Should I be worried?

I am aware of 'a poorly bird of prey' (ill eagle) P2P downloading.
I have NOT (knowlingly) downloaded anything illegal so I should be 'safe'.
I even opted out of Fon as a precaution so nobody can use MY details to log onto a Fon spot (if I've been hacked into) and bought a PAYG wifi dongle (registered to my name and address) so if and when I'm out and about I can use the dongle rather than logging into a Fon spot.
But having read this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10183820.stm I'm still a little bit worried.
(from the above link) "Names and the number of times individuals infringe will be logged".
The reason for the post is due to what technology/information is used to identify me as an individual.
What if someone created an email account with my name/details and logged into an illegal site.
Building up to all this I've looked into mac address spoofing and it seems that anybody can do this.
Please DON'T delete this as you are my ISP and you are mentioned in the above link.
("Initially the code will only apply to ISPs that have more than 400,000 customers. This includes BT," plus several other ISPs).
Thanks in advance for any help in answering my question / putting my mind at ease as "Technology is brilliant but sometimes is scares me".

I'd imagine it'd work backwards from the IP address of the "offender", which can be linked to an ISP, whose records can connect a particular IP address at a particular date/time to an individual account.

While some folks might think an email account/address alone identifies an individual, it doesn't.

It can be done, but I don't see that as a problem in this context.

Unless you have a company or school iPod, that profile was installed by an app you installed. It is likely that the app will no longer function when that date is reached. You can Google the name of the profile and that may provide some more information.

Yes, if you don't bother to change your password. You may also want to seriously consider turning on two step authentication.

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to activate after the update, and the server is getting overloaded. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.

  • Screen flicker. Should I be worried?

I have a 2011 27" iMac. I looked around the forums and seems like, while there are some people with flickering issues, I have a different kind of flicker.
At random times, the screen brightness on my iMac flickers from light-to dark. It's not one of those horizontal bars that only affect part of the screen. the whole screen's brightness flickers.
I have it attached to an uninterruptible power supply and it does this even when I disconnect everything from it (USB devices, etc. like the support representative said I should do). I won't mind this if this won't develop into a more severe problem. I can live with it if it'll just flicker.
    So, should I be worried?

    thank you.
I bought it online, had the specs customized. They said if they did run diagnostics and would find a problem i'd have to turn the machine in while another one ships in or worse they'd have to repair it themselves and it'd take around 2 weeks. (i live in the philippines and products have to be shipped from china and the postal service is absolute ****) my work depends on this mac and i just can't afford to lose 2 weeks. if this is just nothing i'd be fine with it being an occasional flicker.

A moment later, when I'm at the link, its address appears in the address bar, and all is normal. It seems that this happens only from some particular sites. Is FireFox reporting that my bookmarks and history are being searched?
Should I be worried? Is someone searching my personal data? Is this just a FireFox error msg when it has trouble finding the website I requested?

That is OK. Firefox will only display the link in the location bar after the DNS look up has succeeded and a connection to the server has been established. Until that has been done you see the default setting for the location bar: Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest

  • Should I be worried after this?

Five days ago I made the mistake of eating cereal near my MacBook.  The bowl flipped and milk spilt all over the trackpad and keyboard.  If I had to estimate, probably a half of a cup of milk went on the trackpad and keyboard.  A lot of milk nonetheless.  After rapidly cleaning the milk off of the MacBook, I immediately powered it down and kept it off for three days.  On the third day I attempted to power it back on... and it worked!
It's working fine now.  At first a couple of keys were sticky but after pressing them a couple of times they were back to normal.  The backlit keyboard still works fine.  The trackpad, at first, was making a weird sound every time I tapped (not clicked) it but that has recently subsided.
I know this voids my AppleCare warranty.  I called Apple and asked if I could bring it in just for them to clean any milk residue left over on the insides.  They said they would not do this and referred me to a third party Mac repair center, compumac.
I think it's best I go there (when I'm on spring break, I'm away at school currently) and ask them to open it up and clean any milk residue left over.
So, my question is, should I be worried?  I'm backing up all of my schoolwork on a flash drive just in case.  I feel like my MacBook could die at any time.  I won't know for sure until I bring it to compumac.  I'm just shocked that it is working flawlessly after I spilt milk on it.  What do you guys think is the best route of action to take given my circumstances?

