Shift key doesn't constrain shapes anymore

Hello there!
I'm new to After Effects therefore I started a tutorial recently in order to learn how to use it properly. However, there is something what doesn't make any sense to me.
As a Photoshop user I always use the shift key to make a perfect circle or rectangle if it comes to shapes or selection. As I experienced during the tutorial this feature also available in AE.
Unfortunately this option doesn't work anymore for some reason. What it does it's basically changes the orientation of the actual shape instead of making it a perfect circle or rectangle. Please take a look on the images attached for a better understanding what I'm trying to say. The first image showing my selection without using the shift key, on the second one you can see what the shift key does to the selection. The weirdest thing is that it actually worked before and I don't remember anything I've done which could cause this problem.
Please help me to solve this issue!

The mask you've drawn in the lower frame, whilst holding the Shift key, IS a square. Your composition is 720x576 PAL anamorphic, but you don't have Pixel Aspect Ratio previewing enabled, so everything is squished horizontally. Turn on PAR preview to correct, ie the yellow-highlighted button as indicated below.

Left shift key doesn't work on some characters

In some applications, such as Excel and AOL, my left shift key doesn't work on some letters. Consequently, when I'm typing I get lower case letters when I've typed shift plus the letter to get a cap. Right shift works OK, but I'm not used to using it. It happens on i, t, and p, I've noticed so far. I don't know if it's the keyboard or the application. Word seems to work fine.
Would welcome any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it.

Is it possible that you have inadvertently switched to a different keyboard layout? Open System Preferences, then click on the Language & Text preferences. Within the Language & Text preferences click on the 'Input Sources'. You should see a long list of languages representing the various keyboard layouts that are available. Make sure that only the keyboard language you use is selected. If there are multiple languages selected then de-select the extras.
If you continue to have problems then check the 'Show input menu in menu bar' checkbox in the lower section of the preference pane. This will place an icon in the upper right menu bar (it looks like a flag representing the language you have chosen for your input device) that provides additional options. I suggest selecing the 'Show Keyboard Viewer' option and then try pressing the keys that you are having problems with to see how they show up on the keyboard viewer graphic. If you've set the correct language for your keyboard and the key sequences still don't match, then you may need to take your keyboard in for service. Better yet, borrow another keyboard to confirm that the keyboard is the issue.

I updated to maverick, and maybe it's a coincidence but my left shift key doesn't work unless i really press it down. Is there any way to fix this without bringing it into the Genius Bar?

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.

Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

Caps Lock, Shift key doesn't work

My MBA late 2010 caps lock, they shift key doesn't work. Is there anyone knows how to fix and solve my problem, please?

[Solved] Shift key doesn't work correctly

Hi!
I have a strange problem for a while. If I hold down the shift key and type the computer releases it itself. Example: I press down the shift key and type some upper case chars and suddenly I am writing lower case chars without releasing the shift key! I already tested another keyboard and nothing changed. And I have the feeling that the problem only occurs with Linux, not with Windows, which is installed on the same computer. But I dont know for sure, because I don't spent mach time with windows ;-)

Okay, the question if the problem occurs in console was good - no it doesn't!
I played a bit and started X11 with only xterm (no windowmanager) and there
were no problem. I had also no problem with openbox and xterm. So I moved
away my xfce-config and started with a clean one. No problem. I add
everything of my config again (one thing after another) - and there are no
problems any more!?!? Don't know what happened, but I could work again,

Shift key doesn't select blocks of files. Even after clean install of mavericks in case it was old snow leopard problem. Can only select individual files

Hi for a few months my shift key stopped allowing me to select blocks of files and worked like the cmd key selecting just individual files. Apple store sold me a. New keyboard when I connected it first time it worked. But after shutting down mac it never worked again. Have just performed clean install of new mavericks as I was told it must be the permissions or other account settings etc. But 2 days later after lots of work shift still doesn't work. Every now and then it would work once and then. Not again. I work with photos a lot and only being able to choose individual files is a nightmare. Can anyone explain this problem.?

I installed mavericks from a USB and reformatted the hd. I set up a new user account added email, apple ID etc and then downloaded new iPhoto and iMovie. I manually copied documents, music inc itunes library folder and photos from time machine back up. I also copied original apps only using migration assistant to get idvd and garageband back as despite a lot of searching i couldnt find a way to selectively reinstall original apps not purchased from app store. Only third party apps are photoshop elements 9 and office 2011.

Shift key doesn't over-ride caps lock?

