Sharing sessions between Ear

Is it possable to share sessions object between two ear projects.

as far as I know - out of the box the answer is , NO.
You can achieve this by using third party cache or implementing your own shared memory (e.g. a database)
I believe you can with do it with webapps of the same EAR in BEA 10 but ive never verified and I cant trace it in the docs right now..
Edit : The parameter is called sharing-enabled in weblogic-application.xml , http://tedorgwp.free.fr/?p=163 for a single EAR

  • Sharing sessions between web applications (WAR files)

I am using weblogic 6.1. The opinion I have read indicates that
sessions cannot be shared between WAR files. That is, I cannot put an
attribute on the session from a servlet/JSP in one WAR file and read
it out from the other. The only justification I've seen is "security".
Now, I find this rather difficult to accept for several reasons:
              1. I cannot fathom what kind of "security" would prevent me from
sharing the session between two web applications that I wrote myself.
Let's say I want to write a system that I divide up, for
modularity/separate deployment purposes, into 5 different WAR files.
Why should I not be able to just sign on once and pass that logon
information in the session from one to the other? (I know, I can use
cookies or URL rewriting - but that doesn't seem to be to be a good
solution. And if you can share information through cookies, why not
through sessions?) What about other user information like currently
              selected language?
              2. Several app servers (iPlanet and I have heard two others) allow you
to share sessions between WARs. Why not weblogic?
Thanks for any information you can give me. I have not been able to
find anything in weblogic documentation about this. If I am
misunderstanding the server capabilities, please enlighten me.
              Thanks,

  • Problem: Sharing session between two different Web browser & Web Appn'

Im facing a strange scenario here and would appreciate any inputs which could resolve this issue.
I have two webapplications (EARs) on two different machine and different WebSphere application server. I have WebAppA [on machine A, WAS A] which opens in parent window and expects to pass some info in the FORM submission with request parameter to WebAppB [on machine B, WAS B] which opens in a child window browser on clicking submit button from WebAppA.
Now the WebAppA is required to wait till the response come from WebAppB after certain functionality and once the function of retrieval is over by WebAppB, it sent back the response data back to WebAppA FORM, which finally submits this form after getting the response data from WebAppB. Now the response to WebAppA [which is in machine A, WAS A] from WebAppB is a pure POST request on complete URL and set of request parameters with values.
Now what is happening is that, when a User A fills the form on WebAppA and submits the data to WebAppB, on response it gets the data of some other User request, for example day of UserB or UserC.
Now when I do the test on my development environment, where its just me or some other 2-3 users accessing it I dont face any problem. I get the response for the request I have submitted.PERFECT. On production I have issue where users are getting data as response of other users.
I suspect since the response is submitted to the form page of WebAppA its unable to synchronize to which user it belongs to. May be thats the reason when I test it on development with single or 2-3 users its behaving fine. I hope I could put my question properly to you. I dont know what can resolve this or what is the actual cause? Is there a proper way to implement this? Please any suggestion or inputs are appreciated.

    Thanks Amittev,
That's the problem for me. Actually this is a part of integration with third party application (which is loaded in child window - WebAppB). So as per the functionality there is no reference or trace of the user in the parent window at first instance. Anyone can come to parent window and initiatate a process. Its only when the data comes back from child window (which is the WebAppB), that parent window application (WebAppA) take the response and proceed further. Now here is what I'm facing problem. the user who initiated the process by clicking on the submit buttom of Parent window is not getting his response, but of some other user. This is not happening with every user and at all time. But were sparingly and rarely, but enough to bring headache to our department now.
Now I suspect that, since there is a parent/child browser functionality here the session which is started by parent is not synced with child where the WebAppB is loaded and responds the response to WebAppA. The WebAppB makes a POST request submission to the WebAppA thru the child window and the session here is missing synchronization, I believe. I will appreciate some inputs and resolution to this problem. Thanks.

