Shortcut to JNLP on Desktop for all OS

Hi all,
I got a problem on creating shortcut to my application that will be run using Java Web Start. I know that we can create shortcut via JNLP easily by adding
<shortcut online="true">
      <desktop/>
</shortcut>
...It works for all OS. However, I want the shortcut creation to ask permission to the user before created on user's desktop.
In MacOS, it will ask user before shortcut is created. Not the case in Windows. I am not yet testing it on Linux.
Is it caused by these lines?
<security>
    <all-permissions/>
</security>
...I tried removing these lines and yes, it works. A confirmation is displayed before the shortcut is created.
However, my pair programmer want these lines stay there since the removal of these lines will affect his work.
Could anyone suggest a solution to my problem?
My friend suggest me to add a menu item called "Create shortcut on your desktop" and create the shortcut if user click this link.
How could I create a shortcut that will work for all OS? Or should I create a shortcut for each OS?
Many thanks for your valuable time.
Regards,
Daniel.

I agree with Matteo, you could copy the .lnk file to C:\Users\Public\Desktop.

  • Is there a way to create a "common desktop" for all RD/TS 2012 users? (Office 2010 icons on the dekstop, for example.)

    Hello!  Just like the title, is there a way to create a "common desktop" for all RD/TS 2012 users?
    I know how to do this using regular W7 workstations and 2008 Servers, but the "Default" folder under the USERS directory is gone and I'm not sure how to get the icons there in Windows 8, let alone Server 2012 Remote Desktop.
    I've installed Office 2010 on the 2012 server, but every end user that logs in has to manually type in "Word," "Excel." "PowerPoint." etc from the metro interface, then right-click each icon to add the shortcut to the desktop.
    Given the... uh.. unfamiliarity of our endusers around the computer, this really isn't the best option.  What I'd like is them to log on and have all the Office icons ready and availible for them.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    You can edit the local GPP and create a desktop shortcut for all users.
    Reference:
    Customize the default local user profile in windows Server 2012

    Also, you can use CopyProfile to customize the Default User Profile.

  • Mounting drives on the desktop for all users

    Hi
    Is there a way of mounting drives ( like USB pens) on the desktop for all users please?
    It's a causing a lot of confusion here... you think the USB drives aren't working when you can't see them being mounted in front of you.
    I do realise you can set this in Finder/Preferences but I wondered if there were a way of just making it the default for any user that logs in ( whether locally or to the domain).
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hmmmm....why would anyone disable this basic thing?
    Here's a reason. I don't use the Desktop, so why would I want the drives to pop up on my desktop.
    They appear in my Sidebar in any Finder window.
    That's why I turned it off on my system. You'd have to ask the 1000 users why they turned it off.
    However, I'm not sure I understand what you want. If you mount a usb drive on your system, and share it out over the network, it is not a Hard Drive on any network user's desktop. It is a network share.

  • Do I have to buy remote desktop for all the computers I want to access?

    I am trying to figure out if when I download the Remote Desktop for my laptop how do I then connect to my studio PC. Do I need to pay th 79 dollars again to hav the app running on the other computer?

    You only install the Apple Remote Desktop app on a computer from which you want to do the controlling and management. You don't install it on the client systems. But the license for apps from the Mac App Store say that for personal use, you can install an app on all computers you own or control.
    Note that if by "studio PC: you mean that your other computer is a Windows system, ARD won't install on it in any case, and won't even control it without you installing VNC on the Windows system.

  • Creating a Custom Event Log View Shortcut on a server desktop for an admin

    Good morning,
    We have a new admin starting and I would like to create custom event log view shortcut on there desktop for each server they need to check. Is there a way to do this in Server 2012 and Server 2008?
     I have figured out how to create a shortcut of the Application and System log, but not Custom Views. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Based on my research, you can create a custom view like
    this.However, I tried miltiple ways to create a shortcut of the custom view of the event viewer and no result. I can only create a shortcut of the event viewer. You may need a script can achieve that.

  • How do I get the HDD to show on the desktop for all users?