Hi all,
It's an entirely silly thing, and not something worth fretting about too much, but I noticed something today on my macbook 2nd gen running 10.4.11 - if I have caps lock on, and I am typing, holding down th shift key (either one) does not override the caps lock and make the letters go to lowercase. This is kind of odd, but I literally can't remember if I've ever done this before. Can anyone tell me if this is a mac specific thing (as on windows, I know I can do this), or is something horked on my machine? I checked my international settings et. all, everything seems to be in order, and yes, both my shift keys work just fine.
Thoughts are appreciated, as this is just kinda odd.

I wonder...I have this vague recollection that it was this way under pre-X Mac OS's. Admittedly, I don't wonder strongly enough to unbox the OS8-running PowerPC 6500/225 in the basement...but maybe there's someone out there with better recollection than me.
Regardless, in Tiger it doesn't work that way.

Right shift key doesn't work after BIOS update on Satellite A200-28P

For some reason, after I upgraded my Bios, my right shift key doesnt work and neither does my FOUR and SIX button, hence why i have written in words :(,
I tried reinstalling windows, hasnt made a difference.
I tried rolling back the drivers for the keyboard, as well as changing to the US version of the keyboard, nothing has helped.

okay first problem is, my warranty was due to expire, so i brought an extension, and nothing has happened whatsoever on those regards, secondly, i ran a keyboard test, and i found out that it wasnt only the four six and right shift key which was now no longer working, but also the f2, f10, f11, f12,
I have used a external keyboard, which works :D but it annoying to use that when the whole point of a laptop is to have the inbuilt keyboard,
any suggestions on this

Shift Key Not Making Perfect Shapes...

I'm trying to make a perfect circle but can't. I hold down the right key [shift] but that only make the shape an irregular shape ratio. The same thing happens with making squares or any other shape. They don't turn out right. It's like there's a "keep ratio" key turned off or something. Can anybody out there help me out?

Are you working in a composition with non-square pixels? Do you have Toggle Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction turned on?

InDesign CC Shift Key not working

Normally I'd just hold the shift key down to resize an image or object in InDesign CC to constrain its proportions. Lately when I try to resize an image, the shift key doesn't do anything anymore. It no longer holds the proportions of the image box. Is there a way to fix this problem or is there a new tool that replaces the hot key shortcut? Transform > Scale is taking way too much time to resize an image to the proper size I need it to be.
Any and all help is very appreciated.

I was having this problem as well, within indesign CC 2014 only, not photoshop or illustrator. Virus or firewall can interfere with key modifiers. I have webfoot virus software. When I turn it off temporarily the shift key constrains angles and draws straight lines again as usual. There may be a better workaround, but this works for me, though I have to turn the virus software off and on.
I have a laptop that I haven't installed webroot on yet and it runs the same version of indesign cc 2014 as my main mac… there was never an issue with the shift key on the laptop.

Using shift key to constrain proportions while scaling

I notice that using the shift key doesn’t currently constrain proportions when scaling objects. This is pretty standard behaviour in graphics apps and it would be good to have this included in Muse. There seems to be nowhere to manually enter a scale factor either, which would be useful.

Looking into this further, it seems that the behaviour is inconsistent. A placed rectangle object can be resized proportionally when constrained with the shift key, but this doesn’t work the same way when scaling a placed image. Additionally, using the crop tool on a placed image does allow constraint using the shift key.
Testing with grouped objects, a group of plain rectangles can be resized proportionally, but a group of images cannot.
The answer is to use the lock button when resizing images but it would be better if the behaviour were consistent across object types.

Shift key and move tool cs3 bug?

I've just installed CS3 and noticed that dragging a shape/object while pressing the shift key doesn't work like it should. It should constrain the movement to 45 or 90 degrees. But in CS3, when I drag an object this way it does funny things. When I press the shift key while dragging the object up e.g. it doesn't go straight up, but there's an offset of some pixels. Sometimes it jumps even further from one position to the next (about 200 pixels up/down e.g.). I've also tried deselecting all the guide/align options, but the same result.
Is this some kind of bug in CS3 (in flash 8 it works like expected)?
I now have to use the arrow keys if I want to move a shape up/down/left/right/diagonal. It does this both on the pc and mac version (so it's not that my version is mixed up of something).

If the Type remains unchanged when selected, you seem to need to both Show Edges and Show Bounding Box under View. You should be able to move it though. Otherwise, something else is wrong.

However, the RIGHT HAND Shift Key doesn't work for me.
Is this the same for other users?

Shift key not working for some letters

Hello!
i just got a new MacBook and just figured out that certain that the left shift key doesn't work for the top row of letters. That is q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o. The right bracket doesn't work with either shift key.
After reading about the possible influence of Sound, I looked there and didn't see any conflicts.
Is my only solution Apple? Or is there something else I can try?