  • How to Persis session between two ear files

Can anybody tell me how to persists session between two ear files?
    Please Help its urgent!!
    Rahul

Rahul -- there's nothing as a J2EE spec requirement or even a proprietary feature of OC4J/OracleAS which will enable this.
If you have two different EAR files, then they are two different applications, and each will have their own session which can't be shared amongst each other.
If you have data which needs to be shared across different applications then you could either put it on a shared file system or write it to a database which you can then read from in the other application.
One way to do this is to implement the HttpSessionAttributeListener interface which will be called when object are added/removed/updated from a session, and then make a determination on whether the new object needs to be stored in a common place to facilitate sharing between applications.
This is more likely to be a hackaround and ideally you'd examine why you want to share session state across applications and rearchitect so you don't need to do it -- but if you want to try a solution without a major revisiting of the whole application, then perhaps it's an option.

  • Session between WAR files

    hello,
I am asking a question, however I still did not try it out (just being onest).
Would a session variable work between two WAR files?
For-example: Imagine I have WAR file A, that have a link to page WAR file B. Will the page in WAR file B have access to the session variables set by WAR file A?
As I maybe said more then once. I want to develop a website in a modularized way. I want to have the basic structure of the website in one WAR file, and then have the other sections to be loaded inside an other WAR file.
I realized that most of the websites on the internet just make a clear cut of reporoducing the common parts in the other WAR files. However this is something I would like to avoid, since I feel it is wrong. However is this the only way how this can be done?
I have searched a lot on the internet, but can not find a lot of examples! :(
    thanks and regards,
    sim085

No, I don't think you'll find sessions being shared between different webapps.
The assumption tends to be that webapps are developed independantly, and might have conflicting session attribute keys. Details of session behaviour are in the web.xml file associated with each app, they can have different expiry times etc..
I've shared data between webapps using my own cookies and common classes rather than using session.

  • Shared Session

    Hello
we need a session-store (maintaining state) which is shared between several WebDynpros.
The WebDynpros are embedded into the Portal as iViews, any hint how to get such a shared session-store?
    Thanks! Kai

Thank you very much for your ongoing effort, Anton.
    Neither
Component Interfaces -> SharedContextIface -> Interface Controller
    nor
Components -> SharedContextComp -> Local Component Interface -> Interface Controller
have any option to set required controllers. Only "normal" Component Controllers do have the "Required Controllers" Table under Tab Properties.
Anyone here having experience with EHP1?
    Thanks!

  • Load sharing/balancing between 2 Service Providers

    Hi,
I have a scenario where I have the following and this is repeated at different sites globally.
    CE1-----------PE1_SP1---MPLS cloud
    |
    CE1---standby--PE2_SP1---MPLS cloud
    CE2-----------PE1_SP2----MPLS Cloud
    |
    CE2---standby--PE2_SP2---MPLS Cloud
2 different service providers and we require load sharing/balancing to both SP1 and SP2.
If either of the SP's PE router is down it should bring up the standby link.
2 ASN, not sure if I can load share different prefixes in this scenario.
    Will the applications fail?
Will the traffic flow be symmetric ?
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hello Paul,
if you are using a single CE router on each site.
to get load-balancing on your CEx:
    router bgp X
    maximum-paths 2
eBGP load-balancing is easier so 2 ISP ASN is fine
Verify that you have flow based load-balancing and everything should be fine.
Notice that you have a failure on site N of provider1 you can be able to detect it in all remote sites only if they are receiving the routes of all the sites. If receiving a default route there's no way for other sites to detect the failure.
If receiving all the prefixes after MP-BGP convergence in ISP1 site N's prefixes will be withdrawn and will be reachable only via ISP2.
    To use an active/standby
    on all Cex
    router bgp x
    neighbor PE-ISP1 weigth 500
    neighbor PE-ISP1 fast-external-fallover
in this way until a prefix is present in ISP1 MP-BGP traffic is sent via ISP1
If using two CE in each site things are a little more complex and you need an iBGP session between them.
    Hope to help