    I have found it by going to finder and preferences and show hard disks, but when another user logs in, it doesnt show. The Macs are networked and login using Active Directory, but as soon as I change the logon it doesnt show anymore.
    I need this to show or a network share using SMB to be mapped for all users when they logon. I have software "Read and Write Gold 4 for Mac" and upon starting the software, it needs to look for a license file. I can either copy to all the Macs, or have one on a network share.
    Any ideas welcome.

    Looking around, it seems that some people have changed the Launchpad key and want to go back.
    If there's a way to go back, then there must be a way to change it completely?
    In this thread, Fabien says that if you enter
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist
    into Terminal, you can bring the Launchpad key back.

  • Why do i keep getting a 2nd shortcut on my desktop for Mozilla-Firefox. I keep deleting the 2nd icon and it keeps coming back.

    I started getting a 2nd shortcut icon on my desktop for Mozilla Firefox. Every time I delete this 2nd icon, it comes back and I don't know why.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
    Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

  • Is there an easy way to add a desktop shortcut for all users?

    Looking for an easy way to add a shortcut to an app for all users.

    William is correct. There are global system settings, and then there are personal user settings. Adding a shortcut to the desktop, or more commonly the Dock is a personal setting.
    Unless its in some kind of mass deployment scenario where you can create a pre programed image for large amounts of computers which has it already has your app shortcut setup, its easier to just do it one user at a time.

    Hi,
    I am just wondering, what is the technically correct location to place say, a shortcut, for all users to access on their desktops on a given machine?
    Is it C:\Users\Public\Desktop ?
    Or is it C:\Users\All Users\Desktop ?
    Would it also be possible to explain the differences as well? Or paste some links to the overview of each one? I am having trouble finding anything from MS.
    Thank you.

  • How to list all .URL shortcuts on multiple computers desktops

    I've been searching to find a Powershell script that polls a list of computer names and then returns a list of the .URL shortcuts along with their targets from the logged in users desktop.
    Does anyone know if there is one out there or at least point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

    $strComputer = Get-Content C:\ps\test.txt
    function Get-DesktopShortcuts
    $Shortcuts = Get-ChildItem -Recurse ~\desktop\ -Include *.url
    $Shell = New-Object -ComObject WScript.Shell
    foreach ($computer in $strComputer)
    foreach ($Shortcut in $Shortcuts)
    $Properties = @{
    Computer = $computer.Name
    ShortcutName = $Shortcut.Name
    Target = $Shell.CreateShortcut($Shortcut).targetpath
    New-Object PSObject -Property $Properties
    [Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::ReleaseComObject($Shell) | Out-Null
    $Output = Get-DesktopShortcuts
    $Output
    $Output | Export-Csv C:\ps\shortcut.csv
    This is what I've put together but seems to only show a single url for each computer even though I know there are multiple .url files on the desktop for each computer. Plus it is outputting only google.com shortcuts. Hmmm

  • Changing shared variable reference modes for all nodes in application. Shortcut?

    I have a large application which makes extensive use of both network-published and single-process shared variables.  I want to change the reference mode of every such node in the application from absolute to target-relative.  Is there any way to do this without having to open every subVI in the application and use the right-click menu on every node?
    Sean

    I don't know of any shortcut, but if you want to change the reference node of everything in the application you could probably script it.  I was thinking something similar to what I have below where you traverse the BD of a specific VI for all SharedVariableNodes and change the relative mode to Target Relative.
    Depending on how your project is organized you can add some additional functionality before the open VI reference to go through and open the reference of every VI in your project.

    You do not tell us what OS version you have. In OS 10.8.2, do this:
    Apple Menu / System Preferences / Language and Text / Input Sources.
    Select the language you want. Mine is set to Canadian English.

  • Is it possible to mass change desktop wall paper for all users using WGM?

    is it possible to mass change desktop wall paper for all users using WGM?

    yes, it's easy - change a machine to the desktop you want (the image must be on all the machines, with the same name, of course), find ~/library/preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist Copy that to your server (or just put it on a flash drive) In workgroup manager select preferences - details - "add". Navigate to that plist. (Optional - hit "edit" and cut and past from "often" to "always", then the user cannot change the desktop at all, if you leave it in "often" it will reset next log-on.)