Cross your fingers and hope for the best until you can take it to the service provider. There will be limits to how effectively they can clean some of the parts, particularly the trackpad's innards. The labor-intensive nature of cleaning and the impossibility of being certain everything is really clean are the reasons why Apple doesn't even attempt cleaning — they simply replace all the parts that have gotten anything on them. Compumac may tell you they'll do the same thing. Even if they clean parts instead of replacing them, it will be expensive, and you (and they) won't be 100% sure they've gotten everything. Milk residue anywhere inside will draw moisture out of the air in humid environments and lead to corrosion, and half a cup of milk is enough to leave a lot of residue inside. Some of that is likely to remain even after the most thorough cleaning that can practically be done. So chances are that even if you have Compumac do their best, you've shortened the useful lifespan of your computer by some unpredictable amount.

  • Should I be worried about my iphone's battery life?

I went to sleep when my iphone's battery was on 60% and I woke up with it on 9%. I left the wifi on, but I still think the battery dropped too much in just a few hours without me even using the phone. Is it normal or should I be worried?

There's no way for any of us to be able to tell.  "Normal" battery life is dependent on settings.  Evaluating what is normal requres specific evauation tools.  Those tools will take your settings into account.  If you have some battery sucking settings, the situation you have described would be considered normal.
The blog linked below has some very useful information about maximizing your battery life.

  • Should I Be Worried(Go Ipod Instead?)(Zen Micro Proble

Thus far I've heard of quite a few issues with the Zen Micro. The most common ones I've heard of are freezing and the headphone jack problem. Now, at the moment I've experienced 2 issues that are really starting to worry me. Should I just go with an iPod Mini and avoid all the issues? What seems more problematic(Directed at people who do their research before buying) the Ipod Mini or the Zen micro? What are the major issues with the iPod mini compared to the Zen micro?
Here are the issues I've experienced:
)My Back, Menu Options, and Play/Pause buttons are incredibly stiff at times(especially when I first turn on the Micro)and I have to press them REALLY hard to get them working. Is there a fix for this? Is it something I should worry about?
2)Last night I encountered my second problem. It froze up for the first time. I was playing around with the Micro, and decided to test out the removable disk function. Just as it was partioning, it froze. I had to take out the battery. Should I be worried? Should I just go with another mp3 player instead? Please help me out. Has this happened to anyone else?
    I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP!

XXT0t wrote:So you guys think I should exchange my Zen for another Zen because of the button problem? I mean, when the headphones are plugged in it works perfectly, but when I take them out the buttons are really stiff, as stated before my sensitivity is at High. Help.
If it's a big issue for you contact Creative Support first to check it's not a known issue, or update the firmware at the very least.
Also, I'm not too sure wether or not I should upgrade my firmware. As stated before the only issue Ive encountered other than the button problems, is that ONE time it froze during removable disk mode.
The ..0 has a very useful fix that reduces the standby period from 24 to 4 hours, increasing the battery life (although it depends on usage a little).
What are the differences between firmware 2.20.05 and ..0 ? Is one better than the other? Does one fix more issues than the other? Please keep the help coming.
See the "the difference between the Zen Micro v and v2 firmware" link in the FAQ post.

  • New Mac's battery charge percentage drop quick using AC adaptor 24/7, should I be worried?

I use my mac with AC adaptor 24/7, but the battery capacity drop 4% in 3 days... should I be worried? Is it some kind of hardware problem?

    Hi,
Well, it's only England, so no extreme temperatures, but I can see my breath in the morning when the heater hasn't been on! I didn't think it would be too cold, but seeing some other posts wondered if that could be a contributing factor, being the unusually cold weather here over the past two/three weeks.
I'm just panicking in case my battery or charger is about to go, just when I really need them.
I'll calibrate the battery -- which is something I wasn't aware of until reading this forum today.
The problem is, I'm traveling to the Caribbean to the opposite temperature problems may arise -- to hot and humid. I think I'll buy an extra battery to be on the safe side.
At least neither of you has said: 'oh dear, that sounds like a failing battery.' So I'm a little less panicked now. I'll keep an eye on it and post back if anything dire happens over the next few days.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
    Cheers,
    Tracy

  • Dropped Frames, Error Messages - should I be worried?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to FCP 6 and I'm getting error messages when playing back video from my timeline saying there are DROPPED FRAMES. Sometimes it comes up with RED lettering and I get worried -- like my system is gonna crash or something. Should I be worried?

Is the firewire drive the only device on your firewire port and are you using the built in firewire port of the Mac, or are you using an internal firewire card you installed.
When you use a firewire drive to capture/playback from and are using the built in firewire ports of the Mac, (both ports share the same I/O) you can end up with dropped frames, if you are running a secondary firewire device on the same port, (such as a DV camcorder, deck, etc.)
This is why most FCP users purchase an internal firewire card to run the secondary devices from.
ALSO: Try tossing your FCP preferences, they sometimes can cause problems like this. You'll have to reset your preference after doing so.