  • Session backing beans and multiple navigator windows sharing session

Hi let's suppose i have a web and page1, page2 and page3 that should share the backingbean. Normal navigation goes from page 1 to page 2 to page 3.
I do not want a backing bean per page because i need to share data between my pages. The immediate solution is to put this bean in session context and use it in each page. But this has severe drawbacks:
    - The backing bean is the same each time I access any page, and I want a new bb to be used each time the user requests for page 1
    - When a user has more than one navigator window sharing session, and on each window he is navigating through pages 1 to 3, there can be a big mess because he is accessing to the same bb from both windows.
So I would like to find a solution that permit the user to navigate from both windows as if the windows had its own session.
    Any hint?
    Thnx

I have a similar problem as described .
I hava one window with enterable fields and when you click on a button it opens another window .Both forms are backed by the same bean .since both forms are nearly the same .
The bean is a managed bean in request scope .
when I fill in the first window with values and click on the link it opens the second but the first windows elements and now empty .
Even though it is in Request scope when the second window is being loaded the bean is re-initialized . I would expect a new intance of this bean to be created for the second window .
This is how I am calling the second window .
    <h:commandButton id="newRequestItem" action="#{requestItem.createNewRequestItem}" rendered="#{createActivationRequest.displayCreateLinks}" onclick="openNewPage('NewRequestItem.jsp');"
    image="images/show_all.gif" title="new request">
    <h:outputText value="new request" styleClass="toolbar-command"></h:outputText>
    </h:commandButton>
    function openNewPage(url)
         aqcbwin= window.open(url, "newRequestItem","toolbar=no, scrollbars=1");
    aqcbwin.moveTo(50, 50);
    target="_new";
    //target="_blank";
    aqcbwin.focus();
any ideas to what is wrong and how I can correct this .
    Thanks for your help .

  • Getting attributes from session between two different applications

I'm developing with JDK 1.3 and deploying my webapp at ORACLE 9iAS.
I would like to jump between JSPs deployed at differents OC4J instances and
keep session object. I've seen I can get sessionID and it's the same but the attributes have disapeared.
I jump using JavaScript code (document.location.href).
    Should I use a <form> ?
Should I use getServletContext() method ?
I dont know even if it's possible and I don't want to loose my time looking for a solution that doesn't exist.
NEED HELP, AN EXAMPLE OR WHATEVER USEFUL.
    ... THE SOON AS POSSIBLE
    THANX in advance
PS..- I have already look for in this forum but I didn't get any info to solve my doubts. If I mistaken please let me know

    Ok.
getServletContext().getContext() may return null in 'security conscious' servers. Apparently this is your case, therefore you wouldn't be able to use it to store global data...
As for sharing sessions directly between different web apps, the servlet spec (since 2.2 at least) explicitely prohibits it.
The link provided by tolmank about pseudo-sessions should address your issue, since it will allow you to distribute your session data on your different webapps.
Some other alternatives would be :
-store the session data in the DB (slow)
    -use java serialization
    -use RMI
    -use JNDI
-if you're using Tomcat, you can implement single-signon accross multiple apps using cookies :

Hello there - how can I share my iTunes library between two users on the same computer? I put the library in a shared folder between both and have selected this library on both as well, but when I update iTunes with music etc it only appears on one?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

