Typical released plugin nowadays:
    - Plugin X.lrplugin
      - App (optional sidekick app)
      - Framework (common lua modules)
      - Preferences (config support files)
      - Export Presets (if export plugin with built-in presets)
      file_1.lua
      file_2.lua
    (No installer)

If you use common/shared/config modules, only way I know is to have a release procedure to copy stuff to lrplugin folder, or an installer to make sure files will be found outside lrplugin folder - but maybe I've missed some brilliant idea you are about to come up with :-)
    Sorry, if I'm explaining too much about something you already understood - I'd be crucified for it on the tougher forums ;-}

  • Rapidwiz error cannot open shared object file: libpthread.so.0 libc.so.6

    Hi,
We are following Note 238276.1 Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i, trying to install the technology stack (Section 2: Step 4), in a RHEL5 64Bits.
We have downloaded the startCD (B29029-01) and the TechStack CDs (B29032-01_2of2). When running the ./rapidwiz from startCD, we get following error:
/tmp/RapidInstall/jre/Linux/1.4.2/bin/jre: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
chmod: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
rm: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    More info:
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ ldd '/tmp/RapidInstall/jre/Linux/1.4.2/bin/jre'
    linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
    libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00bed000)
    libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00be7000)
    libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00a9f000)
    /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00a81000)
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ rpm -qf /lib/libpthread.so.0
    glibc-2.5-42
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ rpm -qf /lib/libc.so.6
    glibc-2.5-42
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ rpm -qf /lib/libdl.so.2
    glibc-2.5-42
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ rpm -qf /lib/ld-linux.so.2
    glibc-2.5-42
    [applmgr@desaebs rapidwiz]$ locate linux-gate.so.1
It seems that linux-gate.so.1 is not present, I'll try to install it, but I'm not sure this can be the real problem.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!
    Alvaro

    Yes, thats correct ...
    The actual situation is:
-Customer has split configuration: DB 11g in RHEL5x86-64Bits + APPS 11.5.10.2 in Windows2003
-The target is to have all DB11g and APPS R12 in single node RHEL5x86-64Bits
We're following Note "Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i [ID 238276.1]" to migrate the APPS server from Windows to Linux, as a middle/temporary step prior to make the Migration to R12.
We are trying to do it, but we get errors during Section 2.4 "Install the Middle Tier Technology Stack", running the rapidwiz command we get errors, because of R11i is not supported in 64bits platforms (Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2) [ID 316806.1])
Our bigest doubt now is that we are trying to install 11i techstack into RHEL5 x86-64bits, and we think this is not possible, because of R11i is not supported in 64bits platforms !!!
That is, could we migrate the APPS server from Windows to Linux x86-64 as a temporary step to begin the upgrate to R12 all in RHEL5x86-84bits, that is full supported on this 64bit platform?
What possibilities do we have if we can't do this?
Theese can be some of them:
1-Migrate apps server from actual windows2003 to Linux 32bit, in other host with 32 bits installed, instead of 64bits, and move here from windows to lilnux 32bits, and the begin the R12migration
2-Migrate to R12 into actual appserver Windows2003 and then migrate appserver from windows to rhel5-64bits
I don't like second option, because we want to make the R12 upgrade into Linux, not in windows. We need to eliminate windows platform as soon as we can.
    Thanks in advance ,

  • Libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file

Hi, I hope I am posting to right forums. I am trying to install tomcat on my linux box and running into an issue ?libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied?
    Here is what I have:
Linux = Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike)
    SDK = java_app_platform_sdk-5_02-linux.bin
    Tomcat = apache-tomcat-6.0.10
I built jsvc this morning and running following command to get tomcat daemon up,
    ./bin/jsvc -cp ./bin/bootstrap.jar -outfile ./logs/catalina.out -errfile ./logs/catalina.err org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap
I am seeing following error message in Catalina.err file,
    06/03/2007 10:49:24 21247 jsvc.exec error: Cannot dynamically link to /home/rsah/SDK/jdk/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so
06/03/2007 10:49:24 21247 jsvc.exec error: /home/rsah/SDK/jdk/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied
    06/03/2007 10:49:24 21246 jsvc.exec error: Service exit with a return value of 1
I looked at the permission for libjvm.so and it appears to be fine. When I run ldconfig ?p I don?t see libjvm.so loaded so definitely there is something going on. I edited /etc/ld.so.conf and added following line
    /home/rsah/SDK/jdk/jre/lib
But still I don?t see libjvm.so being loaded. I am wondering if one could provide me some pointers.
    libjvm.so located at,
    /home/rsah/SDK/jdk/jre/lib/i386/client
    -rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5310375 Mar 5 18:20 libjvm.so
    I have set JAVA_HOME = ?/home/rsah/SDK/jdk?
PS: I tried all above stuffs with sudo permission.
    Thanks!

I found problem, it was in a configuration file located at bin/jsvc-src/native//Tomcat.sh.
    Thanks