  • Sharing files between users and macs

My husband and I share an iMac. I have a MBA for traveling and my husband a PC laptop (though he rarely uses for private stuff). We both have iPhones.
We are looking for a way to:
    - Share our photos (we don't use iPhoto) and some files. We would like to have this in one shared folder, that we can access from both accounts in the iMac, the MBA and ideally (though not a must) the PC and iPhones. We would both need to have admin rights to edit documents, etc.
    - Have access to all the information in my account on the iMac from the MBA. Ideally, same thing for his and the PC.
    - Have access to all the data remotely when traveling.
    - Have all the data backed up locally (we already have a cloud backup, but we'd like to have a local backup too as it's easier and quicker to access)
We have read a lot about configuration, NAS, time capsule... but we get more and more confused, as we are obviously no tech experts.
Dropbox is not our preferred choice. We already have a cloud backup system. We'd rather have the files stored and accessed locally for everyday use.
Using a NAS to store shared folders and backup the rest sounds good, but they either seem very complicated to set up, or they have mixed reviews in terms of stability, especially to access files remotely.
Timecapsule seems easier and more straightforward, but I'm not sure it would solve the "sharing files between users and macs with admin rights"? It seems to be more focused on backing up the main drive and then providing access to the backed up files. (Though I might be completely mistaken!)
We just can't manage to have one shared folder between both accounts in the iMac. We need to grant admin rights document by document. We don't manage to make it work automatically so we both have one folder to access with full rights for all the contents inside it. And this seems to me like something that should easily be done...?
Any help, advice, proposals... would be greatly appreciated!!!

Move any file you want to the other user to access to the Shared Folder. Anything you put in that folder is available to all users.
    The shared folder is here:
Macintosh HD > Users > Shared

  • Sharing information between tiled view and view bean

I have come across one more problem. I have a search result
page. This search result page has a static text field and a repeated group
(I simplified the page description, for explanation purpose). In the NetD
implementation they are maintaining a page level attribute (say boolean
haveSenisitiveCustomers) and setting this attribute in the
afterDataObjectExecute event. (This data object is associated with the
repeated). In end display event of static text field, they are displaying
message say " due to Registration type, not all customers meeting the
criteria are listed") if the haveSensitiveCustomers flag is set.
After Migration, the boolean flag and static Text Field movedto
SearchResultViewBean and afterDataObjectExecuteEvent has moved to
TiledViewBean. Actual processing done is more complicated than this
explanation. However, it boils down to sharing information between
tiledViewBean and its parent bean. How do we achieve this in the Migrated
    Application?
One way is to add getter methods in the child tiled view bean( to
access in parent view bean, call getRepeated1 and cast to the actual type
and invoke the get methods)Probably the typical solution (I say typical because I don't yet know) will
be to do what you suggest: provide methods between views that can be used to
determine the state needed for processing like this.
However, let me alert you to something that's different than ND, and which
may cause you some trouble. In ND, all retrieving DataObjects associated
with a page executed at one time, and the afterDataObjectExcecuteEvent fired
before any display processing began. However, in JATO, tiled views are
independent objects, and any models associated with them only execute when
the tiled view is first displayed.
Therefore, if the static test field you refer to appears in the page before
the tiled view, then the tiled view will not have executed its associated
model before the static text field is rendered. You will never see the
static text field display the text you want because you won't have the
information at display time. (If the text field appears after the repeated,
then it's not problem, as the display of the tiled view will have executed
the associate model before the field displays.)
The solution is to manually reference the tiled view and its associate model
before they would normally execute. You would execute the model and set the
tiled view's setAutoRetrieveEnabled() to false to prevent it from executing
the model a second time. Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be this:
    beforeStaticTextDisplay(...)
// Force the tiled view to execute the associated model
    Repeated1TiledView tiledView=
    (Repeated1TiledView)getChild("Repeated1");
    tiledView.beginDisplay();
    tiledView.setAutoRetrieveEnabled(false);
Although the beginDisplay() method will be executed twice in this case (once
deliberately, above, and later during actual display), there should be no
overhead. The beginDisplay() method doesn't do anything anyway except
execute associated auto-retrieving models and fire the
    afterAllModelsExecute() event.

  • Sharing photos between multiple users on one Mac

I'm trying to figure out how to easily share photos imported in by one user to other users in my family on my mac. I'm assuming we don't have to import them multiple times. It seems cumbersome to this new mac user to share them. I find the issue with iTunes. Any help?

    HI Darien,

You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

There is no other info on the site about how it works.
